Oh, hello! | 0:00:53 | 0:00:55
I'm looking for Salty's brush because her coat is in a bit of a tangle. | 0:00:55 | 0:01:00
I don't know where I put it. Where did you leave it, Salty? | 0:01:00 | 0:01:03
Come on, tell me where it is... Oh, there we are. | 0:01:03 | 0:01:06
Now, I must have put it there, I'm sorry. | 0:01:06 | 0:01:09
You come and sit down next to me. That's it, yes. | 0:01:09 | 0:01:13
Look at the state of you. Now, you sit down there. Sit down, beautiful. | 0:01:13 | 0:01:17
Look at that. Now, this isn't something you can rush, you know. | 0:01:17 | 0:01:21
You've got to be slow and steady and then we'll get the job done. | 0:01:21 | 0:01:26
That's a bit better. You look beautiful now, you really do. | 0:01:26 | 0:01:30
Good girl. Yes. | 0:01:30 | 0:01:32
I got myself in a few tangles over the years as well. | 0:01:32 | 0:01:36
But there was one particular time I remember. | 0:01:36 | 0:01:41
Good girl, you sit nicely and I'll tell you the story. | 0:01:41 | 0:01:46
I'll tell you the story as well. | 0:01:46 | 0:01:50
It all happened when I was a boy | 0:01:50 | 0:01:53
in a twinkly time long, long ago. | 0:01:53 | 0:01:56
I used to run down to play on the beach as often as I could, | 0:01:59 | 0:02:03
meeting up with my best friend Little Sailor Sue. | 0:02:03 | 0:02:08
One day I took my kite to the beach to show Sue. | 0:02:08 | 0:02:12
I'd made it myself with brown paper and string | 0:02:12 | 0:02:15
and I was very proud of it. | 0:02:15 | 0:02:18
We took it down to the shoreline to fly it. | 0:02:18 | 0:02:20
Well, it wasn't easy. | 0:02:20 | 0:02:22
I had to hold on tight to the string | 0:02:22 | 0:02:24
because the wind kept tugging at it greedily. | 0:02:24 | 0:02:28
"Sorry, wind!" I cried. "It's my kite, not yours." | 0:02:28 | 0:02:32
"I made it myself." | 0:02:32 | 0:02:34
Well, that made the wind a bit grumpy and it blew extra hard | 0:02:34 | 0:02:39
and whipped the kite out of my hand. | 0:02:39 | 0:02:42
We ran after it as it blew off towards the rock pools. | 0:02:43 | 0:02:47
It looked like it was going to land in one of them and get wet | 0:02:47 | 0:02:50
but Sue caught it just in time. | 0:02:50 | 0:02:53
When I looked at the string, | 0:02:53 | 0:02:54
it was all tangled up in the seaweed on the edge of one of the rock pools, | 0:02:54 | 0:02:59
so we knelt down and we tried to untangle it. | 0:02:59 | 0:03:02
As we gazed deep down into the glittery waters, | 0:03:02 | 0:03:06
a magical world appeared before our eyes. | 0:03:06 | 0:03:10
On this particular day in the rock pool, | 0:03:16 | 0:03:19
Sidney the Snail had been slowly inching along the sandy floor. | 0:03:19 | 0:03:24
"I love the blue of the pool, I do." | 0:03:24 | 0:03:28
"I love each rock and shell." | 0:03:28 | 0:03:31
"I love the frondy seaweed too | 0:03:31 | 0:03:36
"And the yellow sand as well." | 0:03:36 | 0:03:40
When Bertrum the Butterfish whizzed passed at such a speed | 0:03:40 | 0:03:44
he caused a little cloud of sand to whirl up and float down again. | 0:03:44 | 0:03:50
"I can't stop to chat," Bertrum said. "I have a very important job to do. | 0:03:50 | 0:03:54
"The seaweed is in a terrible mess and I must untangle it." | 0:03:54 | 0:03:58
Sidney looked at the seaweed and it was indeed in a terrible tangle. | 0:03:58 | 0:04:03
"Shall I help you? I like untangling things," Sidney offered. | 0:04:03 | 0:04:09
"No, thanks," said Bertrum. | 0:04:09 | 0:04:11
"I need to get in done quickly and everybody knows that a | 0:04:11 | 0:04:14
"slow snail like you can't help a fast fish like me." | 0:04:14 | 0:04:20
Then Bertrum shot off again. | 0:04:20 | 0:04:23
"Rush, rush, what a fuss," Sidney mumbled to himself. | 0:04:23 | 0:04:27
Meanwhile, high in the sky in the world up top | 0:04:29 | 0:04:33
someone else was rushing. | 0:04:33 | 0:04:36
It was Brenda the Stork. | 0:04:36 | 0:04:38
Yes, that's right, Salty, | 0:04:38 | 0:04:40
Brenda the Stork, a dear old friend of ours, isn't she? | 0:04:40 | 0:04:44
We've sometimes seen her on our fishing adventures. | 0:04:44 | 0:04:47
Anyway, Brenda was rushing to deliver a little pot of gold coins | 0:04:47 | 0:04:53
to the end of the rainbow before it disappeared. | 0:04:53 | 0:04:57
But as she rushed, the pot wobbled, | 0:04:57 | 0:05:00
sending the gold coins tumbling downwards into the rock pool below. | 0:05:00 | 0:05:06
They twirly-whirled through the water and scattered all over. | 0:05:06 | 0:05:11
One landed on the sandy floor, one landed on the mossy rocks, | 0:05:11 | 0:05:14
another fell into a little crevice, while another landed amongst | 0:05:14 | 0:05:19
Sally the Starfish's shell collection. | 0:05:19 | 0:05:22
There was even one that fell into the tangly seaweed. | 0:05:22 | 0:05:26
And Sidney saw all this with the wide-eyed wonder. | 0:05:26 | 0:05:31
But before he could look any closer, Buster the Crab appeared. | 0:05:31 | 0:05:35
"Emergency," Buster snapped, clacking his claws. "Everybody gather round." | 0:05:35 | 0:05:41
As soon as the rockpoolers heard Buster's call, they all appeared. | 0:05:41 | 0:05:45
Bertrum zoomed in, causing another little sand cloud. | 0:05:45 | 0:05:50
Sidney noticed that as the sand settled back down, | 0:05:50 | 0:05:55
it covered up the golden coins. | 0:05:55 | 0:05:57
"What's wrong, Buster, why is there an emergency?" Bertrum asked. | 0:05:57 | 0:06:01
"Brenda the Stork has dropped some precious golden coins | 0:06:01 | 0:06:05
"into our rock pool," said Buster. | 0:06:05 | 0:06:07
"She was delivering a pot of them to the rainbow's end." | 0:06:07 | 0:06:10
"Has anyone seen them?" BARKING | 0:06:10 | 0:06:12
But none of the rock poolers had seen the coins except Sidney. | 0:06:12 | 0:06:17
Sidney tried to tell his friends what he had seen | 0:06:17 | 0:06:20
but nobody would listen. | 0:06:20 | 0:06:23
"We'd better find them quickly," said Buster, | 0:06:23 | 0:06:25
"before there rainbow disappears." | 0:06:25 | 0:06:28
"I'm sure I can help," said Sidney the Snail eagerly, | 0:06:28 | 0:06:32
"because..." "No, you're too slow," | 0:06:32 | 0:06:34
Bertrum the Butterfish interrupted. | 0:06:34 | 0:06:37
"This is a job for a fast fish like me. | 0:06:37 | 0:06:41
"I was going to untangle the seaweed but, erm, | 0:06:41 | 0:06:44
"I'll have to do that later." | 0:06:44 | 0:06:46
"If we all help to find the coins, we'll get the job done quicker," | 0:06:46 | 0:06:50
Sally suggested. "All right," said Bertrum, | 0:06:50 | 0:06:53
"but I'll be in charge." | 0:06:53 | 0:06:55
"Let me know if you find anything." | 0:06:55 | 0:06:58
The rockpoolers went off to look for the golden coins. | 0:06:58 | 0:07:02
Sidney was the slowest. He inched his way along the sandy floor. | 0:07:02 | 0:07:08
"I'm sure I saw a coin land near here," he said to himself. | 0:07:09 | 0:07:15
Sweep, sweep, he gently brushed the sand with his feelers and, | 0:07:15 | 0:07:20
suddenly, he saw something glint. | 0:07:20 | 0:07:24
"Oh! I think I've found it," he said. | 0:07:24 | 0:07:28
BARKING | 0:07:28 | 0:07:29
Yes, Salty, yes, yes, he was a very clever sea snail. | 0:07:29 | 0:07:33
But Sheena the Shrimp had seen the coin glint too. | 0:07:33 | 0:07:38
And before Sidney could say anything, | 0:07:38 | 0:07:41
she'd plucked it up with her long antenna. "A coin! | 0:07:41 | 0:07:45
"I must show Bertrum," she chortled and off she bobbed. | 0:07:45 | 0:07:50
"I was the one who found it, really," Sidney mumbled to himself. | 0:07:50 | 0:07:55
Yes, I agree, poor Sidney, Salty. Yeah, that's right, yeah. | 0:07:55 | 0:07:59
Well, he inched his way over to the mossy rocks where | 0:07:59 | 0:08:04
he thought he'd seen another gold coin land earlier. | 0:08:04 | 0:08:08
So sweep, sweep, he gently brushed the moss with his feelers. | 0:08:08 | 0:08:13
Something glittered. "Oh, here's one," he said happily. | 0:08:13 | 0:08:19
BARKING | 0:08:19 | 0:08:20
That's right, Salty, looks like Sidney found one this time. | 0:08:20 | 0:08:25
Andrew the Anemone had seen the glitter of the golden coin too | 0:08:25 | 0:08:29
and before Sidney could say anything, | 0:08:29 | 0:08:32
he'd plucked it up with his tentacles and held it high, like a trophy. | 0:08:32 | 0:08:36
"Bertrum, where are you?!" he cried. "Look what I've found." | 0:08:36 | 0:08:40
WHINING Yes, Salty, yes. | 0:08:40 | 0:08:42
Poor Sidney. Yes, anyway. | 0:08:42 | 0:08:44
He inched his way towards Sally the Starfish's | 0:08:44 | 0:08:47
shell collection this time. | 0:08:47 | 0:08:49
"I'm sure I saw a coin land here," he said. | 0:08:49 | 0:08:53
And then he saw a twinkle amongst the periwinkles | 0:08:53 | 0:08:57
but Sally saw it too. | 0:08:57 | 0:08:59
"Shimmering shells," she cried, | 0:08:59 | 0:09:01
scooping up the coin with one of her arms. "I've found one!" | 0:09:01 | 0:09:05
WHINING Yes, I know, Salty, poor Sidney, eh? | 0:09:05 | 0:09:08
Whenever he found a golden coin, one of his friends grabbed it | 0:09:08 | 0:09:12
from underneath his nose. | 0:09:12 | 0:09:14
Soon, his friends had found nearly all the golden coins. | 0:09:14 | 0:09:19
They wanted to show them to Bertrum but they couldn't seem to find him. | 0:09:19 | 0:09:24
Just then they heard someone shouting from the seaweed. | 0:09:24 | 0:09:29
"Oh, ah, agggrgh! | 0:09:29 | 0:09:32
"Help!" | 0:09:32 | 0:09:34
The rockpoolers rushed over to see who it was. | 0:09:34 | 0:09:38
Ha-ha BARKING | 0:09:38 | 0:09:40
Well, would you believe it, it was Bertrum. | 0:09:40 | 0:09:44
He'd been rushing around so much he'd become tangled in the seaweed! | 0:09:44 | 0:09:48
Luckily, Sidney the Snail inched into action. | 0:09:48 | 0:09:53
"Keep very still, this is a job for a slow snail like me," | 0:09:53 | 0:09:58
"not a fast fish like you," he told Bertrum. | 0:09:58 | 0:10:03
Sidney took hold of the seaweed fronds and ever so patiently | 0:10:03 | 0:10:08
he started to untangle them. | 0:10:08 | 0:10:11
"I'm free," said Bertrum eventually. | 0:10:11 | 0:10:14
"You've saved me, Sidney." | 0:10:14 | 0:10:16
"And, look, you've untangled the seaweed as well." | 0:10:16 | 0:10:20
It was true. The seaweed looked lovely. | 0:10:20 | 0:10:25
Just then the last gold coin fell out of the seaweed | 0:10:25 | 0:10:30
and landed on the tip of Sidney's shell. | 0:10:30 | 0:10:34
"We've found all the coins now," said Sally. | 0:10:34 | 0:10:37
"So you have," said Bertrum, | 0:10:37 | 0:10:39
looking at the pile of coins his friends had found without him. | 0:10:39 | 0:10:43
"Let's get them back to Brenda the Stork," said Buster. | 0:10:43 | 0:10:47
"We need to be careful, we don't want to lose them again." | 0:10:47 | 0:10:50
"That sounds like a job for a super slow and steady snail, | 0:10:50 | 0:10:54
"like you, Sidney," said Bertrum, grinning. | 0:10:54 | 0:10:59
So Sidney balanced all the coins on the tip of his shell. | 0:10:59 | 0:11:04
Slowly and steadily he delivered them to the rock on top, back to Brenda. | 0:11:04 | 0:11:11
"Thank you, said Brenda. "You are a particularly super sea snail." | 0:11:11 | 0:11:18
And she flew off towards the rainbow. | 0:11:18 | 0:11:22
Nice work, Sidney. | 0:11:22 | 0:11:24
For the rest of the day, the rockpoolers played happily | 0:11:24 | 0:11:28
in the rock pool. | 0:11:28 | 0:11:30
Even Bertrum joined in because Sidney had untangled the seaweed for him. | 0:11:30 | 0:11:37
And I had untangled my kite string by then. | 0:11:37 | 0:11:40
So we headed back down the beach to fly it. | 0:11:40 | 0:11:44
The wind was still a bit wild, so I held on tightly to the string. | 0:11:44 | 0:11:49
Out at sea, guess what we saw? | 0:11:51 | 0:11:53
Can you guess? | 0:11:53 | 0:11:55
Yes, it was a rainbow. | 0:11:55 | 0:11:58
It really was a wonderful sight. | 0:11:58 | 0:12:01
Then we took turns to fly my kite as high as a rainbow | 0:12:01 | 0:12:07
until it was time to go home. | 0:12:07 | 0:12:10
And the tide started to come in and cover over the rock pool | 0:12:10 | 0:12:15
like a great seaweedy blanket. | 0:12:15 | 0:12:18
Come on, girl. | 0:12:29 | 0:12:31
So you see, Salty, it's good to be slow and steady sometimes. | 0:12:31 | 0:12:35
Especially when you don't want to get into a tangle | 0:12:35 | 0:12:38
and you're not in a tangle any more. You look beautiful, girl. | 0:12:38 | 0:12:43
Yes, all ready for a walk on the beach, are we? Good. | 0:12:43 | 0:12:46
So why don't you join us for some more Rockpool Tales next time? | 0:12:46 | 0:12:51
Goodbye. | 0:12:51 | 0:12:54
Come on, girl. | 0:12:54 | 0:12:55 |
