Hi, guys - it's Hayley here with the big stories

0:00:040:00:06

this Thursday afternoon.

0:00:060:00:07

Coming up...

0:00:070:00:08

Floods hit south-east England.

0:00:080:00:12

And the very happy Icelandic football commentator.

0:00:120:00:14

COMMENTATOR SCREAMS.

0:00:140:00:19

First - to the BIG story that you're loving on Newsround online today.

0:00:270:00:30

Yep, this is our Ayshah going down the world's tallest

0:00:300:00:33

and longest tunnel slide!

0:00:330:00:34

It's opening in London tomorrow in the park where the 2012

0:00:340:00:37

Olympics took place...

0:00:370:00:42

Since the Games finished, the site has been transformed and has hosted

0:00:420:00:45

lots of other sporting events.

0:00:450:00:47

But what could this huge sculpture be turned into?

0:00:470:00:49

A giant slide, of course.

0:00:490:00:52

We were first asked about it two years ago.

0:00:520:00:54

They said, is it possible to have a slide?

0:00:540:00:57

The answer is of course yes, we want to have a slide.

0:00:570:01:00

How did you go about doing it?

0:01:000:01:01

We had to track it out.

0:01:010:01:03

We went down some other big slides and any had to

0:01:030:01:05

work out how to go the right speed.

0:01:050:01:07

If you add in corners, as you are pushed out into the

0:01:070:01:10

corner that helps you go down a bit and so the corners are not just

0:01:100:01:14

for fun, they help control the speed on the way down.

0:01:140:01:17

There's only one thing for it.

0:01:170:01:18

I'm going to have to slide down.

0:01:180:01:19

But not for fun because I am a serious news journalist

0:01:190:01:22

so I'm going to be getting you all the facts you need

0:01:220:01:25

to know while I'm sliding down.

0:01:250:01:26

It goes round 12 times and is taller than the Statue of Liberty.

0:01:260:01:30

I'm going 15 miles an hour right now but

0:01:300:01:32

it feels so much faster.

0:01:320:01:33

And I can't remember any of the other facts

0:01:330:01:35

because I'm going way too fast!

0:01:350:01:45

Wait, it is 111 mes.

0:01:560:01:57

The things I do for Newsround.

0:01:570:01:59

OK, time for a quick round-up of today's other big stories.

0:01:590:02:02

London and south-east England have been hit by sudden floods after

0:02:020:02:04

heavy rain and lightning overnight.

0:02:040:02:05

People in this home woke up to water coming UP through their toilet.

0:02:050:02:09

One month's worth of rain fell overnight -

0:02:090:02:10

and forecasters say there's more wet weather to come.

0:02:100:02:18

These guys wouldn't mind a bit of rainy weather...

0:02:180:02:20

They're mountain chicken frogs and they're critically endangered.

0:02:200:02:22

Now a plan to help save them has started in the north of England.

0:02:220:02:25

Conservationists have created a climate-controlled home

0:02:250:02:27

in a shipping container at Chester Zoo and matched up frogs

0:02:270:02:29

in the hope they'll breed.

0:02:290:02:36

And some of you may have had your schools turned

0:02:360:02:39

into polling stations today.

0:02:390:02:40

It's because there's a massive vote for adults

0:02:400:02:42

on whether the UK should stay in, or leave, a club of countries

0:02:420:02:45

called the European Union.

0:02:450:02:46

Voting ends at 10pm - and we'll bring you the result

0:02:460:02:48

tomorrow on Newsround.

0:02:480:02:54

Next - it's on an epic journey around the world

0:02:540:02:57

and now Solar Impulse 2, the plane that flies with no fuel

0:02:570:03:00

has made it to Spain after leaving New York earlier this week.

0:03:000:03:07

Touching down in Seville this morning...

0:03:070:03:08

Solar Impulse 2 is getting closer to completing

0:03:080:03:10

its round-the-world trip.

0:03:100:03:11

The aim of the mission is to show what solar power can do.

0:03:110:03:15

The future is clean and it starts now.

0:03:150:03:21

The aircraft is powered by 17,000 solar cells that power

0:03:210:03:23

the motors and batteries.

0:03:230:03:25

The journey started in March last year in Abu Dhabi -

0:03:250:03:28

stopping off in countries like India, China and Japan.

0:03:280:03:30

From there, it flew to Hawaii - a record flight that

0:03:300:03:33

lasted almost five days.

0:03:330:03:35

But the plane damaged its batteries and had to stay

0:03:350:03:37

grounded for 10 months.

0:03:370:03:38

Then in April this year, Solar Impulse 2 took to the skies

0:03:380:03:41

again, stopping at different states in America.

0:03:410:03:43

It left New York on Monday to cross the Atlantic Ocean.

0:03:430:03:46

Now it's safe in Spain, the crew have to work out a route

0:03:460:03:53

to get back to Abu Dhabi where the adventure first began.

0:03:530:04:00

From solar to star - a footy star that is!

0:04:000:04:03

It's been confirmed that Jamie Vardy will be staying at Leicester City.

0:04:030:04:06

The club announced today that they'd agreed a deal with the striker -

0:04:060:04:10

who's in France for the Euros - to stay on for four more years.

0:04:100:04:13

There was talk that Vardy might leave the Foxes for Arsenal,

0:04:130:04:16

after the Gunners made a bid for him earlier this month.

0:04:160:04:23

That news will make many Leicester fans happy -

0:04:230:04:25

but probably not quite as happy as this Euro 2016

0:04:250:04:27

commentator for Iceland...

0:04:270:04:29

COMMENTATOR SCREAMS.

0:04:290:04:32

..Who erupted with joy after Iceland scored a last-minute

0:04:320:04:34

winner against Austria to make the knockout stage.

0:04:340:04:37

And guess who they're playing next - England!

0:04:370:04:47

That's all from the team and I for today.

0:04:490:04:51

Newsround's back on CBBC tomorrow morning at 7:40.

0:04:510:04:53

Have a great evening.
