Hello and welcome to Newsround, I'm Nell. I'm Leah. Lotdz to get

:00:26.:00:29.

through tonight, including some of this.

:00:29.:00:33.

We find out just how close man came to not making it to the moon.

:00:33.:00:37.

And we tell you who's going where and just what goes on during a

:00:37.:00:41.

frantic last day of football's transfer window.

:00:41.:00:44.

Before all of that, to South Africa, where a group of miners have been

:00:44.:00:48.

charged with the murder of their work mates even though they were

:00:48.:00:54.

actually shot by police. 34 people were killed during violent protests

:00:54.:00:59.

over miners' pay last week. Under an old law, the miners have been

:00:59.:01:02.

blamed and it's causing outrage and the country's top politicians are

:01:02.:01:05.

asking for the decision to be reviewed. This time last week,

:01:05.:01:09.

people across South Africa gathered to mourn. It all started when

:01:09.:01:13.

groups of miners stopped working and started a demonstration. They

:01:14.:01:16.

felt they were not being paid enough for the dangerous job they

:01:16.:01:21.

did. But things got out of hand. Police say the miners charged at

:01:21.:01:27.

them, carrying knives and sticks. The police retaliated by using guns,

:01:27.:01:34.

shooting 34 of the miners dead. But now, things have taken another turn.

:01:34.:01:37.

270 protesters have been arrested, blames for the deaths of fellow

:01:37.:01:41.

workers and charged with murder, even though it was the police who

:01:41.:01:45.

fired the shots. There's been a strong react sthoun the arrests

:01:45.:01:48.

with South Africa's own Justice Minister questioning a decision to

:01:48.:01:52.

charge the protesters. On the streets, the decision's sparked

:01:52.:01:56.

even more anger from people demanding the miners be freed.

:01:56.:02:01.

These are people who were apparently involved in the same

:02:01.:02:04.

demonstration and trade disputes, but they didn't pull the trigger.

:02:04.:02:09.

The South African authorities are trying to shift the blame from the

:02:09.:02:13.

South African authorities themselves on to the protesters and

:02:13.:02:17.

the Trade Unionists. The people behind the arrests, the national

:02:17.:02:20.

prosecuting authority, say they're still going to investigate the

:02:20.:02:24.

police too. But their decision's shocked lots of people causing lots

:02:24.:02:27.

of tension in the country. The Government has demanded an

:02:27.:02:30.

explanation and they say they want to make sure everyone is listened

:02:30.:02:37.

to and treated fairly. Space has fascinated scientists for

:02:37.:02:40.

years and it all started with the original quest to reach the surface

:02:40.:02:45.

of the moon. Today, the first man to manage it is being remembered.

:02:45.:02:49.

Neil Armstrong died on Saturday aged 8 2 and his funeral will be

:02:49.:02:54.

held in his home town of Cincinnati today. So why are his achievements

:02:54.:02:59.

so special? Take a lack at this. He was the first man to ever set

:02:59.:03:05.

foot on the moon. An event watched live on TV by millions of people

:03:05.:03:13.

around the world. One small step for man. One giant

:03:13.:03:18.

step for mankind. Neil Armstrong became an international superstar

:03:18.:03:22.

on his return from Apollo 11 mission in 1969. His defining

:03:22.:03:26.

achievement came very close to not happening at all. Being the first

:03:26.:03:31.

person to land on the moon was pretty astonishing when you

:03:31.:03:34.

consider technology back then was much less advanced than today. The

:03:34.:03:38.

lunar craft they used had lest computer capacity than you would

:03:38.:03:42.

find in an average mobile phone today and even once that limited

:03:42.:03:47.

memory and battery power got them into orbit, Armstrong had to take

:03:47.:03:51.

over manual control of the craft to stop them crashing into a field of

:03:51.:03:56.

massive rocks. When they landed, they had just 17 seconds worth of

:03:56.:04:00.

fuel left. Neil Armstrong's historic journey paved the way for

:04:00.:04:10.
:04:10.:04:11.

other astronauts to travel to the moon. A man who followed in his

:04:11.:04:17.

footsteps spent hours on the surface. I put the tube in the

:04:17.:04:22.

sample box then it was ready to go home. It's something a handful of

:04:22.:04:25.

people have experienced and however many more make to it the moon now,

:04:25.:04:30.

today the world said goodbye to the only man who can claim to have got

:04:30.:04:33.

there first. Let's bring you the latest on the

:04:34.:04:37.

Paralympics now. It was the first day of action on the track as the

:04:37.:04:42.

Paralympic Stadium re-opened its doors and Aled Davies won Britain's

:04:42.:04:49.

first athletics medal with a bronze in shot put. McGlyn and Scott took

:04:49.:04:52.

silver behind Australia in the visually impaired cycling time

:04:52.:05:00.

trial. At the Aquatics Centre, the Brothers have made it through to

:05:00.:05:05.

the tonight's final of the 300 metres freestyle. Another gold for

:05:05.:05:09.

GB in the velodrome. Colborne triumphs to the individual pursuit,

:05:09.:05:14.

he broke his own world record. It adds to the silver he won yesterday.

:05:14.:05:18.

Some fantastic stuff there. So, it's been a busy day at the

:05:18.:05:23.

Paralympics and it's been just as busy for the fans inside the park

:05:23.:05:27.

too. We went to East London to soak up

:05:27.:05:31.

the party atmosphere. At previous Paralympic host cities,

:05:31.:05:35.

it's fair to say the Paralympics haven't exactly drawn in the crowds.

:05:35.:05:44.

I don't think you can say that about London!

:05:44.:05:48.

What is it like to be here at the Paralympics, sum up the atmosphere?

:05:48.:05:54.

It was absolutely awesome! It was fantastic! I really want to know,

:05:54.:06:03.

what is the atmosphere like in there? Loud. Big. Cool. It's just

:06:03.:06:08.

amazing to see them do it, you know. The signs may have changed but the

:06:08.:06:12.

atmosphere is the same and it's not just the British drawing in these

:06:12.:06:18.

mass you have crowds. Really into it because the things they have to

:06:18.:06:22.

go through. I think they work even harder than the Olympians so in

:06:22.:06:27.

some ways I think they kind of are better than them. It's phenomenal.

:06:27.:06:34.

It's just amazing how with their disabilities they can still perform

:06:34.:06:39.

in the times and records they get. It's just amazing. Today the

:06:39.:06:43.

athletics gets under way inside there, the Paralympic Stadium and

:06:43.:06:48.

if you thought Team GB's Olympic medal haul was impressive, just you

:06:48.:06:53.

wait. Our Olympians are set to do even better -- our paralympians.

:06:53.:06:57.

There's still so much going on in the world and it's going to get

:06:57.:07:01.

crazier tonight. It's the football transfer deadline day and clubs

:07:01.:07:04.

have until 11 tonight to sign the players they want, otherwise

:07:04.:07:11.

they'll have to wait until Jon sw January. Here to explain it all is

:07:11.:07:14.

David, thank you for joining us on the sofa. Let's talk about teals

:07:14.:07:19.

that have been done already? The biggest one so far today is

:07:19.:07:23.

Berbatov moving from Manchester United to Fulham. We think for a

:07:23.:07:28.

fee of about 3 to 5 million on a two-year contract, a great deal for

:07:28.:07:31.

Fulham. Fulham sold him to Manchester United for 30 million a

:07:31.:07:35.

couple of years ago. Charlie Adam's moved from Liverpool to Stoke for

:07:35.:07:40.

4 million. Very good midfield player. A lot of people know him.

:07:40.:07:43.

We've had Van der Vaart leaving Tottenham to go to Hamburg in

:07:43.:07:47.

Germany and Sinclair from Swansea to Manchester City. So a busy day

:07:47.:07:51.

already. What can we expect to happen until 11pm tonight, a lot

:07:51.:07:56.

more to expect I hope? It's going to get really busy tonight which is

:07:56.:08:03.

exciting for all of us. The main deals we are expecting are possibly

:08:03.:08:08.

Moutinio, a Portuguese midfield player maybe moving to Manchester

:08:08.:08:13.

City and then we've also got the possibility of Clint Dempsey,

:08:13.:08:16.

Fulham player, maybe going to Liverpool, maybe not, so we are not

:08:16.:08:21.

so sure yet. Very quickly, it's a crazy day. What happens behind-the-

:08:21.:08:25.

scenes? It's all going to go crazy because you have players thinking

:08:25.:08:29.

they are moving from one club to another, players, you know, in

:08:29.:08:32.

helicopters, driving up and down the motorway. They could be re-

:08:32.:08:36.

routed, they've got contracts to sign, it's a very busy time for

:08:36.:08:39.

everyone involved. Thank you so much. Thank you. Now,

:08:39.:08:46.

a bit more sports to finish... Kind of. How about a bit of pig racing?

:08:46.:08:51.
