Good morning, I'm Jenny, it's Tuesday and this is Newsround.

:00:00.:00:00.

The first total solar eclipse in almost 100 years

:00:00.:00:09.

Millions of people gathered across the country to watch.

:00:10.:00:25.

First, one of the most spectacular space sights visible from the Earth

:00:26.:00:28.

happened in America last night as millions of people enjoyed

:00:29.:00:31.

And this is the moment special Nasa cameras first recorded the moon

:00:32.:00:37.

We will take a back to Nasa Eclipse Central in Charleston. Take it away,

:00:38.:00:58.

Dwayne. We have an exclusive picture of the total solar eclipse arriving

:00:59.:01:02.

at the United States, it is over the Pacific Ocean and about to reach

:01:03.:01:06.

Oregon. It is the celestial event we have been waiting and anticipating

:01:07.:01:07.

for years. A huge shadow... swept across the US

:01:08.:01:12.

from coast to coast. Millions of people watched,

:01:13.:01:17.

using special glasses It's the first time in 99 years

:01:18.:01:19.

an eclipse like this has happened, and the whole event took

:01:20.:01:23.

around 90 minutes. In some places, darkness lasted

:01:24.:01:25.

for almost three minutes! Our reporter Nada Tawfik

:01:26.:01:27.

was watching in the state of Kentucky for Newsround,

:01:28.:01:29.

and sent us this report. The moment has come and come and

:01:30.:01:40.

gone and it was truly as spectacular as described. When the moon started

:01:41.:01:46.

to creep up and block the sun, that alone was an amazing experience.

:01:47.:01:50.

Seeing the sun in the form of a crescent, which normally we only see

:01:51.:01:55.

the moon at. The real moment came up quickly, once the Moon completely

:01:56.:01:59.

blocked the sun's service the whole environment changed. It became

:02:00.:02:04.

instantly darker, the temperature dropped drastically and everyone

:02:05.:02:08.

gathered together just in absolute awe. They were gasping, shouting

:02:09.:02:12.

while and just laughing at the marvel that they were witnessing.

:02:13.:02:16.

But the true amazing part of this and what made the total solar

:02:17.:02:20.

eclipse so different from witnessing a partial eclipse was seeing how

:02:21.:02:27.

bright the corona, that a ring of light, how brightly that shines. I

:02:28.:02:31.

think that is what everybody was so in awe of for those two minutes and

:02:32.:02:36.

40 seconds, experiencing something that most here have never seen

:02:37.:02:41.

before. And it really was a true moment of joy, it was amazing to see

:02:42.:02:46.

everybody here witness it together. Awesome pictures.

:02:47.:02:47.

Next to a quick round up of the top sports stories.

:02:48.:02:50.

And it was even stevens for Manchester City and Everton

:02:51.:02:52.

in the Premier League last night - who had to settle

:02:53.:02:55.

Wayne Rooney scored for Everton - his 200th goal in the Premier League

:02:56.:02:59.

- before Raheem Sterling equalised for City.

:03:00.:03:00.

Both teams finished with only ten men, with Kyle Walker

:03:01.:03:03.

and Morgan Schneiderlin picking up two yellow cards each.

:03:04.:03:06.

And England's women are gearing up for their Rugby World Cup semi-final

:03:07.:03:09.

Lydia Thompson starts on the wing for England after recovering

:03:10.:03:14.

from a knee injury that caused her to miss their last

:03:15.:03:17.

Strictly fans, it's time to celebrate.

:03:18.:03:23.

The new series starts next month, and now we know the full celebrity

:03:24.:03:26.

line-up as the the final three contestants were

:03:27.:03:28.

Paralympic sprinter Jonnie Peacock will be going for gold on the dance

:03:29.:03:33.

floor, he'll be the first contestant with a disability to take

:03:34.:03:36.

Former X-Factor winner Alexandra Burke, and TV presenter

:03:37.:03:39.

Head to Newsround online to see all the other celebs taking part,

:03:40.:03:49.

Some of you are already back at school, and some go back

:03:50.:03:52.

You might have seen, we've had a big vote

:03:53.:03:56.

We asked "Should boys and girls have different school uniforms?"

:03:57.:03:59.

Well, the vote has now closed, and I can reveal the results.

:04:00.:04:02.

So, it was very close - 49% of you say no, and 51%

:04:03.:04:05.

of you say yes, boys and girls should have different

:04:06.:04:08.

You sent in loads of comments about this, let's have a look...

:04:09.:04:15.

HermioneFan says "I think boys and girls should

:04:16.:04:17.

wear the same uniform, because if your school goes

:04:18.:04:20.

anywhere, everyone will know what school you are from."

:04:21.:04:22.

CandyflossUnicorngirl, says "I think boys should be able

:04:23.:04:24.

to wear what girls wear, and girls should be able

:04:25.:04:27.

to wear what boys wear, it's fair and that way everybody

:04:28.:04:29.

ImaginePonies says "I think all children should be allowed

:04:30.:04:33.

to wear whatever type of uniform they want."

:04:34.:04:34.

And GlassLoopyPotato - great name - said "If I was the head teacher

:04:35.:04:38.

of my school I would ban uniform because it is very boring!"

:04:39.:04:42.

So lots of opinions there, head to the Newsround

:04:43.:04:44.

That's all for now, Newsround's back right here at 8:15am.
