It's Tuesday 22nd April. This is Newsround with me Ricky. On the way. | :00:00. | :00:12.
Water Voles making a comeback in Sussex. Find out which club will be | :00:13. | :00:15.
playing Premier League footy next season. This is Newsround. First up, | :00:16. | :00:26.
you've probably seen stories online and in the papers already this | :00:27. | :00:29.
morning about David Moyes and his Manchester United future. The club | :00:30. | :00:32.
says he hasn't been sacked but won't confirm if he'll be United's | :00:33. | :00:35.
long-term manager. Various newspapers have claimed the club | :00:36. | :00:38.
will say goodbye to him following a poor season. Earlier I spoke to BBC | :00:39. | :00:59.
Sports Seth Bennett. All the club have said so far as he has not been | :01:00. | :01:03.
sacked. Now, we expect for that to happen possibly a little but later | :01:04. | :01:07.
on today the David Moyes's position now seems like it's not going to | :01:08. | :01:10.
last much longer at Old Trafford. It's so disappointing for Manchester | :01:11. | :01:13.
United fans. They are on their way to their worst season in 24 years in | :01:14. | :01:17.
the Premier League which is incredible. That is not the first | :01:18. | :01:20.
time we've heard rumours he might be facing the axe. Why today? You have | :01:21. | :01:24.
got to think the embarrassment of losing 2-0 at his old club and the | :01:25. | :01:28.
way Everton played, they were vibrant and played exciting | :01:29. | :01:30.
football. Manchester United looked stodgy but this weekend was the | :01:31. | :01:33.
weekend when they were ruled out of the Champions League. In the current | :01:34. | :01:36.
world, that means big things financially because they would lose | :01:37. | :01:39.
so much money from television rights. Who do we think might | :01:40. | :01:42.
replace him if it is confirmed today he has been axed? They are saying | :01:43. | :01:47.
it's going to be Ryan Giggs who will take over in the short term between | :01:48. | :01:51.
now and the end of the season. And then the big favourite of Louis van | :01:52. | :01:55.
Gaal, from the Netherlands, who will take them to Brazil, to the World | :01:56. | :01:59.
Cup. After that, he's a free agent. He was linked with a job at Alex | :02:00. | :02:02.
Ferguson considered retiring about ten years ago, so he would be the | :02:03. | :02:06.
ideal man you would expect the stage. Now when it comes to sport, | :02:07. | :02:10.
is it the winning or the taking part that counts? Well, a survey from the | :02:11. | :02:13.
Marylebone Cricket Club suggests the taking part is more important for | :02:14. | :02:16.
some school kids. They asked 1,000 children a series of questions and | :02:17. | :02:20.
two thirds said they were not bothered by the competitive element | :02:21. | :02:22.
in school sports. The poll also suggests that most kids feel their | :02:23. | :02:26.
parents are more concerned about winning than the children | :02:27. | :02:29.
themselves. Predators, loss of habitat and bad weather. Some of the | :02:30. | :02:33.
factors being blamed for the decline in the number of water voles in the | :02:34. | :02:36.
UK. According to the Environment Agency their numbers fell by a fifth | :02:37. | :02:40.
in the last three years. But in one small part of Sussex, the water vole | :02:41. | :02:43.
is fighting back. These conservationists are checking their | :02:44. | :02:46.
traps for one of Britain's fastest declining mammals, the water vole. | :02:47. | :02:49.
Many of these little creatures were tagged last year so the numbers | :02:50. | :02:52.
could be monitored and in this area of the Sussex countryside, these | :02:53. | :02:56.
little guys are on the up, despite the difficult conditions. They can | :02:57. | :03:01.
have up to five or six litters a year so a single vole can equal a | :03:02. | :03:05.
couple of hundred voles quite quickly. The reason for the research | :03:06. | :03:09.
in this area is because last year, their habitat changed forever when | :03:10. | :03:12.
sea defences were knocked down to make way for a better, more | :03:13. | :03:15.
effective scheme to protect the coast. A new nature reserve has been | :03:16. | :03:27.
built, too. It has salt water marshes on one side and freshwater | :03:28. | :03:30.
on the other. What the study hopes to find out is whether the water | :03:31. | :03:34.
voles are successfully moving from their old homes into the protection | :03:35. | :03:37.
of the reserve and there are signs it seems to be working. This is a | :03:38. | :03:42.
water vole. It's been put in quite a nice neat pile about the size of a | :03:43. | :03:45.
tic-tac and he's putting it there as a marker to say this is my | :03:46. | :03:49.
territory. Across the UK, the water vole has really suffered due to bad | :03:50. | :03:53.
weather and predators like mink. A relative of the otter that preys on | :03:54. | :03:56.
fish, small rodents and voles. In Sussex, over the last decade, we've | :03:57. | :04:00.
had a 90% decrease in water voles. There are only a few sights where we | :04:01. | :04:03.
have water voles' natural populations still occurring and this | :04:04. | :04:07.
site is one of them. They are in there already starting to breed. The | :04:08. | :04:10.
research will continue for another five years to give a close eye on | :04:11. | :04:14.
the water vole population and ensure they and other native species find a | :04:15. | :04:17.
new home amongst the reeds and marshes. This is the moment Burnley | :04:18. | :04:24.
fans had been waiting for all season. Promotion to the Premier | :04:25. | :04:27.
League. The Clarets are moving on up after a 2-0 win over Wigan Athletic. | :04:28. | :04:31.
Even their mascot couldn't quite believe it. Last up, while lots of | :04:32. | :04:34.
you were celebrating easter by eating eggs, kids over in America | :04:35. | :04:37.
were busy rolling them. They were taking part in an annual easter egg | :04:38. | :04:41.
roll at the White House where the President lives, pushing eggs along | :04:42. | :04:45.
the grass with a spoon. US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle | :04:46. | :04:48.
hosted the event and later read the children a story and joined in a | :04:49. | :04:51.
game of basketball. That's all from me. Leah's back this afternoon. Bye | :04:52. | :04:55.
bye. | :04:56. | :04:57. |
