Good morning, Ayshah here with your bank holiday Monday Newsround. | :00:00. | :00:00.
Stay tuned for all of this: The 16-year-old British BMX | :00:07. | :00:10.
superstar, and the wing suit pilot taking to the skies in China. | :00:11. | :00:24.
First to the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, where it's thought | :00:25. | :00:28.
as much as a third of the coral there has been destroyed. | :00:29. | :00:31.
It's known for being home to some of the world's most | :00:32. | :00:34.
Australian scientists say it's because of something called | :00:35. | :00:38.
This happens when the water is too warm and the coral weakens, | :00:39. | :00:46.
losing the colourful algae that provide oxygen and nutrients. | :00:47. | :00:49.
Let's take a look at some sport results. | :00:50. | :00:52.
First to Formula 1, and Lewis Hamilton is a very happy man. | :00:53. | :00:55.
He's won his first race of the season in Monaco, | :00:56. | :00:58.
beating his team-mate Nico Rosberg and cutting Rosberg's lead | :00:59. | :01:00.
in the championship to just 22 points. | :01:01. | :01:09.
And now to a sport we don't often hear about, the World BMX | :01:10. | :01:12.
Championships in Colombia, South America. | :01:13. | :01:13.
Teenager Bethany Shriever from Essex took part over the weekend. | :01:14. | :01:15.
She represented Great Britain at junior level in the competition | :01:16. | :01:18.
and earned herself a time trial silver medal. | :01:19. | :01:20.
We've been to meet the 16-year-old to find out more about her | :01:21. | :01:23.
My name's Bethany Shriever, and I'm a BMX racer for Team GB. | :01:24. | :01:42.
I got involved in the sport of BMX when I was eight years | :01:43. | :01:45.
One of his friends invited us down the track, and he gave me one | :01:46. | :01:50.
of these and one of these, and I fell in love. | :01:51. | :01:53.
BMX bikes are smaller and harder than most bikes. | :01:54. | :01:55.
It's so they can take everything we put them through. | :01:56. | :02:01.
They're made to be strong, because the track is really | :02:02. | :02:04.
There are lots of jumps on the track, made on a really | :02:05. | :02:11.
hard surface so that you can go really fast. | :02:12. | :02:13.
These bikes are for tracks like this, whereas mountain | :02:14. | :02:16.
bikes are made to go through puddles and mud. | :02:17. | :02:18.
This month I'm heading to Colombia to compete in the BMX | :02:19. | :02:20.
World Championships, representing my country. | :02:21. | :02:23.
There will be loads of people competing from all over the world, | :02:24. | :02:26.
but I'm the only girl competing for the UK in junior level. | :02:27. | :02:30.
If you want to give it a go, get down to your local track. | :02:31. | :02:33.
You don't have to be mad to do it, but it does help! | :02:34. | :02:41.
To something that's really, really old - | :02:42. | :02:42.
this fossilised skeleton of a massive sea reptile that lived | :02:43. | :02:45.
The ancient bones were discovered at a quarry near Peterborough, | :02:46. | :02:50.
and have been carefully put back together by scientists, who | :02:51. | :02:52.
This is a fossil of a plesiosaur, which is a reptile that lived | :02:53. | :03:01.
in the sea during the time of the dinosaurs. | :03:02. | :03:03.
It was a very unusual-looking animal, nothing like anything | :03:04. | :03:05.
It would have had a really long neck sticking out the front, | :03:06. | :03:10.
a sort of barrel-shaped body, four large flippers | :03:11. | :03:11.
shaped like wings almost, and a short tail at the back. | :03:12. | :03:22.
Scientists have come up with a pretty interesting way | :03:23. | :03:24.
The animals are an endangered species, but now it's hoped | :03:25. | :03:27.
koala-tracking dogs might be able to find the animal by | :03:28. | :03:30.
sniffing out their poo, or as they call it, scat. | :03:31. | :03:34.
This is Maya, and she's on the hunt for koalas. | :03:35. | :03:39.
The great thing with dogs as they can smell what we can't see. | :03:40. | :03:42.
Koala poo smells very much of eucalyptus, and so they can help | :03:43. | :03:45.
In many parts of Australia, their numbers are declining | :03:46. | :03:51.
because of habitat destruction, so researchers are trying to figure | :03:52. | :03:54.
out which are the most important areas to keep protected. | :03:55. | :03:56.
You need a lot of stamina, because you have to cover a lot | :03:57. | :04:02.
of ground and look under each tree for scats. | :04:03. | :04:07.
For Maya, that is not a problem, she is playing, and she is 20 times | :04:08. | :04:11.
And most importantly for conservation, she is 150% more | :04:12. | :04:17.
accurate, so that means she finding scats where humans are not. | :04:18. | :04:19.
For habitat protection, this is critical. | :04:20. | :04:24.
But even the best detectors need to keep their skills up | :04:25. | :04:27.
It's very simple, because we don't want to take her into the bush | :04:28. | :04:33.
and for her to start indicating on possum poo or Eastern grey poo. | :04:34. | :04:36.
We want to make sure that Maya knows what koala poo is, | :04:37. | :04:39.
and excludes any other marsupial poo. | :04:40. | :04:45.
If you think about it, dogs don't go to work for a salary. | :04:46. | :04:48.
They go to work and for them it is playing. | :04:49. | :04:50.
And on top of that, for this pup, tracking and playing fetch | :04:51. | :04:57.
A US wing-suit pilot has attempted to hit an apple-size target dangling | :04:58. | :05:08.
Jeb Corliss successfully did it, travelling at 120 miles per hour. | :05:09. | :05:15.
He has also jumped from the Eiffel Tower in Paris | :05:16. | :05:18.
and the Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur in the past. | :05:19. | :05:23.
Top Gear came back on telly last night. | :05:24. | :05:25.
New presenters Chris Evans and co-host Matt LeBlanc | :05:26. | :05:27.
took to roads in the US, Morocco and in the UK. | :05:28. | :05:30.
People have been talking about the new show | :05:31. | :05:32.
on social media, with some not liking it without the previous | :05:33. | :05:34.
But others enjoying the new presenters, | :05:35. | :05:39.
We want to know what you think about the new Top Gear. | :05:40. | :05:46. |
