What's up, Newsrounders? Hayley and Sonali here, with a great show to | :00:16. | :00:21.
round off your half-term week. Coming up tonight: the movie that | :00:21. | :00:27.
claims Shakespeare was a fraud. And Leah meets the creatures in a | :00:27. | :00:35.
But first, a royal question for you. Who's more important, girls or | :00:35. | :00:39.
boys? Well up until now, a law dating back hundreds of years has | :00:39. | :00:43.
said its boys - at least in terms of who inherits the throne. The | :00:43. | :00:46.
first son of a monarch was automatically made king, even if | :00:46. | :00:52.
they had an older sister. Lots of people think that's unfair. So | :00:52. | :00:55.
today, at a meeting of Commonwealth countries in Australia, the leaders | :00:55. | :00:58.
of all 16 countries the Queen is head of state of, including Britain | :00:58. | :01:02.
of course, agreed to change the law. So if Prince William and Kate have | :01:02. | :01:05.
kids and they have a baby girl first, she'll have equal right to | :01:05. | :01:08.
the throne, even if she has brothers. Prime Minister David | :01:08. | :01:16.
Cameron made the announcement. The idea that a younger son should | :01:16. | :01:19.
become monarch instead of an elder daughter simply because he's a man | :01:19. | :01:22.
is at odds with the modern countries that we've all become. | :01:22. | :01:25.
Put simply, if the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were to have a little | :01:25. | :01:35.
girl, that girl would one day be our queen. And if you want to know | :01:35. | :01:38.
more about this change in the law, head over to the Newsround website. | :01:38. | :01:41.
Now to Thailand, where the flood waters are still rising - fast. | :01:41. | :01:44.
Large parts of the capital Bangkok are now underwater. Many people are | :01:44. | :01:48.
fleeing their homes. We'll update you on this across the weekend on | :01:48. | :01:54.
Newsround on CBBC. And in Turkey, a dramatic rescue. | :01:54. | :01:57.
Five days after an earthquake hit the east of the country, a 13-year- | :01:57. | :02:01.
old boy has been found alive. This is the moment he was pulled out | :02:01. | :02:06.
from under the rubble. 187 people have been rescued so far, but more | :02:06. | :02:09.
than 500 have died. It comes after another rescue that's being called | :02:09. | :02:13.
a miracle. A two-week-old baby girl was found under the rubble along | :02:13. | :02:22.
with her mum. Here they are recovering in hospital. | :02:22. | :02:25.
Most of us have learnt about world- famous poet and playwright William | :02:25. | :02:27.
Shakespeare either through school or, of course, Horrible Histories. | :02:27. | :02:31.
But a new film out today has caused quite a scandal by suggesting | :02:31. | :02:35.
Shakespeare may be part of fake history. The movie Anonymous is | :02:35. | :02:38.
about how the biggest name in literature could have been someone | :02:38. | :02:41.
else, which has really angered some Shakespeare fans, as Joe's been | :02:41. | :02:50.
finding out. Romeo, Romeo, where for art thou, | :02:50. | :02:57.
Romeo?? To be or not to be. That is the question. | :02:57. | :03:00.
We've all heard the words, but do we know if William Shakespeare | :03:00. | :03:04.
really wrote them? I've come to his home town to find out. | :03:04. | :03:07.
For hundreds of years, Stratford- Upon-Avon has been the place to | :03:07. | :03:11.
visit for Shakespeare fans. But recently the town's been in uproar | :03:11. | :03:14.
because some people think the famous writer didn't actually write | :03:14. | :03:21.
his poems, plays and sonnets at all. And for big business this could be | :03:21. | :03:27.
a problem. The theory is that a simple countryman born here in | :03:27. | :03:30.
Stratford could never have produced such masterpieces. Some say they | :03:30. | :03:37.
were written by the Earl of Oxford instead. You are an actress here at | :03:37. | :03:40.
Shakespeare's birthplace and it is a popular tourist attraction. What | :03:40. | :03:43.
you making of the theory that Shakespeare did not write the | :03:43. | :03:47.
things we thought he did? obvious answer is that he did, and | :03:47. | :03:52.
here in Stratford, on Tuesday, we had the statues covered up and | :03:52. | :03:55.
bought the place names relating to Shakespeare covered to make people | :03:55. | :04:01.
think about what if it were not true. What makes you so sure? | :04:01. | :04:06.
have a lot of evidence existed and he is listed as one of the greatest | :04:06. | :04:14.
poets of the time and his sonnets were called Shakespeare's sonnets. | :04:14. | :04:19.
This isn't the first time people have questioned. Over 70 different | :04:19. | :04:25.
authors have been suggested as the writer over the years. But for | :04:25. | :04:29.
these people, William Shakespeare will be the greatest writer of all | :04:29. | :04:38.
time. Shakespeare was not just big in Stratford. Now if you've | :04:38. | :04:41.
wondering where Leah's been for the past few weeks, we can reveal all. | :04:41. | :04:44.
We've lent her out to the BBC's Autumnwatch programme. Leah's first | :04:44. | :04:47.
mission? To become the world's number one expert on eels. | :04:47. | :04:50.
Let's face it, they're not the prettiest animals, and they get | :04:50. | :04:54.
forgotten because they are deep down in our muddy rivers, but | :04:55. | :04:58.
European eels are in decline, so that is why I wanted to find out | :04:58. | :05:03.
more about them. This is the perfect opportunity to get close up | :05:04. | :05:09.
with the eels. Can you tell us what it sees? The case anyone was unsure | :05:09. | :05:15.
because they don't live like a fierce -- fish, they are fish. | :05:15. | :05:20.
Every autumn, adult eels leave our rivers and travel away to the | :05:20. | :05:23.
Sargasso Sea in the North Atlantic Ocean to spawn. From there, the | :05:23. | :05:28.
baby eels make an incredible 3,000 mile trip back to our rivers, where | :05:28. | :05:33.
they grow. It is clear they are amazing creatures, tough creatures, | :05:33. | :05:38.
but they're not having a good time at the moment. No, probably in the | :05:38. | :05:41.
past 30 years the number of juvenile eels we found returning to | :05:41. | :05:48.
fresh water has declined by anything up to 90 %. This means we | :05:48. | :05:55.
are worried about the population in fresh water. When Eyles first enter | :05:55. | :06:00.
the rivers as young elvers, they face their first big problem. What | :06:00. | :06:05.
is being done to help them? Peter has been doing -- looking at tiny | :06:05. | :06:10.
elvers to get them ready to go back to the wild. It is time to pull the | :06:10. | :06:17.
plug. Peter, are you ready? We are ready. There we go. The little eels | :06:17. | :06:21.
shoots down into the parking area to be boxed ready for the journey. | :06:21. | :06:26.
This should give them the best start in life. Peter's work will | :06:26. | :06:31.
hopefully increase the survival rate. Now we will release these | :06:31. | :06:41.
:06:41. | :06:44. | ||
I have beaten the All before. It was very nice. And you can see more | :06:44. | :06:47.
about what happens to those baby eels on Autumnwatch on BBC2 tonight | :06:47. | :06:49.
at 8.30pm. Finally, they're known as man's | :06:49. | :06:53.
best friend and one dog has definitely lived up to that title. | :06:53. | :06:56.
Monty the giant schnauzer was out for a walk when lightning struck | :06:56. | :06:59.
his owner Ian Thomas. The quick- thinking pooch leapt into action | :06:59. | :07:02.
and started licking his face, when he was knocked out by the bolt. | :07:02. | :07:05.
Monty then dragged him home because he couldn't walk. After four days | :07:05. | :07:09.
in hospital, Ian has now recovered and says Monty saved his life. Nice | :07:09. | :07:14. |
