Hey, guys.

0:00:120:00:13

I'm Naz,

and this is Newsround.

0:00:130:00:16

The Closing Ceremony of

the Winter Olympics has taken place.

0:00:160:00:20

There were lots of fireworks,

music and entertainment

0:00:200:00:22

as the athletes celebrated

the end of the 2018 Games.

0:00:220:00:27

Team GB came 19th in the medal

table - winning five.

0:00:270:00:30

Snowboader Billy Morgan

carried the flag.

0:00:300:00:38

Athletes from Russia

were not allowed to parade

0:00:390:00:40

under the Russian flag.

0:00:400:00:42

168 of them competed

at the Winter Games,

0:00:420:00:44

but under a neutral flag.

0:00:440:00:45

The country was banned

from the Olympics because of doping

0:00:450:00:47

at the last Games in Sochi.

0:00:470:00:48

It is thought the Russian Government

may have helped athletes take drugs

0:00:480:00:51

to give themselves an unfair

advantage in competitions.

0:00:510:00:53

But now the ban could be lifted

if there is no more doping.

0:00:530:01:01

On to footy now.

In the Premier League,

0:01:010:01:03

Tottenham and Crystal

Palace ended 1-0.

0:01:030:01:05

Harry Kane scored

in the 89th minute.

0:01:050:01:06

And at Old Trafford,

Man United are playing Chelsea.

0:01:060:01:09

United need to win if they want

to get back to second in the table.

0:01:090:01:15

And later it's the first big final

of the year,

0:01:150:01:17

as Arsenal take on

Manchester City at Wembley

0:01:170:01:19

in the League Cup.

0:01:190:01:21

Both teams will hoping

to get their hands on their

0:01:210:01:24

first trophy this year.

0:01:240:01:28

Next, Steve Backshall

is taking on one of the scariest

0:01:280:01:31

challenges of his life -

0:01:310:01:32

trying to climb a huge

mountain in Switzerland.

0:01:320:01:35

The north face of the Eiger

is 1,800 metres high

0:01:350:01:37

and very hard to climb.

0:01:370:01:41

So Steve's practicing on another

massive Swiss mountain and we've

0:01:410:01:45

just heard how he's got on.

0:01:450:01:47

So, we are over halfway

up the Stockhorn.

0:01:470:01:51

I am on the lead.

0:01:510:01:54

Leo is down behind me

in the gully somewhere.

0:01:540:01:57

It is absolutely stonking up here.

0:01:570:02:02

We have probably only

got, I don't know,

0:02:020:02:06

about an hour's climbing more to go

until we reach the summit.

0:02:060:02:09

And about time!

0:02:090:02:11

I could really do with a cup of tea.

0:02:110:02:17

We are on the summit

of the Stockhorn.

0:02:170:02:19

The wind is raging up here.

And that is our view.

0:02:190:02:23

We are up above the clouds.

And I am out of here!

0:02:230:02:27

Well done, Steve!

0:02:270:02:29

And if you want to know more,

then head to the CBBC website.

0:02:290:02:35

Next, Dr Tom has the answer to a big

question ? how are fireworks made?

0:02:350:02:39

Dr Tom is an expert,

so please don't try this at home.

0:02:390:02:47

Hello, I'm Dr Tom.

0:02:500:02:53

I'm a fireworks expert

and I'm here to answer this

0:02:530:02:55

week's big question.

0:02:550:02:56

Which is...

0:02:560:03:03

So fireworks are really

just lots of different

0:03:030:03:06

chemical reactions going on,

so to make colours we add metal

0:03:060:03:08

salts to the basic firework mix.

0:03:080:03:10

So, to get a red we strontium salts.

0:03:100:03:12

To get the green

we add barium salts.

0:03:120:03:14

To get yellow, we add sodium salts.

0:03:140:03:16

And to get a blue, which is the most

difficult firework colour

0:03:160:03:20

to get, you add copper

salts to the basic mix.

0:03:200:03:23

So what you would pack

into the fireworks to make

0:03:230:03:25

the effect in the sky

are what are called stars.

0:03:250:03:27

And there is a star.

0:03:270:03:29

This happens to be one that

will burn violet and then when it

0:03:290:03:32

gets towards the middle,

it changes and burns

0:03:320:03:34

with silver sparks.

0:03:340:03:35

It is about the size of a pea

and there will be hundreds of those

0:03:350:03:38

within the firework shell.

0:03:380:03:39

Black powder, or gunpowder

as some people call it,

0:03:390:03:43

is one of the key ingredients

when making fireworks.

0:03:430:03:46

It is there for two properties.

0:03:460:03:49

Sometimes to produce gold sparks

of long duration that flow down

0:03:490:03:51

to the ground and make a very pretty

visual effect, but more often

0:03:510:03:59

Sometimes to produce gold sparks

of long duration that flow down

0:04:050:04:07

to the ground and make a very pretty

visual effect, but more often

0:04:070:04:10

as a propellant to shoot the shell

into the sky or to be

0:04:100:04:13

the motor of a rocket.

0:04:130:04:15

The firework sounds,

like whistles and screeches,

0:04:150:04:16

are made from a different

type of chemistry.

0:04:160:04:18

And what we do as we press a little

tiny amount of this compound recipe

0:04:180:04:22

into the bottom of the tube and then

the rest of the tube acts

0:04:220:04:25

like an organ pipe to amplify

the sound and make a really loud

0:04:250:04:28

sound that we here

at firework display.

0:04:280:04:30

So this is a firework mortar.

0:04:300:04:31

It is what is used to fire

at the fireworks up into the air.

0:04:310:04:35

At a big show, we would have

hundreds and hundreds

0:04:350:04:37

of these together.

0:04:370:04:38

Here is the shell that goes in it.

0:04:380:04:40

The bottom part is with a black

powder is that's going to propel

0:04:400:04:43

the shell in the air and the top

half is the bit that is full

0:04:430:04:47

of the stars that produce that big

burst of colour in the sky.

0:04:470:04:50

It's that time of the week again

when things get a little strange

0:04:500:04:53

around here.

0:04:530:04:54

Yes, it's time for Strange,

Stranger, Strangest.

0:04:540:04:56

First, check out these happy feet.

0:04:560:04:57

Actor David Harper kept his promise

of dancing with penguins

0:04:570:05:00

in Antarctica on Valentine's Day.

0:05:000:05:01

The Stranger Things actor has

linked up with charity

0:05:010:05:03

Greenpeace to raise awareness

of the environmenal challenges

0:05:030:05:05

facing this part of the world.

0:05:050:05:11

Nice moves, David!

0:05:110:05:12

Next, check out this

amazing pyramid of dolls.

0:05:120:05:17

It was constructed in Japan to mark

the country's annual

0:05:170:05:19

Festival for Daughters.

0:05:190:05:22

There are around 1,800

dolls on the pyramid,

0:05:220:05:26

and people across Japan donated

the dolls for the show.

0:05:260:05:30

If you love fashion,

and you love animals,

0:05:300:05:32

this story is for you.

0:05:320:05:35

Models at a fashion show for big

designer brand Gucci have taken

0:05:350:05:39

to the catwalk carrying some

very unusual accessories.

0:05:390:05:44

These realistic-looking

animal figures.

0:05:440:05:45

They included a chameleon, a snake,

and even a baby dragon,

0:05:450:05:49

and were made by a top

visual effects company.

0:05:490:05:51

Try wearing one of those

at your next disco!

0:05:510:05:55

That's it from me.

0:05:550:05:57

Ricky is back bright and early

tomorrow morning at 7:40am.

0:05:570:05:59
