Hi, I'm Ricky and this is Newsround live on CBBC. | 0:00:09 | 0:00:12
Coming up... | 0:00:12 | 0:00:14
The new arm helping this girl make music. | 0:00:14 | 0:00:17
The 101-year-old athlete winning big. | 0:00:17 | 0:00:20
And could this flying car be the new way to get around? | 0:00:20 | 0:00:30
But first, do your parents spend too much time on one of these, | 0:00:32 | 0:00:37
their phones? | 0:00:37 | 0:00:38
A big survey suggests that some children are worried | 0:00:38 | 0:00:40
about the amount of time mums and dads spend | 0:00:40 | 0:00:42
checking their phones. | 0:00:42 | 0:00:44
More than a third of 11-18-year-olds said they asked | 0:00:44 | 0:00:46
their parents to limit their time on their phones. | 0:00:46 | 0:00:50
A small number of kids said their parents' addiction to tech | 0:00:50 | 0:00:53
stopped the family from enjoying each other's company. | 0:00:53 | 0:00:57
And we want to know what you think. | 0:00:57 | 0:00:59
Do your parents spend too much time on their phones, | 0:00:59 | 0:01:01
or do they say that you do? | 0:01:01 | 0:01:03
Go online now to have your say. | 0:01:03 | 0:01:06
Next, quite a lot of you guys love the sound of the end of school bell | 0:01:06 | 0:01:10
but for many primary school children living in China's capital Beijing, | 0:01:10 | 0:01:12
hometime is only the start of the day. | 0:01:12 | 0:01:14
Here's why! | 0:01:14 | 0:01:15
SCHOOL BELL RINGS. | 0:01:15 | 0:01:18
That sound in the afternoon usually means it's time | 0:01:18 | 0:01:20
to go home from school. | 0:01:20 | 0:01:23
Well, yes, for most of us in the UK. | 0:01:23 | 0:01:26
But if we cross over 6,500 miles to Beijing in China, | 0:01:26 | 0:01:28
that sound can sometimes mean more learning. | 0:01:28 | 0:01:31
You may have heard of or even seen one of these before. | 0:01:31 | 0:01:36
It's called the abacus, | 0:01:36 | 0:01:38
which was used before your parents were even born | 0:01:38 | 0:01:40
to learn how to count. | 0:01:40 | 0:01:44
Basically, it's a very old-fashioned calculator | 0:01:44 | 0:01:46
that uses beads to count big sums, | 0:01:46 | 0:01:48
and it's one of the things the students here are using to learn. | 0:01:48 | 0:01:53
What I'm about to say may shock some of you, | 0:01:53 | 0:01:55
but the pupils here are sometimes volunteering to stay | 0:01:55 | 0:01:58
for after school lessons for up to 12 extra hours a week! | 0:01:58 | 0:02:06
TRANSLATION: I have Tuesday and Sunday off. | 0:02:06 | 0:02:08
I do English, painting, abacus and lots of others. | 0:02:08 | 0:02:10
On Sunday, it's my favourite, robot class. | 0:02:10 | 0:02:17
Many people here think that if they don't take up extra classes, | 0:02:17 | 0:02:20
they will fall behind their mates. | 0:02:20 | 0:02:22
Their grades are improving because of it, so it's pretty hard | 0:02:22 | 0:02:24
to see it as a bad thing. | 0:02:24 | 0:02:31
But the question is, guys, would you want to give up your spare | 0:02:31 | 0:02:34
time to learn more things like the abacus? | 0:02:34 | 0:02:40
Now to a ten-year-old girl | 0:02:40 | 0:02:41
from America who has just received an important gift that | 0:02:41 | 0:02:44
has changed her life. | 0:02:44 | 0:02:46
Meet Isabel, and check out her brand-new prosthetic arm. | 0:02:46 | 0:02:48
It was 3-D printed just for her so she could play the violin | 0:02:48 | 0:02:51
after signing up to a music class at school. | 0:02:51 | 0:02:53
Isabel was born with an incomplete left arm, which makes playing | 0:02:53 | 0:02:56
the violin difficult. | 0:02:56 | 0:02:57
But that did not stop her. | 0:02:57 | 0:03:05
My mom's phrase is when you say "I can't do it", | 0:03:05 | 0:03:07
it's "I can't do it YET". | 0:03:07 | 0:03:09
Her music teacher fashioned a makeshift prosthetic arm | 0:03:09 | 0:03:11
to hold her bow, then called his university | 0:03:11 | 0:03:13
to help out. | 0:03:13 | 0:03:16
A team of five students designed a pretty blingy arm for her, | 0:03:16 | 0:03:19
and now Isabel's new arm allows her to hold and | 0:03:19 | 0:03:21
move the bow properly. | 0:03:21 | 0:03:22
I have to say thank you to them, | 0:03:22 | 0:03:24
because without them I couldn't really be able to play. | 0:03:24 | 0:03:26
They also made a grip | 0:03:26 | 0:03:31
so that she can ride a bike with both arms. | 0:03:31 | 0:03:34
Since the university students designed Isabel's arm, | 0:03:34 | 0:03:35
they've been getting even more requests. | 0:03:35 | 0:03:41
So thanks to Isabel, other people can now benefit | 0:03:41 | 0:03:43
from a new 3-D printed arm. | 0:03:43 | 0:03:49
Next up, the Olympics has nothing on this next sporting event. | 0:03:49 | 0:03:51
The World Masters Games in New Zealand features | 0:03:51 | 0:03:53
some of the oldest sportsmen and women in the world. | 0:03:53 | 0:03:58
Man Kaur here from India is 101 years old and she won gold | 0:03:58 | 0:04:01
in the 100 metres sprint, her time, one minute, 14 seconds! | 0:04:01 | 0:04:04
She was guaranteed a medal because she was the only runner | 0:04:04 | 0:04:06
in the over 100 category. | 0:04:06 | 0:04:13
Next, the candy house causing a bit of trouble in London. | 0:04:13 | 0:04:16
A woman who decorated her multi-million pound house with red | 0:04:16 | 0:04:18
and white stripes has been told she doesn't have to change it. | 0:04:18 | 0:04:21
The local council had said the design didn't fit | 0:04:21 | 0:04:23
in with the look of the area and ordered her to repaint it white. | 0:04:23 | 0:04:27
But a court has now allowed it to stay. | 0:04:27 | 0:04:35
Now, how do you fancy getting a lift to school on one of these? | 0:04:35 | 0:04:39
This is the view from a new "personal flying machine" | 0:04:39 | 0:04:41
which can reach speeds up to 25 miles an hour. | 0:04:41 | 0:04:44
It's powered by eight rotor blades, and like a helicopter, it can take | 0:04:44 | 0:04:47
off and land vertically. | 0:04:47 | 0:04:47
The company behind "the Flyer" hope to have it on sale | 0:04:47 | 0:04:50
by the end of the year. | 0:04:50 | 0:04:55
That's all from me. | 0:04:55 | 0:04:55
Newsround's back right here in about half an hour. | 0:04:55 | 0:05:01
Whoo! The Dumping Ground - I'm Finn is only moments away. | 0:05:07 | 0:05:10
