Good morning - you're watching
Newsround with me, Ricky. | 0:00:14 | 0:00:17
First today, we're talking
about Kyle Edmund - | 0:00:17 | 0:00:20
the tennis player from Yorkshire
who's about to step out | 0:00:20 | 0:00:22
onto the court to play
in the semi-finals of | 0:00:22 | 0:00:25
the Australian Open Grand Slam. | 0:00:25 | 0:00:27
These kids from Kyle's old school
have been sending their support... | 0:00:27 | 0:00:35
We would all like to give you a
really good luck and I hope you do | 0:00:37 | 0:00:42
well in this semifinal. Good luck,
Kyle, playing in the semifinals. I | 0:00:42 | 0:00:46
hope you have a good time. It's
really inspiring because I'm in the | 0:00:46 | 0:00:54
same class and feet as him. So I
just feel really inspired and really | 0:00:54 | 0:01:00
grateful that someone hours but was
famous came to our school as well. I | 0:01:00 | 0:01:04
feel really proud because he came
here and now I'm here and I might | 0:01:04 | 0:01:10
become a good sports but unlike him.
Good luck, Kyle. Our teachers are | 0:01:10 | 0:01:17
really looking forward to you doing
it! Go, Kyle! You are doing really | 0:01:17 | 0:01:24
good. And you were so kind to, and
spent a day at our school and come | 0:01:24 | 0:01:30
and sign 380 tennis balls. We have
kept all the tennis balls. Go, Kyle! | 0:01:30 | 0:01:38
Good luck! | 0:01:38 | 0:01:41
Well that lot are all backing him. | 0:01:41 | 0:01:43
But what about the experts? | 0:01:43 | 0:01:44
The BBC's Russell Fuller
is in Australia, so we asked him | 0:01:44 | 0:01:46
what he thinks about Kyle's
chances... | 0:01:46 | 0:01:49
No British man other than Andy
Murray has reached this stage of the | 0:01:49 | 0:01:52
Australian open for over 40 years.
Kyle Edmund is fairly quiet, fairly | 0:01:52 | 0:01:58
reserved. He loves his football and
is a big Liverpool fan. He's also | 0:01:58 | 0:02:02
into Formula 1 and motorbikes. He is
an underdog but playing with a lot | 0:02:02 | 0:02:07
of confidence and hits his forehand
more powerfully than virtually any | 0:02:07 | 0:02:10
other man on the tour. | 0:02:10 | 0:02:13
In other sport news,
Arsene Wenger's side took a big step | 0:02:13 | 0:02:15
closer to League Cup victory last
night after Arsenal beat Chelsea. | 0:02:15 | 0:02:18
Chelsea started well
when Eden Hazard put them ahead. | 0:02:18 | 0:02:22
But Arsenal levelled
after a double deflection resulted | 0:02:22 | 0:02:24
in an Antonio Rudiger own goal. | 0:02:24 | 0:02:29
The winner came at 60 minutes
when Granit Xhaka secured his team's | 0:02:29 | 0:02:33
place in the finals at Wembley
in a month's time. | 0:02:33 | 0:02:40
The victory is a boost
for the Gunners who've dropped | 0:02:40 | 0:02:43
to sixth place in the Premier
League. | 0:02:43 | 0:02:44
They're hoping to win their first
trophy in five years. | 0:02:44 | 0:02:47
Next, we're talking
about young carers. | 0:02:47 | 0:02:48
These are young people who have
to look after parents or siblings | 0:02:48 | 0:02:51
who struggle to care for themselves
because of illness. | 0:02:51 | 0:02:53
Tens of thousands of children
in the UK care for an adult | 0:02:53 | 0:02:56
in their life and Newsround has been
hearing from kids who care | 0:02:56 | 0:02:59
for relatives suffering
from mental illness. | 0:02:59 | 0:03:00
This is Charlotte's story. | 0:03:00 | 0:03:08
One of the first elements I remember
about caring for my mum was that she | 0:03:09 | 0:03:13
never really used to be able to do
things other mums would do. Every so | 0:03:13 | 0:03:17
often, things would get way too much
for her and she'd have to go and lay | 0:03:17 | 0:03:22
down or withdraw herself from
situations and as a kid, that would | 0:03:22 | 0:03:26
make me feel really bad so I'd try
to make our feel happy or do things | 0:03:26 | 0:03:30
for her or draw things for her to
lighten the mood. I see other mums | 0:03:30 | 0:03:35
lifting up their kids and going
running with them and stuff and I'd | 0:03:35 | 0:03:43
be like, why can't man do that for
me? There was an absence of this | 0:03:43 | 0:03:46
kind of fine blubbing -- fun loving
mum that I used to know, really. But | 0:03:46 | 0:03:49
she couldn't help it. I didn't blame
her for it but I knew something | 0:03:49 | 0:03:52
wasn't right. A certain teacher
helped me realise that something | 0:03:52 | 0:03:56
really was wrong. She's one of the
first people that I ever told and I | 0:03:56 | 0:03:59
got the support that I needed. I
just break down in tears. I wasn't | 0:03:59 | 0:04:05
sad, it was just kind of the
realisation that that was was wrong | 0:04:05 | 0:04:09
and at that point it was, oh, my
God, that's what's wrong. And she | 0:04:09 | 0:04:14
nodded at me. And she said, you know
what, that's OK. We are going to | 0:04:14 | 0:04:20
work three days. It sounds really
cliched, but at that moment, I | 0:04:20 | 0:04:24
didn't feel like I was completely
alone any more. There's a lot of | 0:04:24 | 0:04:29
experiences to be had and some of
them will be good and some bad. | 0:04:29 | 0:04:32
That's OK because being a young
carer have definitely made me who I | 0:04:32 | 0:04:36
am. I wouldn't be half as resilient
if I hadn't gone through that. I | 0:04:36 | 0:04:40
know how to deal with the
disappointments or the anxieties | 0:04:40 | 0:04:44
because I've seen my mum go through
it for one and I've had to go | 0:04:44 | 0:04:47
through it with her. | 0:04:47 | 0:04:49
Head online where you can find
more about what it means | 0:04:49 | 0:04:52
to be a young carer. | 0:04:52 | 0:04:55
