We're talking about mental health problems.

:00:00.:00:13.

And the super hero vet helping animals walk again.

:00:14.:00:30.

First, we all feel angry, worried or sad at times.

:00:31.:00:33.

But when those feelings start affecting our daily lives,

:00:34.:00:38.

It's a sign of a mental health problem, and it's thought one in ten

:00:39.:00:43.

They're harder to spot than other health problems

:00:44.:00:48.

But many people find it really hard to talk about mental health.

:00:49.:00:54.

Newsround has made a special film about this that

:00:55.:00:57.

It's presented by Josh who wants us all to know how important

:00:58.:01:02.

We'll chat to him in a sec, but first, watch this.

:01:03.:01:08.

I'm Josh, I'm 14 and I love playing hockey.

:01:09.:01:13.

I'm just like you, except for one thing. I've got a mental health

:01:14.:01:21.

problem. Mental health is big news right now. Everyone's talking about

:01:22.:01:28.

it. Mental health Mental health. Mental Holly Wells... Newspapers,

:01:35.:01:38.

as you talk about it. So you would think it would be easy for me to

:01:39.:01:44.

talk about the problems. It's not. I didn't tell anyone how I was feeling

:01:45.:01:48.

for over a year and things got pretty bad. Now I want to find out

:01:49.:01:53.

why it's so hard to talk about mental health problems and what's

:01:54.:01:54.

being done to make it better. Josh is in the studio with us this

:01:55.:02:08.

morning. Good to finally meet you, Josh, I watched the team put your

:02:09.:02:11.

special together. Happy to be here? Cool. Good stuff. Why did you think

:02:12.:02:23.

it was important to talk about it? The moment I told my dad I felt

:02:24.:02:27.

immediately tonnes better because it's a massive weight taken off your

:02:28.:02:31.

shoulders. It's important to get the message out that the earlier you

:02:32.:02:34.

talk about it, the easier it is to deal with. You story is being turned

:02:35.:02:38.

into an animation. Shall we take a look? Have a look at this. When I

:02:39.:02:45.

was 11, I started to worry about bad things happening. The only thing

:02:46.:02:49.

that made me feel better was washing my hands. I'd wash them all the

:02:50.:02:57.

time. I didn't think anything was wrong. I just thought I was a bit

:02:58.:03:04.

odd. I found myself needing to write every three lines and certain

:03:05.:03:10.

numbers really freaked me out. People at school noticed and asked

:03:11.:03:14.

me what I was doing. I couldn't explain to them because I didn't

:03:15.:03:20.

understand what was happening to me. I felt embarrassed So you felt

:03:21.:03:25.

embarrassed. It took you a long time to talk to your dad in the first

:03:26.:03:29.

place and tell him what was up. Why did it take that long? I think it

:03:30.:03:35.

was because I didn't know what I had was OCD and I just thought that I

:03:36.:03:40.

was a bit odd and I was worried that if I told someone they didn't

:03:41.:03:45.

understand, I'd get shut down and would be on my own for ever. You

:03:46.:03:49.

worried about your mates as well didn't you, you struggled to tell

:03:50.:03:53.

one of your closest friends, how did she deal with it? She was brilliant.

:03:54.:03:57.

She was very caring but didn't change the way she behaved towards

:03:58.:04:01.

me, she wasn't overnice, she didn't avoid me, she kept everything the

:04:02.:04:06.

:04:10.:04:16.

people deal with their friends or relatives who suffer with a mental

:04:17.:04:20.

health problem? The important thing is, talk to them, but don't force it

:04:21.:04:24.

on them, don't go straight up and go "have you got a mental health

:04:25.:04:28.

problem", just talk to them if they are feeling anxious, sad or

:04:29.:04:33.

depressed. Talking is the best way to share how you feel. Really cool

:04:34.:04:36.

to meet you this morning, thank you so much for coming in. You are going

:04:37.:04:40.

to be busy today talking about this, so good luck with that. Thank you
