Hey, everyone, Leah here with Monday's Newsround. | 0:00:11 | 0:00:14
If you've been out cycling this weekend and fancy hearing | 0:00:14 | 0:00:16
from a pro in the sport, then this is for you. | 0:00:16 | 0:00:19
Callum Skinner won a gold and a silver medal in this summer's | 0:00:19 | 0:00:23
Olympics and, now that he's back from Rio, three cycling fans went | 0:00:23 | 0:00:25
to meet him to find out what it's like being an Olympic cyclist. | 0:00:27 | 0:00:31
Who is going to claim the gold medal here in Rio? | 0:00:31 | 0:00:33
Up towards the line | 0:00:33 | 0:00:35
and the gold medal goes to Great Britain. | 0:00:35 | 0:00:37
Have you always wanted to be an Olympic track cyclist? | 0:00:37 | 0:00:39
Not really. | 0:00:39 | 0:00:41
I just kind of did lots of sport for fun. | 0:00:41 | 0:00:44
So I did pretty much everything I could have a go of, | 0:00:44 | 0:00:46
so I did fencing, badminton, rugby, kayaking even. | 0:00:46 | 0:00:49
The trick is just to find something you enjoy. | 0:00:49 | 0:00:52
I'm lucky enough that a hobby has turned into a career and it is going | 0:00:52 | 0:00:55
pretty well so far. | 0:00:55 | 0:00:57
Just find something you enjoy and if you love it | 0:00:57 | 0:01:00
it should go well. | 0:01:00 | 0:01:01
What is your favourite track event, keirin or sprint? | 0:01:01 | 0:01:03
The sprint. | 0:01:03 | 0:01:04
The keirin didn't go too well for me. | 0:01:04 | 0:01:07
I got disqualified for pulling a bit of a manoeuvre so | 0:01:07 | 0:01:10
sprint is definitely my favourite. | 0:01:10 | 0:01:12
What was your first cycling club? | 0:01:12 | 0:01:15
I started at a club called the Edinburgh Racers, | 0:01:15 | 0:01:17
which is based at a velodrome called Meadowbank. | 0:01:17 | 0:01:19
That used to be the only velodrome in the UK | 0:01:19 | 0:01:22
and it was outdoors so we couldn't use it in the winter. | 0:01:22 | 0:01:25
The first time I showed up was actually in autumn | 0:01:25 | 0:01:28
and they said the velodrome is closed for six months | 0:01:28 | 0:01:30
so come back later. | 0:01:30 | 0:01:31
Luckily, there are a lot of tracks now in the UK now you can | 0:01:31 | 0:01:34
have a go at. | 0:01:34 | 0:01:35
How many hours a week do you train for? | 0:01:35 | 0:01:38
We do maybe three full days a week and then the rest are half days. | 0:01:38 | 0:01:43
We don't actually do that much because | 0:01:43 | 0:01:46
the sprinters we only do efforts for a few seconds at a time | 0:01:46 | 0:01:49
or we are in the gym. | 0:01:49 | 0:01:52
So they are quite leisurely. | 0:01:52 | 0:01:59
Meet Gobi the dog. | 0:01:59 | 0:02:00
She surprised this marathon runner when she randomly started running | 0:02:00 | 0:02:03
with him and they became the best of friends. | 0:02:03 | 0:02:05
But there was a little twist in the tail. | 0:02:05 | 0:02:07
Here's Naz with more. | 0:02:07 | 0:02:08
You could say it was love at first stride. | 0:02:08 | 0:02:12
When Dion Leonard went to China | 0:02:12 | 0:02:16
to run a gruelling 150-mile marathon, little did he know | 0:02:16 | 0:02:19
he would make a friend. | 0:02:19 | 0:02:22
She ran half the race with me. | 0:02:22 | 0:02:26
We spent the whole week together and literally either by the side | 0:02:26 | 0:02:29
running or in the evening she was in my arms | 0:02:29 | 0:02:31
during the night, sleeping and eating with me. | 0:02:31 | 0:02:34
But there was a little twist in the tail. | 0:02:34 | 0:02:36
Dion wanted to bring Gobi the dog back home | 0:02:36 | 0:02:38
with him to Scotland but first it had to go into Chinese | 0:02:38 | 0:02:41
quarantine to make sure it was healthy enough to travel. | 0:02:41 | 0:02:44
But it escaped. | 0:02:44 | 0:02:47
As Dion loved Gobi so much, he went off to find her. | 0:02:47 | 0:02:50
First stop, where she was last seen - a busy city with lots of | 0:02:50 | 0:02:53
dogs, so it was tough. | 0:02:53 | 0:02:55
I've been out handing these since 6am and actually looking | 0:02:55 | 0:03:00
around the parks and local areas | 0:03:00 | 0:03:02
for the dogs and speaking to locals who actually think they have | 0:03:02 | 0:03:07
seen Gobi but unfortunately it isn't Gobi. | 0:03:07 | 0:03:09
But then it went viral on social media and before long Dion had some | 0:03:09 | 0:03:12
leads and Gobi was found. | 0:03:12 | 0:03:17
This lovely father and son had found her and we went out | 0:03:17 | 0:03:19
to see her. | 0:03:19 | 0:03:21
She ran across the land and basically ran straight into my arms. | 0:03:21 | 0:03:24
She was so excited to see me and I had just | 0:03:24 | 0:03:26
walked in the door, I hadn't said a word to her, | 0:03:26 | 0:03:29
so she knew it was me straightaway. | 0:03:29 | 0:03:31
So Gobi is now finally getting ready to move to Scotland. | 0:03:31 | 0:03:33
I think the first command Dion will be teaching her...stay! | 0:03:33 | 0:03:41
Now to the team of scientists who spent a year living in a dome | 0:03:41 | 0:03:45
in Hawaii without any fresh food, fresh air or privacy, | 0:03:45 | 0:03:47
and they managed to complete everything still smiling. | 0:03:47 | 0:03:52
It was all to find out what life might be like living on one | 0:03:52 | 0:03:55
of our solar systems most volatile planets - Mars. | 0:03:55 | 0:03:57
The good news is they now believe after surviving this experiment | 0:03:57 | 0:04:00
humans will be able to travel to the Red Planet | 0:04:00 | 0:04:02
in as little as three years. | 0:04:02 | 0:04:04
The UH research going on up here is just super vital when | 0:04:04 | 0:04:07
it comes to picking crews, figuring how | 0:04:07 | 0:04:09
people are going to work on different kinds of missions, | 0:04:09 | 0:04:12
sort of the human factors element of space travel, | 0:04:12 | 0:04:16
colonisation, whatever it is you're | 0:04:16 | 0:04:17
actually looking at. | 0:04:17 | 0:04:20
Formula 1 now, because Lewis Hamilton fought his way | 0:04:20 | 0:04:22
from the back row of the grid to finish third | 0:04:22 | 0:04:24
at the Belgian Grand Prix. | 0:04:24 | 0:04:26
His Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg started on pole and led | 0:04:26 | 0:04:29
to the finish, cutting Hamilton's championship lead to nine points. | 0:04:29 | 0:04:36
The new England manager Sam Allardyce has named his first | 0:04:36 | 0:04:38
squad since taking over from Roy Hodgson. | 0:04:38 | 0:04:42
Uncapped West Ham winger Michail Antonio has been | 0:04:42 | 0:04:44
given his first call-up. | 0:04:44 | 0:04:47
There's a return for Luke Shaw, Phil Jagielka, Danny Drinkwater | 0:04:47 | 0:04:50
and Theo Walcott to the England squad but Everton's Ross Barkley | 0:04:50 | 0:04:53
has NOT been selected. | 0:04:53 | 0:04:57
This is one of the UK's best-loved butterflies but the numbers of them | 0:04:57 | 0:05:00
seen in UK gardens this summer have gone done dramatically. | 0:05:00 | 0:05:04
It's thought that the decline of the small copper | 0:05:04 | 0:05:09
tortoiseshell butterfly is down to this year's cooler summer | 0:05:09 | 0:05:11
affecting the way the insects reproduce and feed. | 0:05:11 | 0:05:15
It is one of my favourite butterflies and I feel really sad | 0:05:15 | 0:05:18
that it has almost disappeared from the garden. | 0:05:18 | 0:05:20
We have seen just two this year and in previous years we | 0:05:20 | 0:05:23
used to see them...probably the most frequently seen butterfly because it | 0:05:23 | 0:05:26
comes out three times a year and so they are | 0:05:26 | 0:05:29
often around the place, or used to be, | 0:05:29 | 0:05:32
and now it is gone. | 0:05:32 | 0:05:34
If you're a Lego fan then you're going to love this. | 0:05:34 | 0:05:37
In Portugal, kids can get an up-close look at the country's | 0:05:37 | 0:05:39
largest Lego city. | 0:05:39 | 0:05:41
The exhibition is made up of medieval towns, | 0:05:41 | 0:05:44
film set recreations and locomotives. | 0:05:44 | 0:05:47
With approximately five million colourful pieces of Lego, | 0:05:47 | 0:05:49
it's been designed and built by one single collector. | 0:05:49 | 0:05:53
That's all from me. | 0:05:53 | 0:05:54
I'll be back for at 4:20pm. | 0:05:54 | 0:05:58 |
