Good morning, I'm Hayley and you're live with me | :00:07. | :00:08.
And how many birds are in our gardens? | :00:09. | :00:16.
First to the town of Port Talbot in South Wales. | :00:17. | :00:30.
It's home to the biggest steelworks in the country. | :00:31. | :00:32.
People there are worried because Tata Steel, which owns | :00:33. | :00:37.
the site, wants to sell it and workers could lose their jobs. | :00:38. | :00:42.
The company employs around 10,000 people at 14 sites in Britain. | :00:43. | :00:45.
It wants to get rid of them because they are losing money. | :00:46. | :00:49.
Ricky, what have people there told you? | :00:50. | :00:58.
Good morning from Port Talbot in south Wales, where the wait | :00:59. | :01:01.
continues for families who don't know what will happen | :01:02. | :01:07.
to the massive steelworks you can see behind me. | :01:08. | :01:08.
We know that Prime Minister David Cameron will hold a special meeting | :01:09. | :01:14.
this morning to discuss the future of the steel industry | :01:15. | :01:16.
It has been really busy here this morning and lots of trucks have been | :01:17. | :01:25.
coming into the factory. In this town, this factory has a | :01:26. | :01:27.
long-standing tradition of being here. Many people work here and many | :01:28. | :01:33.
children's parents work in the factory behind me. As we have been | :01:34. | :01:37.
finding out, people live next door to someone who works here, so I went | :01:38. | :01:41.
to find out what would happen if things change. | :01:42. | :01:43.
Wherever you are in Port Talbot, it is not hard to miss | :01:44. | :01:56.
You can see it from pretty much all over the town. | :01:57. | :02:09.
And kids have been telling me today that they will be pretty sad | :02:10. | :02:12.
Alfie and Lily, your dad works at the steelworks. | :02:13. | :02:15.
He has worked there for six years, hasn't he? | :02:16. | :02:17.
And what do you think would happen if it was to close? | :02:18. | :02:21.
Well, I would miss seeing the ships going in and out. | :02:22. | :02:24.
What is it like having a dad who works at the steelworks? | :02:25. | :02:27.
You have got the beach and then the mountains where I live, | :02:28. | :02:34.
which is like my back garden, so it is nice to explore different | :02:35. | :02:37.
And how much of a big deal is the steelworks for this town? | :02:38. | :02:41.
It is major because there are so many jobs there | :02:42. | :02:43.
and so many of my friends' parents work there. | :02:44. | :02:45.
And it means so much to them if they keep their jobs. | :02:46. | :02:52.
I know lots of people, especially loads of neighbours | :02:53. | :02:56.
It would affect them because they all have children. | :02:57. | :03:00.
So, if it closes, then they will all be out of work. | :03:01. | :03:03.
If it was to close, would it be quite sad? | :03:04. | :03:05.
Yes, it would be bad for the country and the economy. | :03:06. | :03:08.
Not just the community, but also some smaller businesses | :03:09. | :03:13.
Could you imagine Port Talbot without the factory? | :03:14. | :03:17.
Find out more about the steel industry in the UK on our website. | :03:18. | :03:32.
For now, it's back to the studio and Hayley with the rest | :03:33. | :03:35.
Next, despite a wet and windy winter, over half a million people | :03:36. | :03:44.
have been out in their gardens to take part in this year's | :03:45. | :03:47.
The Big Garden Bird Watch aims to find out which types of birds | :03:48. | :03:52.
are doing well and which need our help. | :03:53. | :04:03.
Over the course of the count, more than 8 million birds have been | :04:04. | :04:06.
counted and the top spot goes to the house | :04:07. | :04:08.
There was also good news for the long-tailed tit, | :04:09. | :04:11.
England beat the Black Caps by seven wickets to secure their place | :04:12. | :04:22.
Making it to the final completes a remarkable turnaround from last | :04:23. | :04:26.
year's World Cup, where England were knocked out | :04:27. | :04:27.
But England women were unable to win their semifinal, | :04:28. | :04:35.
falling to a five-run defeat by Australia earlier in the day. | :04:36. | :04:39.
Next, to a baby gorilla who didn't have the easiest start in life. | :04:40. | :04:42.
Afear's mum had problems giving birth to her, | :04:43. | :04:44.
so vets had to do an operation on mum to help. | :04:45. | :04:47.
Afear's mum is recovering but in the meantime keeper Lindsey | :04:48. | :04:50.
has taken her home so she can feed Afear through the night. | :04:51. | :04:53.
The little gorilla is now doing well and it's hoped her mum will be able | :04:54. | :04:58.
That's all for now but I'm back right here in about half an hour. | :04:59. | :05:02. |
