This is Crimewatch Roadshow. We are back, live, every weekday for the | :00:12. | :00:17.
next four weeks. Crimes the police need your help to solve. The kind | :00:17. | :00:27.
:00:27. | :00:45. | ||
of crimes which could be happening Hello, welcome to a new series of | :00:45. | :00:48.
Crimewatch Roadshow. I am Rav Wilding. Over the next four weeks | :00:48. | :00:51.
we are going to be asking for your help to put criminals where they | :00:51. | :00:56.
belong, behind bars. We are live every weekday morning and we will | :00:56. | :00:59.
be tackling burglaries, scams, vandalism and car crime, the kind | :00:59. | :01:03.
of offences that affect all of us. I have worked as a police officer | :01:03. | :01:06.
so I know that you're calls will really make a difference. We are | :01:06. | :01:09.
ready to take all calls and the numbers are on your screen now. | :01:09. | :01:16.
Coming up today: We want your help to find the men who terrorised a | :01:16. | :01:23.
Morecambe woman in her Rome home. - - her own home. The attack was so | :01:23. | :01:28.
violent that they smashed their way inside, leaving her terrified. A | :01:28. | :01:32.
fight on Blackpool promenade in the early hours of the morning. We need | :01:32. | :01:36.
to find the culprits. And a busy night out for the police in Preston. | :01:36. | :01:40.
We find out just what challenges they face on a typical Saturday | :01:40. | :01:47.
night. Stop resisting! Calm down. All month we will be live from | :01:48. | :01:52.
around the country. We are kicking of the series in the north-west of | :01:52. | :01:57.
England in Lancashire. Joining me on the road is Dave Guest. You are | :01:57. | :02:00.
a Crimewatch Roadshow veteran and you have reported for us for four | :02:00. | :02:09.
years. Where right you today? Rav. I hope you don't mind me | :02:09. | :02:13.
saying that you are an old hand as well. It's a bit breezy, but it is | :02:13. | :02:16.
looking as beautiful as ever in Morecambe. We're going to be | :02:16. | :02:19.
working with Lancashire Constabulary and Merseyside police. | :02:19. | :02:24.
I have been joined by Jacey Normand. She is down there somewhere. We | :02:24. | :02:29.
know this patch well, don't we? certainly do. I've been reporting | :02:29. | :02:33.
for the BBC in the north-west for seven years. There is plenty going | :02:33. | :02:37.
on. We have been on the front line with the police using equipment | :02:37. | :02:42.
like this. It is time to get on with things now. The first crime we | :02:42. | :02:46.
need your help in solving today happened in more can just about a | :02:46. | :02:50.
month ago. We should all feel perfectly safe and secure in our | :02:50. | :02:55.
own homes. But one woman has been left traumatised by a terrifying | :02:55. | :02:59.
experience that she had been her around home while her husband was | :02:59. | :03:03.
on a night out. Wednesday is Andy Monk's regular night out with their | :03:03. | :03:09.
friend. While he was enjoying a few pints in his local... His wife was | :03:09. | :03:19.
:03:19. | :03:20. | ||
facing a terrifying ordeal back at You can't actually believe what you | :03:20. | :03:26.
are listening to. You can hear your wife screaming like crazy. This one | :03:26. | :03:30.
an axe at her. Fortunately, she ducked and it missed. Otherwise I | :03:30. | :03:33.
would be coming back with no wife. These two men had only one | :03:33. | :03:38.
intention, to force their way into this suburban home and not let | :03:38. | :03:41.
anything or anyone stand in their way. I thought, somebody has come | :03:41. | :03:51.
:03:51. | :03:52. | ||
to murder me. It is 8.55 and Kim is settling down to watch her | :03:52. | :03:56.
favourite programme on TV. She works as a cleaner and suffers from | :03:56. | :04:03.
poor health. Right, I'm off. husband, a semi-retired taxi-driver, | :04:03. | :04:06.
looks forward to his regular Wednesday night out. He heads off | :04:06. | :04:10.
just before 9 o'clock, leaving his wife on her around in the house. | :04:10. | :04:14.
was quite relaxed. I was with a friend by sea once a week. I had | :04:14. | :04:19.
three or four points. This couple have no idea that a burglary has | :04:19. | :04:22.
been meticulously planned and back two dangerous and armed men are on | :04:22. | :04:26.
their way. I was just turning the page and then it went into | :04:26. | :04:31.
something else. The two masked men arrived at the house with one thing | :04:31. | :04:36.
on their mind. Getting inside under any means necessary. After knocking | :04:36. | :04:43.
out the exterior light, they begin kicking at the door. I heard an | :04:43. | :04:47.
almighty bang. What is that? They kicked the door so hard that it | :04:47. | :04:51.
literally flies off its hinges and comes crashing to the floor. The | :04:51. | :04:57.
bend into the house with an axe and crowbar. Kim runs into a hallway | :04:57. | :05:02.
and is faced with her worst nightmare. Disbelief. I saw this | :05:02. | :05:07.
great danger, the blackness, I thought, they are fully in black. I | :05:07. | :05:10.
thought, somebody has come to murder me. It was really on their | :05:10. | :05:15.
mind to get me. Terrified for her life, she runs back into the living | :05:15. | :05:25.
room. Using an axe, the man smashes pieces out of the door, and as Kim | :05:25. | :05:35.
:05:35. | :05:35. | ||
tries to keep it shut. Finally, she is overpowered. They burst in, I | :05:35. | :05:42.
turned to jelly. I immediately just put my palms up. A real stay-away | :05:42. | :05:46.
position. Then, something unexpected happens. The man with | :05:46. | :05:52.
the axe takes his mask off, fully revealing his face. The hair was | :05:52. | :05:55.
flattened. He said, I'm not going to hurt you. I want to know where | :05:56. | :06:00.
you keep your money. And not going to hurt you. I want to know where | :06:00. | :06:05.
the money is. He didn't K -- stay calm for long. Tell us whether | :06:05. | :06:10.
money is! The tone suddenly becomes very angry. Tell us how to get in | :06:10. | :06:18.
the safe. You know exactly what is in there. But Kim did not actually | :06:18. | :06:23.
know how to get in. I said, I really don't know, I can't tell you. | :06:23. | :06:27.
There is no way, I thought he is definitely going to hammer me on | :06:27. | :06:33.
the head. Completely unaware of a horror happening in his own home, | :06:33. | :06:42.
Andy is about to receive the worst A truly horrific experience. We | :06:42. | :06:46.
will have more on that story and discover what happened to Kim next | :06:46. | :06:51.
later in the programme. Now back to Rav, with the first wanted faces of | :06:51. | :06:55.
the series. We are kicking off with this man. | :06:55. | :07:01.
He was due to appear before Preston Crown Court on two counts of | :07:01. | :07:06.
wounding in August 2001. He did not turn up and has not been seen since. | :07:06. | :07:10.
He was born in Kosovo but is known to have a connection with the | :07:10. | :07:15.
Blackburn, Liverpool, Bristol and London areas. | :07:15. | :07:21.
Joseph McCallister, detectives in Cleveland want to talk to him about | :07:21. | :07:24.
criminal damage and arson with intent to danger of life. He's | :07:24. | :07:27.
known to have connections in the north-east, the Midlands and Luton. | :07:28. | :07:33.
He has a scar above his left eye and another two on his neck. | :07:33. | :07:40.
This lady is Dan Dan Shi. She was sentenced to 10 years for | :07:40. | :07:44.
conspiracy to commit robbery. She absconded before she could be | :07:44. | :07:47.
jailed. She has connections to the Newcastle and Birmingham area. | :07:47. | :07:51.
Detectives believe she could be anywhere in the country. If you | :07:51. | :07:56.
know where she is, let us know. Do you recognise this 25-year-old, | :07:56. | :08:01.
John Ashworth? He was Taj with actual bodily harm, theft and | :08:01. | :08:04.
offences under the Protection From Harassment Act. He failed to appear | :08:04. | :08:08.
in court. He has a North West accent and two scars, one on the | :08:08. | :08:12.
left of his chin and one on his 4 on. He has a tribal design tattooed | :08:12. | :08:22.
:08:22. | :08:36. | ||
Don't forget, all of the wanted faces are also on the website. | :08:36. | :08:42.
Jacey, what have you got for us? This is the path Try report on for | :08:42. | :08:47.
the BBC. Crime reporting is very much part of that work. Here is | :08:47. | :08:50.
something to give you a flavour of our area and a look at what is | :08:50. | :08:55.
coming up for the rest of the week. Welcome to the varied and vast | :08:55. | :08:59.
region of the north-west of England, from the rugged Lancashire | :08:59. | :09:04.
landscape... To Metropolitan Mersey side, police forces face some | :09:04. | :09:11.
unique and challenging issues. For the next week we will be following | :09:11. | :09:16.
Lancashire Constabulary on high- impact raids. Wow, that is a | :09:16. | :09:21.
serious cannabis farm. And we will be with Merseyside Police on the | :09:21. | :09:30.
front line as they tackle the worn Through the day-to-day demands of | :09:30. | :09:36.
antisocial behaviour... Stop resisting! Lancashire is a diverse | :09:37. | :09:41.
region, home to about 1.5 million people. It is one of the safest | :09:41. | :09:44.
places to live in the country, with a police force ranked among the | :09:44. | :09:49.
best. But with several football clubs, the police are regularly | :09:49. | :09:55.
tested, especially when teams and their fans face relegation. It is a | :09:55. | :09:58.
big operation, a big commitment for Lancashire police. The last match | :09:58. | :10:01.
of the season, there is a lot to play for one that changes the | :10:02. | :10:07.
policing operation. Policing the same sized population as their | :10:07. | :10:12.
neighbours across the border, but just a 5th of the area, the force | :10:12. | :10:15.
face the issues of a metropolitan centre. In recent months we have | :10:15. | :10:21.
seen a dramatic increase in the use of scrambler bikes in firearms | :10:21. | :10:25.
offences. Defenders have travelled to and from the scenes of crime on | :10:25. | :10:30.
the back of these vehicles. -- the offenders. Merseyside and | :10:30. | :10:35.
Lancashire have issues with gun crime. We will be looking at how | :10:35. | :10:38.
the unique multi agency approach is producing results. | :10:38. | :10:43.
We will be working with Merseyside and Lancashire forces to help | :10:43. | :10:53.
:10:53. | :10:56. | ||
We will be needing your help. So, do you have the clues that could | :10:56. | :11:06.
That all looks good. Time for some CCTV. Have a good look at these | :11:06. | :11:10.
crooks. All of them have been caught on camera. | :11:10. | :11:15.
Two men arrive in central London, February of this year in what a | :11:15. | :11:20.
manner. They stand by a pill and look like they are chatting. Look | :11:20. | :11:24.
for the nifty footwork. The bike is being passed from one to another | :11:24. | :11:27.
and then shoved along until it is far enough away from its owner for | :11:27. | :11:34.
the thieves to pick it up and make off with it. If you know these TVs, | :11:34. | :11:43.
give them the boot. -- thieves. Uxbridge Library in Middlesex, | :11:43. | :11:47.
November last year. This student needs a break from his studies. But | :11:47. | :11:52.
who is this? Another student? She is certainly studying the room | :11:52. | :11:56.
carefully. After a leisurely move around, she is showing a keen | :11:56. | :12:01.
interest in the other student's desk. It becomes clear she is not | :12:01. | :12:06.
here to study. She picks up his rucksack and heads off. Let's throw | :12:06. | :12:13.
the book at this thing. If you know who she is, give us a call. -- | :12:13. | :12:18.
Thief. Waltham Cross in Hertfordshire. It | :12:18. | :12:23.
is August, last year. This man is trying on the jacket. He likes it | :12:23. | :12:30.
so much that he gets the trousers as well. Suits you, sir. Paying for | :12:30. | :12:36.
it does not suit him. He just walks straight out of the door. If you | :12:36. | :12:40.
recognise this smartly-dressed gentleman, get in touch. | :12:40. | :12:50.
:12:50. | :12:57. | ||
Well, if you recognise anything, Come on, it is day one. Show us | :12:57. | :13:00.
what you're made off and get in touch. Still to come on the | :13:00. | :13:06.
programme this morning: We meet the man who ended up with a fractured | :13:06. | :13:12.
skull following a fight on Blackpool promenade. A lively night | :13:12. | :13:19.
in Preston. But the handcuffs are out. And find out how a husband | :13:19. | :13:29.
:13:29. | :13:30. | ||
reacts when he discovers his wife This is the 4th year Crimewatch | :13:30. | :13:32.
Roadshow has been on air, asking for your help to catch criminals. | :13:32. | :13:36.
And we do get results. Here are three of the cases we featured last | :13:36. | :13:41.
year, where the offenders have been brought to book. The face of a | :13:41. | :13:45.
dangerous man. A convicted rapist who had been on the run for four | :13:45. | :13:48.
years. Detectives in a report want your | :13:48. | :13:52.
help in finding this man. Within hours of his face appearing on | :13:52. | :13:56.
Crimewatch Roadshow, detectives had tracked him down to a cafe in | :13:56. | :13:59.
London. We received some excellent information from members of the | :13:59. | :14:04.
public. That enabled me to co- ordinate a response with the | :14:04. | :14:07.
Metropolitan Police and they arrested the man. Within days of | :14:07. | :14:10.
appearing on a programme, he was starting an eight-year sentence. | :14:10. | :14:13.
You're calls really do make a difference, especially to the | :14:14. | :14:18.
victims. People think it is just a television show and it is just | :14:18. | :14:21.
there for entertainment. But it does affect people's lives and | :14:21. | :14:26.
helps them to move on. And went police put secret cameras into a | :14:26. | :14:30.
special card to fill anybody trying to break-in. We showed these | :14:30. | :14:40.
:14:40. | :14:40. | ||
pictures and you help identify him. You may remember this crime we | :14:40. | :14:45.
feature - a gang broke into this home in Salford, Greater Manchester, | :14:45. | :14:53.
and try to steal a brand new car but the victim was not taking it | :14:53. | :14:59.
lying down. Despite being completely naked, he tackled the | :14:59. | :15:03.
men and stopped them stealing his prized possession. This man was | :15:03. | :15:09.
arrested for his part in the crime. He is now behind bars serving a | :15:09. | :15:13.
five-year sentence for aggravated burglary. We have had a great | :15:13. | :15:18.
record of getting results, so let's make sure this year is no exception, | :15:18. | :15:26.
but for now back to Morecambe Bay. It is a quiet Monday morning here, | :15:26. | :15:31.
but it has been a very busy weekend in town and city centres across the | :15:31. | :15:37.
UK. Preston is typical of many, were alcohol-related incidents keep | :15:37. | :15:41.
the police busy. We joined Operation Nightsafe to witness a | :15:41. | :15:50.
typical Saturday night. It is 9 o'clock on Saturday night at | :15:50. | :15:55.
Lancashire Police HQ, and this Sergeant is briefing his team | :15:55. | :15:59.
before they hit the streets of Preston. It is a team which | :15:59. | :16:08.
includes officers from environmental health and licensing. | :16:08. | :16:12.
Tonight we will be focusing on the most vulnerable. People who have | :16:12. | :16:18.
had too much alcohol... The few come back tonight you will be | :16:18. | :16:25.
arrested. Potential victims of robbery and violent crime... He is | :16:25. | :16:32.
not even responding. Ready to go at 10 o'clock. The first stop for the | :16:32. | :16:36.
licensing and environmental health officers is a routine inspection of | :16:36. | :16:45.
a cafe, where unusually smoking illegal flavoured tobacco is | :16:45. | :16:54.
allowed on strict conditions. the owner has been arrested for smoking | :16:54. | :17:00.
in areas where it is not allow old. Carrying out a routine inspection | :17:00. | :17:07.
is easier said than done. The have the power of entry but we will | :17:07. | :17:11.
liaise with the police to get in. Further investigation will have to | :17:11. | :17:18.
wait until an application for a warrant is made. It is not long | :17:18. | :17:24.
past 10 o'clock and the trouble is brewing outside a takeaway in town. | :17:24. | :17:29.
He has had a drink of ready and he is showing he is up for a bit of a | :17:29. | :17:37.
fight. It is because you have had alcohol, | :17:37. | :17:43.
you have been involved in a fight. This power enable us us to remove | :17:43. | :17:48.
him from the city centre and make sure he doesn't get in any trouble. | :17:48. | :17:54.
A section 27 is one tool the police used to make sure a boisterous | :17:54. | :17:59.
night does not turn into a brawl. Another it is a hi-tech machine | :17:59. | :18:06.
that keeps pubs and clubs safer, a knife Raj which detects metal. | :18:06. | :18:11.
has two functions, one is to check for knives and other dangerous | :18:11. | :18:15.
items people might have. We have found in the past knuckle-dusters | :18:15. | :18:20.
and knives, drugs. Secondly it can interact with the public, and if | :18:20. | :18:24.
they have been drinking too much and might be a perpetrator of crime, | :18:24. | :18:29.
we can remove them from the town centre. But there is no stopping | :18:29. | :18:39.
some people from getting into a spot of bother. This young lady has | :18:39. | :18:44.
thrown some keys, accidentally hit the officer, she has been spoken to. | :18:44. | :18:49.
She is quite drunk, wouldn't listen to the advice she was given, thrown | :18:49. | :18:54.
the keys again and been arrested. Instead of taking the officer's | :18:54. | :19:01.
advice, this young woman will be spending the night in a police cell. | :19:01. | :19:07.
Of her property will be taken off her. Probably end up with a fixed | :19:07. | :19:11.
penalty ticket for being drunk and disorderly. Police officers will be | :19:12. | :19:19.
on the street for anything up to an hour -- off the street. It is | :19:19. | :19:25.
nearly 1 o'clock in the morning. 11 prison cells have prisoners in them, | :19:25. | :19:31.
five of those are drunk and disorderly. The night is young. | :19:31. | :19:36.
Back in town things are starting to get busier. A Christian | :19:36. | :19:41.
organisation that helps vulnerable young people, the street pastors, | :19:41. | :19:47.
do anything from offering snacks to getting revellers home safely when | :19:47. | :19:53.
they are worse for wear. This man is in need of help. They have no | :19:53. | :20:03.
:20:03. | :20:06. | ||
idea what has happened to him. on to me. Come on then. He may have | :20:06. | :20:14.
been assaulted, he could be gravely ill. He is losing consciousness and | :20:14. | :20:19.
this is a cause for serious concern. He is just one of the serious cases | :20:19. | :20:25.
officers will have to deal with as the night goes on. We will find out | :20:25. | :20:32.
what happens to that man later. These days, policing is a high-tech | :20:32. | :20:36.
business and the gadgets officers have got available to them are | :20:36. | :20:44.
getting more sophisticated. We are joined now by Sergeant Andy weather, | :20:44. | :20:50.
and he has a nifty finger printing gadget. This is a mobile | :20:50. | :20:54.
fingerprinting device which we can use on the streets, when we are | :20:54. | :20:59.
unsure of who people are or if we think they might be lying about | :20:59. | :21:06.
their details. The first thing that strikes me is how small it is. It | :21:06. | :21:12.
is like a mobile phone, it is tiny. It is a smartphone which allows us | :21:12. | :21:19.
to send a fingerprint image off without saving or recording it. | :21:19. | :21:23.
give a scenario, you could have someone stopped at the side of the | :21:23. | :21:28.
road who has given you details, who you think might be false. You can | :21:28. | :21:33.
get this machine out and test them there and then on the street. How | :21:33. | :21:41.
long would it take for an answer to get back? 10-15 seconds, and that | :21:41. | :21:46.
is if the suspect hasn't changed his mind about giving false details. | :21:46. | :21:52.
Just getting this device out from your car would be enough to | :21:52. | :21:59.
persuade someone to give their real details, as you say. There will be | :21:59. | :22:02.
a people out there who think this is intrusive, randomly | :22:02. | :22:08.
fingerprinting people. That is not the case, it is it? No, an offence | :22:08. | :22:13.
must have been committed, the device does not store any | :22:13. | :22:17.
information, it is not recorded. It is just about making sure, when | :22:17. | :22:24.
dealing with people, we know who they are. Is it a lengthy process? | :22:24. | :22:31.
A know, just give me your index finger. For I think we can see that. | :22:31. | :22:37.
That is my fingerprint. The same with the left finger. You can see | :22:37. | :22:45.
that coming up. That is fine. It has those two images and since | :22:46. | :22:52.
those to the phone itself. We have the images, then they get sent off | :22:52. | :22:57.
in about 15 seconds. That will not work for real in here because of | :22:57. | :23:02.
our studio, you can't get the signal, but on the street it would | :23:02. | :23:07.
be up to 15 seconds. You must have some success stories already? | :23:07. | :23:12.
devices are being rolled out across the east Midlands as we speak, and | :23:12. | :23:22.
:23:22. | :23:23. | ||
on a daily basis we are getting a lot more hits and keeping people | :23:23. | :23:29.
off the street because there are a lot more arrests taking place. | :23:29. | :23:33.
finding people who are actually wanted. In a recent case a beggar | :23:33. | :23:39.
was discovered as being wanted for a murder in Spain. Stories like | :23:39. | :23:45.
that are turning the tide for us. A for now, let's go back to | :23:45. | :23:52.
Morecambe Bay. Back to the terrifying story of the woman who | :23:52. | :23:56.
was attacked in her own home not far from where we are here in | :23:56. | :24:02.
Morecambe. When Andy Monks was enjoying a night out in his local | :24:02. | :24:09.
pub, his wife was being put through a terrible ordeal in their own home. | :24:09. | :24:14.
Two then kicked in the front door and attacked her with an axe, | :24:14. | :24:19.
demanding to know where they kept the safe. I thought someone was | :24:19. | :24:23.
coming to murder me. There was no way they were coming with that | :24:23. | :24:28.
force and going home empty-handed. Kim did everything she could do to | :24:28. | :24:31.
keep the men out of harm's reach, but they threatened her and | :24:31. | :24:38.
demanded to know the combination to the safe. They swung an axe at her, | :24:38. | :24:44.
fortunately she ducked and mist, otherwise no wife. This has been a | :24:44. | :24:49.
traumatic experience which has had a knock-on effect with Andy as well. | :24:49. | :24:54.
The second man finds a safe in the hallway but it is firmly bolted to | :24:54. | :25:01.
the wall. He uses a crowbar. they wanted to know how they got | :25:01. | :25:05.
into the safe and I couldn't tell them. I said I really don't know, I | :25:05. | :25:12.
can't tell you. I thought he is not going to believe me. I completely | :25:12. | :25:17.
felt there was no way out. I thought he is definitely going to | :25:17. | :25:22.
hammer me on the head. The man grabbed her wrists and threatened | :25:22. | :25:28.
her with the axe. The second man managed to free the safe from the | :25:28. | :25:34.
wall. I just couldn't believe the safe had come out. I thought I am | :25:34. | :25:44.
:25:44. | :25:44. | ||
going to die. The men ran from the house. Kim's first thought was to | :25:44. | :25:49.
call her husband. It didn't register they had got the safe, the | :25:49. | :25:56.
shock was that tremendous. Andy Monks were still at the pub. This | :25:56. | :26:02.
phone call would change everything. Out of the blue, you get a phone | :26:02. | :26:07.
call like that. I was so shocked, it was unbelievable. In a split- | :26:07. | :26:13.
second you can't believe what you are listening to. He runs out of | :26:13. | :26:23.
:26:23. | :26:27. | ||
Arriving home, the couple are desperately upset and in total | :26:27. | :26:34.
shock. I believe they were targeted. Andy only ever goes out once a week | :26:34. | :26:38.
with a friend, and I believe they have been targeted because the | :26:38. | :26:43.
burglars were asking where the safe was. The man who threatened came | :26:43. | :26:48.
took off his balaclava and she was able to give the police a | :26:48. | :26:56.
description, which they have used to construct this image. The man is | :26:56. | :27:02.
a white male in his mid-20s, fair hair, quite a round face with | :27:02. | :27:08.
fairly even features. Andy has a message for the thieves. You have | :27:08. | :27:15.
nearly killed my wife, you have traumatised the pair of us in such | :27:15. | :27:23.
a way it is just on describable really. -- indescribable. We have | :27:23. | :27:29.
lost not just the items and the money, it has destroyed our lives. | :27:30. | :27:35.
Even just the lounge doesn't feel right with the lights on and | :27:35. | :27:41.
everything. It's like that the time it happened, it has stuck in my | :27:41. | :27:47.
subconscious now. I think we will have to move, to be honest. It has | :27:47. | :27:54.
upset us too much. It has to be, life is life. Joining me now is the | :27:54. | :28:01.
investigating officer. It was an awful ordeal for the couple. Talk | :28:01. | :28:07.
me through the safe we saw featured in the report. The safe has been | :28:07. | :28:15.
known about 11 years, sage green in colour, approximately 15 inches | :28:15. | :28:21.
high, 20 inches in depth. It has the old style File Type locking | :28:21. | :28:28.
mechanism on the front of the safe. A no digital keypad. No, not as far | :28:28. | :28:33.
as I am aware. It will have damaged to the rear of the safe where it | :28:33. | :28:39.
was wrenched from the wall. Inside the safe are documents, 2,000 in | :28:39. | :28:48.
cash, banking cards, things with names of the family on it and can | :28:48. | :28:55.
clearly be seen as belonging to them. Described the man to me again. | :28:55. | :29:01.
About 25 years old, a white male, approx 5 ft 7 in height with light | :29:01. | :29:08.
stubble on his face, short dark blonde mousy coloured hair and he | :29:08. | :29:13.
is described as being medium build. And the other man? Not as well | :29:13. | :29:19.
described, he is approximately 5 ft 10 in height, and also described as | :29:19. | :29:28.
If anybody has information, please get in touch. | :29:29. | :29:33.
Here are some more criminals caught on camera. | :29:33. | :29:37.
October last year, something has caught this man's eye in the window | :29:37. | :29:42.
of a local music shop in Wandsworth. He goes in and has a play with the | :29:42. | :29:47.
equipment on show, including this laptop. But it seems he wants this | :29:47. | :29:50.
one for keeps and he speaks it under his arm and walked straight | :29:50. | :29:59.
out of the shop. -- sneaks. He gets on to a bus. Come on, give us the | :29:59. | :30:05.
low-down on this laptop lifter. Next, this footage is of the inside | :30:05. | :30:10.
of a house in Gloucestershire filmed on the owner's own CCTV. | :30:10. | :30:16.
Crowbar in hand, the man cases the joint. This happened back in 20th | :30:16. | :30:19.
September 10. Even though he gives us this lovely shot of his face, he | :30:19. | :30:25.
still hasn't been caught. He got away with 10,000 in cash and | :30:25. | :30:30.
valuable watches. Somebody must recognise this brazen pergola. Call | :30:30. | :30:37.
us and turn Henin. -- beurre blanc. It is March this | :30:37. | :30:43.
year in the Newham area. The plates are stolen and the driver is | :30:43. | :30:49.
filling up. That is not enough. He pops open the boot to fill the cans | :30:49. | :30:53.
he has got in there. And then he just strides off with over 60 | :30:53. | :30:58.
worth of fuel. Come on, we don't want another crisis at the pumps. | :30:58. | :31:08.
:31:08. | :31:24. | ||
So, give us a call if you know Back now to Jacey, who has another | :31:24. | :31:28.
appeal. For me, one of the best things | :31:28. | :31:32.
about living in the north-west is our wonderful coastline. Year in, | :31:32. | :31:37.
year out, holidaymakers flock here to see it. But one holiday maker | :31:37. | :31:40.
would take away a horrible souvenir that he would never forget. He was | :31:40. | :31:45.
the victim of a vicious attack and he received a fractured skull. | :31:45. | :31:52.
We will be hearing from the victim of that attack, Martin Hall. I am | :31:52. | :31:58.
with the investigating officer, James Edmonds. A party of seven | :31:58. | :32:00.
people had been celebrating a birthday. They were heading back to | :32:01. | :32:07.
the hotel at about 12:30PM on April 14th. What happened next? A man | :32:07. | :32:12.
took a flower from a woman. Her father intervened and a scuffle | :32:12. | :32:18.
broke out. We have CCTV images. What are we seeing? A nasty scuffle, | :32:18. | :32:24.
two men grab the older man. One of the men is approached by a woman, | :32:24. | :32:28.
who he pushes to the floor before making off. This is all happening | :32:28. | :32:34.
outside Chubby's Bar. We're going to take a look in slow-motion, so | :32:34. | :32:39.
we can see some of the people you are keen to trace. A man in a white | :32:39. | :32:43.
polo shirt who comes into the shot, that is him. You want to get hold | :32:43. | :32:51.
of him. Another guy, he was wearing a beige jumper. What are you | :32:51. | :32:55.
wanting these men in connection with? They are wanted in connection | :32:55. | :32:59.
with public order offences and common assault. Things got worse | :32:59. | :33:02.
and you are tree looking for a third man? We spoke to a number of | :33:02. | :33:06.
witnesses who say this third man, dressed in black, was responsible | :33:06. | :33:11.
for punching the victim. He is wanted in connection with the salt? | :33:11. | :33:18.
Yes, assault and wounding. He suffered some injuries and lost a | :33:18. | :33:26.
lot of blood and fractured his skull. Martin Hall, very badly | :33:26. | :33:29.
traumatised. We need to catch these men. | :33:29. | :33:33.
Despite his injuries, he has bravely agreed to come here and he | :33:33. | :33:37.
is speaking to Jacey. I know you do not recall a great | :33:37. | :33:40.
deal of the incident yourself because you were knocked | :33:40. | :33:44.
unconscious. But talk me through a little bit about what you remember. | :33:44. | :33:47.
We were walking back to the hotel after a night out. I heard some | :33:47. | :33:52.
commotion behind me. I turned around and saw it was my friends. I | :33:52. | :33:57.
stepped in to help them. Than I have been hit in the face. I don't | :33:57. | :34:02.
really remember anything after that. You remember pulling one of the | :34:02. | :34:07.
people off your friend's dad? stepped in, to defend him, really. | :34:07. | :34:14.
How has it affected you? I get a lot of headaches. I never suffered | :34:14. | :34:18.
with that before. Financially, we have been out of work. I cannot go | :34:18. | :34:25.
back to work yet. That's it, really. I can't do anything. I suppose you | :34:25. | :34:28.
have lost income because of that? Which in itself is not an easy | :34:28. | :34:34.
thing to deal with. Thanks very much for talking to us. I suppose | :34:34. | :34:38.
Martin's story is a good example about how a night out can quickly | :34:38. | :34:42.
turn nasty. Earlier we had been doing some filming with the police | :34:42. | :34:49.
on a night out in Preston. When we left that report, the police and | :34:49. | :34:56.
street pastorss were helping a man It has been a lively Saturday night | :34:56. | :34:59.
in Preston. Although most people have been enjoying the party | :34:59. | :35:03.
atmosphere, alcohol might have got the better of a few. But this man | :35:03. | :35:08.
is a cause for serious concern. The St pastors do not know what has | :35:08. | :35:12.
happened to him. We will just get you wanted this bench, yes? | :35:12. | :35:17.
might have been attacked, or he might be ill. We are not paramedics, | :35:17. | :35:20.
we are not the police, but at least we can get him out of danger and | :35:20. | :35:24.
getting into a safe place, let professionals help him. | :35:24. | :35:31.
officers are able to contact a family member. It turns out the man | :35:31. | :35:33.
has had weighty much to drink. But that doesn't mean they can just | :35:33. | :35:38.
leave him. It is a duty of care to people. He is unconscious. The | :35:38. | :35:41.
officers will make sure he continues to breathe and it, if | :35:41. | :35:49.
necessary, intervene if he stops It is all about the vulnerability. | :35:49. | :35:53.
Anybody could come along and beat him up and we could end up with | :35:53. | :35:56.
murder, eventually. It is sad that somebody has got into that state, | :35:56. | :36:00.
but we are here to look after people as well as arrest people. It | :36:00. | :36:05.
is all part of the job. Serious alcohol-related incidents like this | :36:06. | :36:10.
are responsible for tying up a valuable resources. Elsewhere on | :36:10. | :36:14.
the streets, in the Ali's of Preston some people are still up to | :36:14. | :36:20.
no good. In this case, urinating in public. You might want to put that | :36:20. | :36:24.
away, mate. This man is allowed to go home. This one is not because he | :36:24. | :36:28.
was doing it in front of everyone and is on his way down to the | :36:28. | :36:33.
station. The gentleman in the back of the ban was seen urinating in a | :36:34. | :36:38.
public place. -- van. We have arrested him for being drunk and | :36:38. | :36:42.
disorderly in a public place. the plus side, he gets a free bed | :36:42. | :36:50.
for the night. Do we will wait until the last over, yes? -- your | :36:50. | :36:58.
It appears that alcohol has fuelled the next incident that the police | :36:58. | :37:04.
have come to deal with. He was abusive to the taxi driver. | :37:04. | :37:11.
taxi driver has pulled up and asked for help. Stop spitting! I will | :37:11. | :37:20.
Straight away he was abusive and aggressive. He was extremely strong. | :37:20. | :37:26.
Taller than most of us. He was drunk. Stop resisting! The officers | :37:26. | :37:30.
arresting a man for being drunk and disorderly. But he is not going to | :37:30. | :37:34.
go quietly. It is most unusual to have someone that is that | :37:34. | :37:44.
:37:44. | :37:57. | ||
(BLEEP)! I swear to God, I will head-butt you in a minute, you | :37:57. | :38:03.
It has taken five officers to detain this one man. Stop | :38:03. | :38:09.
threatening as. I swear to God, I will knock you out. Because of his | :38:09. | :38:12.
agitated state, the police cannot be sure that he is not going to | :38:12. | :38:15.
come to any harm, so everything is going to be removed, including his | :38:16. | :38:25.
:38:26. | :38:26. | ||
clothes. Open your fingers. Stocks off. He is the most aggressive, by | :38:26. | :38:30.
far, of the people that we have seen tonight. Hopefully there will | :38:30. | :38:37.
not be any more like that. As dawn breaks, they are still a few | :38:37. | :38:42.
stragglers in town. Where are your friends? Have you got a plan to get | :38:42. | :38:49.
home? Up you get, we will go and sit in the subway. It is just after | :38:49. | :38:53.
4:30am. There has been a few minor arrests for drunkenness, that is | :38:53. | :38:58.
about it. Custody, we have 18 prisoners in. 10 of them are drunk | :38:58. | :39:03.
and disorderly related to the city centre night-time economy. They | :39:03. | :39:08.
will all be dealt with in the morning once they are sober. | :39:08. | :39:12.
police will stay out on the streets for another hour as the stragglers | :39:12. | :39:16.
head home. Officers and revellers alike can have a well-earned | :39:16. | :39:19.
break... Until next weekend, at least. | :39:19. | :39:24.
Well, it was a long night for the team in Preston. All of the people | :39:24. | :39:29.
we saw arrested in that film accepted fixed penalty notices. | :39:29. | :39:32.
What we witnessed in Preston is typical of many cities. They | :39:32. | :39:36.
estimate there are around 1 million alcohol-related crimes in the UK | :39:36. | :39:43.
every year. Sergeant John Lovick, you police areas of Preston, were | :39:43. | :39:48.
those incidents to that of otto officers deal with? It was a busy | :39:48. | :39:53.
night in the city, there were two televised football events and it | :39:53. | :39:56.
was the last major night for the students before they went home for | :39:56. | :40:00.
the summer. But it was typical. have a secret weapon to try to | :40:00. | :40:04.
tackle some of the violent crime that can happen. It is, in fact, | :40:04. | :40:11.
this portable metal detecting system. Would you care to search me | :40:11. | :40:15.
to see if I have offensive weapons? I don't think I could do a lot of | :40:15. | :40:19.
damage with a butter knife, but it makes the point that it works. Is | :40:19. | :40:24.
this practical for a city centre? When you go through one of these at | :40:24. | :40:27.
the airport, you take all of that change out of your pockets, you | :40:27. | :40:33.
take off your belt. Is it effective in city centres? Yes, it is very | :40:33. | :40:37.
effective. It detects people carrying offensive weapons. It is | :40:37. | :40:41.
also an excellent deterrent. We utilise it a lot in the city. | :40:41. | :40:46.
must go off all the time with people with loose change in their | :40:46. | :40:52.
pockets? Hark your officers looking for specific individuals? It will | :40:52. | :40:56.
go off if they have changed in their pockets, but because of the | :40:56. | :41:01.
opportunity to have an interaction with individuals. Anybody who we | :41:01. | :41:05.
think is quite drunk, we will have a discussion with them. If we think | :41:05. | :41:09.
they need to be leaving the city, we will tell them. But it also | :41:09. | :41:13.
enables us to give them crime- prevention advice. It is about | :41:13. | :41:18.
heading off trouble before it begins? We had section 27 mentioned | :41:18. | :41:22.
in the film, what powers does that give your officers? It gives them | :41:22. | :41:26.
the power to request people to leave the city, to direct them to | :41:26. | :41:32.
leave. If we think that individual, or two or three pints from now, is | :41:32. | :41:37.
likely to become involved in crime or disorder, we will issue a 27 | :41:37. | :41:40.
order. They have had a good night and it is time for them to go home. | :41:40. | :41:45.
If they ignore that, they will get arrested? That is likely to be the | :41:45. | :41:49.
outcome. That is the situation with the knife arch, made you will see | :41:49. | :41:52.
them in a town near you. A quick update what has been coming | :41:52. | :41:56.
in on the phones, we have had useful leads coming by a text | :41:56. | :42:04.
message on one of deep wanted faces. Information on number three, which | :42:04. | :42:09.
is Dan Dan Shi. She absconded from court. We are getting some | :42:09. | :42:14.
information from hair. We are also hearing good information coming in | :42:15. | :42:18.
