Have you been ripped off, conned or just short changed? We're here to | :00:07. | :00:15.
fight for your rights. Spotting the latest scams and making sure you | :00:16. | :00:22.
make the most of your money. I don't return calls or answer letters. You | :00:23. | :00:27.
feel like you've been robbed. Exposing the rogues and confronting | :00:28. | :00:33.
the conmen. We are here to help you fight back. | :00:34. | :00:45.
Tonight, they spent thousands trying to save on their energy bills. All | :00:46. | :00:52.
they got was a hole in the ground. We are actually not saving now. We | :00:53. | :00:57.
are paying double now for nothing. They went to a big-name website to | :00:58. | :01:02.
book their holiday, but the apartment they got wads a scam. When | :01:03. | :01:10.
you go to big companies and expect that really these sort of things | :01:11. | :01:13.
shouldn't happen. The wonder of science - we can finally find out | :01:14. | :01:17.
what goes through Lucy's head when she goes shopping. People just give | :01:18. | :01:23.
up when it gets more complex and they start to estimate. Later, lots | :01:24. | :01:29.
about saving money. I'll be getting the inside track on the tactics | :01:30. | :01:32.
supermarkets use to get you to spend more on your weekly shop. And Rhodri | :01:33. | :01:37.
will be finding out whether you can really save money at pound shops. | :01:38. | :01:41.
But first, a family who tried to save money on their fuel bills and | :01:42. | :01:47.
ended up nearly ?15,000 out of pocket. Rachel's been investigating. | :01:48. | :01:56.
Nantllwyd Hill Farm outside Tregaron. Six generations of the | :01:57. | :02:02.
Jones family have worked the land here. Now it's time for the next | :02:03. | :02:09.
generation, Rhys, Olwen and their young family. The couple are doing | :02:10. | :02:15.
their best to bring this traditional farm into the 21st century, but with | :02:16. | :02:22.
no main electricity it's not easy. They're totally reliant on a diesel | :02:23. | :02:27.
generator. That means the family spends a massive ?8,000 a year on | :02:28. | :02:33.
fuel. After the winter we had, we knew we had to do some, because the | :02:34. | :02:40.
fuel bills were coming in and we had to look for other ways of saving | :02:41. | :02:47.
money. Looking into solar panels, that was the best use for us really. | :02:48. | :02:56.
When they got a call from Swansea-base Clear Energy they | :02:57. | :02:59.
signed up for a big system. The company wanted ?15-500 for -- | :03:00. | :03:07.
?14,500 for the work. Olwen had to take out a loan. How did you feel | :03:08. | :03:12.
about paying out that sort of sum? Were you nervous? Quite excited. I | :03:13. | :03:17.
thought we would save money and we won't are to rely so much on the | :03:18. | :03:23.
fuel company. I thought, yes, we will be saving money. We are doing | :03:24. | :03:28.
the right choice. The bill was paid, but the panels didn't arrive. We | :03:29. | :03:35.
came to a point where I was on the phone with them three or four times | :03:36. | :03:40.
a week. The persist tense paid off. After three months, workmen showed | :03:41. | :03:47.
up. But they didn't stay long. They flattened the ground, as you can | :03:48. | :03:51.
see. They put the cable in. They came here for an hour and a quarter | :03:52. | :03:55.
and flattened ground and then disappeared? Disappeared. How do you | :03:56. | :04:02.
feel about that? I'm annoyed. I feel a fool for trusting this company. | :04:03. | :04:09.
And also we are actually not saving now, we are paying double now for | :04:10. | :04:15.
nothing. We have got no panels, but we still have to pay the finance | :04:16. | :04:19.
every month and we have still got to pay the fuel bill. I want to know | :04:20. | :04:25.
just who Clear Energy are. It seems the company is based on this | :04:26. | :04:30.
industrial estate in Forest Bark in Swansea. And it's run by this man. | :04:31. | :04:38.
John Davies. The offices aren't exactly easy to find. Which is | :04:39. | :04:43.
perhaps not surprise, because they say they ceased all sales activities | :04:44. | :04:48.
last August. They even told staff they were going into liquidation. | :04:49. | :05:00.
That came as a shock to Gwyn Davies. He farms in the hills here. He | :05:01. | :05:06.
played Clear Energy ?3,000 for solar panels in September, after the | :05:07. | :05:11.
company admit they already knew they had financial problems. I didn't | :05:12. | :05:16.
know nothing about that, that they had cash flow problems. We had good | :05:17. | :05:23.
faith and shook hands. Totally wrong. It's totally wrong, what they | :05:24. | :05:30.
done. Back in Tregaron, Olwen and her family are counting the cost of | :05:31. | :05:35.
their encounter with Clear Energy. You are trying your best to balance | :05:36. | :05:39.
life and the finances and everything and making a decision that you think | :05:40. | :05:43.
is going to help your family, it's hard to believe that people can do | :05:44. | :05:49.
that, isn't it? Are you all right. Can you cut? We are building a | :05:50. | :05:57.
future for our kids, including the farm. This is the sixth generation. | :05:58. | :06:04.
I would like to see the kids with the seventh generation here. That is | :06:05. | :06:13.
the future. Life is hard. If you work hard as well. For the company | :06:14. | :06:21.
to do this, it's unfair. They found themselves in a really difficult | :06:22. | :06:24.
situation and Rachel's here with me now. Is the company offering them | :06:25. | :06:29.
anything? Yes. After we wrote to them, they told us they will give | :06:30. | :06:34.
the couple their money back, minus the cost of the ground works. It | :06:35. | :06:39.
sounded fantastic. That was three weeks ago and the couple haven't | :06:40. | :06:42.
heard anything from the company since. Where is the money? It should | :06:43. | :06:50.
be safe. Under the the Renewable Energy Consumer Code it should have | :06:51. | :06:53.
been deposited in a protected bank company. The question is did Clear | :06:54. | :06:57.
Energy do that? That's what the regulators have been trying to find | :06:58. | :07:00.
out since September, but they've had no response from the company. | :07:01. | :07:03.
They've actually now reported them to Trading Standards. You did say in | :07:04. | :07:07.
the fit many that the company seemed to be in financial trouble when they | :07:08. | :07:13.
took money from customers like Gwyn? They have admitted that they | :07:14. | :07:17.
couldn't complete work for 20 customers when they did that. They | :07:18. | :07:20.
haven't said anything about Gwyn's case. What they have said about | :07:21. | :07:24.
another customer is they continue to take money from them because they | :07:25. | :07:27.
have been discussing the sale for some time. Now, they tell us that | :07:28. | :07:31.
their problems are now easing and that everybody will get their solar | :07:32. | :07:36.
panels. They also say that they actually told customers about their | :07:37. | :07:39.
difficulties in October, but many of the customers are telling us they | :07:40. | :07:43.
never saw that letter. What about the people we saw in the film? We | :07:44. | :07:47.
are still working on Gwyn's case, but in the case of Olwen we have had | :07:48. | :07:53.
some success. The finance company, Aldermore have agreed to pay them | :07:54. | :07:57.
back the full ?14,500, so we are thrilled with that news. Excellent. | :07:58. | :08:01.
Thank you very much. If you think you're getting a raw deal, why not | :08:02. | :08:04.
get in touch and see if we can help. You can give us a call: | :08:05. | :08:19.
Still to come - pound stores are all the rage what savvy shoppers, but do | :08:20. | :08:26.
you always get a good deal? It's wet and it is cold. It seems like the | :08:27. | :08:31.
perfect time to start thinking about booking a trip to cheer yourself up. | :08:32. | :08:35.
It might be your summer holiday, or if you're a sports fan, there are | :08:36. | :08:38.
loads of events that you might want to travel to this year. But, | :08:39. | :08:42.
whatever you're planning, you need to watch out if you are booking | :08:43. | :08:51.
on-line. 2014 is definitely turning out to be a bumper year for Welsh | :08:52. | :08:57.
sport. The Six Nations is under way. We've got two football teams | :08:58. | :09:01.
battling it out to stay in the Premier League. And this summer, our | :09:02. | :09:06.
nation's athletes will be going for gold in the 20th Commonwealth Games | :09:07. | :09:12.
in Glasgow. And with all that sporting action, there will be | :09:13. | :09:16.
thousands of fans keen to see their heroes in the flesh. For workmates | :09:17. | :09:21.
Mark and Liz, supporting Swansea City is a big part of their life. I | :09:22. | :09:29.
started going with my father when I was young and I am a season ticket | :09:30. | :09:35.
holder now they're in the Premiership and I live across from | :09:36. | :09:38.
the stadium. We never miss a game if we can help it. We have other | :09:39. | :09:42.
friends who we meet up with before the games. It's a nice way to spend | :09:43. | :09:46.
a Sunday or Saturday afternoon. Mark and Liz had always dreamed of seeing | :09:47. | :09:52.
their beloved Swans play in Europe and after spotting an ad in a local | :09:53. | :09:56.
newspaper, they decided to book a trip with two other workmates to | :09:57. | :10:02.
watch the match in St Gal en in Switzerland. We thought a bit of | :10:03. | :10:06.
shopping and snow at Christmas time and you know, it sounded a very good | :10:07. | :10:16.
trip. The company was called Football Trips.co.uk. It seemed to | :10:17. | :10:20.
be offering a winning deal - return flights with Swissair, transfers to | :10:21. | :10:25.
and from the airport and two nights accommodation, all for just ?220 per | :10:26. | :10:32.
person. What was the company like to deal with? Did you have confidence | :10:33. | :10:36.
in them? They responded to all the e-mails that we sent back and | :10:37. | :10:40.
forward. They were replied to promptly. They dealt with any | :10:41. | :10:44.
inquiries very quickly. Reassured by their business-like approach, Mark | :10:45. | :10:48.
had no worries when it came to paying, sending ?880 via a bank | :10:49. | :10:53.
transfer. The reservations were there. It was just literally a case | :10:54. | :10:58.
of pace up, so I didn't have any hesitation at the time. But, once | :10:59. | :11:02.
the money had left Mark's account things started to go badly wrong. We | :11:03. | :11:09.
had no response to e-mails or phone calls. I would leave a message on | :11:10. | :11:13.
their voicemail. When Mark checked their flight and hotel details, he | :11:14. | :11:17.
realised that none of their money had been passed on by Football | :11:18. | :11:25.
Trips.co.uk. You paid all this money and essentially you had nothing to | :11:26. | :11:29.
do for it? Nothing at all. Just the piece of paper. The reservations had | :11:30. | :11:33.
been made with the hotels and flights, but the payment hadn't been | :11:34. | :11:37.
made. The company appears to have vanished into thin air. The website | :11:38. | :11:43.
is down and their phone number is no longer working. You feel silly | :11:44. | :11:48.
almost that you've been in a position where someone has taken | :11:49. | :11:52.
advantage. We've tried to track down that company, but all of our letters | :11:53. | :11:56.
have been returned unanswered. It seems to be a scam, which shows how | :11:57. | :11:59.
careful you should be before you book a holiday. Even if you use some | :12:00. | :12:03.
of the biggest names in the travel industry, you can still get conned. | :12:04. | :12:07.
More on that later. Next, I've always wanted to know | :12:08. | :12:11.
what goes through Lucy's mind when she's on a shopping trip and thanks | :12:12. | :12:17.
to some hi-tech kit at Bangor University we can find out. We've | :12:18. | :12:25.
all succumbed to the testimonipling offers when do be a -- tempting | :12:26. | :12:32.
offers when doing a supermarket shop. I look at it with interest. Do | :12:33. | :12:36.
you think they are good? Sometimes I think they are and other times you | :12:37. | :12:41.
can tell they're not really. Now, scientists at Bangor University have | :12:42. | :12:46.
decided to find out what makes us go for certain offers over others. I'm | :12:47. | :12:52.
the guinea pig and this is where I'm going. This is a scanner, similar to | :12:53. | :12:59.
one in a hospital. We use it in psychology to research the brain and | :13:00. | :13:02.
how it works. What are Paul and his team of scientists going to be | :13:03. | :13:05.
looking for when I go into the scanner? We are going to look at | :13:06. | :13:09.
what part of the brain is involved when you are making a decision about | :13:10. | :13:13.
purchasing. I'm going to be asked to imagine I'm shopping for a party. I | :13:14. | :13:17.
have to save as much money as possible. I'll see a mixture of good | :13:18. | :13:22.
and bad offers and then make a choice. But how have other people | :13:23. | :13:27.
got on? People really prefer clear price discount. When you are being | :13:28. | :13:31.
told save 20% or 20 pence, people like that much more than buy one and | :13:32. | :13:37.
get one free or two for one. Some people think they're switched on and | :13:38. | :13:39.
they come in telling us that they always pick the best offers and save | :13:40. | :13:44.
the most money. We see from their shopping efficiency scores that | :13:45. | :13:47.
they're not maybe as good as they think they might be. Oh, dear, I | :13:48. | :13:52.
think I'm quite savvy, but I wonder what they'll find in my brain? As | :13:53. | :13:58.
the deals are flashed up on a screen in front of me, the scientists | :13:59. | :14:03.
analyse what's going on inside my head. The tests go on for over half | :14:04. | :14:09.
an hour to simulate a long shopping trip. So, the result are in. Helen, | :14:10. | :14:16.
I'm hoping I didn't make too many terrible choices. No, you actually | :14:17. | :14:22.
did very well. You did better than most of our participates actually, | :14:23. | :14:27.
so you selected over 90% of good offers. Where you got caught out was | :14:28. | :14:32.
with the more complex multi-buys. The orange marks the areas where my | :14:33. | :14:37.
brain is most active. What we are seeing is the regions involved in | :14:38. | :14:41.
mental calculations are less active the more complex the offer. That's | :14:42. | :14:44.
really interesting, because I felt I was working harder trying to | :14:45. | :14:48.
understand those more complicated offers, but obviously my brain | :14:49. | :14:52.
wasn't. This is what we find, people just give up when the offer gets | :14:53. | :14:56.
more complex. The supermarkets and big brands are spending a fortune on | :14:57. | :15:02.
research like this and they are using it to design offers they think | :15:03. | :15:06.
you'll go for. Can you avoid things like this and make sure you get a | :15:07. | :15:10.
genuinely good deal when you're out shopping? Caroline Bowman is a | :15:11. | :15:15.
consumer psychologist. It was definitely the more simple deals | :15:16. | :15:18.
that appealed to me. Is that the same for everyone? Yes, it is. | :15:19. | :15:23.
That's the smart thing for someone to do. When the offer is really | :15:24. | :15:28.
simple it's quite clear how much money you might be saving. There | :15:29. | :15:31.
were times when I was definitely just guessing with the more | :15:32. | :15:35.
complicated offers and may have been kouT out. There -- caught out. Are | :15:36. | :15:41.
there any ways to watch that? You probably have a smartphone in your | :15:42. | :15:46.
back pocket or handbag, so pull it out and use the calculator. Is there | :15:47. | :15:51.
anyway to avoid getting caught out? There are several things to protect | :15:52. | :15:55.
ourselves from dodgy deals. One, make a list and stick to that list. | :15:56. | :16:01.
If you're worried that you're guessing, use a calculator. Take | :16:02. | :16:06.
cash rather than your card then you can't overspend. Thank you. | :16:07. | :16:11.
Now, many of us are seduced by glamorous brands, but just because | :16:12. | :16:14.
something has a slick image doesn't mean you won't have problems. | :16:15. | :16:26.
It sounded like an explosion and it shattered everywhere. It must have | :16:27. | :16:35.
just gone boom. A shower of glass over the entire kitchen. When Vicky | :16:36. | :16:44.
Brown saw the apartments in Bury Port she knew she would love living | :16:45. | :16:51.
here. It's right by the beach on the harbour and it's the first | :16:52. | :16:54.
development here in my lifetime and I'm over 60 now, so it was a | :16:55. | :17:00.
wonderful opportunity. I'm from Llanelli, so it's lovely to be able | :17:01. | :17:04.
to come back and enjoy the beautiful scenery. It is a wonderful | :17:05. | :17:07.
community, because everybody moved in roughly the same time. The | :17:08. | :17:13.
glamorous brands in the kitchen were a major selling point. | :17:14. | :17:17.
The house came complete with Smeg appliances. A company that sells | :17:18. | :17:26.
itself on its high-end products. Smeg is a well-known brand and when | :17:27. | :17:30.
we bought it from the developer the fact that they were quality products | :17:31. | :17:34.
in the kitchen was definitely a selling point. But in August last | :17:35. | :17:41.
year something totally unexpected happened. A friend was here cleaning | :17:42. | :17:49.
for me and he it totally finished and he thought he would polish the | :17:50. | :17:55.
oven door and he wiped it and the yuT door glass totally shattered. | :17:56. | :17:59.
The whole floor was covered in glass and even weeks later you are still | :18:00. | :18:02.
finding little bits of glass everywhere. Vicky immediately phoned | :18:03. | :18:06.
Smeg, who said there was no fault with the built-in oven and to get it | :18:07. | :18:12.
fixed she would need to pay for an engineer to come and replace the | :18:13. | :18:17.
glass. What was their response? Did they say no, it's four years old and | :18:18. | :18:21.
there's nothing they could do? They said it's out of warantee. They | :18:22. | :18:25.
weren't at all interested in the safety aspect, or in fact it was | :18:26. | :18:33.
supposedly is a high-quality brand. News of Vicky's oven door exploding | :18:34. | :18:40.
ban to -- began to spread and soon others began telling of their | :18:41. | :18:44.
experiences. Kate owns a holiday home a few doors away. I was | :18:45. | :18:47.
upstairs changing beds and everything and my husband, because I | :18:48. | :18:51.
was running late, was trying to help me out by cleaning the cooker for | :18:52. | :18:55.
me, which he had just about done and as he went to close the door it just | :18:56. | :19:00.
exploded. I came running down the stairs. I ran into the kitchen and | :19:01. | :19:05.
there was just glass everywhere. It looked like hailstones. It was all | :19:06. | :19:08.
over the work service, in the sink, in the toaster. Later on, we even | :19:09. | :19:12.
found a bit in the kettle. There would have been a toddler in the | :19:13. | :19:17.
kitchen and it could have taken an eye out. At least three other homes | :19:18. | :19:20.
on the development have had the same problem and we found pictures of yet | :19:21. | :19:24.
more cases on the internet. I'm going to show you this photograph we | :19:25. | :19:29.
found on-line of a very similar o veshingS n with a similar -- oven | :19:30. | :19:33.
with a similar problem. It looks like they had the same sort of | :19:34. | :19:37.
explosion. Exactly the same one. Yes, looking at the controls, it's | :19:38. | :19:41.
identical to mine. There's no mention on Smeg's website of there | :19:42. | :19:47.
being any problems with this model. Nearly all of those affected on the | :19:48. | :19:52.
estate contacted Smeg as soon as the glass smashed, but just like Vicky, | :19:53. | :19:55.
the company said there was nothing they could do and they would have to | :19:56. | :20:00.
get in touch with an engineer to fix the glass. Each of them had to pay | :20:01. | :20:05.
up to ?150 to get the glass fixed. I still feel concerned about the | :20:06. | :20:11.
cooker, because I paid for this. It happened to me when it was cold, but | :20:12. | :20:14.
it's possible it maybe would happen when it's hot, so hot bits of glass | :20:15. | :20:19.
flying around seems to me to be dangerous. Well, Smeg have now | :20:20. | :20:22.
admitted that there was a problem with the hinges on the doors which | :20:23. | :20:26.
could have caused the glass to shatter. They've now changed the | :20:27. | :20:29.
design. They also say that the doors are made of safety glass, so there | :20:30. | :20:34.
was no risk of injury, but they have now agreed to pay back the cost of | :20:35. | :20:38.
repairing the doors to all the people we have told them about. | :20:39. | :20:42.
Pound shops are booming, because they seem to offer good deals. | :20:43. | :20:48.
Everything for just ?1. But how good are the deals? We have come to | :20:49. | :20:52.
Newport, the bargain shop capital of Wales to see how savvy shoppers are | :20:53. | :20:57.
in spotting a great deal from a not so great deal. We have cliff, Tasha | :20:58. | :21:05.
and Kerry. Good to see you, from Newport Pantomime Society. Pound | :21:06. | :21:13.
shops, are you fans? Oh, yeah. Yeah, always get a good. Top brands. Can | :21:14. | :21:19.
you top them? I've got a quiz for you. We bought some Heinz tomato | :21:20. | :21:26.
soup. Where do you three think you get the best deal, supermarket or | :21:27. | :21:30.
pound shop? The pound shop. Supermarket. Definitely pound shop. | :21:31. | :21:35.
The supermarket price was 74 pence for the can. In the pound shop you | :21:36. | :21:40.
get two for a pound, which is 50 pence. Good value. Yes. You're | :21:41. | :21:46.
right. The first one, the pound shop wins. Next up, medium Warburton | :21:47. | :21:51.
loaves. Cliff, where's the best deal? Pound shop. The pound shop. | :21:52. | :21:58.
Two against one. What will you go for? Supermarket. Well, the answer | :21:59. | :22:04.
is they were a pound each in the supermarket and the pound shop, | :22:05. | :22:07.
however, if you look carefully you will see that the pound shop bread | :22:08. | :22:11.
is just 600 grammes. The supermarket one is 800 grammes. That's 30% extra | :22:12. | :22:16.
there. It pays to look at the weight. There is an extra sandwich | :22:17. | :22:20.
in there. On this occasion, supermarket wins. Next, this one is | :22:21. | :22:25.
more complicated, it's the closest match we could get. A box of 76 | :22:26. | :22:34.
one-cup tea bags or a bag of 80 from the supermarket. Which is the best? | :22:35. | :22:37.
Supermarket. Supermarket. Because they can offer better deals. I'm | :22:38. | :22:41.
going with the pound shop. The pound shop box of 76 tea bags costs ?1. | :22:42. | :22:47.
The bag of 80 from the supermarket, wait for this, double the price, ?2. | :22:48. | :22:53.
But the bags in the pound box are a lot smaller, so gramme for gramme, | :22:54. | :22:58.
pound shop still the cheapest. There we are. We won. Finally, washingup | :22:59. | :23:05.
liquid. What do you think of this here in front of you, supermarket or | :23:06. | :23:09.
pound shop? Definitely pound shop. I'm going for the pound shop. Me | :23:10. | :23:16.
too. Well, we found these on offer at the supermarket, two for ?2. This | :23:17. | :23:21.
from the pound shop, ?1. It's a draw. Or is it? Because if you | :23:22. | :23:25.
notice, these two at the back from the supermarket are bigger. Guys, | :23:26. | :23:32.
you're all wrong. It's a win for the supermarket and it's worth checking | :23:33. | :23:38.
out the offers. It sure is. Some good deals there at the pound store, | :23:39. | :23:41.
but if you look around and check for offers you can beat them at t | :23:42. | :23:45.
supermarkets. We have been looking at branded product here. If you go | :23:46. | :23:49.
for bargain basement lines you could get everything here for as little as | :23:50. | :23:56.
?1.41 from the supermarket. Now, earlier in the programme we told you | :23:57. | :24:00.
about some Swansea fans who lost hundreds of pounds booking a holiday | :24:01. | :24:04.
on a scam website, but it seems even if you go for a big-name website you | :24:05. | :24:09.
can still lose out. Lucy's been investigating. | :24:10. | :24:16.
The countdown is on for the Commonwealth Games in July, when | :24:17. | :24:21.
some of the world's best athletes will be going for gold. And | :24:22. | :24:27.
sports-loving Swansea GP Chris Johns was hoping to grab a piece of that | :24:28. | :24:36.
winning atmosphere. We went to the Games at 2012 as a family and we are | :24:37. | :24:40.
enthusiastic about going to the Glasgow Games. Chris snapped up for | :24:41. | :24:45.
the athletics, boxing and squash. And then sprinted to the UK's | :24:46. | :24:49.
leading hotel booking site, Late Rooms. It was a site that I've been | :24:50. | :24:56.
to and looked at and booked with before. They are well recognised. | :24:57. | :25:01.
One would expect them to be no problem to book with. Chris spotted | :25:02. | :25:06.
a great two-bedroom place called the Dysart Apartments and decided to go | :25:07. | :25:11.
for it. It was just what we were after. A self-catering apartment | :25:12. | :25:16.
block, somewhere we would use as a base for travelling out to the | :25:17. | :25:20.
different events. It turned out to be ?300 for two nights, which I was | :25:21. | :25:24.
more than prepared to pay for the three of us going up. But Chris | :25:25. | :25:32.
would soon find himself crashing out of his Commonwealth dream. Just | :25:33. | :25:38.
weeks after making the booking, Late Rooms contacted him with some | :25:39. | :25:45.
disturbing news. We found out that there was fraudulent activity and in | :25:46. | :25:49.
fact there was no such thing as Dysart Apartments and that there was | :25:50. | :25:53.
a problem with our booking. We had done some digging and it turns out | :25:54. | :25:57.
that the apartment weren't quite what they seemed. These are some of | :25:58. | :26:01.
the images that Chris saw when he was booking the apartment on Late | :26:02. | :26:05.
Rooms. And this one in particular caught our eye, because this is | :26:06. | :26:10.
actually a pretty famous building in Glasgow. It's called the Beresford | :26:11. | :26:15.
and it's situationed slap, bang in the city centre on the famous | :26:16. | :26:18.
Sauchiehall Street. That is more than two miles away from the address | :26:19. | :26:22.
the apartment claimed to be at on the Late Rooms website. Why didn't | :26:23. | :26:31.
Late Rooms, which is part of TUI, realise something wasn't right when | :26:32. | :26:35.
the Dysart Apartments put these photographs on-line? You would | :26:36. | :26:40.
expect that if they put a hotel or apartment on their website that they | :26:41. | :26:44.
would have done a level of vetting to make sure that the company that | :26:45. | :26:49.
they are dealing with is robust and not fraudulent. It is quite clear in | :26:50. | :26:54.
this case that hasn't happened. And what is worse, when Chris checked | :26:55. | :26:59.
his credit card statement he had got a nasty surprise. ?298 had been | :27:00. | :27:06.
taken out of the account by die certificate apartments. -- Dysart | :27:07. | :27:12.
Apartments. Chris has given up on his Commonwealth Games journey. | :27:13. | :27:17.
Butle legacy that Late Rooms has left with stay with Chris for many | :27:18. | :27:23.
years to come. -- but the legacy that Late Rooms has left will stay | :27:24. | :27:26.
with Chris for many years to come. You go to big companies and you | :27:27. | :27:30.
expect that these sort of things shouldn't happen. Well, Late Rooms | :27:31. | :27:34.
say they do make stringent checks before taking a property on, but | :27:35. | :27:36.
this one got through the net and they are looking at ways to tighten | :27:37. | :27:42.
procedures, but they aren't going to offer any compensation -- they are | :27:43. | :27:50.
going -- they aren't going to offer any compensation, but luckily Chris | :27:51. | :27:53.
got his money back through his credit card. We look at counterfeit | :27:54. | :27:58.
goods. Are they the real thing? They are. They are made by Converse? Yes. | :27:59. | :28:04.
Until then, if there's anything you want us to help with, you can give | :28:05. | :28:05.
