Alexa's!

Alexa is four years old.

She lives with her dad,

and little brother, Archie, who is three,

in a town near a river.

I wonder what they're up to today.

Alexa is going on a river walk with Dad and younger brother Archie.

-What kind of things are we looking out for?

-Grass.

-Twigs.

-Mm-hm.

And petals.

Petals? I wonder what they're for.

Is it white broccoli, Dad?

White fluffy broccoli?

It doesn't look very tasty!

-I'll put that in there.

-Yeah? Is that enough?

-It's enough.

-Carry on.

I've found some leaves.

Alexa's filling up her basket...

with the help of Archie.

I did it!

-Daddy, can you hold this?

-Yes, of course I can.

Oh, Alexa's spotted something.

Look at that!

It's a long rowing boat.

And it's heading to a lock.

A lock.

Look at the gate closing.

In a minute, when the water's high enough,

they'll open the gate at the other end and row out.

-What's the magic word, Alexa?

-Open sesame!

Abracadabra, open the gates!

Come on, rowers!

Alexa's magic has done the trick.

The boats are off.

-Bye-bye!

What a great river walk. And Alexa has a basket full of nature.

Now, let's go home.

Alexa's back at home with all the things she's collected.

-We're ready!

-You're ready? What do we need then?

-Paint.

-Paper.

Paper and paint.

She's making a nature picture. Great idea!

I just stick things on it.

I also found some rosemary and lavender in the garden.

I've got green.

Archie soon turns his white paper green.

Oh, I think I'll have this crocus.

I need to stick the flower down.

-Stick the crocus on.

-Mm-hm.

And, Daddy, I'm doing a purple background as well.

I need green.

Alexa covers her paper with lots of colour.

-Mmm!

-Rosemary.

Rosemary is a herb used in cooking.

It's good for making pictures.

Archie's finished his picture.

Alexa's still going.

This is the grass. This is the river.

These are the clouds.

I'm doing blue clouds.

PAINT SQUIRTS

-Daddy, that made a silly sound.

-It did.

With no space left on the paper, Alexa paints her hands.

SHE GIGGLES

-Daddy, it looks like I have gloves on.

-Purple gloves.

-Daddy, shake your hand.

-OK, friends?

Urgh!

I think that's a really good picture you've done there.

We can leave it to dry on the table.

What a lovely nature picture.

Alexa and Dad have opened a pretend nail and hair salon.

Alexa wants Dad to do her nails first.

The sparkly one.

Is it a bit tickly?

Yes!

-Not my nails.

-Not on your nails?

-No.

-Oh, look, that's a good one.

That's got loads of glitter on it.

It's so cool.

OK, so now we need to let it dry.

Nails done, Alexa wants to play at being a hairdresser.

-We need tangle tamer in.

-Mm-hm.

Because it doesn't work with just a hairbrush.

OK.

A quick spray, and Dad's hair will be easier to brush.

-Oh, I got some on your shirt.

-It's OK.

-Can you smell it?

-HE SNIFFS

-It smells like strawberries.

-Yes.

And some over here.

Pretty clips will keep Dad's hair in place.

Now you can go and look in the mirror.

-Your hair looks good.

Hair and nails done, Alexa wants to look at her seashell collection.

-I'm so sad this one broke.

-Me too.

This was my prettiest one, but it broke.

-Do you want to try and put some nail varnish on that to fix it?

-Um...

-Maybe we can stick it back together.

-May... Maybe. Maybe...

Maybe it will work.

Is nail varnish sticky enough?

-Shall I try and stick it together?

-Yep.

There we go. Why don't you pop a bit more on the top?

-Maybe it won't stick.

-It's not very sticky, is it?

But it does look beautiful, now it's covered in glitter.

-Maybe we can just leave it apart.

-Yeah? Do you want to leave it apart?

-Yeah.

-It's very pretty now.

-Can you hold this?

-Mm-hm.

Decorating each half is a much better idea.

Maybe this nail varnish will make the sea.

Alexa has made this shell even prettier.

That's a really beautiful shell.

-Is it magic?

-Yes.

-What kind of magic has it got?

-Glitter.

-Glitter magic?

-Yes.

-Did you think there's a fairy that lives inside?

-Oh, yeah.

Maybe a mermaid.

-Or a seahorse.

Yeah.

-He said yes.

It's been a busy day, and Alexa is feeling hungry.

She's helping make pizza for the family.

-Well done.

-We don't need to use our spoons.

-You can use your hands.

Who needs spoons?! It's much more fun to mix with hands.

And squish!

-Squidge it and mix it.

-Arghh!

-My hands are sticky.

-They are super sticky.

It smells like porridge.

It does!

Alexa's already had painty hands. Now she's got pizza hands!

Look at my hands.

They're all sticky.

Pizza-y hands.

Pizza, pizza, pizza-y hands.

Archie? Let's make it really messy and big.

-That's it.

-Throw it down again.

Wow!

The dough is rolled into a pizza shape.

-Just squish.

-Slide it onto the tray.

-I broke it!

It's all right, I'll help you. There we go.

There.

Then it's into the oven.

We just need to let that rise for a couple of minutes,

-then we can put our decorations on.

-Yeah!

A quick bake and it's time to put some tasty toppings on.

-What do we need first?

-Tomato sauce.

Alexa spreads the sauce so it covers the base.

And on the edges.

Tomato, yum.

It looks so yummy.

-That's it.

-Now, cheese.

Take a little bit and then sprinkle it on.

Finally, lots of pineapple.

-I want to eat this bit.

-Oh!

But only some for the pizza.

-Is it ready?

-Yes!

-Great.

The pizza goes back into the oven,

and it won't be long before they can eat it.

Something smells good.

It looks tasty.

Once the pizza is cool, it's time to eat.

-Look at this!

-It looks yummy!

-Who made this pizza?

-Us!

Here you go.

-Are you ready?

-Yep!

-Gosh, look at that.

-That looks fantastic. What do you think?

-Mmm!

-Yum.

-Good.

-Alexa, which is your favourite bit of pizza?

-Um...

The tomato sauce, and the cheese, and the pineapple,

and the chicken on the stick.

Alexa likes all of it.

-Mmm!

-Daddy? I think this is the best pizza we ever made.

-Do you know what? I think you're right.

-Yes!
