Hi, I'm Gwion.

And I'm Alaw.

Today, we're going surfing.

-BOTH:

-Let's go!

Surfing is a sport where you ride a wave on the water by standing

or lying on a surfboard.

This is Jo, a super champion surfer.

So we're in really good hands.

Why do we have to wear these wetsuits?

It gets cold in the water sometimes. Brr!

We put them on to keep nice and warm.

'We also have to wear life jackets.'

What are these things on the surfboard?

Now, these are called fins and they're for turning

when you're on a wave.

'Jo shows us how to

'control the surfboard

'and shows us how to surf lying down.

'We have to do lots of paddling

'with our arms.'

And lean back.

OK, good stuff.

What's next, Jo?

Once we've caught the wave, we need to pop up.

How will I be able to do that?

It sounds really hard.

It's easy! I'm going to teach you in two steps.

So, lean back.

One!

Two! And your surfing stance.

Getting better! Really good! That will work on the water.

It's really important to know what to do when we wipe out.

If you wipe out today - that's falling off your surfboard -

I want you to protect your head.

Cover your head with both hands.

You'll fall off, cover your head, then pop up,

and we can carry on surfing.

There's no need to be nervous.

I'm going to be with you the whole time.

I'll take you in one at a time,

make sure you can catch the wave, and we'll try and have some fun.

Right, where are those chicken wings?

'We have to remember everything Jo had told us before...'

Ready? So, lean back.

Ready? And pop up.

-'..like popping up...'

-Whoops!

'..and wiping out!'

Wipeout! Yeah!

'It's really tricky to stand up.'

So, how did that feel?

Fast and wet.

'We had lots of turns to get it right.

'I'm a bit wobbly at first.'

Good wave!

'I paddled my arms really fast.'

Go on, Gwion, you can do it!

'I got lots of wipeouts.'

It's a wipeout!

-Wow!

-All right?

-Yes.

'I did it!'

Well done, Alaw!

You did it! You're there. How was that?

'I stood up two times.

'Well, for a little while, at least!

'I had such a good time.

'I didn't stand up this time,

'but I'm definitely going to go surfing again.'

Did you enjoy that?

Yeah, definitely.

-Would you go again?

-Yeah.

-Yeah?

-Did you have fun surfing today?

-Yeah, I stood up twice.

Two times, on your first go surfing!
