Good evening. The football fans risking it all for tickets to | :00:03. | :00:10.
Swansea's big game. Clamping down on the conmen | :00:10. | :00:16.
hounding Shirley and her neighbours. And Donna's rotten experience with | :00:16. | :00:26.
:00:26. | :00:34. | ||
Hello and welcome to the programme. Now if you are one of the million | :00:35. | :00:38.
people in Wales who own a smartphone like this, keep watching. | :00:38. | :00:41.
We will show you how to make sure fraudsters do not get their hands | :00:41. | :00:45.
on your personal details. But first, here at the Liberty Stadium in | :00:45. | :00:48.
Swansea, the club shop has been a very busy place in the last few | :00:48. | :00:51.
weeks, with fans stocking up on scarves and shirts before Sunday's | :00:51. | :00:56.
cup final at Wembley. But for some, getting hold of tickets for a sell- | :00:56. | :01:06.
:01:06. | :01:06. | ||
out game like this is much harder. There is nothing like a big match | :01:06. | :01:16.
:01:16. | :01:24. | ||
day. Well, only if you have got a ticket for this Sunday's game. This | :01:24. | :01:29.
is the hottest ticket in town. And these fans are determined to get | :01:29. | :01:32.
their hands on one to see Swansea play Bradford in the Capital One | :01:32. | :01:42.
:01:42. | :01:43. | ||
Cup final at Wembley. Tell me how precious that ticket is to you? | :01:43. | :01:48.
is worth its weight in gold. I have been waiting for this for 47 years. | :01:48. | :01:52.
To miss that would be... Well, I wouldn't sell it for the world. | :01:52. | :01:55.
For the Cup final the official and legal place for fans to get tickets | :01:56. | :01:58.
is from Swansea or Bradford Football Clubs. The problem is, | :01:58. | :02:01.
there just are not enough to go around. | :02:01. | :02:04.
But some desperate fans are prepared to take big risks to see | :02:04. | :02:08.
their heroes in action. Despite being a Swans supporter for 20 | :02:08. | :02:10.
years, Kevin Hughes from Llandrindod Wells has had no luck | :02:10. | :02:16.
getting a ticket. I used to go down there with my dad | :02:16. | :02:20.
and we used to go to some of the away games as well and that is | :02:20. | :02:24.
where the interest began. But with Swansea's allocation for | :02:24. | :02:28.
Sunday all sold out, Kevin is one of many posting online appeals to | :02:28. | :02:35.
buy tickets from other fans on the black market. So what are the | :02:35. | :02:38.
rules? Well, unlike concerts or other sports tickets, football is a | :02:38. | :02:44.
whole different ball game. It is illegal to re-sell match tickets or | :02:44. | :02:49.
make them available to others without the organisers' permission. | :02:49. | :02:52.
And if you are caught, you face a 5,000 fine and a ban from future | :02:52. | :02:57.
matches. The law was put in place so clubs | :02:58. | :03:00.
could keep track of who was sitting where and keep rival supporters | :03:01. | :03:05.
apart in the wake of the Hillsborough disaster. Leigh Dineen, | :03:05. | :03:08.
vice chairman of Swansea City, says it is crucial for clubs to have | :03:08. | :03:13.
control of match days. It is all to do with firstly the | :03:13. | :03:16.
health and safety issue and making sure we can monitor where the | :03:16. | :03:19.
tickets are going, because obviously we need to take the names | :03:19. | :03:22.
and addresses of everybody who buys a ticket. Also, we make sure | :03:22. | :03:26.
tickets go to the right people, so that the season ticket holders are | :03:26. | :03:29.
going to get their first chance and from there on that is where our | :03:29. | :03:34.
membership schemes and so on kick But what if you are a fan and do | :03:34. | :03:37.
not qualify for tickets for the big games? That's the situation Kevin | :03:37. | :03:42.
is in. Two years ago he had a bad experience when he tried to buy a | :03:42. | :03:47.
Championship playoff ticket from another fan. | :03:47. | :03:50.
I was supposed to meet the seller with the tickets outside Wembley | :03:50. | :03:58.
and the tickets failed to turn up. We were stuck outside Wembley. | :03:58. | :04:01.
So when the next big game came around, Kevin tried a different | :04:01. | :04:09.
tack - a slick-looking website called Online Ticket Express. | :04:09. | :04:12.
There were a number of sites offering tickets but it came down | :04:12. | :04:18.
to that one appearing to be the most legit and professional site. | :04:18. | :04:21.
He paid more than 200 for two tickets, much more than their face | :04:21. | :04:27.
value. We paid over the odds but it was a | :04:27. | :04:31.
game that we really wanted to get to. Having assured that we had | :04:31. | :04:33.
tickets we then went on and booked accommodation and travel | :04:33. | :04:39.
arrangements. But the day before the match Online | :04:39. | :04:42.
Ticket Express had some devastating news for Kevin - they did not have | :04:42. | :04:47.
any tickets to send him and he would not be going to the game. | :04:47. | :04:50.
After weeks of chasing, he did get a refund but the company had the | :04:50. | :04:56.
cheek to keep a hefty handling fee. So Kevin got some money back but it | :04:56. | :05:01.
seems other customers were not quite so lucky. | :05:01. | :05:03.
We found hundreds of complaints about this Spanish based firm - | :05:03. | :05:08.
from tickets not arriving to being in the wrong section of the ground. | :05:08. | :05:13.
And the Premier League is worried too. They gave us a list of | :05:13. | :05:17.
unauthorised sites that they are urging fans to avoid. Not | :05:17. | :05:23.
surprisingly, Online Ticket Express is on there. We searched all the | :05:23. | :05:25.
sites on the Premier League's warning list, and five were | :05:25. | :05:31.
advertising tickets for the Swansea Bradford final. But any fans | :05:31. | :05:36.
tempted to buy tickets from them will need very deep pockets. | :05:36. | :05:41.
So how do these websites work? Most claim to be simply a middle-man. | :05:41. | :05:44.
They put buyers in touch with fans who are looking to sell their | :05:45. | :05:50.
tickets. And the website charges a fee for introducing them. | :05:50. | :05:53.
Any fan in the UK who re-sells their ticket is definitely breaking | :05:53. | :06:00.
the law. But for the websites the law is less clear. And, because | :06:00. | :06:06.
they are based abroad, it is harder to enforce. So if you do decide to | :06:06. | :06:09.
risk buying from an unofficial site, where do you stand if things go | :06:09. | :06:17.
wrong? Online Ticket Express has some very interesting small print. | :06:17. | :06:21.
Do not expect them to help if you are refused entry or thown out | :06:21. | :06:24.
because someone else's name is on your ticket or if your tickets get | :06:24. | :06:31.
lost in the post. Even if you do get a ticket, you could find | :06:31. | :06:36.
yourself in the middle of the other team's fans - a serious safety risk. | :06:36. | :06:44.
Their answer to that? Just don't wear your team's colours. It may | :06:44. | :06:49.
sound ridiculous but Leigh Dineen from Swansea City is horrified. | :06:49. | :06:52.
Please do not go onto these websites and buy a ticket. You are | :06:52. | :06:55.
not guaranteed that the ticket you are getting will actually get you | :06:55. | :06:59.
into the ground or actually get you into the part of the ground where | :06:59. | :07:02.
you are going to feel safe. But many fans feel they have no | :07:02. | :07:06.
option but to buy tickets this way. They shouldn't be doing it, but | :07:06. | :07:09.
then there's people there selling them so desperate fans will pay to | :07:09. | :07:13.
see their team win. Others told us they want clubs to | :07:13. | :07:17.
do more to help fans re-sell tickets without breaking the law. | :07:17. | :07:21.
We put that to Leigh Dineen. I think they've got a point and it | :07:21. | :07:25.
is something that perhaps we should be looking it. Certainly even on a | :07:25. | :07:28.
day-to-day match when someone's got a season ticket and they cannot | :07:28. | :07:32.
make the game and they would like to sell the season ticket on. It is | :07:32. | :07:36.
something we can look at. But it will not come in time for | :07:36. | :07:39.
Sunday's final. And by then, some fans could well be left counting | :07:39. | :07:44.
the cost. So what do those unofficial | :07:44. | :07:48.
websites have to say? We contacted Online Ticket Express and the four | :07:48. | :07:51.
other websites advertising tickets for the Cup final but none of them | :07:51. | :07:58.
wanted to talk to us. And if you are a football fan who | :07:58. | :08:02.
has had a bad experience with a ticket website, we would love to | :08:02. | :08:12.
:08:12. | :08:13. | ||
hear from you. You can call or Still to come - fighting back | :08:13. | :08:16.
against doorstep rogues in the Rhondda. | :08:16. | :08:22.
And the 1,600 shed which leaked as soon as it rained. | :08:22. | :08:25.
Next, Lucy is in Denbighshire, meeting an iPhone owner who is | :08:25. | :08:31.
getting nowhere with Apple. It is one of the most recognised | :08:31. | :08:37.
and envied logos in the world - an apple with a bite taken out of it. | :08:37. | :08:41.
And Apple's iPhone has become the must-have mobile for many. | :08:41. | :08:46.
Millions of people love using their iPhone. You can check emails on the | :08:46. | :08:51.
go, access your bank accounts, even do the weekly shop online. But one | :08:51. | :08:57.
X-Ray viewer has had a rotten experience with Apple. Donna Marie | :08:57. | :09:00.
Jones from Denbigh had owned her iPhone 4S for less than a year when | :09:01. | :09:04.
it stopped working. But she was confident her 500 phone would be | :09:05. | :09:11.
covered by her warranty. Apple told Donna to make the 50-mile trip to | :09:11. | :09:16.
their store here in Liverpool, so they could check out her phone. But | :09:16. | :09:22.
their verdict was hard to swallow. The guy came over, one of these | :09:22. | :09:26.
technicians, took my phone away for two seconds, came back and said it | :09:26. | :09:29.
was water-damaged. He put it back together and he said although it | :09:29. | :09:32.
was in warranty, because it was water-damaged I'd have to pay to | :09:32. | :09:37.
have a new phone. What did you think when they said it was water- | :09:37. | :09:39.
damaged? Disgusted at first. I know for a | :09:39. | :09:42.
fact it has not been in water. The Apple store insisted Donna's | :09:42. | :09:46.
warranty was void. But they gave her another option - to buy a | :09:46. | :09:51.
reconditioned phone for 139, which would be just as good as a new one. | :09:51. | :09:54.
So Donna gave back her first Apple iPhone and bought a second, | :09:54. | :10:00.
refurbished one. But far from being like new, it was more like a half- | :10:00. | :10:05.
eaten apple. It wouldn't work, wouldn't come on, wouldn't activate, | :10:05. | :10:10.
nothing, wouldn't pick up Wifi. So yet again more phone calls to Apple. | :10:10. | :10:14.
And then you had a real shock? When I went to put in my email | :10:14. | :10:17.
address, someone else's email address was on there. | :10:17. | :10:21.
And as she looked through the phone, she couldn't believe her eyes when | :10:21. | :10:25.
she found the previous owner's bank details and his password. | :10:25. | :10:28.
I probably could have got into his bank accounts, made transfers, | :10:28. | :10:32.
things like that. I could have his emails, have his contacts. It had | :10:32. | :10:36.
photos on and stuff as well. Obviously, everything he had backed | :10:36. | :10:40.
up to his phone was still there. So in the wrong hands, it could | :10:40. | :10:42.
have been very serious? Yes, definitely, but Apple weren't | :10:42. | :10:45.
particularly that bothered. They said it couldn't have happened and | :10:45. | :10:48.
it hasn't happened. I don't think they believed me at first. | :10:48. | :10:51.
Donna contacted the previous owner of her phone to tell him what she'd | :10:51. | :10:55.
found. He was going mad. He took the phone | :10:55. | :11:00.
into Liverpool two days before they handed me back the same phone. | :11:00. | :11:04.
Apple say that when they service a phone all data is erased. But Donna | :11:04. | :11:07.
insists the phone she bought from the Liverpool store was full of | :11:07. | :11:14.
personal information. And she is now panicking that someone else | :11:14. | :11:18.
could could get their hands on her details. | :11:18. | :11:21.
Who's to guarantee that my phone that I brought in wasn't handed to | :11:21. | :11:26.
someone? I've got things on there I would not like anyone else to look | :11:26. | :11:29.
Donna wiped the previous owner's details from the phone she had | :11:29. | :11:33.
bought but it was still faulty. After yet more calls to Apple, | :11:34. | :11:39.
Donna says they agreed to replace it with a brand new one. | :11:39. | :11:44.
They said they'd have to charge 29.99 for delivery. I wasn't happy | :11:44. | :11:48.
after everything with the 29.99. So this lady went off and came back | :11:48. | :11:51.
later and said they'd waiver that, however they would take bank | :11:51. | :11:56.
details in case anything went wrong. Donna returned her second Apple | :11:56. | :12:00.
iPhone and Apple gave her a third one. Everything seemed fine until | :12:00. | :12:06.
she tried to pay for the weekly shop. | :12:06. | :12:08.
My card got declined in the supermarket which was really | :12:08. | :12:12.
embarrassing. I thought I'd not long been paid. | :12:12. | :12:15.
So Donna called her bank and was furious to learn that, without | :12:15. | :12:22.
warning, Apple had put a holding fee of 450 on her account. | :12:22. | :12:27.
Because of that my direct debits and standing orders were bouncing. | :12:27. | :12:28.
Did you incur charges because of that? | :12:29. | :12:34.
Yes, I did - 50. I was fuming. After yet more phone calls, Apple | :12:34. | :12:39.
put the 450 back in Donna's account. But phone number three | :12:39. | :12:44.
wasn't all it seemed either. Donna says she had been promised a | :12:44. | :12:49.
new phone but Apple had sent her another second-hand model. By now, | :12:49. | :12:54.
her faith in Apple had crumbled. It's put me out of pocket, it's | :12:54. | :12:59.
made me feel stressed. For such a big a company, their customer | :12:59. | :13:05.
service is really rubbish. We asked Apple about Donna's | :13:05. | :13:09.
problems, but they wouldn't comment on her case. But they have now sent | :13:09. | :13:12.
her had a brand new iPhone and given her back the 139 she paid | :13:12. | :13:17.
for her refurbished phone. So that's good news. | :13:17. | :13:19.
And if you're worried about mobile phone security, keep watching, | :13:19. | :13:22.
because later we'll show you how to stop your details falling into the | :13:23. | :13:28.
wrong hands. One problem we hear a lot about on | :13:28. | :13:31.
X-Ray is unwanted cold callers, who visit streets like these, trying to | :13:31. | :13:35.
make a quick buck by selling dodgy driveways or shoddy buidling work. | :13:35. | :13:38.
And in some parts of Rhondda Cynon Taff, things have got so bad, | :13:39. | :13:44.
they've launched a new scheme to scare away the scammers. | :13:44. | :13:47.
This Llantrisant estate is a hotspot for doorstep crime. From | :13:48. | :13:50.
rogue repairmen to dodgy double glazing salesmen, many elderly | :13:50. | :13:57.
residents have been repeatedly conned into handing over their cash. | :13:57. | :14:01.
80-year-old Shirley is one of their victims. She has Alzheimer's and | :14:01. | :14:05.
her daughter Rhian knows just how vulnerable that makes her. | :14:05. | :14:08.
She'll let anybody over the doorstep. Some gardeners turned up, | :14:08. | :14:11.
offered to do some work in the front garden, charged her 350, I | :14:11. | :14:18.
think it was. When she didn't have cash or a cheque book at home, they | :14:18. | :14:23.
drove her to bank. The whole situation makes me feel pretty | :14:23. | :14:26.
anxious, becuase I can make my mum as safe and comfortable as possible | :14:27. | :14:30.
in her own home, but I've got no control over who knocks on the door | :14:30. | :14:37.
and who she invites over the doorstep. | :14:37. | :14:40.
I'm Sergeant Ceri Williams from the neighbourhood policing team. | :14:40. | :14:44.
But a change is on its way. Today, it is police who are knocking on | :14:44. | :14:48.
doors, telling residents about a new scheme to tackle the problem. | :14:48. | :14:51.
This area is one of three in Rhondda Cynon Taff that has been | :14:51. | :14:56.
identified as vulnerable in respect of rogue traders and cold callers. | :14:56. | :14:59.
We have put a scheme in place in partnership with Rhondda Cynon Taff | :14:59. | :15:01.
Trading Standards, whereby the residents put a window sticker in | :15:02. | :15:04.
either their window or door and this will then give message that | :15:05. | :15:12.
they don't want any cold callers. From March 1st, any traders who | :15:12. | :15:14.
ignore those signs are breaking the law and police and trading | :15:15. | :15:19.
standards can send rapid response teams to stop them. It can't come | :15:19. | :15:23.
soon enough for Rhian and her mum Shirley. | :15:23. | :15:25.
I'm sure a couple of the unscrupulous ones will still try | :15:25. | :15:29.
their luck but it's going to be a no cold calling zone over a large | :15:29. | :15:36.
area. I think neighbours will all be aware. She's going to be safer | :15:36. | :15:46.
:15:46. | :15:50. | ||
because there will be less people Now this street in Porth is also | :15:50. | :15:53.
part of the cold calling control zone - in fact you might recognise | :15:53. | :15:56.
it, we were here just a few months ago, when a rogue driveway company | :15:56. | :15:59.
was causing problems. Tim Pocknell is from Rhondda Cynon Taff Trading | :15:59. | :16:03.
Standards is with me - hi Tim. This is obviously a big problem around | :16:03. | :16:05.
here. Are people being repeatedly targeted here? Yes unfortunately, | :16:05. | :16:08.
we find they are. It seems to be a pattern of organised crime from | :16:08. | :16:15.
these rogue traders. They will come to someone's house, rip them off, | :16:15. | :16:18.
and then sell their information onto someone else, which we call a | :16:18. | :16:21.
"sucker list". So if you're on the sucker list, you've been targeted | :16:21. | :16:24.
before, they're coming back to get more money off you. Have you caught | :16:24. | :16:27.
people doing it? Yes we have. We've caught people in Cardiff, actually | :16:27. | :16:30.
on their way to buy a list for information of people on a sucker | :16:31. | :16:33.
list. We've also had problems with people posting as BBC Watchdog. | :16:33. | :16:43.
:16:43. | :16:45. | ||
They will try and get your money back. Few have been targeted by | :16:45. | :16:52.
rogue traders. It's incredible. What about if people don't live in | :16:52. | :16:54.
one of these cold calling control zones, can they still protect | :16:54. | :16:57.
themselves? Yes they can, simple answer is if anyone comes to your | :16:57. | :17:01.
door to sell goods or services you can tell them to go away, that's | :17:01. | :17:04.
your request to leave if they come back, and they refuse your request | :17:04. | :17:08.
to leave, there's an offence there. You can also use a window sticker | :17:08. | :17:12.
if you put it up. If you haven't got one in a cold calling zone, you | :17:12. | :17:15.
can still make a sticker up which says "Uninvited callers not welcome, | :17:15. | :17:18.
please go". If they don't do so, it's a criminal offence. If they | :17:18. | :17:21.
keep coming back, ring Trading Standards. If you're not sure, not | :17:21. | :17:24.
happy ring the police, there's no problem with that whatsoever. | :17:24. | :17:26.
advice Tim, thanks very much. Next, Lucy's in Haverfordwest, | :17:26. | :17:29.
where a brand new shed has become a very soggy structure! | :17:29. | :17:32.
Too often the humble shed is overlooked - dismissed as nothing | :17:32. | :17:35.
more than the place you shove your shovels at the bottom of the garden. | :17:36. | :17:39.
But to many, the shed is so much more - their oasis of calm, their | :17:39. | :17:44.
busy workshop, their pride and joy. Some even conceal a hidden world | :17:44. | :17:51.
you could never imagine. Like your very own shed cinema, a shed with a | :17:51. | :17:55.
bar perhaps? And if your shed is anything but common or garden, you | :17:55. | :17:58.
might even find yourself in the running for the hotly contested | :17:58. | :18:04.
Shed of the Year. The owners of this garden shed in Haverfordwest | :18:04. | :18:07.
may not have had such grand plans but they did have high hopes for | :18:07. | :18:12.
how it would enhance their lives. So much so, they spent more than | :18:12. | :18:20.
1,600 on it. Do you need anything else now? Steve and Anne McDonald's | :18:20. | :18:25.
home is their world. Virtually bedbound through ill health, Anne | :18:25. | :18:28.
hoped the shed would give them some space to enjoy the hobbies they | :18:28. | :18:32.
love. For Anne, it's arts and crafts while Steve loves model | :18:32. | :18:37.
engines. We were hoping to put a small model railway in here and to | :18:37. | :18:40.
store Anne's equipment cos as you can see, it's very difficult in the | :18:40. | :18:44.
house. I've got a wheelchair out the front, I've got all her | :18:44. | :18:47.
handling equipment all over the place so it's very difficult to | :18:47. | :18:52.
live in the house as it is. would have hopefully given me a | :18:52. | :18:58.
change of environment from the four walls here. Keen to do things right, | :18:58. | :19:05.
the McDonalds paid hundreds for a concrete base for the shed. I said | :19:05. | :19:08.
to Steve, well look if we're going to spend quite a lot of money for | :19:09. | :19:13.
us on a shed, then it needs to be done properly. Anne spotted an | :19:13. | :19:16.
advert online for a shed with a 10 year guarantee - and asked the | :19:16. | :19:25.
company, Highgate Garden Buildings, to pay her a visit. We explained | :19:25. | :19:35.
:19:35. | :19:37. | ||
what we wanted, why we wanted a very specific type of layout. So a | :19:37. | :19:41.
chap came down and he said, base was one of the best bases he'd ever | :19:41. | :19:43.
seen. And you asked about maintaining the shed? I said we | :19:43. | :19:47.
need something that's low maintenance. He said, you won't | :19:47. | :19:51.
have to do anything with it for at least 10 years. OK, I thought that | :19:51. | :19:58.
sounds pretty good to me. So Anne paid for the shed - and up it went. | :19:58. | :20:02.
It looked wonderful the day they did it, mind you, the weather was | :20:02. | :20:07.
dry. Everything seemed rosy while the sun was shining but then the | :20:07. | :20:10.
wet Welsh autumn arrived. The shed had a soaking and Anne and Steve | :20:10. | :20:14.
were in for a shock. Within three days it started leaking. It was | :20:14. | :20:17.
damp round the bottom and then we noticed every time it rained, there | :20:17. | :20:23.
was rain coming in other places. the rain kept pouring, the problems | :20:23. | :20:28.
just got worse. It was coming in where the windows are, it was | :20:28. | :20:31.
coming in between the slats, soaking the slats, and in the end | :20:31. | :20:36.
it was coming in the roof. Anne complained to Highgate and sent | :20:36. | :20:39.
photos - but wasn't happy with their response. They said the shed | :20:39. | :20:42.
needed guttering, downpipes and a soakaway -all at the McDonald's | :20:42. | :20:50.
expense. So much for those promises of it being low maintenance. And | :20:50. | :20:53.
this was the first time the company had talked about gutterings or | :20:53. | :20:59.
soakaways? Yeah - he saw the base before they put the shed up, there | :20:59. | :21:03.
was no talk about soakaways. None whatsoever. Highgate also said the | :21:03. | :21:06.
couple should have put a waterproof coating on the shed - which they'd | :21:06. | :21:12.
explained when they bought it. But Anne disagrees. If somebody had | :21:12. | :21:16.
said to us you need to do this straight away, we'd have had it | :21:16. | :21:19.
done straight away. You don't spend what somewhere in the region of | :21:19. | :21:23.
300 - 500 building a base and then 1,600 odd on a shed and then | :21:23. | :21:33.
:21:33. | :21:35. | ||
ruin it by not looking after it. Since reaching a stalemate with the | :21:35. | :21:38.
company, the shed has sat empty in their garden for months. One time | :21:38. | :21:43.
they did leave Anne's spare wheelchair in it, this happened. | :21:43. | :21:46.
You couldn't keep anything in there because anything that went in there | :21:46. | :21:49.
just it was damp in no time. Unimpressed with their waterlogged | :21:49. | :21:52.
wooden hut stuck in their garden, Anne and Steve decided to get an | :21:52. | :21:56.
expert opinion. They asked a chartered surveyor to look at the | :21:56. | :22:00.
shed. He said the problems were down to poor workmanship and the | :22:00. | :22:06.
company's suggestion of guttering wasn't the answer. So how bad is | :22:06. | :22:11.
the problem? Well, it was dry the day we visited so I carried out a | :22:11. | :22:19.
little experiment. Within minutes, the water was coming through. Four | :22:19. | :22:22.
months on, the shed that should've been a special place that Steve and | :22:22. | :22:26.
Anne could escape to, has become a waste of space cluttering up their | :22:26. | :22:33.
garden. We'd got so many plans for it in our heads, what a difference | :22:33. | :22:40.
it was going to make and everything has just gone sour. | :22:40. | :22:44.
Well, Highgate Garden Buildings insist this is a one-off complaint. | :22:44. | :22:47.
They say there's nothing wrong with the 'craftsmanship' of the shed - | :22:47. | :22:50.
but since we got in touch, they've finally been out to see the | :22:50. | :22:55.
problems for themselves. And as a gesture of goodwill, they now say | :22:55. | :22:58.
they'll fit some guttering and waterproof it, which should help. | :22:58. | :23:02.
We'll be checking if it does! Now, Rachel's been finding out how | :23:03. | :23:12.
easy it is to leave personal details on your mobile. | :23:12. | :23:16.
If you're one of those people who just has to have the latest phone, | :23:16. | :23:19.
chances are you've got loads of old ones you don't know what do with! | :23:19. | :23:22.
But with 50 million unused mobiles stashed in drawers and cupboards, | :23:22. | :23:29.
more and more of us are selling them second hand. On the internet, | :23:29. | :23:33.
the local high street - and through the classifieds. But to make the | :23:33. | :23:37.
real big bucks, you need to sell one of these a smart phone. That | :23:37. | :23:40.
lets you email, use the internet, do your mobile banking and your | :23:40. | :23:45.
social networking on the go. More than a million of us in Wales now | :23:45. | :23:48.
own a smart phone and here in Cardiff they're big fans. It's | :23:48. | :23:53.
amazing, it's the best thing that ever happened to me. I have an | :23:53. | :23:57.
iPhone 5 so I am happy with that, it does everything. I could survive | :23:57. | :24:04.
without it but not for very long. But - and there's always a "but". | :24:04. | :24:09.
Selling your smart phone could land you in more trouble than it's worth. | :24:09. | :24:14.
You see, smart phones can reveal intimate details about your life. | :24:14. | :24:18.
So if you're going to sell your phone, it's crucial you wipe every | :24:18. | :24:21.
single bit of data off it first. But that's not always as easy as it | :24:21. | :24:27.
sounds. Actually selling a second hand phone is not a big problem, | :24:27. | :24:32.
it's the data that's potentially left on that phone. Jason Hart from | :24:32. | :24:38.
eCrime Wales is an ethical hacker. He's got all the gear to get into | :24:38. | :24:41.
your smart phone. The only problem, criminal hackers can get it too. | :24:41. | :24:43.
There's plenty of applications you can download from the internet | :24:43. | :24:47.
freely available which can harvest that information from a phone. So | :24:47. | :24:50.
we've got special assignment for Jason. OK Jason this is your | :24:50. | :24:55.
mission should you choose to accept it! Now I admit these aren't all my | :24:55. | :24:59.
phones, they belong to the X-Ray team. They've wiped them as if they | :24:59. | :25:05.
were going to sell them. I want to know what's on there. I am very | :25:05. | :25:14.
happy to accept your challenge and probably we'll find some content. | :25:14. | :25:20.
Brilliant, I'll leave you to it. Whilst Jason's busy, let's see how | :25:20. | :25:25.
savvy we are about deleting data from our smart phones. I would | :25:25. | :25:28.
probably make sure it was put back to normal factory settings before | :25:28. | :25:31.
selling it on I mean if I had deleted everything that belonged to | :25:31. | :25:35.
me I don't think it would even matter I assume that if you take | :25:35. | :25:38.
the sim card out it isn't connected anymore so I would sell it onto a | :25:38. | :25:41.
company that recycles it I probably wouldn't have any concern about | :25:41. | :25:47.
that. So they're not too worried - but should they be? Time to see | :25:47. | :25:55.
what Jason's found. So how did you get on? Yeah, absolutely | :25:56. | :25:58.
fascinating, the first three phones we picked up we've managed to find | :25:58. | :26:01.
a substantial amount of data in summary from the three phones | :26:01. | :26:03.
enough data to potentially compromise each of the three | :26:04. | :26:06.
individual's online accounts. those three phones, this Blackberry | :26:06. | :26:08.
was particularly shocking, Jason quickly found enough information to | :26:08. | :26:14.
hack our researcher, Karen's, Twitter account and lots of photos. | :26:14. | :26:20.
Very useful for any identity thief. There is a folder highlighting | :26:20. | :26:23.
their 22nd birthday, from the photos we can determine when the | :26:23. | :26:30.
photo was taken, from that we can work out their date of birth. This | :26:30. | :26:34.
second Blackberry also proved revealing. 26-year-old Carys had | :26:34. | :26:39.
left behind photos, videos and her entire contacts list. Pretty | :26:39. | :26:46.
shocking isn't it? Yes, it is very scary. The data was stored to a | :26:46. | :26:49.
data card so they thought they had deleted the content but in fact all | :26:49. | :26:55.
of the data was still there. lastly, on this iPhone, Jason | :26:55. | :26:57.
accessed owner Colin's Facebook account and could even have spent | :26:57. | :27:03.
his money on a shopping website. amazes me the number of times where | :27:03. | :27:06.
people actually use their mobile phones to store details of their | :27:06. | :27:08.
online accounts so the username, the actual website name itself and | :27:08. | :27:14.
the password! So what's Jason's advice for anyone looking to sell | :27:14. | :27:18.
their phone? They need to delete the information appropriately and | :27:19. | :27:26.
understand where the data is being stored on the phone. And by | :27:26. | :27:29.
following some simple rules, you can stop your details getting into | :27:29. | :27:32.
the wrong hands. Don't save passwords or pin numbers on your | :27:32. | :27:37.
Delete all the data on your handset by restoring factory settings. Take | :27:37. | :27:40.
out and destroy your sim card. And remove additional storage devices | :27:40. | :27:50.
The message I would get across is, would you physically go around with | :27:50. | :27:52.
post it notes and write your personal information your username | :27:52. | :27:55.
and password and stick them around in public places, just be very | :27:55. | :28:02.
sensitive to what you are storing. Some very useful tips there - and | :28:02. | :28:05.
there's more information on our website. And that's it for this | :28:05. | :28:15.
:28:15. | :28:22. |
