Cameron, says he wants a peaceful end to the war in Afghanistan. He's

visiting troops in the country today and says it is important to involve

the terrorist group - the Taliban in on-goning negotiations about the

future. It comes as the most senior British soldier in Afghanistan says

peace could've been achieved a while many of you were even born. 11 years

of running battles with the Taliban for control of Afghanistan. The

terrorist group were forced out of power in 2002 but have continued to

fight back with bombings and roadside attacks. Violence has

flared again recently as Taliban forces look to take advantage of the

planned withdrawal of foreign troops over the next few years. And now

Britain's top soldier there says more could've been done to stop this

happening. General Nick Carter says Western forces like America and

Britain should've done a deal with the Taliban ten years ago. He says

they were weak and more likely to agree to a peace plan back in 2002.

Something that could've saved years of conflict and thousands of lives.

It comes as countries like the UK, America, France and Italy -

collectively called ISAF - try to sort out the hand-over of control

back to Afghans. They've spent the last few years training the Afghan

army to withstand Taliban attacks. And just last week they held off an

attack by the terrorists on the presidential palace. But on a visit

to Afghanistan today, British Prime Minister David Cameron said he was

still hopeful of involving the Taliban in talks about a peaceful

future. Some people say General Carter's comments are unfair as it's

easier to look back at what should have been done. To secure it for the

future we need the most capable Afghan government and we need a

political process so those people, if they are prepared to give up the

bullies, they can be part of a political process. Some people say
