Hello, you're watching Newsround, this Thursday afternoon.

:00:12.:00:13.

First to London, where many people have come forward to praise

:00:14.:00:16.

the emergency services for the work they did to keep people safe

:00:17.:00:19.

after a serious attack in the capital yesterday.

:00:20.:00:21.

Four people died, including a policeman and the man

:00:22.:00:23.

Hi, Jenny, I'm near to the Houses of Parliament in Westminster in London.

:00:24.:00:44.

Westminster Bridge has been reopened.

:00:45.:00:48.

It's been a day of tributes to the people who have died

:00:49.:00:52.

and been hurt in this attack and to the emergency services who've

:00:53.:00:55.

I've been looking into exactly what happened here yesterday.

:00:56.:01:02.

A minute's silence at the houses of parliament in London, the lights

:01:03.:01:09.

turning off of the Eiffel Tower in France, a flag at half-mast as a

:01:10.:01:15.

sign of respect. Just some of the tributes to the people who lost

:01:16.:01:20.

their lives in an attack on Westminster on Wednesday afternoon.

:01:21.:01:28.

MPs paid tribute to the victims and bravery of the emergency services.

:01:29.:01:32.

We will remember the exceptional livery of our police, and emergency

:01:33.:01:37.

services, who once again ran towards the danger while they encouraged

:01:38.:01:41.

others to go the other way. On the half of the whole country and want

:01:42.:01:45.

to pay tribute to them for the work they have been doing to reassure the

:01:46.:01:49.

public, treat the injured and bring security back to the streets of our

:01:50.:01:54.

capital city. Police say a man drove a car over Westminster Bridge on

:01:55.:01:58.

Wednesday afternoon knocking people over. Many were hurt and some of

:01:59.:02:02.

them have died. He attacked a policeman before being shot and

:02:03.:02:10.

killed by police. The police officer who was attacked sadly died. These

:02:11.:02:13.

are investigating what happened and why. They say the man who carried

:02:14.:02:17.

out the attack was born in Britain and they believe he was influenced

:02:18.:02:22.

by international terrorism. The group that calls itself Islamic

:02:23.:02:25.

State said it carried out the attack, but that hasn't been

:02:26.:02:29.

confirmed. In London, people have been going about their everyday

:02:30.:02:32.

lives, but there are still lots of extra police on the streets of

:02:33.:02:36.

London to make sure people feel safe.

:02:37.:02:39.

So, Ayshah, what is it like in London today?

:02:40.:02:46.

Westminster Bridge has reopened, so things are getting back to normal. I

:02:47.:02:55.

am a Londoner and it feels a little bit louder than it would be with

:02:56.:03:00.

sirens and helicopters, but apart from that it is quite normal. I went

:03:01.:03:05.

to speak to some kids at a school in London about what happened.

:03:06.:03:08.

When I first heard about the attacks, I was quite scared that

:03:09.:03:11.

more would happen and more people would die.

:03:12.:03:13.

My mum was playing the radio and we all went in to have dinner.

:03:14.:03:16.

She told us all to be quiet and we all started listening

:03:17.:03:19.

Like, I have got younger siblings and they didn't understand.

:03:20.:03:24.

I found out as soon as I got out of class and I got my phone

:03:25.:03:27.

because that's when my mum calls me every day.

:03:28.:03:30.

She works in that sort of area and I was glad

:03:31.:03:32.

My two aunties weren't allowed to leave their work

:03:33.:03:36.

So, I was a bit scared, but when they found out

:03:37.:03:40.

that they could leave and I was happy again.

:03:41.:03:42.

I felt really sad for the people who died.

:03:43.:03:44.

I watched the news for a bit, but I wasn't really that bothered

:03:45.:03:47.

When I came to school I bought the newspaper and put it

:03:48.:03:52.

on the table and I was saying to my friends, "So,

:03:53.:03:55.

In our school, it hasn't really affected us that much,

:03:56.:03:59.

so the overall mood was just kind of normal.

:04:00.:04:02.

The mood just seem a bit gloomier, in a way, and sadder

:04:03.:04:05.

because lots of people were affected by - family members or they knew

:04:06.:04:08.

somebody who was around that area who could've got hurt.

:04:09.:04:11.

My mum told me that there was going to be much more police

:04:12.:04:14.

around and it will be much safer around the area.

:04:15.:04:17.

I think I am just going to do my daily life because I just

:04:18.:04:20.

want to get it out of my head so I don't have to worry about it.

:04:21.:04:25.

Talking to people really helps it go down and helps me

:04:26.:04:27.

Those were some children that they spoke to earlier. Joining me now is

:04:28.:04:48.

the MP, Heidi Alexander. You were caught up in things yesterday. You

:04:49.:04:53.

posted on social media earlier about the emergency services. I will do

:04:54.:04:58.

you think they have done? I think they did an incredible job. The

:04:59.:05:02.

policemen and women, all of the security staff in the House of

:05:03.:05:06.

Commons, the doctors and nurses from Saint Thomas Ince hospital responded

:05:07.:05:11.

very quickly. The man who attacked parliament yesterday was not able to

:05:12.:05:15.

get any more than a couple of metres beyond the gate, so they did an

:05:16.:05:20.

incredible job and they do an incredible job every day of every

:05:21.:05:25.

week of every year so we all wanted to say a big thank you to them. You

:05:26.:05:29.

have gone back to work today in Parliament. Why is that important? I

:05:30.:05:34.

think it is important because the man who carried out the attack

:05:35.:05:38.

yesterday wants people to change the way they go about living in their

:05:39.:05:43.

daily lives. Parliament is a really important place, where we make the

:05:44.:05:47.

laws of the country, where MPs can ask the Prime Minister and other

:05:48.:05:52.

government ministers questions about important issues, so it is really

:05:53.:05:57.

important that we carry on, go back to work and do the things that we

:05:58.:06:00.

need to do in order to keep the country running. Thank you, Heidi,

:06:01.:06:08.

for joining us. When I have been talking to people today they said

:06:09.:06:11.

that London are going back to normal. The hashtag that are

:06:12.:06:16.

trending hourly London is strong, London is open. Act to the studio.

:06:17.:06:19.

Well, this morning, we asked if you had any questions

:06:20.:06:22.

Leah has been looking at them and is with me now.

:06:23.:06:26.

Hi, Jenny, yes lots of people have been in touch.

:06:27.:06:28.

Year 8 at Isebrook SEN College asked, "Why did

:06:29.:06:31.

London is the capital of the UK and Westminster is a really

:06:32.:06:36.

important place and sometimes a target for attacks.

:06:37.:06:40.

But London has some of the best security in place to prevent rare

:06:41.:06:43.

Ashely, who is nine, from Woolwich has been in touch too

:06:44.:06:49.

There are thousands of police officers in London protecting

:06:50.:06:57.

the city and the people who live in it.

:06:58.:07:03.

Londoners will be carrying on with life, going to work

:07:04.:07:05.

or school and while you may notice more police officers on the street

:07:06.:07:08.

Amber aged nine says: "This could affect children in the future

:07:09.:07:15.

If people are worrying, how should they deal with this

:07:16.:07:22.

It's perfectly normal to feel upset or even worried

:07:23.:07:25.

It's really important to talk to friends, teachers or family

:07:26.:07:29.

Always remember that attacks like this are rare and the people

:07:30.:07:33.

who were affected will be getting help to recover

:07:34.:07:35.

There's more information about everything that's happened

:07:36.:07:39.

in London online and also more about who the group IS are.

:07:40.:07:42.

And remember, if this story, or anything else in the news upsets

:07:43.:07:45.

you, go to our guide for help and advice.

:07:46.:07:49.

That's all from the teams in London and Salford today, Newsround's back

:07:50.:07:53.
