you help us find the couple who launched a vicious attack on an | :00:17. | :00:27.
:00:27. | :00:45. | ||
We have been getting loads of calls on the crimes we featured yesterday, | :00:45. | :00:49.
and we need your help again today to try to catch the criminals whose | :00:49. | :00:55.
actions can ruin ordinary people's lives. On the programme today. Dot. | :00:55. | :01:00.
An unprovoked attack in a park. Who are the angry couple who left an | :01:00. | :01:06.
innocent dog walker out cold? A major police operation on the roads, | :01:06. | :01:12.
with over 100 officers - find out how they are tackling crime on our | :01:12. | :01:20.
motorways. And a blind young man, devastated by the theft of a | :01:20. | :01:27.
computer which kept him connected to the outside world. Our Roadshow team | :01:27. | :01:34.
are travelling the country, and today, they are in black and... | :01:34. | :01:40.
I am at Blackburn Community Fire Station this morning. It is a | :01:40. | :01:47.
brand-new building, with two fire engines working full-time, 24/7. The | :01:47. | :01:51.
60 staff based here are called out 2000 tonnes a year to emergencies. | :01:51. | :01:54.
Today, we are going to be finding out how these guys work with | :01:54. | :01:59.
Lancashire Constabulary, and also with the Ambulance Service, to keep | :01:59. | :02:03.
people safe here. They are currently running a campaign to warn teenagers | :02:03. | :02:07.
about the dangers of drink driving. They will be showing us how they cut | :02:07. | :02:11.
a driver out of the wreckage of a car. And guess who they are going to | :02:11. | :02:16.
be demonstrating on? First, a bizarre attack on aid dad from black | :02:16. | :02:24.
pool. When Christopher Hale let his dog off the lead in a local park, he | :02:24. | :02:27.
did not appreciate the fury it would provoke from a couple of other dog | :02:27. | :02:34.
walkers. The guy attacked me. I did not see it coming. The next thing I | :02:35. | :02:39.
knew, I was lying on the floor, out cold. I was shocked, how could | :02:40. | :02:49.
:02:50. | :02:51. | ||
anybody behave in this fashion? Christopher Hale has lived in this | :02:51. | :02:56.
area of Blackpool for 17 years. He first moved to the town in 1991 to | :02:56. | :02:59.
start training as a nurse. His dog Bobby is a loyal and faithful | :03:00. | :03:06.
friend. Late one April evening, Christopher realised he needed some | :03:06. | :03:09.
change for his daughter's dinner money. He set out to his local | :03:10. | :03:19.
store. His errand done, he headed home. Ten o'clock at night, there | :03:19. | :03:23.
were not many people around, so I walked across Claremont Park, and I | :03:23. | :03:27.
decided to let the dog off the lead. Just a soft dog, he would not do | :03:27. | :03:32.
anybody any harm. He likes a run every now and again. I was on the | :03:32. | :03:36.
phone to a friend, I heard a noise behind me, and I heard a woman | :03:36. | :03:43.
screaming... Get that dog off the lead! They had a dog with them, it | :03:43. | :03:50.
was white, it was a terrier. It was just crazy. The next thing I knew, | :03:50. | :03:55.
he starts attacking me, saying, I will do you, I will do you. I did as | :03:55. | :03:59.
he said, because he looked big. The next thing I knew, I was on the | :03:59. | :04:03.
floor. He had assaulted me. Christopher had been kicked in the | :04:03. | :04:11.
face. His friend, still on the other end of the phone, heard the attack. | :04:11. | :04:16.
My friend reckons I was on the floor for about 30 seconds. He said I did | :04:16. | :04:20.
not reply for 30 seconds. I did not realise I had been out for that | :04:20. | :04:25.
long. But then, the good Samaritan appeared. When I got up, a young | :04:25. | :04:33.
man, about 20, he said he saw the whole thing and he was willing to | :04:33. | :04:37.
sign a witness statement. He said his name was Jake, but I cannot | :04:37. | :04:40.
remember what he said after that. I must have been so concussed, | :04:40. | :04:47.
unfortunately. Christopher had to go to hospital after the incident. He | :04:47. | :04:51.
had a broken cheekbone to the left side of his face, and obviously, the | :04:51. | :04:54.
area surrounding that part of his face was quite seriously bruised. It | :04:55. | :05:00.
did look quite alarming. My face was purple, covered in blood. It was | :05:00. | :05:06.
excruciatingly painful. The police need to track down the dog walkers | :05:06. | :05:11.
responsible for this unprovoked attack. They are also keen to speak | :05:11. | :05:16.
to Jake, the man who offered himself as a witness. We believe he could | :05:16. | :05:19.
offer some vital information in regard to the matter, and | :05:19. | :05:24.
specifically, in identifying the male and female in question. | :05:24. | :05:28.
Claremont Park is surrounded by houses and busy roads. The police | :05:28. | :05:34.
are convinced others must have seen what happened. Given that the woman | :05:34. | :05:38.
with the dog was screaming so loudly, someone must have heard | :05:38. | :05:45.
something. Get that dog on a lead now! I would urge anybody to come | :05:45. | :05:54.
forward and contact the police. joined now by Detective Constable | :05:54. | :05:57.
Kate Buckingham. Really nasty injuries - how serious were they? | :05:57. | :06:03.
was concussed, and as a result of receiving treatment at hospital, it | :06:03. | :06:08.
was confirmed that he had a broken cheekbone. You are appealing for | :06:08. | :06:11.
witnesses, and you do have a pretty good description of this couple, | :06:11. | :06:19.
don't you? Yes, the male is described as being a white male, 6ft | :06:19. | :06:24.
in height, quite muscular build. He has quite a prominent jawline. He | :06:24. | :06:29.
was wearing a white, zip up fleece top, and the female has been | :06:29. | :06:34.
described as about 5ft 6ins in height, quite an overweight old, | :06:34. | :06:41.
wearing a three quarters length jacket, and she has long, dark and | :06:41. | :06:44.
what has been described as straggly hair. And she was walking a West | :06:44. | :06:48.
Highland Terrier J dog. And you really want to hear from Jake as | :06:49. | :06:56.
well. Yes, we are appealing to Jake and asking him to contact the police | :06:56. | :06:59.
because we could really do with speaking to him, to ascertain what | :06:59. | :07:07.
he saw. It was a wide-open area, we know that there were lots of houses | :07:07. | :07:11.
around - presumably somebody would have heard all of this screaming. | :07:11. | :07:15.
Christopher said the woman was screaming like a banshee. Yes, even | :07:15. | :07:20.
his friend on the telephone could hear her screaming. Given that the | :07:20. | :07:22.
park is surrounded by houses, you would've thought would have heard | :07:22. | :07:32.
it. Back to you, Rav. It is time to look at today's Wanted Faces. This | :07:32. | :07:39.
is the first one, Flogert Farruku and police want to question him in | :07:39. | :07:43.
connection with a cannabis factory in Cardiff, where almost 200,000 | :07:43. | :07:47.
worth of plants were discovered. He is originally from Albania. He | :07:47. | :07:51.
speaks little English. He is linked to the Cardiff and Newport areas of | :07:51. | :07:57.
south Wales but could be anywhere. Next up, Siad Mohamed Siad, whom the | :07:57. | :08:00.
police wants to question in connection with a violent rape. He | :08:00. | :08:04.
is described as 6ft tall, speaking with a London accent. Please let us | :08:04. | :08:12.
know if you have seen him. Our last two faces are connected - this man | :08:12. | :08:16.
is Cezary Chybowski, or Charlie, as he is known, and this woman is | :08:16. | :08:20.
Kerrie Regan, and they were both arrested in connection with intent | :08:20. | :08:25.
to supply drugs, but failed to turn up. They have linked to Croydon, | :08:25. | :08:29.
Bromley, Maidstone and also to the Republic of Ireland, but again, | :08:29. | :08:39.
:08:39. | :08:49. | ||
police think they could be anywhere. space, that is really important. | :08:49. | :08:56.
Now, it is time to take a look at today's first batch of crooks caught | :08:56. | :09:03.
on camera. See if you recognise any of this lot. A man gets on the bus | :09:03. | :09:07.
in Barnet in London, in August last year. He has even come prepared with | :09:07. | :09:12.
an empty plastic bag. And that brace on his leg is not going to hold him | :09:12. | :09:17.
back. He notices a laptop on an empty seat. The owner takes no | :09:17. | :09:21.
notice as he sits down next to her. He gets his carrier bag ready, | :09:21. | :09:27.
then, as she is distracted, casual as you like, he reaches down, and it | :09:27. | :09:32.
is in the bag. We really need to catch this laptop lifter. If you | :09:32. | :09:42.
:09:42. | :09:43. | ||
know who he is, pick up that phone. We are in this shop in Morecambe, | :09:43. | :09:47.
and it is eight o'clock in the evening. This woman is about to get | :09:47. | :09:53.
away with 120, but blink and you will miss it. First, she asks the | :09:53. | :09:59.
shop assistant to change 200 worth of 20 notes into 10 notes. He | :09:59. | :10:02.
counts her money carefully and checks it is not counterfeit. Then | :10:02. | :10:09.
he hands her the change, in tennis. But she seems to change her mind and | :10:09. | :10:11.
asks for 10p pieces instead. The assistant tells her he cannot | :10:11. | :10:19.
oblige. Now, she separates the money into two bundles, skims one into her | :10:19. | :10:29.
:10:29. | :10:29. | ||
bag and hands back the other. Let's watch it again, slowly. She then | :10:29. | :10:36.
hands back just 80 in 10 notes, while the assistant gives her the | :10:36. | :10:41.
original 200 in 20s, and she makes herself a tidy profit of 120. Call | :10:41. | :10:49.
us if you know her. A busy pub on Wandsworth Common. This table of | :10:49. | :10:53.
women are enjoying a meal, but one of them is about to have her night | :10:53. | :10:54.
of them is about to have her night ruined. This sneaky thief is using | :10:54. | :11:02.
his foot to shuffle her handbag away. Let's look at it again. Very | :11:02. | :11:12.
:11:12. | :11:13. | ||
crafty footwork. He takes his time, and no one bats an eyelid. | :11:13. | :11:22.
Eventually, he picks the bag up and saunters off. Do you know this | :11:22. | :11:29.
nimble bag shuffler? Give us a call. Very cheeky thief, that one. Call or | :11:29. | :11:31.
text on the usual numbers if you text on the usual numbers if you | :11:31. | :11:38.
recognise anyone. Here in Lancashire, more than 2000 people | :11:38. | :11:42.
were arrested for drink-driving related offences last year. So, | :11:42. | :11:47.
emergency services are taking shock tech fix to try to convince | :11:47. | :11:57.
:11:57. | :11:58. | ||
youngsters not to take the risk. Dangerous, drunken-driving. To me, | :11:58. | :12:02.
there is no greater waste of life than an accident that has happened | :12:02. | :12:06.
and killed somebody because somebody has been drinking. This car is | :12:06. | :12:10.
clearly weaving across the highway. The drunk driver is putting himself | :12:10. | :12:13.
and others in danger. Actually, police stopped him before he could | :12:13. | :12:20.
cause any harm. But not everybody is that lucky. This is the wreckage | :12:20. | :12:27.
that was left from the crash that killed 18-year-old Matthew, from | :12:27. | :12:30.
Lancashire. He was a popular teenager. His family and friends say | :12:30. | :12:35.
he was a joke, but also someone to rely on. Sadly, this was his last | :12:35. | :12:40.
night out with friends. Matthew crashed his car the next morning, | :12:40. | :12:48.
while he was still twice the drink drive limit. He died instantly. What | :12:48. | :12:52.
is left of Matthew's car is now being used in a hard-hitting | :12:52. | :12:56.
campaign called Wasted Lives. Lancashire police are working on the | :12:56. | :13:00.
project with the local Fire Service and counsel to warn teenagers about | :13:00. | :13:06.
the dangers of drink driving. Here at Blessington It Is School in | :13:06. | :13:13.
Burnley, there has been a strong reaction from youngsters. -- Placid | :13:13. | :13:19.
Trinity. It will make me think a lot about when I have my own car, and | :13:20. | :13:26.
what I will do on a Saturday night. It will make me drive safely. It | :13:26. | :13:31.
could happen to anyone. They are also seeing first-hand what happens | :13:31. | :13:35.
to someone trapped in a car. I can go into schools, I can speak to | :13:36. | :13:39.
members of the public every day of the week about speeding and | :13:39. | :13:45.
drink-driving, people not wearing seat belts, but until they see the | :13:45. | :13:48.
real consequences of those actions, I do not really think the message | :13:48. | :13:58.
:13:58. | :13:59. | ||
sinks in. This is Matthew's car, and we can see how badly damaged it was. | :13:59. | :14:03.
Schoenfeld is involved in the Wasted Lives campaign. You were also one of | :14:03. | :14:13.
:14:13. | :14:19. | ||
the first officers at the scene, it must have been awful. Yes, it was a | :14:19. | :14:22.
tremendous impact. We are three years on and the person driving is | :14:22. | :14:26.
still being treated for their injuries. Matthew did the right | :14:26. | :14:30.
thing because he went home in a taxi but this is an important message | :14:30. | :14:34.
about when you drink late at night and drive in the morning. Yes, young | :14:34. | :14:39.
people tend to go to friends, have a drink, go out later, stay out until | :14:39. | :14:43.
the early hours of the morning. They need to realise just how long it | :14:43. | :14:47.
takes for alcohol to come out of your system. About one unit comes | :14:47. | :14:51.
out for every hour after you first started drinking. It can be a good | :14:51. | :14:56.
or nine hours after you had your last drink before you can safely | :14:56. | :15:00.
drive and that is the message we are trying to get home. If you have had | :15:00. | :15:03.
a drink the night before, have yourself time for the alcohol to | :15:03. | :15:08.
wear off before you get the hind the wheel of the car again. Matthews | :15:08. | :15:12.
family are supporting this campaign, how are they? They are very | :15:12. | :15:17.
supportive of this family, -- of this campaign, they think it is a | :15:17. | :15:21.
great idea, they see it as Matthew's legacy, saving other | :15:21. | :15:26.
people 's lives. They obviously miss Matthew, you can't put into words | :15:26. | :15:31.
how they feel about that. They are looking at this as Matthew's legacy | :15:31. | :15:36.
and hopefully it will save lives in the future. Thank you very much. | :15:36. | :15:39.
Hopefully it will save lives in the future. | :15:39. | :15:42.
Time for a really quick appeal, Cambs police have asked us to help | :15:42. | :15:47.
find the men behind a tobacco heist. This happened just over a month ago | :15:47. | :15:52.
at around one p.m. On May the 14th. A delivery was taking place at a | :15:52. | :15:56.
Tesco Express on Hills Road in Cambridgeshire. Two men got away | :15:56. | :16:02.
with two Lodge bags including more than 2000 worth of tobacco. The | :16:02. | :16:05.
police would like to speak to these two men in connection with the theft | :16:05. | :16:09.
and also believe they may be linked to another tobacco theft worth | :16:09. | :16:14.
thousands of pounds, that happened in January on a petrol station on | :16:14. | :16:19.
Histon Road, also in Cambridge. Do you know who they are? It was at | :16:19. | :16:24.
lunchtime on Tuesday 14th of May. Maybe you were in that area of | :16:24. | :16:28.
Cambridge at the time. Did anybody offer you cheap tobacco a few weeks | :16:28. | :16:32.
ago? If anything rings a bell, you know the detail to call. | :16:32. | :16:40.
Still to come today: Gabby is blind and lives apart from most of his | :16:40. | :16:45.
friends and family. Now the special computer that lets him keep in touch | :16:45. | :16:51.
has been stolen. And the primary school targeted by | :16:51. | :17:00.
hooligans seven times. Do you know these drive-by sharpshooters? | :17:00. | :17:05.
Earlier we saw about the campaign, Wasted Lives. The fire crews and | :17:05. | :17:09.
police targeting young people, telling them about the dangers of | :17:09. | :17:12.
drink-driving and taking the wreckage of Matthew's car into | :17:12. | :17:17.
schools. Claire is with me. This is a really important campaign but are | :17:17. | :17:21.
you convinced it works because it is so shocking? We are totally | :17:21. | :17:25.
convinced. The reaction we have had from the young people who see what | :17:25. | :17:29.
we do has convinced us that it is bringing that message home. What | :17:29. | :17:35.
sort of response do you get? responses in particular. One was a | :17:35. | :17:38.
young girl who was very emotional cause of what we were telling her | :17:38. | :17:42.
and the fact it was reality. And one young man who could relate to | :17:42. | :17:47.
Matthew's story by looking at the articles in his car, they have said | :17:47. | :17:53.
it is going to make them think in the future. This procedure could be | :17:53. | :17:56.
the difference between life and death? Definitely and that is why it | :17:56. | :18:01.
has to be carried out by highly trained people. We want to show you | :18:01. | :18:04.
at home exactly what happens if someone is trapped in a car. I am | :18:04. | :18:09.
going to put my seat out on. Hopefully I would be wearing a | :18:09. | :18:13.
seatbelt anyway. If you are not come you are going to be injured far more | :18:13. | :18:17.
than otherwise. I am going to put this hat on and the glasses for | :18:17. | :18:25.
safety. We are showing you a demonstration. Keep looking at me, | :18:25. | :18:30.
don't move my head, my colleague will chat to you. Can we stabilise | :18:30. | :18:36.
the vehicle? The officer is holding my head in case I had a neck or | :18:36. | :18:42.
spinal injury. I can't move that from side to side. The important | :18:42. | :18:47.
thing here is staying calm. That is why the officer is in the back of | :18:47. | :18:50.
the car. There will be officers talking to me throughout this | :18:50. | :18:59.
procedure. During this, we will have the roof cut off the car and we will | :18:59. | :19:02.
be showing that later in the programme. At the moment, the | :19:02. | :19:06.
equipment is coming out and we are going to see exactly what happens | :19:06. | :19:16.
:19:16. | :19:32. | ||
the car and the equipment is coming out to start to cut the vehicle. It | :19:32. | :19:37.
is a very strange experience, I have to say, sitting here like this. I | :19:37. | :19:47.
have no idea what is going on behind We will join Sian a bit later on, | :19:47. | :19:51.
hopefully she will be all right. The north-west of England is connected | :19:51. | :19:56.
by 300 miles of motorway. Tackling crime on the roads is a huge task | :19:56. | :20:00.
for the forces responsible. Earlier this month four forces came together | :20:00. | :20:04.
to tackle the problem. We joined Operation Coalition, one of the | :20:04. | :20:07.
biggest leasing operations of the year. | :20:07. | :20:12.
On a sunny June morning, 120 officers from four separate forces, | :20:12. | :20:16.
Lancashire, Merseyside, Cheshire and later Manchester, are joining forces | :20:16. | :20:21.
to tackle every aspect of road crime. At the regional control | :20:21. | :20:25.
centre they are joined by other experts who use their knowledge to | :20:25. | :20:31.
act up the police. We have examined is who will have a good look at any | :20:31. | :20:35.
vehicle we think will not be complying with the law. We have | :20:35. | :20:40.
RSPCA and animal welfare officers and vets, looking at how animals are | :20:40. | :20:45.
transported. PC Mick God knows only too well be portents of today's | :20:45. | :20:53.
operation. -- Mick Gothard. I have been working on traffic and motorway | :20:53. | :20:56.
for 18 years and over that time I have been too many serious and fatal | :20:56. | :21:03.
accidents. Part of today's operation involves checks on livestock. A | :21:03. | :21:08.
horse box is pulled over into one of the checkpoints, where the animals' | :21:08. | :21:12.
welfare is examined as well as the vehicle. This time everything checks | :21:12. | :21:16.
out and the horse box can go on its way. However, a few miles away, near | :21:16. | :21:22.
the Burtonwood checkpoint, another recognition camera has spotted a car | :21:22. | :21:26.
flagged as a stolen vehicle. The driver says it is a courtesy car, | :21:26. | :21:30.
loans to him by a garage. Whilst the car is being inspected, the driver | :21:30. | :21:37.
undergoes a fit test. Walk in a straight line. Foot after foot. | :21:37. | :21:44.
you understand? I understand. is a series of five tests to assess | :21:44. | :21:48.
if someone has been driving under the influence of drugs. It involves | :21:48. | :21:56.
measuring pupils, coordination, balance and perception of time. | :21:56. | :22:01.
While the fit test continues, Mick is called to another checkpoint. | :22:01. | :22:05.
going to make my way to a site where a vehicle is going to be stopped in | :22:05. | :22:12.
relation to possible drivers hours offences. All goods vehicles drivers | :22:12. | :22:18.
have to take regular breaks and it is monitored by a device. The | :22:18. | :22:25.
officers download data and take a look. Can we go where the load is? | :22:25. | :22:29.
Let's find out what he is carrying. The officers discover that this | :22:29. | :22:35.
German vehicle has been stopped previously for a mechanical fault. | :22:35. | :22:40.
Eight weeks ago it was stopped with a steering defect. We put a | :22:41. | :22:46.
prohibition on the vehicle. You have 44 tonnes of vehicle and if the | :22:46. | :22:51.
steering goes, out of control in the motorway, 56 mph, it could quite | :22:51. | :22:55.
easily kill a lot of people. Drivers are not allowed to drive more than | :22:55. | :23:01.
nine hours a day. The device shows he has exceeded that limit and he | :23:01. | :23:06.
will be fined. It is a fine of 200 from the police side. In relation to | :23:06. | :23:11.
the steering defect, another 200 fine for that offence. He has an | :23:12. | :23:17.
hour to arrange a recovery garage. An expensive lesson for the driver, | :23:17. | :23:21.
which will make him think twice before breaking the law again. Back | :23:21. | :23:25.
with the Mercedes, the driver has passed the fit test with flying | :23:25. | :23:30.
colours. Now the police want to check his details. What vehicle did | :23:30. | :23:38.
you use to insure it? Did you ensure the Mercedes? You ensured a Metro? | :23:38. | :23:45.
Police decide to seize the car. is a suspected stolen car so we are | :23:45. | :23:52.
going to be look to see if he has a license and if he is licensed to | :23:52. | :23:56.
drive it. At the moment, a good result. Further down the motorway, | :23:56. | :24:02.
there is another incident. A man has abandoned his van and has run away. | :24:02. | :24:07.
He slammed the brakes on, jumped out of the vehicle, went over a barbed | :24:07. | :24:11.
wire fence and started running across a field. Unfortunately for | :24:11. | :24:16.
him, the PC who gave chase is a marathon runner. I kept saying it | :24:16. | :24:19.
was going to be a matter of him getting more tired than I am | :24:19. | :24:23.
committed hard to run with kit on and body armour but I kept thinking, | :24:23. | :24:27.
you will get more tired first. He was in sight at all times and it was | :24:27. | :24:34.
a case of he will finish before I will. Whilst a drugs dog searches | :24:34. | :24:38.
the van police discover it is not stolen and no drugs are found, but | :24:38. | :24:41.
the checks revealed the driver does not have insurance or a driving | :24:41. | :24:46.
licence. The PC's impromptu cross-country run has earned him a | :24:46. | :24:50.
telling off. The custody sergeant mentioned the fact about the state | :24:50. | :24:56.
of my uniform, but I think he will let it go this time. The team head | :24:56. | :25:00.
back to base. During the day, 300 vehicles have been stopped and 40 | :25:01. | :25:07.
were taken off the road. There have been seven arrests for various | :25:07. | :25:16.
offences and over 190 breath test. All in all, a busy day 's work. | :25:16. | :25:19.
I am joined by Sergeant Paul Evans from North Yorkshire Police who | :25:19. | :25:23.
needs your help to find a well travelled man. Tell us about your | :25:23. | :25:27.
appeal. We are looking for a man that has been staying at a bed and | :25:27. | :25:30.
breakfast in the North Yorkshire area committee has run up a bar | :25:30. | :25:35.
built and left paying for the bill or the accommodation. At least three | :25:36. | :25:39.
offences have happened on your ground. Richmond, settle and guile | :25:39. | :25:44.
grave. Since you have been looking into this, you have found there are | :25:44. | :25:47.
a number of offences where you believe the same person is | :25:47. | :25:51.
responsible, and they are nationwide. West Wales, | :25:51. | :25:56.
Haverfordwest, the South of England, even Derbyshire and up in the | :25:56. | :26:00.
north-west as well. He really is all over the place. We believe it is the | :26:00. | :26:08.
same person. What is the method? has spoken with the B&Bs in the | :26:08. | :26:12.
North Yorkshire area they need to be looking for, they should for | :26:12. | :26:14.
contractors and checking out the accommodation. He has given the name | :26:14. | :26:18.
Charlie Roost and an address in Bournemouth but we know him to be | :26:18. | :26:24.
David Brown. That is his proper name. We have a nice photograph of | :26:24. | :26:28.
him here but there are also some distinctive features. He is about | :26:28. | :26:33.
six foot, his big is with a Scottish accent, he a one inch guard crosses | :26:33. | :26:38.
left eyebrow. He has the word Norman tattooed on his left forearm and a | :26:38. | :26:43.
seven inch flour, which is distinctive. Do you have any advice | :26:43. | :26:50.
for small bed-and-breakfast owners or hoteliers? Try to get people to | :26:50. | :26:53.
pay for things up front. If they want to pay with a credit card, | :26:53. | :27:00.
check the details. Check for ID and take some sort of holding fee on the | :27:00. | :27:07.
card, so at least if they disappear without paying, you have something. | :27:07. | :27:10.
If anyone sees him turning up all you think it is him, contact police | :27:10. | :27:16.
straightaway? Yes, we do need to speak to this chap. Thank you very | :27:16. | :27:21.
much for joining us. Earlier, we saw the team at Blackburn fire station | :27:21. | :27:28.
cuttings Xian out of a car. Fingers crossed it is going all right. | :27:28. | :27:33.
OK so far, quite a lot of SAP and in the past few minutes. The roof has | :27:33. | :27:39.
actually been lifted off the car. I have been placed onto this order. If | :27:39. | :27:47.
I was a casual to, I would be strapped in but for the ease of TV | :27:47. | :27:51.
they have kept the straps of so I can show you what is happening and I | :27:51. | :27:56.
can have a chat to Caroline. I am awfully glad that I can stand up on | :27:56. | :28:00.
my feet. It happened very quickly. Is it always that quick? I was | :28:00. | :28:03.
sitting in the car, the next minute the roof was off and I was being | :28:03. | :28:08.
lifted onto the board. It depends on the circumstances and the impact. | :28:08. | :28:17.
Anything between 50 and -- 15 and 20 minutes, it can take us. It has to | :28:17. | :28:20.
be quick, because every minute really counts in this sort of | :28:20. | :28:25.
situation especially somebody is seriously injured. Definitely. We | :28:25. | :28:29.
work on the principle of one hour, the Golden hour, to get from impact | :28:29. | :28:35.
of the car to get that person out of the car and into casualty care in | :28:35. | :28:41.
the hospital. That 20 minutes is imperative to the incident. I didn't | :28:41. | :28:46.
really know what was going to happen when I was in the car. I was | :28:46. | :28:50.
prepared that we knew the procedure would take place but I had no idea | :28:50. | :28:53.
how it would happen. When you hear the cutting machine, it is quite | :28:53. | :29:00.
scary, and you have to keep people calm. Yes. We have somebody in the | :29:00. | :29:03.
back stabilising the seat and making sure the casualties in the best | :29:03. | :29:07.
condition we can make them. We have to keep them calm and reassure them | :29:07. | :29:11.
we are looking after them, we are going to get them out and get them | :29:11. | :29:15.
to hospital, to the care that they require. You are out working on the | :29:15. | :29:19.
roads all the time and you see some terrible accidents, you have to be | :29:19. | :29:23.
very highly trained, how many do you see and what impact does it have on | :29:23. | :29:33.
:29:33. | :29:33. | ||
you? Across the county, you can predict probably one of these every | :29:33. | :29:39.
day. We are professional people, we have got to get on with the job, do | :29:39. | :29:43.
what we are there to do, to look after the community. And then it is | :29:43. | :29:47.
afterwards that we will talk about it and analyse what happened. Thank | :29:47. | :29:51.
you very much. I have been in safe hands here with this crew. I would | :29:51. | :29:56.
not like to go through that for real. It was really scary, | :29:56. | :30:00.
particularly when they were getting me on to that board. Back to you, | :30:00. | :30:09.
Rav. Watch closely, and see if you can recognise any of these culprits, | :30:09. | :30:13.
who were caught red-handed. Now, for the finer things in life. We are | :30:13. | :30:15.
the finer things in life. We are real and off-licence in Soho in | :30:15. | :30:20.
Watch closely as one of the men reaches over and steals a bottle of | :30:20. | :30:29.
champagne. Watch again - that Apple is worth a cool 270. Come on, let's | :30:29. | :30:36.
put a stop to this and crack the case. We are in a pub in Islington | :30:36. | :30:42.
in January this year, and it is time for a classic con. Watch carefully, | :30:42. | :30:48.
as this man returns a menu to his vicar Tim's table. She has no idea | :30:48. | :30:53.
that he is stealing her designer handbag at the same time complete | :30:53. | :30:59.
with her purse, credit cards and keys. Watch again. You can see him | :30:59. | :31:03.
using his coat to hide what he is up to. Help us track down this | :31:03. | :31:09.
trickster. He got away with 750 worth of stuff. You know what you | :31:09. | :31:19.
:31:19. | :31:19. | ||
need to do. Just before midnight, in Frinton on Sea, in Essex. The shop | :31:19. | :31:24.
is shut, but that is not a problem for these men, who have broken in, | :31:24. | :31:29.
and who wasted no time filling a bag with 2000 worth of cigarettes. But | :31:29. | :31:34.
look closely, that bag is actually a duvet cover. But they are not here | :31:34. | :31:38.
for a sleepover, and they quickly make their escape. Come on, let's | :31:38. | :31:42.
give these guys a sleepless night. give these guys a sleepless night. | :31:42. | :31:46.
It is time to kick the habit, guys. If you can name any of that lot, get | :31:46. | :31:56.
:31:56. | :31:59. | ||
in touch with us. And remember, you can also call Crimestoppers | :31:59. | :32:08.
anonymously. We have seen what Lancashire police and Fire Service | :32:08. | :32:13.
are doing to save lives. I wanted to show you inside this police car. It | :32:13. | :32:17.
is really well equipped, as you would expect. Traffic cones, blue | :32:17. | :32:22.
flashing light, even a shovel. But there is one piece of kit which | :32:22. | :32:25.
perhaps you might not expect to see in a police car. It is a | :32:25. | :32:33.
defibrillator. Why do you carry this? We have got ten such units | :32:34. | :32:37.
within the Road policing unit in Lancashire. We are all trained in | :32:38. | :32:42.
the use of the defibrillators. With the area that we cover, we might | :32:42. | :32:46.
come across scenes where we might be first on the scene, and we might be | :32:46. | :32:56.
:32:56. | :32:59. | ||
called upon to use them. They are a useful thing. Let's see how it is in | :32:59. | :33:06.
action. I know that Mark Evans, you train the police - what would we | :33:06. | :33:15.
have to do if we were using this? Once it is switched on, you simply | :33:15. | :33:19.
Once it is switched on, you simply pull the handle, and follow the | :33:19. | :33:23.
instructions on there. You cannot do anything wrong with them. This one | :33:24. | :33:31.
goes up here on the chest area. And this one goes down here. So, the two | :33:31. | :33:41.
:33:41. | :33:43. | ||
pads are on. It will detect whether the heart is beating all quivering. | :33:43. | :33:51.
It will now decide whether to send a pulse or not. It is as easy as that. | :33:51. | :33:54.
You press the button and it will deliver a shock. This is a training | :33:54. | :34:00.
device. That has now delivered a shock to the patient, hopefully to | :34:00. | :34:06.
get the heart to restart. These can be found now in shopping centres and | :34:06. | :34:10.
all sorts of different places now. Yes, shopping centres, leisure | :34:10. | :34:20.
:34:20. | :34:27. | ||
centres, schools. And also, they are upsetting for everyone, but when the | :34:27. | :34:31.
thieves take away your lifeline to the outside world, the consequences | :34:31. | :34:35.
can be devastating. Gabby Sanchez went blind whilst growing up in | :34:35. | :34:38.
Spain. Since coming to the UK he says he has felt removed from the | :34:39. | :34:43.
life he used to know. But a burglary at his home last month has left him | :34:43. | :34:50.
even more isolated. My son has not always been blind. He started going | :34:50. | :34:56.
blind slowly from the age of 12, and then from 12 to 18 he lasted very | :34:56. | :35:02.
quickly. It is hard for him to accept the fact that he is blind, | :35:02. | :35:10.
and unfortunately, there is nothing to be done for it. But through a | :35:10. | :35:13.
specialised laptop, Gabby has been able to communicate with people | :35:13. | :35:16.
around the world. His computer was fitted with a programme for blind | :35:16. | :35:22.
users, which reads e-mails out loud, allowing him to talk to friends and | :35:22. | :35:32.
:35:32. | :35:46. | ||
his mum worked out raising money for a local blind charity, thieves broke | :35:47. | :35:50.
into their home, stealing cash and a mobile phone, but more importantly, | :35:50. | :35:58.
they took the laptop. We went out at about half past 12, we came back | :35:58. | :36:02.
about six o'clock, and as I was parking the car, I noticed that the | :36:02. | :36:12.
:36:12. | :36:14. | ||
door was broken. This Packard Bell laptop was bought in Spain, and it | :36:14. | :36:20.
has Spanish characters on the keyboard. Obviously, it is quite | :36:20. | :36:27.
distinctive and it is not going to be of much use for anyone living in | :36:27. | :36:32.
this area. I would ask anybody with any information, if they have been | :36:32. | :36:40.
offered it for sale, to come forward to the police. The laptop and | :36:40. | :36:50.
:36:50. | :36:55. | ||
software costs 600. Gabby and his information to help catch these | :36:55. | :37:01.
thieves. We would appeal to anybody who potentially saw any suspicious | :37:01. | :37:05.
activity, anybody running away from this area, on the afternoon of 10th | :37:05. | :37:13.
of May, between about mid day and 6pm. The incident has had a huge | :37:13. | :37:19.
impact on Gabby. He does not really want to go out, he will not go out | :37:19. | :37:24.
on his own, he wants to be in the house on his own. It has left Gabby | :37:24. | :37:31.
feeling stuck terrible burglary, and it has really hit Gabby hard. If you | :37:31. | :37:35.
know someone who has really got hold of a Packard Bell laptop, with a | :37:35. | :37:38.
Spanish keyboard and special software, then please just hand it | :37:38. | :37:42.
to the police and allow Gabby to get back online with his family and | :37:42. | :37:50.
friends. Now, just down the road from here is St Silas Primary | :37:50. | :37:53.
School, and the pupils are hoping that you will help identify the | :37:53. | :37:56.
vandals who have been using their lovely new school as target | :37:56. | :38:06.
:38:06. | :38:06. | ||
practice. We absolutely love this building. The children love it, they | :38:06. | :38:09.
love the learning that takes place and they feel very safe in this | :38:09. | :38:14.
building. Since this school was built last year, to provide a safe | :38:14. | :38:19.
and inspirational learning space for children... One of the design | :38:19. | :38:23.
features was the large windows, two letters much like in as possible, | :38:23. | :38:26.
because obviously, children learn better and can write better in | :38:26. | :38:33.
natural light, but also, to cut down on the electricity costs. But over | :38:33. | :38:36.
the last year, the positive environment at the school has been | :38:36. | :38:40.
invaded. Vandals have been using the school's large windows for target | :38:40. | :38:50.
:38:50. | :39:10. | ||
a year. In total, the school has been targeted seven times. This is a | :39:10. | :39:13.
secret den, it is one of our favourite learning spaces in the | :39:13. | :39:17.
school. One of the design features is light. Unfortunately, these | :39:17. | :39:22.
windows which are being shot at, it is just such a shame that such a | :39:22. | :39:31.
fantastic learning space has to be spoiled. Each window costs 500. In | :39:31. | :39:37.
total, nearly 4000 has been spent on replacing them. Somebody is | :39:37. | :39:40.
coming past thinking that they are just having a bit of fun, shooting | :39:40. | :39:44.
at windows. It could have dire consequences if the children are in | :39:44. | :39:48.
school at that point in time. A lot of them find it very upsetting. We | :39:48. | :39:52.
have had a few children crying, and you can imagine the impact that such | :39:52. | :39:58.
a large window being shot at has. The children looking onto that glass | :39:58. | :40:03.
window were visibly shocked and upset. | :40:03. | :40:11.
It is incredible, and with me is the person investigating this case. Can | :40:11. | :40:19.
you tell us about that Redcar? we really need to locate either the | :40:19. | :40:24.
driver or the owner of this vehicle. We believe the occupants have caused | :40:24. | :40:27.
the damage to this school. We believe this car to be local. It is | :40:27. | :40:34.
a Ford Focus, believed to be 2005. It has got to doors. Hopefully most | :40:35. | :40:38.
people will be able to spot the spoiler at the back and the alloy | :40:38. | :40:46.
wheels, which are quite distinctive. Thank you very much. Hillary | :40:46. | :40:49.
Hinchliff is the head teacher at the primary school, and you are really | :40:49. | :40:54.
angry about this, aren't you? really are. The school won an award | :40:54. | :40:58.
for its architecture last week, for somebody to want to comment damage | :40:58. | :41:05.
this building is really upsetting. It is all about education, isn't it? | :41:05. | :41:09.
Yes. Obviously, we have to board up the windows, so it is incredibly | :41:09. | :41:16.
disruptive and upsetting. Costly as well. Thanks for coming. I know you | :41:16. | :41:20.
are upset by this bash what happens when you go in and you see the | :41:20. | :41:30.
broken glass? I feel kind of said, because the architects have spent a | :41:30. | :41:32.
lot of time working on this new building and people are just | :41:32. | :41:41.
