Hello, it's Wednesday morning, I'm Ayshah and I've got your top

:00:00.:00:12.

stories. On the way: man city step up the pressure on Chelsea with a

:00:13.:00:17.

three - zero drubbing of United. And I'm here to talk about books and

:00:18.:00:26.

boys with Frank Lampard. First up though - many of you in

:00:27.:00:30.

England and Wales will be off school today as thousands of teachers go on

:00:31.:00:33.

strike. Members of the National Union of Teachers aren't going into

:00:34.:00:36.

work today in protest over changes that the government wants to make to

:00:37.:00:40.

their pay, and how much they work. The government says by not going to

:00:41.:00:43.

work teachers are damaging children's learning, but the union

:00:44.:00:46.

says they've been forced into it, because talks about the issue were

:00:47.:00:51.

not working. This year marks a hundred years

:00:52.:00:54.

since the beginning of World War I. Around ten million soldiers were

:00:55.:00:58.

killed in battle in the Great War between 1914 and 1918. The conflict

:00:59.:01:01.

was so destructive that people at the time thought it was the war that

:01:02.:01:05.

would end all wars. A century on, people are still fighting in wars

:01:06.:01:08.

around the world, including British troops in Afghanistan. For some

:01:09.:01:11.

families, serving in the forces is a family tradition. We've been to meet

:01:12.:01:15.

brothers Bry and Baz who come from a family of soldiers.

:01:16.:01:20.

Generations of men from Bry's family have served their country in every

:01:21.:01:26.

war since the First World War. I've got two brothers and a sister what

:01:27.:01:30.

are in the army now, my granddad used to be in the army...my great

:01:31.:01:34.

granddad Basil was in World War II and served as a desert rat, and his

:01:35.:01:41.

dad was in World War I. His great great granddad Fred was sent to

:01:42.:01:45.

France in 1915 to fight in the trenches. He sent this letter back

:01:46.:01:55.

to his children from the front line. This letter will take about ten days

:01:56.:01:59.

to come, so by the time I get your answer I shall be off the line.

:02:00.:02:03.

Well, must close now, with love to all. I remain your loving Dad.

:02:04.:02:07.

Thousands of men like Fred went to war and many of them never returned.

:02:08.:02:13.

It must have felt horrible for him as he was in trenches. People

:02:14.:02:16.

running across to kill him, people dying around him, he must have been

:02:17.:02:24.

in shock and horror. Fred was killed in action in July 1916. In World War

:02:25.:02:28.

I, most men were called told to join the army by the government,

:02:29.:02:31.

something called conscription, but nowadays people can choose to sign

:02:32.:02:34.

up. Bry's older brother Baz is only 16, but has already joined the army

:02:35.:02:46.

and is in training. It feels right. It's so easy for me because my

:02:47.:02:49.

brother and sister have told me what to expect and what not to expect. My

:02:50.:02:56.

grandad inspired me to do it because of the stories I've been told. There

:02:57.:03:00.

are amazing. That's what I want to be like. I want to pass it down to

:03:01.:03:09.

my kids. For these brothers serving their country is a proud tradition

:03:10.:03:13.

that despite the risks they want to continue.

:03:14.:03:14.

And there's a special 15-minute programme all about children from

:03:15.:03:17.

military families right here on CBBC this afternoon. That's front line

:03:18.:03:20.

Families, a Newsround special at 5.30pm.

:03:21.:03:23.

Next, he's the midfield maestro from Stamford Bridge and one of England's

:03:24.:03:26.

most capped footballers, but away from the pitch Frank Lampard likes

:03:27.:03:29.

scribbling down stories as much as he does dribbling past defenders.

:03:30.:03:33.

Not only has he written his own kids' books, but he's teamed up with

:03:34.:03:36.

the Premier League and National Literacy Trust to encourage more

:03:37.:03:39.

boys to start reading. He's been telling Nel his favourite children's

:03:40.:03:49.

books. I think all of Roald Dahl's books, I've been reading them again

:03:50.:03:53.

with my children and watching the films. They are six -- fantastic

:03:54.:04:03.

stories. I've read all kinds of books in the past three years. I

:04:04.:04:14.

think Horrid Henry is good. Lampard's club side Chelsea will be

:04:15.:04:16.

looking nervously over their shoulder as Man City sit just three

:04:17.:04:20.

points behind them in the Premier League, with two games in hand.

:04:21.:04:23.

That's after last night's 3-0 win over local rivals United. Edin Dzeko

:04:24.:04:26.

scored within the first minute of what became a one-sided contest at

:04:27.:04:30.

Old Trafford. He picked up another in the second half, before Yaya

:04:31.:04:33.

Toure sent the Blue half of Manchester wild in the dying

:04:34.:04:34.

seconds. But there was more bad news for

:04:35.:04:38.

Arsenal, who could only manage a draw away to Swansea. A Mathieu

:04:39.:04:41.

Flamini own goal left the final score 2-2. Arsene Wenger's side are

:04:42.:04:45.

fourth in the table, six points off top spot.

:04:46.:04:47.

And Everton are hot on the Gunners' heels after a slick 3-0 win away at

:04:48.:04:50.

Newcastle. England's Ross Barkley ran from within his own half to

:04:51.:04:54.

score the first goal for the Toffees, sending them fifth in the

:04:55.:04:58.

table. That's all from me.

:04:59.:05:02.
