Today, Maisie McGarvey joins the Prank Patrol.

Her mission?

To get her mate Jak to believe he's had a bad luck spell cast on him.

But can he reverse the jinx?

Meet Maisie McGarvey, our latest prankster,

who is 12 and lives in Fleetwood.

Her favourite pastimes are archery, weightlifting,

horse riding, dodgeball and basketball. Phew!

She loves to chat with friends on the internet

and says her biggest hero is Ade Adepitan.

SMACK!

-Hiya, Maisie.

-Hiya.

-Who are we pranking?

-My best mate, Jak.

Best mate Jak. Why him?

Because he's always pranking his dad so I need to pay back.

You're gonna prank Jak back on behalf of his dad

-and on behalf of yourself?

-Yeah.

From what you've told me, he sounds like a real prankster.

Let's take a look at him in action, find out a bit more about him,

and then we'll talk about his prank. Here he is.

Jak is one of Maisie's closest friends

and is six months older than her.

They've known each other forever.

Jak likes football, golf and computer games.

He gets all his pranking expertise from his dad,

who is also an accomplished prankster.

Maisie's mum describes Jak as a wind-up merchant

and says the last person he would expect to prank him would be Maisie.

GIGGLING

I have never seen a more prime candidate for pranking.

We're gonna get him, we're gonna get him good.

-Any ideas for the prank?

-Well, he likes games so we could do like

one big game thing?

-Just one big game plan?

-Yeah.

OK, so how about if we do...

if we get him into a massive room where he feels comfortable,

and we get him into an amusement arcade or something like that?

-So he thinks he's just gonna go for a play.

-Yeah.

Then, in the corner, we have a scary game that he hasn't seen before.

-That'd be dead good.

-It can be something like...

You know, the ones in fairgrounds,

-you see them in old movies.

-Yeah.

They have a turny head. Really weird head... What are they called?

-Fortune teller?

-That's the one!

You put money in and a card comes out with a fortune on it.

But instead of it being a computerised one,

maybe it's not a machine - there's a person in there.

I could do that. I'd like to get dressed up.

-SHE LAUGHS

-I could do that, get make-up on,

pretend to be a fortune teller, and when he puts his money in,

I'll give him a card, but it's a jinx card.

And on it, it will say, "Your luck is about to change."

He'll turn around, and everything will go wrong.

-There'll be things falling over, machines will blow up...

-Yeah.

-Sound good?

-Yeah.

-First thing we need to do is get a glass case made.

I know just the person who can sort that out - Ninjas!

-What does that say?

-Barney smells.

-Did you write that?

-No.

-Ninjas.

-GIGGLING

The blueprints for Maisie's prank is:

Me, made up to look like an antique fortune teller,

answering any questions Jak asks me

before issuing a jinx card.

Which, thanks to the Ninjas, has some very explosive consequences,

which should add up to Jak believing he has been well and truly cursed

and, of course, pranked.

-Wow!

-Pretty awesome. This is where the props are made for your prank

and where we do the research, which is quite important today.

Cos we have a fortune teller, but we don't know what he looked like.

So I've got an expert on 20th century games in.

-Should we meet him?

-Hello.

We are creating a fairground attraction.

We need a fortune teller. So we need your help. Maisie - ask away.

-What did they use to look like?

-Um...

Fortune teller machines used to be oblong, about 6ft 6in in height,

-so they were pretty tall.

-They're huge!

-Absolutely huge.

-Were they scary?

-Very scary.

That'll be me in the machine, with the costume, the beard, the eyes.

-You'll be scarier...

-I'm scarier than them now. Pretty scary.

Well, you don't scare me, big boy!

-OK, anything else?

-How many types were there?

There were at least 56 types of these fortune teller machines.

-In fact, I've done a little bit of research for you...

-Ah, brilliant!

..which I'm showing you, just so you can get an idea.

-This is the Marina girl...

-OK.

-Yeah.

-The next one is the Turk's head...

-That's the one.

-One of the most famous.

-That's the one we were thinking about.

-And with a crystal ball.

-OK.

-Finally, this is the Neptune figure.

-Oh, yes.

-With the long beard.

All the material is carefully crafted.

Very effective. There you go, Maisie.

Let's talk about the design, Steve is head of the design department.

-So Maisie - tell him what you need.

-We need a fortune teller.

-Machine?

-Yeah.

-Fantastic. What did Jonathan say?

-This is his research. We've picked three, haven't we?

-Yeah.

The Gypsy one... One he said was quite famous was the Turkish guy.

There's another one, which is the same theme. What do you think?

There's some good things we can use.

Initially, we build a nice, solid oak frame to it,

some fancy moulding down the side of it, gold-leaf it,

age it down, stain it...

-Maybe, Maisie, you could give us a hand?

-Yeah.

-OK.

And once you've built that, we need to get Daz to make me up

-to look like this.

-Don't think so.

You don't think so? Why not? I think that's... Oh!

Ninjas! They keep shuffling my pictures around!

I'll leave that there for now. No, I meant this.

Recipe for a Prank!

Funny Food.

-BOTTLE FARTS

-Some food can be entertaining.

-THEY LAUGH

-To some people.

You can make it fun for everyone with today's recipe.

Just get yourself a plastic ketchup bottle,

some diet cola and a mint.

Fill your ketchup bottle almost to the top with the cola,

and tape a mint to the inside of the lid.

Make sure it doesn't quite touch the cola.

When it does, it'll help the cola foam up big time.

Then, leave your pranked ketchup bottle

somewhere where it'll go to good use.

-Yeah.

-First, we need to get a face cast of you, Barney.

-OK.

Then me and Maisie can start sculpting over it in clay

until we get the design and take it from there.

-And you two decide what sort of face you go for?

-Yeah.

-So first thing is face cast.

-Yep. Face cast first.

-Let's go.

Darren is an expert, so don't try this at home.

All that pink gunge is a special gelatine,

which feels strange when it's slapped over your face.

But the fellas took care to leave me air holes so I could breath.

The next step was to apply plaster of Paris,

which stiffens up the gelatine.

And finally, an orange wig.

An orange wig?!

Argh... Ninjas!

THEY GIGGLE

And...

Ah... When it's peeled off,

there you have it. A perfect mould of my face.

Then, while I got cleaned up, Maisie got her hands messy,

mixing the plaster to pour into the mould of my face. Lovely.

How's it going?

-Ooooh!

-LAUGHTER

Someone should put a sign there, it's slippy.

-This is the face cast?

-OK, Maisie.

We poured plaster in before, and now it's set,

so what I need you to do... I'm gonna turn that over,

just like that,

and I'm gonna take this top bit off,

and I want you to peel that out, revealing Barney's face.

-WOLF WHISTLE

-That's beautiful!

-Great, isn't it?

-Slightly scary. What do you think, Maisie?

Yeah, definitely scary.

HE LAUGHS

You're supposed to say it's nice. Right, that's it.

Maisie and Darren sculpted the fortune teller's mask

onto the cast of my face. Hey, what's with the big nose?

Maisie's enjoying herself far too much for my liking.

Oh, wow... Yes!

Starting to get there, I think.

-Nearly done?

-Not really.

I need to spend a couple more hours on it.

But we've blocked most of it out and we know where we're going.

-We like what it looks like.

-Happy, Maisie?

Yeah. It'll scare the pants off Jak.

That's kind of what we're after! Nice one.

Darren finished off sculpting the fortune teller's mask,

and then he made a mould

like the one he'd made earlier of my face.

For a quick recap -

when the cast of my face is put inside the fortune teller's mould,

which is partially filled with a latex solution,

we get this mask, which fits my face perfectly.

I am feeling nervous but excited at the same time,

cos everything's gone dead well.

I don't think Jak will suss it out

cos he likes playing arcade games,

so it'll be like his normal day.

I don't think he'll actually be scared,

just really, really shocked.

-Looking good, people. How's it going?

-Fantastic, I think.

We've aged it, it looks just right for us now.

It's great. What do you think, Maisie?

We should do a dry run, too.

What, test it out in the public? I know just the place. Follow me!

Maisie's idea of a dry run

meant me getting dressed in the now completed fortune teller costume.

Ninjas! Take me to town, let's try this bad boy out.

So, the Ninjas took me to my hometown of Blackpool,

where the folks are always up for a laugh. And I waited.

But not for long, though.

They jumped back four feet, we've got no problems with Jak.

-We have to call him, though.

-What does he think is happening so far?

-He thinks my mum's friend

has a games warehouse and we can go on them for free.

You're gonna give him a call

-and make sure he'll still be there.

-Yeah.

-Ready?

No. HE LAUGHS

I'm with you, don't worry about it. OK... Here goes.

LINE RINGS

-'Hello?'

-Hi!

-'You all right?'

-Yeah.

'My dad told me about...that arcade, sounds really good!'

Yeah. Are you still coming on Thursday?

'Yeah, yes, if that's OK with you?'

-Yeah.

-'Yeah. OK, then.'

Maisie, well done. You were so nervous, but that's it!

The hard part's over.

I give you the answers that Jak will know are true.

He'll believe the fortune-teller is real.

Your mum will call you out for a loo-break, so Jak won't follow you.

You'll go to a room with a microphone. I'll have an earpiece,

so you can talk to me.

-You can tell me what to say to Jak.

I'll give him a card saying, "your luck is about to change."

-Things will start to go really wrong.

-Yeah, my Dad liked Duran Duran.

'That's more than Jak will be in a few minutes! Good job, Maisie!

'Back she goes, just in time for Jak to receive his jinx.'

Jak just had a go on the machine. Look what came out.

-Well, that sounds like me.

'Jak's been given a bad luck card.

'What could go wrong in a games warehouse.'

'Lights back on.

'If Jak carries on like this, he'll blow the whole place to bits.'

-Yeah, the card.

It is a jinx.

'You bet it's a jinx!

'Harry goes to find the old fortune-teller manual.

'Maybe there's a clue on how to reverse a jinx.

'Try page 78, half way down.

'This is how to reverse a jinx, Prank Patrol style!'

SPOOKY VOICE: I can predict your future.

Three things you've got to do to get rid of a jinx.

First one's a magic word.

Decknarp gnieb mi.

Just says that you've got to say it.

'Anyone figured out what that means yet?

'He's actually saying "I'm being pranked" backwards.'

The second one, you've got to turn anticlockwise three times.

'I'm not sure how this helps lift the jinx, but it does look funny.'

The third thing, to get in touch with your childhood innocence,

you must sing a nursery rhyme as loud as you can.

I'll do...Hickory Dickory Dock.

Hickory dickory dock, the mouse ran up the clock.

The clock struck one, the mouse ran down, hickory dickory dock.

'Well, we've scared him, we've made him look silly...

'Now it's time to crank up the prank!'

SPOOKY VOICE: Place hands on glass.

On what? That?

SPOOKY VOICE: Stop pranking Maisie.

-Maisie?

-Yeah.

Hello Jak. How are you doing?

Do you know how hard it is sitting still for that long?

Well done, mate. Maisie, one of those.

-Did we get you?

-A bit.

When it started to go wrong - the blowing up -

it was all part of the plan. Did you have any idea? No?

Everyone, a round of applause for Jak.

The best bit was when the hands came out and he was like, 'Oh my God!'

I thought the fortune-teller was great

cos it knew all those things about me. It seemed really weird.

The thing I was most nervous about was how still I could stay.

Try it. Stay still now and do it for half an hour, see where you get.

I thought he was going to run out cos he'd be dead scared.

The best part was when I was on the Spiderman machine and it blew up.

The best part of the prank was the reaction.

We got some great reactions to the hands in practice,

but none were as good as Jak's today.

Perfect end to a perfect prank.
