The Tryouts Who Let the Dogs Out?

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls,

it is the moment you have all been waiting for.

Who Let The Dogs Out is back!

And guess who's taking us to the Dog House this year?

We've only gone and got the most famous dog trainer and dog

in the country - it's Ashleigh Butler and her sidekick Pudsey!

Having been crowned Britain's Got Talent winners 2012,

they have become national treasures.

So it's time to let the dogs out!

Me and Pudsey are SO excited about the Try-outs, isn't that right, Puds?

But first we need to find some great dog trainers.

Oh - and some dogs.

Luckily for Ashleigh,

the Who Let The Dogs Out team have been scouring the whole

of the UK looking for the best young dog trainers and the smartest dogs.

Feeling quite nervous,

but at the same time really excited to meet Ashleigh.

Hundreds and hundreds applied, more than ever before,

but only 80 have made it here to the Try-outs.

I'm quite nervous but I think I might get through.

And Ashleigh's looking for just 27 teams.

So...who will let their nerves get the better of them?

And who will impress Ashleigh enough to make it

through to the Dog House?

Brilliant, well done.

What I do know is that this

series of Who Let The Dogs Out is going to have more

unbelievable stunts, more impossible challenges and

even more mind-blowing Showtimes,

all leading up to one huge exciting finale

where one team will be crowned

the 2013 Who Let The Dogs Out Top Dog Trainer

and walk away with the trophy.

These aren't for you. I think you'll be less trouble backstage, go on.

Now, I've just seen a list of stunts that we're going to be

teaching on this year's Who Let The Dogs Out and they're really tough.

Even me and Pudsey would struggle with them.

I just hope we can find some brilliant dog trainers,

because we need to take 27 teams to the Dog House.

Last year, Steve Mann was one of the finale judges,

and this year, he's back.

He's going to be helping Ashleigh down at the Dog House.

Now, I've been teaching dogs all my life,

and some of the stunts we're teaching this year are really tough,

so I've given Ashleigh a list of dog skills to look out for

at Try-outs, otherwise she's going

to come back with 27 Pudsey lookalikes.

Now, what did I do with it?

Erm, never mind, I'll just use my instincts.

I know what I'm doing, I'm looking for dedication,

great understanding of dog training and great relationships.

If I don't see that, then you won't make it to the Dog House.

So...have these teams got what it takes?

Hmm.

We deserve to get to the Dog House because we work well together

and we're both cheeky.

He's just a super boy, he's just so loving and he's a great companion.

We deserve to go to the Dog House because we practise

and we're not afraid to try new things.

Me and Honey, we work together as a team,

and that's all that really matters.

-She's my baby and I love her.

-Please stop licking my face.

One of the first teams to face Ashleigh has come

all the way from Bridgend in Wales.

It's Daniel and his Jack Russell, Beau.

Me and Beau deserve to get through to the Dog House

because Beau's the most intelligent dog I have ever seen or had.

The worst thing that could happen is that Beau doesn't listen to me

when I'm giving him the commands.

Let's just hope Beau is in the mood to listen to Daniel.

-Hello.

-Hello.

-So, the floor is yours, take it away.

Beau.

Oh, no, this is exactly what Daniel was worried about.

Beau! Wrong way.

-Beau, come back.

-Beau...

It'd be better if you don't chase Beau, cos then it turns into a game.

I wish Beau hadn't ran off the moment I took him

off the lead to do tricks.

-Does Beau like toys?

-Yes, a lot.

-Ooh.

So why don't you use the toy to...? Oh, there we go, you read my mind.

Maybe now Beau will listen to Daniel...

Roll over.

..or maybe not.

-He knows a lot more but he won't do them at the moment.

-Aww.

He's too interested in the pig.

Oh, it's the pig's fault. Pigs can be trouble.

His name's Beau, Ashleigh.

I got confused.

BEAU GROWLS

-Does he let go when you ask him?

-Leave.

You've got to make sure every time he does something you want him

-to do, you give him a reward.

-OK.

'It was very exciting meeting Ashleigh'

and getting her advice on how to train Beau.

-Come on, Beau, we're going to go over together, come on.

-Over.

Yeah, well done, give him the treat.

Wow, maybe Beau can turn this around.

I can show you how bad he is at fetch.

We'll leave that one for another day. Beau, what's this?

Oh, dear.

Oh, probably not now.

He kind of had a bit of an accident on the floor.

-Ashleigh started laughing.

-He was a bit desperate!

-Yeah...sorry.

She said, "That's OK, we'll wipe it up now."

-So, you've just got to be so much quicker with your reward, OK?

I did quite well, but I think Beau could have concentrated a bit more.

-Ally, come here.

Beau wasn't the only dog to do his own thing.

Oh, dear, I think Ashleigh was expecting better than this.

-Have we got it...? No, Molly's gone.

-No, Ivan...

She's disappeared. Like, literally gone.

OK, so they've not been brilliant so far, but I'm not going to worry.

I know there are some great dog trainers out there,

we just have to find them.

In fact, I think

the next team to walk through that door are going to be amazing.

I just have a feeling.

Well, I hope Ashleigh's feeling is right,

because next up we have Eleanor and Lucy.

This is Lucy and she's a cavapoo.

A cavapoo is a cross between a cavalier King Charles spaniel

and a miniature poodle.

I've been training her since she was little

and she just really loves doing tricks.

Lucy's dress is a little cupcake dress

and it has "Pick me" on the back.

She's certainly dressed for success,

but I'm not sure that's enough to impress Ashleigh.

-Hello.

-Hello.

-Hello! And does that say "Pick me"?

-Yeah.

Aww, bless her, she's so cute.

-Does she know lots and lots of tricks, then?

-Yeah.

-And do you do any other activities with her?

-Em, she does dog agility.

And is she really good at it?

-She's OK.

Aw, well, can you show me

all of your different tricks, then, please?

I'm afraid Lucy is going to have to be better than "OK"

to get into the Dog House.

Well done. She doesn't look like the skateboarding type.

I'm no expert, but this looks better than "OK" to me.

-Aw, well done.

-And Ashleigh looks like she's impressed too.

Wow, I still can't believe you just said, "OK",

she's much better than OK!

I think Ashleigh was impressed by Lucy's agility.

Good, give her the treat, give her the treat!

Just make sure you give her the treat while her front paws are up.

So, this is the magic box, shall we have a go at this?

All I want to do at the moment is try and see if Lucy will...

ELEANOR LAUGHS ..go in there, which she will.

Erm, so...that is very, very good. She's not just "OK", is she? Huh?

My try-out went really well because Lucy did all of her tricks

and it was really fun.

Did you train her all by yourself?

-Yeah.

-Well, you must be an absolutely brilliant trainer, then.

I hope Lucy goes through because it would just be really good

to try teach her more tricks and know how to do them properly.

Just "OK"? I honestly can't believe that, they were amazing.

You could see how Eleanor was such a brilliant trainer,

she just didn't give herself enough credit.

The best bit about today is Lucy just being really good

and a little star.

Things are looking up, and Lucy's

not the only one to impress Ashleigh.

Phew, the tricks are getting better, that's a relief.

Arriving for their try-out are Katie and her Border collie Dazzle,

who have travelled overnight from Northern Ireland,

all the way to the Try-outs here in Manchester.

We've had a long journey to make it to the Try-outs

and we had to wake up really early and Dazzle was tired this morning.

Dazzle will need to find some energy

from somewhere, as Katie now has a long wait.

She has the very last try-out.

And Katie's not the only one feeling the pressure.

The worst thing that could happen is that Cleo doesn't do anything,

and just totally ignores me.

That she runs off or doesn't do what she's told.

-If Ellie did a poo or a wee.

-Me freezing, because I am very nervous.

He'll just go mad and won't listen to me at all.

If Pippa don't listen to my commands.

She goes up to the cameraman and does something.

Orio not doing what he's told, and...

HE SIGHS

Well, someone who's not showing any sign of nerves is Dominic

and his dog Cosmo, who is part cocker spaniel, part Labrador.

I think we'll do pretty well cos Cosmo's a bright dog,

surprisingly bright, actually.

Dominic's confident,

but will it last when he comes face-to-face with Ashleigh?

I can see someone's very eager.

SHE LAUGHS

The floor is yours, take it away.

Three, two... Through, through.

-Wow, Dominic's started strong.

-Speak.

-COSMO BARKS

-Good boy.

Paw. Good boy. Paw...double it. Good boy.

-Ashleigh seems impressed too.

-Jump up high. Jump up high.

-Good boy!

-I can really tell that you train Cosmo all yourself.

He's not really looking for anyone, and is totally focused into you.

Cosmo is following every one of Dominic's commands.

That's very good.

In my try-out, I think Ashleigh was mostly impressed

with the "stay" command, because I walked probably halfway

back across the hall and he didn't move.

-Stay...come here!

-Good, well done.

Right, we're going to do it again, but this time I'm going to try

and distract him.

Can Ashleigh's distraction skills break Cosmo's focus?

-Woo!

-Stay.

-Whoo-hoo-hoo.

-Stay...

-Aw, just too good.

Meeting Ashleigh was a privilege because she was my idol

on Britain's Got Talent,

I learnt most of the moves of Cosmo from Ashleigh.

You've got some very interesting tricks there, so well done,

and you're free to go.

I think I've done enough to make it through because Cosmo

did every trick I asked him to - not perfect, but he did them well.

I'm very proud of Cosmo, 10 out of 10.

Well, it's clear to see that Dominic has worked really hard

with Cosmo, they had some interesting tricks and he is a brilliant trainer.

'If I made it through to the knockouts I would be'

joyful, happy... Just every bright emotion.

Dominic has a lot of competition.

Ashleigh can only take 27 trainers to the Dog House.

If I made it to the Dog House I'd feel over the moon.

Probably jump up and down and be like, "YES, get in."

If I did get through, I would be really surprised

and obviously really pleased as well.

It'd be the most amazing thing that could ever happen to me

and Pepsi-Lexi, because that's our dream.

I'll be like when I first got Molly, I'll be crying with joy.

If I made it to the Dog House, I'd be really excited and happy.

Probably screaming and Candy would get all hyper.

Someone else who's desperate to make it to the Dog House is Reagan

and her dog Mika.

Mika's a Siberian husky, she's a rescue and she came to us

because she couldn't be trained.

I'm feeling really excited because I just love it so much.

It's just like the whole vibe

with all these dog people, it's just amazing.

-Hello.

-Hello.

-Now how many tricks do you think Mika knows?

-I want to say around 80, but...

-Wow.

Well, the floor is yours, so take it away.

Go get it. Mika. Mika!

Mika, come tidy, come tidy! Yay!

Wow, I've never heard anyone being that excited about tidying before.

-There we go, good girl, Mika.

-Yeah!

Reagan seems to be excited about everything.

Whoa, calm down, you can't limp excitably. You're meant to be hurt.

Why do you think Mika's so excited?

-It's cos I'm really excited.

-Yeah, I can tell.

-Oh, my gosh.

'I was so excited.'

It rubbed off a bit on Mika.

Go back. Yeah, good. Let's do Gangnam Style. Yeah!

For a dog who couldn't be trained,

Mika seems to know a lot of very impressive tricks.

I think Reagan's a bit more excited than Mika.

I'm not sure if I've done enough to make it into the Dog House,

I hope so.

I'm just really proud of her,

she did really well in her trial...I think.

Come on...yay!

'80 tricks, that is a lot.'

If they did make it to the Dog House, though,

I think Reagan needs to calm down just a little bit.

'I wish I'd, like, lowered my excitement a bit.'

But...I can't really help it.

I've seen some great dogs, but the thing is,

not every dog can do every trick.

I mean, you wouldn't have a Great Dane doing this. Come on, Puds.

The worst trick for Jet on the show would definitely be

the temptation alley.

I think he'd just give up!

-Any tricks that involve water, because he hates swimming.

-Limping.

-Probably trampolining.

-He's not very good at staying in one place.

When he bounces, he doesn't like it and starts barking.

Skateboard, because when he gets on it, it goes backwards.

He hates water, he only likes drinking it.

He doesn't like things that move because they confuse him.

There's no tricks on the show that Chester couldn't do.

Ooh, confident talk there.

But someone who isn't feeling so confident is Freddie, and no wonder.

Him and Border collie JJ are planning on impressing Ashleigh

with a dance routine, the very thing Ashleigh and Pudsey are famous for.

Ashleigh is a really good dog trainer because

on Britain's Got Talent, every time she'd finish one of her tricks,

she would always give Pudsey a hug and lots of treats.

Will Freddie and JJ's dance routine be good enough?

this team have got a few tricks up their sleeve.

And it looks like dancing wasn't all they had to show.

JJ hadn't even seen a catapult

before, yet she was able to work it.

I can't believe how many different breeds I've seen at the Try-outs,

there must have been at least...25?

Well, Ashleigh, let's count.

This is my dog Chico and he's a Chihuahua.

Pepsi-Lexi is a Jackweiler.

This is Fred and he's a Saluki.

Gus is a Jack Russell cross terrier.

Black Labrador retriever.

-She is a puggle.

-He's a husky cross Lab, huskador.

He is a lhaso apso crossed with a Pomeranian.

This is Judy and she's a whippet.

He is a Nova Scotia duck-tolling retriever.

Wirehaired Vizsla, Hungarian.

This is Fatam and she's a Pekapoo,

a crossbreed between a Pekingese and a poodle.

This is Charlie and he's an Irish red setter.

A collie cross, but we think he's a bit of everything.

My favourite breed of all time has to be a cross

between a bichon frise, Border collie and Chinese crested Powderpuff.

It's the end of the Try-outs,

and Katie and Dazzle's wait is finally over.

Three, two, one...

I felt a bit nervous being the last person going in the Try-outs

because all the dogs had left their scent and treats in it

and she was going to pick up the treats and sniff around.

Dazzle!

-Well, I can't wait to see what you have to offer.

I'm glad I travelled all the way from Northern Ireland

on a ferry to come here because it was a really good experience

and we had loads of fun and she did good tricks.

I absolutely loved how Katie used a toy instead of treats,

because when she did have her treats out, Dazzle wasn't interested at all.

But she got that tuggy out and she was so focused.

That was a perfect Try-out.

What a perfect Try-out to end on after five amazing days.

Ashleigh was blown away by the standard, which was higher than ever

and seeing some of the finest young dog training talent

the UK has to offer.

We have seen perfection in performances, terrific tricks

and some unusual antics along the way.

Only 27 could be chosen to battle it out at the Dog House

for the chance to win the ultimate prize,

the Who Let The Dogs Out Top Dog Trainer trophy.

Look, it's Pudsey!

After hours of debate, Ashleigh, Pudsey and producer Claire

made tough decisions to select the top trainers

from all of the Try-outs.

Some brilliant dogs in there and I can't wait to get to the Dog House.

PUDSEY HOWLS

The elite 27 teams have now been chosen

and will face the biggest test of their lives

in one of the most challenging dog trick competitions ever.

Both Dominic and Cosmo

and Reagan and Mika wowed Ashleigh to make it through.

And although Eleanor wasn't too sure she and her dog Lucy

were good enough, Ashleigh certainly was...

Both of you...amazing!

..and thought both of them were ready for the Dog House.

When I got the phone call to say I made it through to the Dog House,

I just felt great and I ran around the house screaming.

Ashleigh saw great potential in both Freddie and JJ,

with some excellent dance moves and top tricks.

I thought they were brilliant.

The bond between this team could make them

real contenders at the Dog House.

Being at the Dog House is really exciting

because I get the chance to become Top Dog Trainer.

And for Katie and Dazzle, who were the last team to try out,

their long journey from Northern Ireland paid off.

Everything we actually gave a go she tried, didn't she?

She's not fazed by anything.

They thrilled Ashleigh to make the top 27

and one step closer to the trophy.

It feels amazing to be here at the Dog House

because I've always wanted to take Dazzle on a TV programme

to prove that collies are really intelligent.

For the chosen few, the journey has just begun.

At the Dog House, they will face the toughest training,

the most demanding tasks and, not forgetting, the daunting show times.

It's going to be a mind-blowing dog training extravaganza.
