Come on, Salty. Let's have a look now.

0:01:370:01:41

Come on.

0:01:420:01:43

Oh, look, it's Emily. Ha!

0:01:430:01:45

Come on, Salty. We'll go and say hello.

0:01:450:01:49

BOING! Ooh!

0:01:510:01:53

-Ernie?

-Ladder emergency!

0:01:540:01:56

Ladder emergency!

0:01:560:01:59

Ernie, just put your feet down.

0:01:590:02:02

-Ah!

-I don't know why you insisted on

0:02:050:02:07

using that ladder in the first place, Ernie.

0:02:070:02:10

Any opportunity to use my equipment, Emily.

0:02:100:02:14

What were you up to anyway, Ernie?

0:02:140:02:16

Ernie's trying to squeeze my new sweets onto the shelves

0:02:160:02:19

but there's not much room.

0:02:190:02:22

Here, try and get this one on here.

0:02:230:02:27

-Whoa! Good catch, Emily!

-We'll never fit this lot up there.

0:02:280:02:32

It's too crowded. I think you're going to have to

0:02:320:02:36

-get rid of some of the jars, Emily.

-Oh, good idea, Ernie!

0:02:360:02:39

Let's take down the ones that don't have many sweets left in them

0:02:390:02:43

and put full ones on instead.

0:02:430:02:46

THEY LAUGH

0:02:550:02:58

-Done.

-Done.

-Done. What am I going to do with those?

0:02:580:03:02

You've got lemon chewies, orange fizzlers, lime sherbets.

0:03:020:03:05

You've got every colour of the rainbow.

0:03:050:03:08

I'll have to have a think.

0:03:080:03:10

Come on, Salty, we'll come back later. If we're lucky,

0:03:100:03:13

I might get an orange fizzler and you might get a dog biscuit.

0:03:130:03:17

-See you later, bye-bye!

-See you later, Jack.

0:03:170:03:20

-Emily, can I just have one?

-Just one.

0:03:200:03:24

There she is, the Rainbow.

0:03:350:03:37

What have you got for us today, me dear?

0:03:370:03:40

SHIP BLOWS HORN

0:03:400:03:42

Come on, Salty.

0:03:430:03:45

HE HUMS

0:03:450:03:47

Here we are.

0:03:470:03:49

There you go, Salty. Let's get comfy.

0:03:570:04:00

All that talk in the sweet shop about rainbows has got me

0:04:000:04:04

thinking about a rainbowy adventure

0:04:040:04:08

we had a long, long time ago.

0:04:080:04:10

Yeah.

0:04:100:04:12

Let me get comfortable and I'll tell you the story. Ah, yes, Salty.

0:04:120:04:16

This is going to get your tail twitching.

0:04:160:04:20

Once upon a twinkly time, the Rainbow set off from Staithes,

0:04:200:04:25

waved goodbye to Whitby and disappeared over the horizon.

0:04:250:04:31

It was one of those "sunny and rainy at the same time" days

0:04:310:04:35

and a huge rainbow curved across the sky.

0:04:350:04:39

So we sang a happy song.

0:04:390:04:42

# Just Salty Dog and me

0:04:420:04:45

# Upon the briny sea

0:04:450:04:47

# It's up with the anchor and off we go

0:04:470:04:50

# With the sky up above and the waves below

0:04:500:04:53

# We're a happy old pair with the wind in our hair

0:04:530:04:56

# Just Salty Dog and me. #

0:04:560:04:59

Just then, Thelma the dragon flew by.

0:04:590:05:03

"I'm extremely excited!" she cried.

0:05:030:05:06

"I can't wait to get my teeth into that delicious rainbow."

0:05:060:05:11

Now, I don't know what your favourite food is,

0:05:110:05:15

but Thelma the dragon likes to feast on rainbows.

0:05:150:05:18

Crunch, munch, crunch.

0:05:180:05:22

"Whoa! Slow down, Thelma!" I said.

0:05:220:05:24

"You know what happens when you eat too much rainbow."

0:05:240:05:28

But it was as too late.

0:05:280:05:30

Thelma had eaten nearly all of it.

0:05:300:05:33

And do you know what happens to dragons

0:05:330:05:36

if they eat too much rainbow?

0:05:360:05:38

Their wings won't work any more.

0:05:380:05:40

Thelma started to spiral downwards and she dropped into the sea

0:05:400:05:45

where she bobbed around like a scaly island.

0:05:450:05:49

"Oh, dear," said Thelma, with a bulging tum.

0:05:490:05:53

"I won't be able to fly for the rest of the day.

0:05:530:05:56

"My little dragon will be home from school later,

0:05:560:05:59

"I need to get back to Smoulder Island."

0:05:590:06:02

Now, Smoulder Island was a long way away.

0:06:020:06:06

"In that case, we'll just have to find a way to help you fly again,"

0:06:060:06:11

says I.

0:06:110:06:12

"But there is no way," said Thelma.

0:06:120:06:15

"Unless..."

0:06:150:06:17

Thelma explained that right in the middle of the swirling sea

0:06:170:06:22

is an island where the Noodle Oodle bird lives.

0:06:220:06:26

"She's incredibly kind and one of her magic feathers will make me

0:06:260:06:30

"fly straightaway," she said.

0:06:300:06:33

Now, Salty and I had heard of the Noodle Oodle bird.

0:06:330:06:38

We knew that she had a beautiful tail of magical, colourful feathers.

0:06:380:06:42

Well, there was no time to lose

0:06:420:06:44

so we set off at top speed heading south,

0:06:440:06:47

scudding along the waves, feeling the sea spray on our faces.

0:06:470:06:51

And then suddenly, up ahead I spied the whirling of the swirling sea.

0:06:510:06:57

The waves spun wildly like water round a giant plug hole.

0:06:570:07:02

"Giddy gumions, watch out for my bunions!" I cried,

0:07:020:07:06

as the wild, winding wind took us spinning upwards,

0:07:060:07:09

higher and higher, and then spinning downwards, lower and lower until...

0:07:090:07:14

Splash!

0:07:140:07:15

We landed in a little island cove.

0:07:150:07:18

We went ashore.

0:07:190:07:21

There was only one path amongst the fuzzy rainbow trees,

0:07:210:07:25

so we followed it.

0:07:250:07:28

The air was buzzing

0:07:280:07:30

and whirring with the wild calls of strange birds and busy insects.

0:07:300:07:35

And then suddenly, Salty heard something.

0:07:350:07:39

It was the soft Noodle Oodle call of the Noodle Oodle bird.

0:07:390:07:45

We followed the sound through the fuzzy trees

0:07:450:07:48

and found her sitting on a noodly nest.

0:07:480:07:52

"Hello, O glorious Noodle Oodle bird," I said.

0:07:520:07:56

"Our friend, Thelma the dragon, would very much like one

0:07:560:08:00

"of your colourful, magic feathers to help her fly again, please."

0:08:000:08:04

"Oh! Noodle-eedle-oooh!"

0:08:040:08:09

whispered the Noodle Oodle bird.

0:08:090:08:11

"I've been giving away my magic feathers for many, many days,

0:08:110:08:15

"but luckily there's one magic feather left."

0:08:150:08:19

We looked at the Noodle Oodle bird's tail and, sure enough,

0:08:190:08:22

there was just one lonely-looking red feather. All the rest were grey.

0:08:220:08:28

The Noodle Oodle bird said, "Take me to Thelma

0:08:280:08:32

"and she can have my last feather."

0:08:320:08:35

"You are a very kind bird," I said.

0:08:350:08:37

"I'm not looking forward to sailing that swirling sea again.

0:08:370:08:41

"Almost turned our whiskers curly," says I.

0:08:410:08:44

"Don't worry," said the Noodle Oodle bird.

0:08:440:08:47

"If we catch the right swirl, we can fly all the way."

0:08:470:08:51

So we jumped back on board the Rainbow

0:08:510:08:54

and we set off into the swirling sea, didn't we?

0:08:540:08:57

Yes, we did.

0:08:570:08:58

"Hold steady and sail into the next swirl,"

0:08:580:09:02

said the Noodle Oodle bird, and suddenly there was

0:09:020:09:05

a huge swirl right before us and we sailed into it and - whoosh!

0:09:050:09:11

We twirled up and up and up so high that the fluffety clouds were

0:09:110:09:15

all around us and then we floated gently downwards.

0:09:150:09:19

"There's Thelma!" Salty woofed.

0:09:190:09:21

And we landed with a splish gently beside her.

0:09:210:09:26

"Thank goodness you've come," said Thelma.

0:09:260:09:29

"I must get back for my little dragon."

0:09:290:09:31

"I'll help you," said the Noodle Oodle bird kindly.

0:09:310:09:36

"Pluck the feather from my tail."

0:09:360:09:39

And the Noodle Oodle bird offered Thelma her lonely tail feather.

0:09:390:09:44

But it was gone.

0:09:440:09:46

"Oh, dear!" Salty gasped.

0:09:460:09:49

"It must have got lost in the swirling sea," I said.

0:09:490:09:53

"Oh, I'm sorry," sighed the Noodle Oodle bird.

0:09:530:09:56

"I'm afraid I need rainbow magic to make my feathers colourful.

0:09:560:10:02

Thelma sighed. And a little puff of smoke

0:10:020:10:07

escaped from her nostrils.

0:10:070:10:09

It was colourful rainbow smoke

0:10:090:10:12

and looked magical.

0:10:120:10:15

Salty's whiskers starting whiffling.

0:10:150:10:18

She was having one of her bright ideas.

0:10:180:10:22

"Breathe out lots of smoke, Thelma," she woofed.

0:10:220:10:26

So, pfff!

0:10:260:10:28

Thelma puffed and out blew beautiful rainbow smoke.

0:10:280:10:33

It curled and it twirled upwards and downwards

0:10:330:10:36

and all around the Noodle Oodle bird

0:10:360:10:39

and when it cleared, well, ha!

0:10:390:10:41

You'll never believe it.

0:10:410:10:43

The Noodle Oodle bird's tail was a fountain

0:10:430:10:47

of colourful, magical feathers.

0:10:470:10:49

-YODELLING:

-"Noodle-oodle-eedle-ooh!

0:10:490:10:52

"You've given me magic feathers!" cried the Noodle Oodle bird.

0:10:520:10:56

"Thank you, Thelma! I can help many people now!"

0:10:560:11:00

Thelma, ha! She looked very pleased with herself

0:11:000:11:03

and what's more, she started to beat her wings

0:11:030:11:07

and she began to rise up into the sky.

0:11:070:11:10

She didn't need the magic feather after all,

0:11:100:11:14

because breathing out the rainbow smoke

0:11:140:11:17

had made her tummy feel lighter again.

0:11:170:11:20

"I'm off to Smoulder Island to my little dragons", she roared.

0:11:200:11:24

"Thank you!"

0:11:240:11:26

"I must fly too! But I will always save a magic feather for youuu!"

0:11:260:11:32

the Noodle Oodle bird told us.

0:11:320:11:34

Ha! And before we knew it,

0:11:340:11:36

she had gone in a flurry of rainbow tail feathers.

0:11:360:11:41

"Well, Salty", I said,

0:11:410:11:43

as we set sail towards the horizon,

0:11:430:11:46

"we've had oodles and noodles of excitement today!"

0:11:460:11:51

And we headed off to Staithes and home.

0:11:510:11:55

And don't forget, if you see the Noodle Oodle bird,

0:11:550:11:59

don't forget, just say hello, right?

0:11:590:12:01

Good.

BOAT TOOTS

0:12:040:12:06

Did you like that story, Salty?

0:12:110:12:13

All true, of course.

0:12:130:12:14

Mind you, my stories always are.

0:12:140:12:17

Oh, look!

0:12:190:12:20

Come on, girl.

0:12:240:12:25

JACK HUMS TO HIMSELF

0:12:300:12:32

There we are, come on. We're still tacking.

0:12:370:12:40

Hello, Emily!

0:12:400:12:42

Hello, Jack!

0:12:420:12:44

Did you manage to solve your problem about what to do

0:12:440:12:48

with all those leftover sweeties?

0:12:480:12:50

I certainly did!

0:12:500:12:51

Here, look, I've saved something for you.

0:12:510:12:55

It's my new sweet selection range.

0:12:550:12:58

It's called Rainbow Mix!

0:12:580:13:01

I put all the leftover sweets together

0:13:010:13:04

and they're all the different colours of the rainbow!

0:13:040:13:08

Thank you! I must say, they look delicious!

0:13:080:13:11

SALTY BARKS

0:13:110:13:13

It's all right, Salty. I've got some...

0:13:130:13:16

rainbow dog biscuits for you!

0:13:160:13:20

There you go, Salty. Aren't we a lucky pair?

0:13:200:13:23

We'll save these for a little treat after supper. Thank you.

0:13:230:13:27

-I'll see you soon, Em. Thanks again.

-Bye, you two!

-Come on, then.

0:13:270:13:31

Well, Salty, that's it for today.

0:13:370:13:39

We'll see all our friends again next time.

0:13:390:13:42

Oh...

0:13:430:13:44

and we'll see you next time as well.

0:13:440:13:47

Bye-bye!

0:13:470:13:48

Come on, girl.
