This is the Dog House. Today is a very special show, with three of the coolest CBBC presenters.

And look who'll be pushing them to the limits.

The awesome Ashleigh and Pudsey.

Welcome to Who Let The Dogs Out?

Hundreds applied to come to the Dog House.

Actually, these three didn't.

Instead, we've scoured the UK to find three star dog owners

who will battle it out for the title Celebrity Top Dog Trainer.

Ashleigh Butler will be joined by expert dog trainer Steve Mann

to teach them a brilliant stunt.

You'll need a lot of tissue paper.

So, who will be star of the show

and who will throw a celebrity strop?

Ten hoops. We need a lot of sausage.

So, who have we got coming today?

Well, today we have Cel and Bella, Aaron and Poppy and Katie and Jessie

and here's what they normally get up to.

My dog is Bella. She's a Weimaraner.

She's a cool dog and she's a good companion.

When Who Let The Dogs Out asked me to come on, I was like, "Yes! Yes!

"This is Bella's moment to shine."

I am here with Poppy-doo, my lovely Belgian shepherd cross.

Poppy is very loving, very excitable and she loves her dad.

Hello, I'm Katie and I'm a presenter from the CBBC Office.

Hey, dancing - dancing dogs are really popular at the moment.

No, no, no, no, no. Dancing's not my thing.

For me, it's all about the comedy.

My dog is actually my sister's dog, who I look after.

She's called Jessie and she's a black Labrador.

Jessie is mischievous.

She can often be found chasing the rabbits round the back garden as well.

That's something she likes to do from time to time.

Day one of training and time for Ashleigh to introduce the celebrities to dog expert Steve,

who will reveal their challenge.

-Hi, everyone.

-Hi!

-How are you doing today?

-All right.

-Good, good. That's what I like to hear.

So, Steve, these are, obviously, our celebrity dog trainers.

We've got a fantastic stunt for you today.

Today, you're going to start teaching your dogs how to jump through a paper hoop.

-LAUGHTER

-Easy-peasy!

Come show time, your dogs are going to have to jump through ten hoops,

bursting through the paper on the first and last hoop as they go.

The dog that does this in the fastest time

will be the winner.

Aaron, have you ever tried anything like this with Poppy?

No. I might have to do it first because she likes to follow me.

-OK, then.

-I might have to...

And what about Jessie? How do you think she'll cope?

Not very well. She doesn't really like obstructions.

-That's so promising.

-Yeah, it's going to go well!

What about Bella? How much training have you done with her?

She usually has me jumping through hoops to be honest.

OK, so this exercise is all about trust.

Your dog has to have enough faith in you that they're prepared to jump through a solid object for you.

So big bond, big relationship kind of exercise.

The first stage is, if I can make my way this way, sir,

the first stage is to encourage your dog to jump through a nice, simple clear hoop.

So encourage them through.

When they do step through, lots of fuss,

lots of reinforcement, lots of reward.

Then put a command on the behaviour - jump, hoop, step, whatever.

But once you choose a command, be consistent and stick with it.

Then we're going to move through to another hoop.

-That will have a few bits of paper hanging down...

-Ah!

-..just like a little blind.

Then you're going to encourage them through that

and then we'll attach the paper at several places,

so they'll start bursting through the hoops.

Make sure you've got plenty of momentum

because you'll need that to burst through the paper.

OK, so, enjoy your training. Ashleigh's going to look after you.

Feed the lead through, first of all.

Poppy started off a little unsure but good try, there.

Brilliant! Just keep working on that until she's more confident.

That's brilliant. Well done, Poppy.

-Right, Jessie. Pass the lead through first of all.

-Yeah.

There we go. Now show her your treats.

Ooh, treats! Come on.

-Good girl! Loads of confidence. Yes!

-Yes!

-Well done.

Jessie's a bit hesitant, too, but she got there.

So she was a little bit wary, so you need to build her confidence.

Well done. Carry on doing that, then.

-Right, then. Let's have a go.

-This is a weird experience.

-Are you ready, Bella?

-How will Bella do?

Yeah! Good! Well done.

All the dogs are brilliant. They're so not scared of this hoop.

They're like, "This is a piece of cake."

OK, so once you've done that a couple of times,

start bringing in the command.

-Do we say it as they go through the hoop?

-While they're going through the hoop first of all.

-And then you can start bringing it back...

-A bit further.

-Yeah.

And now you can also start giving them a bit of a run-up.

Hoop, hoop, hoop.

To start off with, you just need one hoop, not 20.

-Oh, right.

-Not, "Hoop, hoop, hoop, hoop."

-I was coughing.

-She has no idea what hoop means, OK?

-No, OK.

-So make sure you say it as she going through it.

-OK.

Good advice from Ashleigh.

-Hoop.

-Yeah, good girl! Loads of praise.

-Well done, Poppa-poo.

-Be a bit quicker with your treats, OK?

-She actually got a treat for sitting, there.

-Right.

We don't want her sitting. We want her jumping through that hoop, OK?

-Brilliant. Well done.

-How's Jessie getting on?

-All right, actually.

I think she knows now if she jumps through the hoop she gets a treat.

-Just be a bit quicker with your treat, OK?

Jessie's really getting the hang of this challenge.

but I'd much rather train Pudsey than do housework.

However, if you were really clever, you could teach your dog to do the housework for you.

Hi, guys. You all look very focused. Working hard - that's what I like to see.

Now I think you're ready to move on to the second hoop, OK?

-So, Aaron and Poppy, it might take a bit more encouragement this time.

-But do exactly the same. Tell her hoop and everything like that.

-OK.

It's the same one. It's just got some white paper on it, OK?

-Almost.

-Oh, dear. Poppy's not keen on the paper.

-So you're going to go right back to basics with her.

So this one is completely new to Poppy, OK?

So you have to make sure you have your hand there

-exactly the same as the basics we started on, OK?

And we've also adjusted your hoop slightly, lifted it up,

-just to make it a little bit easier for her to jump through.

So making sure that you put your hand right through here and guide her through.

So all Bella needs to realise is that she doesn't get that treat until she goes through the hoop.

Oh, Jessie!

She's a little bit unpredictable, is Poppy,

so if she's feeling a bit distracted and bored of the treats, it's going to be a challenge,

so fingers crossed.

I thought, "There's no way Jessie's going to jump through that," but she was great.

It's amazing what dogs will do when there's sausage and cheese available afterwards.

I was quite happy overall with the training.

It could have gone a lot worse.

We need to remember what Ashleigh and Steve said -

a lot of praise when they've gone through

and saying it as she goes through, not before.

To teach your dog a trick, don't say it before.

Jumping through a hoop requires strength and stamina

but all of our dogs are built differently,

so let's take a look at their mutt measurements

to see who has the edge in this challenge.

First is Aaron's dog, Poppy, who's a Belgian shepherd cross.

Belgian crosses are often known to be highly intelligent,

so perhaps those big brain cells

will give Poppy the edge in this trick.

Poppy is a big football fan, just like Aaron.

I wonder if that's how she keeps so fit?

Katie has brought Jessie, who's a black Labrador.

Labradors are retrievers,

which means they're naturally inclined to fetch most things on command.

Mm, shame this isn't a fetching trick, Katie.

Katie says Jessie is calm, friendly and has a wiggly bum.

A wiggly bum?

That could come in handy for hoop-jumping.

Cel's dog Bella is a Weimaraner

and this breed are originally from Germany.

Bella is a real softie at heart.

She has a comfy cushion and prefers sunbathing to boisterous behaviour.

This breed are sometimes known as the Grey Ghost

because of their slightly spooky grey-yellow eyes.

So can Bella scare off the competition?

Our famous friends are heading back for training with Ashleigh

before Steve arrives with the next steps.

Come on. Hoop, hoop.

Good girl! Well done.

-How are we doing, gang?

-We're doing really good.

-Poppy wasn't very confident to start with, was she?

-No.

She was like, "Oh, I'm not sure about it,"

-but shall we take a look?

-Let's go.

Fantastic. OK, that's nice.

What I'd really like to see now is, as she goes through,

you add your command "hoop", once you're through, "Good girl,"

-then...

-Right, got you.

-..you give her the reward.

-We're rewarding the behaviour, we're not luring it.

Let's have one more look. Nice and slow.

-Hoop. Good girl, Poppy.

-That's nicer.

-Add that command, reward at the end and super slow.

-Plenty of time for speed later on.

-How has Jessie been getting on?

-Not bad. Shall I give it a go?

-Yeah, let's take a look.

I think with Jess we will have a little bit more momentum.

-Yeah.

-OK? This is what I want you to do.

Through the hoop, good girl, then you're going to jog to about here

-and then reward her.

So she does that whole behaviour, she clears it and then she gets the good stuff.

-Yes.

-Get the behaviour first, nice and clean.

-Cool.

Come on, Jess.

-No, no. That's it. OK.

-Good, good, good.

-Good girl.

-A bit further, a bit further, a bit further...

-Good girl.

-That's nice. That will keep her focused on going straighter.

-Well done, Jessie.

-Keep cracking on, there.

So, how have you and Bella been getting on, then?

-We're getting there, slowly but surely.

-Let's take a look.

Ready, Bella? Come on.

Hoop! Come on.

Yeah! Good girl!

OK. All I'd like to see this time round

is that you go just a little bit further through.

So you need to pass your lead through a little bit sharper

-and then the reward.

-OK.

-OK?

-Right. Are you ready, Bel?

-You don't have to go fast.

-Ready?

-Smooth will be the secret on this one.

-Hoop!

-That's it. Nice.

-Well, I think they're all ready for the next step.

-I agree.

OK, gang, gather in.

I want you to start asking your dogs to actually rip through a bit of paper as they go through.

They need to get used to that tension, the sound, the movement.

-Let's go and do a bit of taping, then.

-OK.

So, just tape a couple of strips.

In fact, just start with one

and encourage your dog to go through the hoop as you were before,

keeping your same body language and command.

Once they're doing that confidently, then you're going to have two strips,

three strips, four strips and we'll expand as we go along.

You're going to go through a lot of tissue paper.

If you think they're not as confident as they could be,

take a few steps back, OK?

Maybe go to a single strip or come back to where they're all moving freely.

So I'm going to head off.

She's seen that they're not moving, so she's going to the side and jumping.

So we're going to change this up a little bit, so she learns...

-So she has to rip through.

Now, hoop-jumping looks like a hoot.

Why not try teaching your dog this stunt using these five steps?

Step one. Teach your dog to jump through a clear hoop

and start to introduce a command word when your dog jumps,

like hoop or jump.

Step two.

Increase the distance

and start to get your dog to run and jump through the hoop on command.

Step three.

Once your dog is happy jumping through the hoop,

begin to add a few strips of paper

and don't forget - lots of encouragement.

Step four. Increase the amount of paper attached to the hoops

until your dog is ripping the strips.

Step five. Keep adding and encouraging

until your dog can jump through a full paper hoop.

What's the point of doing it if you're not going to win?

I will probably cry if I lose, to be honest with you.

I don't want to cry on camera, if I'm honest with you.

I want to win, yeah.

I'd like to win for the girls and beat both these boys,

so fingers crossed.

We're in with a good chance.

All the dogs are as good as each other,

so if we get lots of practising in, we've got a chance.

Go!

I'm going to get my daughters to help me out

because we're going to need a lot of practice.

I'm going to be busy, so they're going to have to help out.

Pudsey here is a right show-off

and one of his favourite tricks is his hide

and today, we're going to be teaching you how to do this.

So first of all, put your dog in a down position.

Lie down.

The hardest bit about this is actually teaching your dog to give paw in a down position.

So you might have to re-teach this.

So I'm going to ask Pudsey for one of his paws.

I'm going to choose this paw because he's more confident with it.

Once I've got his paw in my hand,

I'm going to use my treat to guide his head underneath his paw.

Ready? Puds, left.

SHE CLICKS Good.

And then give him the treat in that position.

Good boy! Well done!

Making sure that I give him the treat while his paw is over his face

and not after or before.

Now, each time I try and lower his head ever so slightly,

so it's touching the ground more and more.

Ready? Left. SHE CLICKS

Good. Clever! Until his head is finally touching the ground.

Then you can start bringing in your command. I use hide.

Then, do exactly the same but while his head is underneath his paw,

I will slowly take my hand away from his paw

so his paw is left on top of his head.

And this is what the finished product should look like.

Ready? Head down. Hide.

Go! Good boy! Well done. That was good.

Try this at home with your dog and good luck.

When training your dogs at home, you are in control.

But take a look at this next clip, where the dogs are definitely the ones in the driving seat -

literally.

Now, driving a car takes skill.

Hold on a minute - is that a dog driving?

It is! And he's called Monty, a giant schnauzer cross,

and, yes, he really is driving that car.

This is no trick.

This is a New Zealand rescue centre

where the staff have come up with a unique way of finding homes for their dogs

by teaching them how to drive.

Training starts indoors, teaching dogs how to press buttons

and move the gear stick.

Then, they move on to steering

and eventually, get to try it out for real

in a specially adapted car.

The trainers at the rescue centre hope

that when people see how clever these dogs are,

they'll be more likely to take them home.

Let's hope it works and that Monty gets the home he deserves.

Two weeks of training is over

and it's time for our showbiz chums and their dogs to take on show time.

But only one can claim the trophy.

So will Cel spell out success with Bella?

My tactics are to try and get Bella in the zone.

It's all about staying focused, OK?

If her mind's elsewhere, this is never good.

Will Katie be perfect in her presentation with Jessie?

I'm not usually that competitive but I would quite like the trophy,

so I really want to win now. I hope Jessie can do it.

Or will Aaron go hoop crazy with Poppy?

I might give the other dogs massages just to relax them

and do some Jedi mind training on them,

like...

so Poppy's got a bit of a chance.

Time to find out.

It's show time

and only one of our celebrities will walk away with the trophy.

As you can see, we have ten hoops

and only the first and last hoop is covered in paper.

Their time will start when they burst through the first hoop.

Then they'll jump the eight middle hoops

and burst through the last hoop and cross the finish line.

Whichever team does this in the quickest time

will be today's winner.

-I am so excited.

-This is going to be good.

-Celebrity special!

-It's the biggie!

-It is! It's amazing. I can't wait.

Now, which team has really stood out for you?

The team that stands out for me is definitely Katie and Jessie.

-So you think they're going to do it?

-Without a shadow of a doubt.

Let's not make our celebrities wait any longer.

A 30-second time penalty will be added for any hoops missed

and also if any hands are put through the paper hoops

to help the dogs break through.

First up, it's Cel and Bella.

This star duo have been consistent throughout training

but how will they fare when the pressure's on?

-Come on.

-Not the best start.

What's this?

Time penalty there, Cel.

-Good girl.

-Bella's back on track.

And again. And again.

-Oh!

-Cel's dropped his treats!

And Bella's missed that hoop.

-Hoop!

-Good recovery there, Cel.

-Hoop!

-Bella's bounding through now.

-Hoop!

-Oh! Another refusal.

And another time penalty, there.

Looks like Bella's not too keen on that paper.

Come on. Good girl.

Bella hoop-jumped with speed

but this team did incur 60 seconds in time penalties

for the two paper hoops,

giving them an overall time of 1 minute 29 seconds.

Next up it's Katie and Jessie.

This famous pair have been strong in training.

Now can they pull off a perfect performance and beat Cel and Bella's time?

Jessie. Go, go, girl.

-Through here, through here.

-Jessie's hesitating.

The first time penalty, there.

OK, come on. No, no, no, this way.

Come on, Jessie! This is against the clock.

This one! Jessie.

Katie's doing her best to encourage Jessie.

Jump, that's it. Jump. Come on, you can do it. Good girl!

She's through but Jessie needs to focus.

-What's that?

-Jessie's bouncing through those hoops!

Well done, girl!

Look at her go!

-No time for treats!

-Did you drop a treat?

-Right, through this one.

-Another time penalty, there.

Good girl!

Jessie did get back on track

but with penalties, this team's overall time of 1 minute 41 seconds

means Cel and Bella are the ones to beat.

Last but not least, it's Aaron and Poppy.

OK, we can do this, OK?

Poppy has been a little hesitant with the hoops

but now can this show biz pair jump to victory

and take the title from Cel and Bella?

Wow! No hesitation there. Poppy's powering through.

-D'uh!

-Aaron, keep your focus.

-Come on, come on.

-Amazing!

-Well, Aaron's certainly happy and so he should be.
