Hello, everyone.

0:00:110:00:13

It's Naz here with your Saturday afternoon's Newsround.

0:00:130:00:17

After our Olympic success, thousands of clubs across the UK

0:00:170:00:20

have opened their doors today to let people have a go at

0:00:200:00:23

new sports for free.

0:00:230:00:24

And this morning, ITV even turned off all its channels

0:00:240:00:26

for an hour in support!

0:00:260:00:30

The events are called "I Am Team GB" and organisers hope to use our

0:00:300:00:33

Olympic success to inspire everyone to do more sport.

0:00:330:00:35

And if the Olympics has got you in the mood to try something

0:00:380:00:43

new, you can head online and let us know what Olympic sport you'd

0:00:430:00:46

love to have a go at.

0:00:460:00:51

Staying with the Olympics, and here at Newsround we've had

0:00:510:00:53

lots of athletes popping in to visit us.

0:00:530:00:56

We were very lucky to grab a chat with gold medal winners Maddie,

0:00:560:00:59

Kate and Helen from the women's hockey team, and we got some

0:00:590:01:02

hockey players of our own to question them.

0:01:020:01:04

Turns, scores.

0:01:040:01:05

That is the golden goal.

0:01:050:01:06

Great Britain have won the Olympic gold medal.

0:01:060:01:15

This question is for Maddie.

0:01:150:01:17

When you were younger, did you always feel part of the team

0:01:170:01:20

because your training was so different?

0:01:200:01:21

I think so.

0:01:210:01:23

Your team-mates generally make a big effort to keep the goalie involved.

0:01:230:01:25

There are days when you spend time by yourself, you end up singing

0:01:250:01:28

to yourself or keeping yourself entertained but it is a team

0:01:280:01:33

effort and the goalie plays a big role in that.

0:01:330:01:36

When you were younger, did you play any other sports,

0:01:360:01:38

and if so, how did you choose hockey over them?

0:01:380:01:41

When I was really tiny, I did dancing and gymnastics,

0:01:410:01:43

both really badly.

0:01:430:01:44

Then I started playing netball and I swam a lot.

0:01:440:01:47

Me and my sister both went swimming.

0:01:470:01:48

When I went to secondary school, hockey was one of the sports

0:01:480:01:51

that they did, so I did hockey, athletics, netball, tennis.

0:01:510:01:54

But hockey, I loved it.

0:01:540:01:56

I love being part of a team and it was fun.

0:01:560:01:59

Do you have to prepare differently for GB than with

0:01:590:02:01

the England hockey team?

0:02:010:02:03

Essentially it is kind of the same thing.

0:02:030:02:06

We have a GB programme and it is made up of the English

0:02:060:02:09

players, Scottish players, we do not have any Welsh players

0:02:090:02:11

at the moment but we have done in the past and hopefully

0:02:110:02:14

will in the future.

0:02:140:02:17

We have different tournaments that is GB, like the Olympics,

0:02:170:02:20

but the World Cup is for England, and so our coach is able

0:02:200:02:24

to just select the English players and when it is GB,

0:02:240:02:26

he can select the English and Scottish players.

0:02:260:02:28

This question is for Maddie.

0:02:280:02:31

Why is your hockey stick so different to the others?

0:02:310:02:34

I use the same as these guys in normal play, but in

0:02:340:02:39

the penalties, I changed it to a super long 41 inches goalie

0:02:390:02:42

stick with a big head.

0:02:420:02:45

That allows me to get a bigger reach and try and tackle them.

0:02:450:02:48

One more question to ask, please will you sign

0:02:480:02:50

this shirt for us?

0:02:500:02:51

Absolutely.

0:02:510:02:56

Special church services are taking place near the towns affected

0:02:560:02:59

by the earthquake in Italy.

0:02:590:03:02

On Wednesday, a strong quake 65 miles north-east of Rome killed

0:03:020:03:06

more than 270 people, and thousands of homes

0:03:060:03:08

were destroyed.

0:03:080:03:13

Rescue teams are working really hard to help all those affected,

0:03:130:03:15

including the children who live there.

0:03:150:03:18

These pictures show buildings turned to rubble.

0:03:180:03:23

The worst affected places are the towns of Accumoli,

0:03:230:03:29

Amatrice and the village of Pescara del Tronto.

0:03:290:03:32

Police, firefighters and soldiers have been working

0:03:320:03:33

to try to find survivors.

0:03:330:03:37

Lots of children have lost their homes and even their schools.

0:03:370:03:41

The charity Save The Children has been helping those affected.

0:03:410:03:51

TRANSLATION: We have set up a special space for children.

0:03:520:03:54

It is a safe space, a protected space where the children can play,

0:03:540:03:57

draw, read and write fairytales.

0:03:570:03:58

We want to give back to these children some peace, some calm,

0:03:580:04:01

a place where they can feel safe again.

0:04:010:04:03

Strong aftershocks and tremors have followed the earthquake.

0:04:030:04:06

Aftershocks are a smaller earthquake that happen after the main

0:04:060:04:09

quake in the same area, causing even more damage

0:04:090:04:11

to buildings and roads.

0:04:110:04:19

But there are moments of hope, like this 10-year-old girl

0:04:190:04:21

being pulled to safety by rescuers.

0:04:210:04:26

In the village of Pescara del Tronto, which was built high

0:04:260:04:28

on a hillside, it was too difficult to get lifting equipment up here.

0:04:280:04:33

So rescuers used their hands and found this pet dog alive

0:04:330:04:35

under the rubble.

0:04:350:04:37

People in the towns and villages have now been left homeless,

0:04:370:04:40

and it is unsafe for people to go inside the buildings

0:04:400:04:42

which are still standing.

0:04:420:04:46

They have been sleeping in cars or in makeshift camps.

0:04:460:04:49

This earthquake is not the first to hit Italy.

0:04:490:04:51

The country has experienced quakes over the years.

0:04:510:04:57

But this was the most powerful since 1980, with a magnitude of 6.2.

0:04:570:05:04

If you're upset by anything you see in the news,

0:05:040:05:07

remember there's loads of advice on Newsround online.

0:05:070:05:13

On to footy, and Liverpool play Tottenham Hotspur in the lunchtime

0:05:130:05:15

match in the Premier League.

0:05:150:05:17

The game kicks off in about 15 minutes' time.

0:05:170:05:20

Spurs have four points from their opening two matches

0:05:200:05:22

after a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace and a 1-1 draw with Everton.

0:05:220:05:27

Liverpool have made a more up and down start, beating Arsenal

0:05:270:05:31

in a crazy 4-3 match then losing 2-0 against newly- promoted Burnley.

0:05:310:05:36

And finally, check this out!

0:05:360:05:40

Jetpack pilot Eric Scott shot out of the water and flew above a remote

0:05:400:05:43

lake in America while strapped to an 800-horsepower rocket.

0:05:430:05:46

Although jetpacks aren't anything new, Scott,

0:05:460:05:50

also known as the Rocketman, was performing the stunt

0:05:500:05:52

to highlight how the gadget's technology has changed

0:05:520:05:54

over the years.

0:05:540:05:55

That's all from me.

0:05:550:05:56

Newsround's back right here at 1:45.

0:05:560:05:57

See you then.
