Hi, I'm Hayley with the top stories this Wednesday morning.

0:00:060:00:08

Coming up in the next few minutes...

0:00:080:00:10

As Leicester City race to the top of the league,

0:00:100:00:13

they're influencing a trail behind them.

0:00:130:00:16

And the man who caught this gigantic cod.

0:00:160:00:23

This

0:00:230:00:23

This is

0:00:230:00:24

This is Newsround.

0:00:240:00:25

First this morning, thousands of families around the UK

0:00:280:00:32

are waiting to find out what will happen to their jobs

0:00:320:00:33

in towns that make steel.

0:00:350:00:37

It's because Tata, the biggest company that makes metal in the UK,

0:00:370:00:41

is going to sell its business.

0:00:410:00:46

The company has already announced lots of job losses but now says it

0:00:460:00:49

plans to sell its factories because they are not

0:00:490:00:51

making enough money.

0:00:510:00:52

Jenny has been looking into why it's so important.

0:00:550:00:57

Steel is the most widely used metal in the world.

0:00:570:01:00

It can be extremely strong and flexible.

0:01:000:01:01

It is used to make all kinds of things,

0:01:010:01:03

like buildings and bridges.

0:01:030:01:05

Planes, trains and cars all have parts made out of steel to help

0:01:050:01:08

you get around.

0:01:080:01:09

And you will find it all over your home and things

0:01:090:01:12

like washing machines, fridges and radiators.

0:01:120:01:17

British steel, especially from Sheffield, has long been

0:01:170:01:19

acknowledged as some of the best in the world.

0:01:190:01:21

The UK has a long history of making steel, dating all the way back

0:01:210:01:24

to the 1800s.

0:01:240:01:31

But over the last few decades, this has been changing.

0:01:310:01:33

Nowadays, it is China that leads the way, producing around half

0:01:330:01:36

of the world's steel.

0:01:360:01:37

However, it is making more steel than it actually needs,

0:01:370:01:39

selling the extra stuff cheaply all around the world.

0:01:390:01:41

This is a problem for steel plants in the UK.

0:01:410:01:45

They say that they are losing business because they can't match

0:01:450:01:52

the low prices of cheaper Chinese steel, forcing many UK factories

0:01:520:01:55

to shut down.

0:01:550:01:56

A steelworks in Redcar in the north-east of England closed

0:01:560:01:58

last year and now more than 1,000 people will be losing their jobs

0:01:580:02:01

around the UK, with most of them at the UK's biggest steel plant

0:02:010:02:04

in Port Talbot in Wales.

0:02:040:02:06

Now the Government is coming under pressure to help the plants

0:02:060:02:14

and the communities who need them for jobs.

0:02:140:02:15

The Government says it is working to help staff find new jobs

0:02:150:02:18

as quickly as possible.

0:02:180:02:19

You can find out more about what's happening in the UK steel industry

0:02:190:02:22

on the Newsround website.

0:02:220:02:24

The England coach, Roy Hodgson, described himself as "bitterly

0:02:240:02:26

disappointed" last night after England were beaten 2-1

0:02:260:02:34

by the Netherlands in the friendly at Wembley.

0:02:340:02:36

The visitors turned the game around despite England taking the lead

0:02:360:02:39

in the first half.

0:02:390:02:40

But even though he was on the losing side, it was good news for Leicester

0:02:400:02:43

player Jamie Vardy.

0:02:430:02:44

He scored his first international goal at Wembley

0:02:440:02:46

in last night's match.

0:02:460:02:48

And that's not all.

0:02:480:02:51

Vardy and his team-mates at Leicester city have been

0:02:510:02:53

inspiring these young girls to get involved in the beautiful game.

0:02:530:02:56

Here's Leah with more.

0:02:560:02:59

Mahrez, brilliant turn, Mahrez shoots, goal!

0:02:590:03:03

Leicester City Football Club have put in an astonishing performance

0:03:030:03:05

lately.

0:03:050:03:08

In just 12 months, they have stormed from the bottom

0:03:080:03:11

of the Premier League to prove themselves as potential

0:03:110:03:14

champions this season.

0:03:140:03:16

The team have put in such a successful performance over

0:03:160:03:18

the past year that it has encouraged these girls to get more

0:03:180:03:21

involved in football.

0:03:210:03:23

All the kids turning up to some of our sessions in Leicester City

0:03:230:03:27

kit, you know, I have been sort of outdone by Jamie Vardy

0:03:270:03:31

when asking girls, what would be your perfect session?

0:03:310:03:36

And they want him to come and coach.

0:03:360:03:38

So, you know, it has been absolutely massive.

0:03:380:03:40

Definitely.

0:03:400:03:41

I only started liking it this year.

0:03:410:03:43

Sometimes you're with your friends and you get to meet new people

0:03:430:03:45

sometimes as well.

0:03:450:03:46

They all work together and not one team-mate gets left out.

0:03:460:03:49

They always pass the ball to everybody before they score.

0:03:490:03:52

I like all the players and the like going to watch them

0:03:520:03:55

with my dad, so it is quite fun and I like it

0:03:550:03:58

when they score goals.

0:03:580:04:00

I like how it is quite energetic and it is quite fun.

0:04:000:04:03

Perhaps other football teams will follow Leicester City's lead

0:04:030:04:05

by inspiring more girls to be football stars of the future.

0:04:050:04:14

A fisherman is celebrating after landing the biggest cod ever

0:04:140:04:16

caught by a British angler.

0:04:160:04:17

Bert Williams caught the 93lb fish in the sea.

0:04:170:04:20

Bert told the BBC he thought he had caught a dolphin.

0:04:200:04:24

It took two people more than 25 minutes to land the fish off

0:04:240:04:27

Soroya in Norway.

0:04:270:04:31

Finally, to a pop tribute with a difference.

0:04:310:04:34

A huge fan of this guy, Micheal Jackson, has made something

0:04:340:04:37

a little bit unusual to remember him.

0:04:370:04:47

Check this out - the seven foot tall statue is made from rice crispies,

0:04:470:04:50

chocolate and icing.

0:04:500:04:51

It took five weeks and won a bronze medal at the Cake International Show

0:04:510:04:55

in Birmingham.

0:04:550:04:56

It will now be sold off for charity.

0:04:560:05:01

That's all from me, Newsround's back right here in about half an hour.
