this Saturday afternoon.

Today is Holocaust Memorial Day.

Events are being held around

the world to remember

the six million Jewish people

and millions of other

people who were killed

by the Nazis in the lead up

to and during World War II.

Most of the victims were killed

because they belonged to certain

racial or religious groups

which the Nazis wanted to wipe out.

Ricky has this report.

When World War II broke out

in 1939, Germany was run

by Adolf Hitler and the Nazis.

Hitler thought Jewish

people were inferior,

and planned ways to kill them.

Anti-Jewish laws were passed.

Jewish shops had

their windows smashed.

And Jewish people were forced

out of their homes.

The Nazis rounded up millions

of Jews, as well as disabled people,

gay people, and other groups Hitler

thought were inferior,

and sent them to prisons called

concentration camps.

Families were split up,

forced to do hard physical work,

and there was little food.

Millions of people were

deliberately killed there.

It is thought nearly seven

out of every ten Jews

from across Europe died.

Some children did manage

to escape Nazi Germany.

Ruth was one of those

who managed to escape.

Street by street, Jews were cleared.

And at any moment,

it was probably our turn.

We opened the door to a woman

from the British Embassy

who had braved the curfew.

She brought the entry visas

to Britain, train tickets

to get through Germany,

through Holland, and

a ferry to Ramsgate.

Heinz also managed to

escape the Holocaust.

There was nowhere to go.

No country wanted us.

Frank, my brother, was in Leeds.

And he tried very hard

to get me a training post.

And he finally succeeded,

and I came to Leeds.

We managed to get visas

for our parents, and they came -

thank God, because four days later,

war broke out.

Every year, people remember

those who lost their

lives in the Holocaust.

It helps teach us about these

terrible events, and makes sure

they are not forgotten

so that they can never happen again.

Now to football, and it's the fourth

round of the FA Cup this weekend.

Manchester United were

in action last night

against League 2 side Yovil Town.

The big talking point ahead

of the game was Alexis Sanchez's

debut, and he did not disappoint.

He put in a Man of the Match

performance and set up two goals

as United eventually won

the game 4-0.

There are 12 games on this

afternoon, and Leicester City

are currently 3-0 up

against Peterbourough.

Now, if you're planning a trip

to the cinema this weekend,

we've got some inspiration for you.

Earlier this week, the Oscar

nominations were announced.

Also called the Academy Awards,

they recognise the best

films of the year.

But, has your favourite

made the cut?

Here's Ricky with the details.

The Oscars - celebrating

the best of Hollywood.

One of the most popular categories

is the Best Animation Feature.

And the nominations are...

Coco, all about a 12-year-old

Mexican boy who dreams

of becoming a musician.

It's up against The Boss Baby.

Surprisingly, though,

no nomination for Despicable Me 3.

Disney's Beauty and the Beast

is in the running for two Oscars -

Best Production and Best Costume

Design.

Harry Styles' first film,

Dunkirk, has been nominated

for a massive eight awards.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi has

got four nominations,

including Best Visual Effects.

We'll find out who the winners

are on Sunday the 4th of March.

We have just 11 days

until the Winter Olympics

in PyeongChang get under way,

where some of the best athletes

will be showing off their skills

on the ice and snow.

But if you can't wait till

then, here's a taste

of something pretty special.

Check this out.

Flex, spens, treks,

and a lot of snow.

These amazing daredevils

are competing in the 2018 X Games,

which are taking place in Aspen

in the US.

Over the next four days,

some of the best freestyle skiers,

snowboarders, snowmobilers

and snowbikers will take

over Buttermilk Mountain

for the action sports competition.

The X Games started over 20 years

ago, in the summertime.

It wasn't until two years later,

in 1995, that a winter

competition was added,

giving men and women the chance

to do things like this...

This is awesome!

These guys are the business.

Bring on the Winter Olympics!

And they haven't been the only

ones enjoying the snow.

Giant panda Quin Quin could bear-ly

contain her exitement

at this year's snowfall.

She even discovered the perfect

slope for a bit of sledging.

Oh, go on then, one more time...

Who doesn't love a panda

causing panda-monium?!
