Hello! You have got two of us. Ore and Leah here for you in the | :00:20. | :00:25.
Newsround studio today. Stick around for this. The boy battered | :00:25. | :00:31.
by the tail of a whale. And we talk about the campaign to stop rain | :00:31. | :00:35.
forest materials being used in toy packaging. | :00:35. | :00:39.
First, to the news that will affect millions of you - the teachers' | :00:39. | :00:43.
strike. They have had the desperate last-minute talks to try to stop it, | :00:43. | :00:47.
but it looks like the strike will be going ahead. Not all teachers | :00:47. | :00:50.
are involved, but lots of schools are expected have to close for a | :00:50. | :00:58.
day later this week. I have been looking into it. | :00:58. | :01:03.
Thousands of classrooms across the country could be quiet this | :01:03. | :01:07.
Thursday. No teachers means no lessons and lots of you will have | :01:07. | :01:11.
the day off whether you want one or not. Lots of teachers are set to go | :01:12. | :01:16.
on strike. They are angry about changes the government is planning | :01:16. | :01:20.
to make to the amount of money they will get when they retire. Many say | :01:20. | :01:24.
they do not want to walk out of school but it is the only way of | :01:24. | :01:29.
getting the government to listen to them. I certainly do not want to go | :01:29. | :01:34.
on strike. It is our last-resort. The government are not listening to | :01:34. | :01:39.
us. Parents have different opinions. It will be a hassle for the parents | :01:39. | :01:45.
who have to work with some having to take a day off. It means I will | :01:45. | :01:50.
have to get childcare. I think the teachers have got a point. I feel | :01:51. | :01:55.
sympathy for them but it does not help me because I will not get paid | :01:55. | :01:59.
on Thursday either. The government has asked all strikers to | :01:59. | :02:06.
reconsider. I would say to you, the strikes are wrong, for you, for the | :02:06. | :02:11.
people you serve, for the good of the country. Some schools are | :02:11. | :02:15.
expected to stay open on Thursday and there may even be parents | :02:15. | :02:19.
covering in some classrooms. Unless the government and some teachers | :02:19. | :02:23.
come to an agreement soon, there are likely to be more strikes in | :02:23. | :02:26.
the future. Next, an animal charity is warning | :02:26. | :02:30.
people not to leave dogs and parked cars after the death of two police | :02:30. | :02:34.
dogs. An investigation has begun into the deaths of the dogs which | :02:34. | :02:38.
were left in a car at a police training centre in Kent. The Dogs | :02:38. | :02:41.
Trust charity has said nobody should leave their dog in a vehicle, | :02:41. | :02:44.
especially during a heatwave. Lions, tigers, sharks, even an | :02:44. | :02:49.
angry hippo - all animals you would not mess with. But on your list of | :02:49. | :02:52.
dangerous animals, you probably would not have a humpback whale. | :02:52. | :02:55.
Well, maybe it is time to rethink that list, because a boy in | :02:55. | :02:58.
Australia is recovering after a meeting with the whale that was | :02:58. | :03:08.
:03:08. | :03:08. | ||
little too close for comfort. 13-year-old Drew Hall is one lucky | :03:08. | :03:14.
boy. Nursing a broken bone in his shoulder, he is on the mend after a | :03:14. | :03:18.
run-in with one of the giants of the sea. Drew was out fishing with | :03:18. | :03:24.
his mum and dad. In this area of Australia, they are used to seeing | :03:24. | :03:28.
humpback whales but went one appeared next to Drew's boat, | :03:28. | :03:32.
disaster struck. The tail came down and hit everyone and smashed the | :03:32. | :03:38.
boat. The tail landed untrue and badly damaged the boat. The race | :03:38. | :03:43.
was on to get him to shore when an ambulance was waiting. Usually, | :03:43. | :03:47.
humpback whales are friendly towards humans. Experts do not | :03:47. | :03:52.
think it was intentional but the giant creature could have become | :03:52. | :03:56.
frightened and panicked. Humpback whales have huge tails which can | :03:56. | :04:00.
propel them out of the water. With some of them measuring the size of | :04:00. | :04:06.
a bus, this combination of size and power means getting on the wrong | :04:06. | :04:12.
side of a waving tail is a bad idea. For true, as soon as the bone heals, | :04:12. | :04:17.
all he wants to do is get back out and go fishing. | :04:17. | :04:20.
Next, to the toys that are damaging the environment, and no, that is | :04:20. | :04:25.
not the main story line for Toy Story 4! We have heard that toys | :04:25. | :04:28.
like Barbie and Lego could have paper packaging made from trees in | :04:28. | :04:32.
a rain forest that is home to endangered tigers and orang-utans. | :04:32. | :04:41.
Ricky has got the details. This is some of the last remaining | :04:41. | :04:48.
rainforest in Indonesia. It is also home to the critically endangered | :04:48. | :04:57.
Sumatran Tiger. Other endangered wildlife like elephants also live | :04:57. | :05:01.
here. But campaigners say these forests are being cleared by | :05:02. | :05:06.
loggers. It is claimed that the pulp from the wood is used in the | :05:06. | :05:10.
paper which wraps some of the toy is week by here back in the UK. | :05:10. | :05:15.
Greenpeace, which campaigns for the Environment, tested the packaging | :05:15. | :05:20.
for popular toys and say they found traces of wood fibres from | :05:20. | :05:25.
rainforest in Indonesia. We found what was coming from Indonesia's | :05:25. | :05:30.
rainforest and that was going to companies which was turning the | :05:30. | :05:33.
wood into paper and packaging and supplying that to some of the | :05:33. | :05:37.
world's most well known toy companies. These products are | :05:37. | :05:43.
shipped around the world and sold in our shops. The the way we have | :05:43. | :05:47.
proved their using rainforest in their packaging is by having them | :05:47. | :05:51.
tested by scientists and scientists found there were would species | :05:51. | :05:55.
coming from Indonesia's rainforests. Campaigners are putting pressure on | :05:55. | :06:00.
some of the toy companies out there. They want to make sure packaging | :06:00. | :06:04.
has made from recycled material and sourced in the right way. | :06:04. | :06:08.
We got in contact with all the manufacturers. Mattel, which makes | :06:08. | :06:11.
Barbie and also Lego have told us that they are looking at the paper | :06:11. | :06:15.
they use so that they do not harm the environment. Hasbro who make | :06:15. | :06:18.
Transformers and My Little Pony has said it will make sure that paper | :06:18. | :06:22.
from the rain forest is not used in its packaging. And Disney also told | :06:22. | :06:25.
us that looking after nature is their top priority. Newsround, once | :06:25. | :06:28.
again, get to the bottom of the story! | :06:28. | :06:31.
Now, just in case you missed it, here are some pictures from Blue | :06:31. | :06:35.
Peter's latest record attempt today. Hundreds of people broke the record | :06:35. | :06:39.
for the most hula-hoopers in one place. It was all to celebrate Blue | :06:39. | :06:42.
Peter's last show made here in London after more than 50 years. | :06:42. | :06:51.
Along with the rest of CBBC, it is moving to a new home in Salford. | :06:52. | :06:59.
More than 50 years is a long time. Yep, when they started TV was black | :06:59. | :07:02.
and white. Can you imagine everything on TV being black and | :07:02. | :07:07.
white? I think it's better now - but Blue Peter have done loads of | :07:07. | :07:10.
shows and had dozens of animals in their London studio over the years. | :07:10. | :07:15.
We couldn't resist quickly showing you these pictures. Have a look at | :07:15. | :07:18.
the misbehaving elephant who made a mess of the studio - a load of | :07:18. | :07:22.
unruly dogs. And some angry cats who weren't very pleased to see | :07:22. | :07:25.
each other. Let's finish with tennis and if | :07:25. | :07:28.
you're an Andy Murray fan, you decide whether this is good news or | :07:28. | :07:32.
bad. Because if he gets to the semi-final of Wimbledon, it does | :07:32. | :07:39.
look like he'll play world number one Rafael Nadal! The Spaniard | :07:39. | :07:45.
injured his foot yesterday put in his match against the American | :07:45. | :07:49.
Mardy Fish in doubt but he has had a scan and he is ready to play | :07:49. | :07:55. |
