Good morning, we're back for a brand-new week and need your help to | :00:00. | :00:11.
handcuffs and criminals. The real-life nightmare for a | :00:12. | :00:15.
grandmother and her family. Just a man with a gun at my head in my | :00:16. | :00:20.
bedroom. And I'm finding out how these guys rescued tourist in | :00:21. | :00:23.
trouble out at sea. You are watching Crimewatch road | :00:24. | :00:24.
show. Hello, welcome to week two of | :00:25. | :01:00.
Crimewatch Roadshow, featuring appeals from across the UK. | :01:01. | :01:05.
Coming up, as shocking discovery the two brothers camping in a North | :01:06. | :01:09.
Wales Police. Found some bones on the floor, then realised they were | :01:10. | :01:14.
human remains. And the 83-year-old war hero robbed of his prized | :01:15. | :01:18.
possession. Came from behind, Italy, knocked me to the floor and took my | :01:19. | :01:21.
watch. Today we are in the coastal town of | :01:22. | :01:27.
Conwy and it looks pretty beautiful, Michelle. | :01:28. | :01:31.
What are you up to? Yes, Rav, it is stunning in this part of North | :01:32. | :01:35.
Wales, the medieval castle behind me, it beautiful beaches, the | :01:36. | :01:39.
harbour. It really is a tourist hotspot with a lot of people heading | :01:40. | :01:46.
here every year. But this week also sees the anniversary, 50th | :01:47. | :01:49.
anniversary, of the Conwy lifeboat station. Lots of people have been | :01:50. | :01:54.
rescued here over the years, including David stocks, who joins me | :01:55. | :01:58.
now. Tell me a little more about what happened to you? Approximately | :01:59. | :02:05.
18 months ago, in January, I fell in the water. I was going out of the | :02:06. | :02:09.
boat, we have a boat on the river, and I fell in the water. We have got | :02:10. | :02:16.
footage of you being rescued. You must have been terrified? I was, | :02:17. | :02:21.
there is no way you can get out of the water, you are dependent on | :02:22. | :02:24.
someone else to get you out. It looked freezing cold? It was, you | :02:25. | :02:31.
cannot emphasise how much that cold takes... Within a minute, you are | :02:32. | :02:36.
frozen. Really, really scary. The work these guys do is amazing. Rav, | :02:37. | :02:42.
join me later to find out just how they rescue people. | :02:43. | :02:46.
Looking forward to that. First, the police need your help to track down | :02:47. | :02:51.
the armed gang which terrorised family in Warrington. As you would | :02:52. | :02:55.
expect, this is a really serious case. | :02:56. | :03:04.
The Bells Pub hold special memories for Carol. These day she is one of | :03:05. | :03:09.
the customers but for three years she was on the other side of the | :03:10. | :03:15.
bar. I worked in pubs most of my life, I took over the Bells, it is a | :03:16. | :03:22.
local pub, everybody knows everybody else, they would do anything for | :03:23. | :03:27.
you. But there comes a time you have got to move on. In December, Carol | :03:28. | :03:33.
called time on her role as landlady and is now focusing on her family. | :03:34. | :03:45.
I've got two sons, Stewart, who is 22, and Ian who is 21, and my | :03:46. | :03:49.
granddaughter, love her to bits. Family is the most important thing | :03:50. | :03:50.
in your life. One evening, back in April, Carol | :03:51. | :04:04.
and her partner Mike were relaxing at home. Sat on the sofa with Mike, | :04:05. | :04:11.
just chatting about day-to-day things, then I went to bed. But the | :04:12. | :04:20.
telly on, watching telly upstairs for a little while, must have gone | :04:21. | :04:27.
straight to sleep. As Carol Lay in bed, her son and three-year-old | :04:28. | :04:30.
granddaughter were asleep in the next room. Her partner, Mike, stayed | :04:31. | :04:33.
downstairs watching television. Stay where you are! Do you know why | :04:34. | :04:54.
we're here?! Suddenly, three masked men burst into the house. One stood | :04:55. | :04:58.
guard over Mike as the other two ran upstairs. I just turned over and saw | :04:59. | :05:06.
somebody stood there pointing something at me. Just a man with a | :05:07. | :05:12.
gun at my head in my bedroom. Come on, where is he? Just stood there | :05:13. | :05:18.
all in black, big brown eyes showing. The gunman demanded the | :05:19. | :05:24.
keys to the pub, which she seemed to think Carol still run. He was | :05:25. | :05:29.
shouting for the pub keys and money, I was like, what are you on about? | :05:30. | :05:35.
What money, what keys? I have not been in the pub since December. That | :05:36. | :05:40.
is when he started going through my bag and my drawers. He took my phone | :05:41. | :05:47.
and the money that was on top of my bed. Carol then panicked as the man | :05:48. | :05:52.
headed towards the bedroom where her son and granddaughter were sleeping. | :05:53. | :06:00.
Nothing, nothing! I thought, I'm not having this, no. | :06:01. | :06:06.
I was on the landing, confronted him, said, you were not going in | :06:07. | :06:11.
there, my granddaughter is in their! Luckily, she was asleep. I was | :06:12. | :06:16.
looking down the barrel of the gun. They had it to me, kept saying, do | :06:17. | :06:22.
you want blasting? I said, you are not going in there where my | :06:23. | :06:25.
granddaughter is. Stuart was on his phone, he said, I will have your | :06:26. | :06:31.
phone as well. In the chaos, the gunman's next words came out even | :06:32. | :06:36.
more of a surprise. That is when he said, getting there, Carol. That is | :06:37. | :06:42.
what he said. He must know me. I think you must have realised what he | :06:43. | :06:47.
had said. He sort of shuddered a bit. Another one ran out of my other | :06:48. | :06:57.
son's bedroom, ran down the stairs, then the other one just turned round | :06:58. | :07:07.
and followed him down the stairs. Man to face a 55-year-old woman with | :07:08. | :07:13.
gun to her head and then try to get in a room with a three-year-old | :07:14. | :07:18.
child -- to come and face. What kind of people are they? The attackers | :07:19. | :07:23.
also took something which had great sentimental value for Carol. They | :07:24. | :07:28.
can have the money, I just want my phone back. My mum died last year, | :07:29. | :07:32.
it had all her videos on it, that is all I have got off her. I know I've | :07:33. | :07:41.
got pictures of her but it is not the same as having your mum walking | :07:42. | :07:48.
about and talking, if it? I could just sit here now and cry, thinking | :07:49. | :07:54.
about what could have happened. I could have been killed, Mike could | :07:55. | :07:58.
have been killed, my son and by granddaughter could have been | :07:59. | :08:02.
killed. It is awful, it really is. I just want them caught. | :08:03. | :08:09.
Really frightening. I'm joined by Detective can Ian Paisley from | :08:10. | :08:12.
Cheshire police. What an awful ordeal for Carol and her family. We | :08:13. | :08:17.
know that the gunman referred to Carol by her first name, what is the | :08:18. | :08:22.
significance of this? I believe this is significant because it is | :08:23. | :08:25.
targeted attacks, we believe the gunman knew Carol most likely from | :08:26. | :08:30.
her time as the landlady of Bells, presume he she was still the | :08:31. | :08:34.
landlady bet, which was not the case. She had her phone stowed have | :08:35. | :08:37.
much campaign videos of her late mother? It was a Nokia Lumia 635, in | :08:38. | :08:50.
a white glittery case, and we would appeal to anyone who has received | :08:51. | :08:55.
one of these to get in touch. There have been three jobs similar to this | :08:56. | :08:58.
in the Warrington area in the month of April, the first at Carol's | :08:59. | :09:03.
address in Lewis Avenue, the second at Albert Road and the third at the | :09:04. | :09:08.
populist pub. On each occasion three men have won in armed with a | :09:09. | :09:11.
shotgun. What else do we know about the offenders? They are described in | :09:12. | :09:16.
a very similar rate in each incident, the gunman described as | :09:17. | :09:21.
being about five tall, white male, dark clothing and a balaclava. He | :09:22. | :09:26.
has a Warrington accent, as have the other two males, described as | :09:27. | :09:31.
slightly taller, around six but tall and white males. Thank you so much. | :09:32. | :09:35.
If you do have any information at all, make sure you get in touch with | :09:36. | :09:41.
us, details are on the screen. Onto a very mysterious case that | :09:42. | :09:44.
happened just down the road from here. Police and locals alike are | :09:45. | :09:53.
completely baffled. This woodland in the heart of Conwy | :09:54. | :09:58.
North Wales is a place of stunning natural beauty. The area was also | :09:59. | :10:04.
part of the route for last year's motorsport event, the Wales Rally | :10:05. | :10:09.
GB. Back in November, two rally fans who were also brothers were camping | :10:10. | :10:13.
nearby when they made a shocking discovery. We have been going to the | :10:14. | :10:17.
rally every year since I was about five, my father used to take us. Big | :10:18. | :10:22.
rally fans, I'd only been a couple of times when I was younger so I | :10:23. | :10:30.
came up to watch it with him. Came in the woods to find somewhere | :10:31. | :10:34.
suitable for a little fire and a few beers. Mark went off to find some | :10:35. | :10:47.
firewood. I walked about ten, 15 yards away from my brother and I | :10:48. | :10:55.
found some bones on the floor. On closer inspection realised they were | :10:56. | :11:02.
actually human remains. Obviously it was quite shocking because it's not | :11:03. | :11:07.
something that you find every day, and it left a number in our throats, | :11:08. | :11:12.
really. -- left a lump in our throats. We were called by a member | :11:13. | :11:18.
of the public who said they had found what they thought was a body | :11:19. | :11:22.
in the woods. One of -- when our investigators got there it was clear | :11:23. | :11:25.
that person had been there for some time. We cordoned off the area and | :11:26. | :11:32.
meticulously examined the scene, our crime scene investigators. The scene | :11:33. | :11:37.
was examined for a number of days, in two weeks, actually. Officers and | :11:38. | :11:40.
staff had to be here through the wind, the rain, the snow. This is | :11:41. | :11:48.
quite a desolate area, our thoughts were, how has this individual got | :11:49. | :11:52.
here? Is it a person who was walking and fell down on their own, or | :11:53. | :11:58.
somebody brought that person here? Once we recovered the body it was | :11:59. | :12:02.
now time for us to try to piece together how that individual got | :12:03. | :12:07.
here and also their identity. When forensic experts examined the body, | :12:08. | :12:11.
they began to build a picture of the victim. We were able to work out | :12:12. | :12:16.
that the skeleton was that the mail, over 50 years of age, between five | :12:17. | :12:22.
foot eight and five foot ten tall, large build. We could also tell that | :12:23. | :12:26.
the individual had arthritis and previously had a broken nose. | :12:27. | :12:32.
Crucially we were also able to ascertain that the individual had | :12:33. | :12:36.
suffered serious head injuries which led us to treat the case as being | :12:37. | :12:38.
suspicious, a homicide investigation. Detectives also | :12:39. | :12:47.
turned to forensic dentistry expert Doctor John Rosie for help with | :12:48. | :12:51.
their investigations. The first thing that was apparent, albeit | :12:52. | :12:59.
posterior molar teeth were absent. That, to me, indicated that that | :13:00. | :13:04.
person wasn't particularly dentally aware in his younger years. All of a | :13:05. | :13:10.
sudden the penny dropped because his pre-molar teeth have got some very | :13:11. | :13:16.
extensive crown work, root canal work, and filling work, which is of | :13:17. | :13:23.
a high quality. The style of the dentistry is typical of dentistry | :13:24. | :13:27.
that was done in the 90s, 2000, possibly late 80s. This description | :13:28. | :13:33.
also appears in dental journals in the hope that it will jog a | :13:34. | :13:38.
dentist's memory about work that he has completed. Two items off badly | :13:39. | :13:46.
decomposed clothing were also recovered from the scene. Fragments | :13:47. | :13:50.
from a jumper and what appeared to be the label from some underwear. We | :13:51. | :13:56.
have been able to take the fragments to an expert in Scotland to look at | :13:57. | :14:00.
the jumper, who has then been able to tell us the type of yon, the | :14:01. | :14:04.
colour of the yarn, and when it was made. We have worked out it was a | :14:05. | :14:09.
green Pringle jumper, it would have been extra large, made between 2000 | :14:10. | :14:16.
and 2004. The underwear was very badly decomposed, all we had was a | :14:17. | :14:20.
label, we were able to identify the fact that the underwear was made at | :14:21. | :14:25.
Marks Spencer, and from there we did a lot of investigation and were | :14:26. | :14:28.
able to ascertain that the underwear would have been a wine, maroon | :14:29. | :14:32.
colour, made between 1999 and 2000. We have done a lot of work over the | :14:33. | :14:47.
last few months as part of our investigations try to identify the | :14:48. | :14:52.
mail. It has been frustrating but I hope if we put all the pieces of the | :14:53. | :14:56.
jigsaw together, we will identify who the individual is. It's not | :14:57. | :15:04.
easy, I'm reminded about it every day, I think about it pretty much | :15:05. | :15:08.
every day that somebody has lost their life up here and nobody found | :15:09. | :15:13.
him. It's just sad, you know, that he's been here that long and people | :15:14. | :15:17.
have been driving past probably daily and not realised he was here. | :15:18. | :15:22.
He's got family out there somewhere, some loved ones, and they don't know | :15:23. | :15:27.
where he is. We found him, so we would like to remember him by laying | :15:28. | :15:34.
some flowers and remember him. Such a sad case and a real mystery. The | :15:35. | :15:40.
victim is thought to have been around 50 years old and | :15:41. | :15:44.
approximately five tall with a stocky build, wearing a green | :15:45. | :15:48.
Pringle jumper just like this one. If you have any information which | :15:49. | :15:51.
could help identify the victim or the person who committed this crime, | :15:52. | :15:55.
please get in touch. Still to come this morning, the veteran with | :15:56. | :16:01.
Alzheimer's, cruelly robbed in the street. I knew what the watch meant | :16:02. | :16:08.
to him. He had it all those years and somebody just takes it, it's | :16:09. | :16:13.
disgusting. And the clamp-down on drivers risking it all on these | :16:14. | :16:18.
winding country roads. If you are involved in a collision at those | :16:19. | :16:19.
speeds, somebody is going to die. But first, we need you to look | :16:20. | :16:25.
closely at today's selection And a warning that one | :16:26. | :16:27.
of these is quite nasty... Go back to May 2014, the guy in the | :16:28. | :16:43.
green top is pacing the shop floor. He has a basket but isn't here for | :16:44. | :16:50.
bread. He's here for the dough. He swoops in and steals nearly a grand | :16:51. | :16:55.
in cash. It isn't a cash and carry. Check out this guy and shop him. | :16:56. | :17:04.
Charing Cross station, London, late on a Sunday. This man isn't here to | :17:05. | :17:14.
catch a train. He wanders around, practices gymnastics, then heads | :17:15. | :17:19.
into the Arches shopping centre. He starts searching the area but | :17:20. | :17:24.
disappears when somebody walks past. What's he up to? The second nobody | :17:25. | :17:29.
is looking, he's back, setting fire to the flag on the front of a kiosk. | :17:30. | :17:36.
He skips away towards the Golden Jubilee Bridge, but not before | :17:37. | :17:40.
taking a quick peek at his handiwork. The fire rapidly spread | :17:41. | :17:47.
across several kiosks causing thousands of pounds of damage, | :17:48. | :17:48.
thankfully nobody was hurt. It's two days after Valentines last | :17:49. | :18:05.
year. But these two are not in the mood full of. They are just after | :18:06. | :18:09.
loot. They enter a betting shop in Telford and one throws himself over | :18:10. | :18:15.
the counter, shouting for money. They have covered their faces and | :18:16. | :18:18.
police say they are armed with kitchen knives. The terrified lone | :18:19. | :18:26.
female cashier is pushed back so she can't press the panic button. They | :18:27. | :18:31.
take less than ?200 in cash and make off with such haste one of the men | :18:32. | :18:37.
uses the cashier's face as a leg up over-the-counter. | :18:38. | :18:46.

As we saw earlier, one of the most common rescues for the RNLI in Conwy | :19:13. | :19:19.
is rescuing somebody when they have fallen into the sea from a boat. So | :19:20. | :19:25.
training volunteers in this kind of scenario is really important. Trevor | :19:26. | :19:31.
has been an RNLI volunteer since the station first opened 50 years ago. | :19:32. | :19:36.
What's happening now? We have located the casualty, and we need to | :19:37. | :19:40.
pick him up as quickly as possible and get him or her into the boat and | :19:41. | :19:46.
transferred them to the shore where in a real-life situation there would | :19:47. | :19:51.
be an ambulance waiting. They have grabbed onto the person and they are | :19:52. | :19:54.
literally dragging them into the boat. Once they get into the boat | :19:55. | :19:59.
it's really important to check they are OK. They would have to check him | :20:00. | :20:07.
over for hypothermia, perhaps wrap him in a foil blanket. They will | :20:08. | :20:11.
take him straight to shore and hopefully to a waiting ambulance. | :20:12. | :20:16.
Safely in the boat now. And he will head back to shore. How has | :20:17. | :20:20.
technology changed from when you first started to now? It's | :20:21. | :20:26.
completely different now, or modern life jackets and wet gear. The | :20:27. | :20:30.
equipment on the boat is vastly different. The boats themselves are | :20:31. | :20:33.
the same, virtually, but the equipment inside is completely | :20:34. | :20:39.
different. The equipment is so vital to the work you do. We have some | :20:40. | :20:44.
stats from the RNLI. The number of people killed off the UK coastline | :20:45. | :20:49.
in 2015 last year is the highest since records were first collected | :20:50. | :20:53.
in 2011. More people have died while walking or running along the coast | :20:54. | :20:58.
than any other activity. It highlights the work you do is of | :20:59. | :21:03.
paramount importance. There are more people getting into trouble now and | :21:04. | :21:08.
more people are safety conscious. So me people are doing this kind of | :21:09. | :21:11.
activity now. There are bound to be more accidents. Do you see any | :21:12. | :21:19.
difference in the accidents between winter and summer? You tend to get | :21:20. | :21:23.
less in the winter because you have more holiday-makers in the summer. | :21:24. | :21:27.
But in winter they can be more complicated and dangerous with the | :21:28. | :21:31.
cold water and rough weather. It's amazing to see the work you do. | :21:32. | :21:38.
Congratulations on just reaching 50 years of service. People are also | :21:39. | :21:45.
attracted to the breathtaking mountain roads here. | :21:46. | :21:52.
Stunning scenery, dramatic mountains and winding roads. Just some of the | :21:53. | :21:57.
reasons North Wales is a mecca for car and motorbike enthusiasts. The | :21:58. | :22:03.
twists and turns might be thrilling, but they are also risky. Tragically, | :22:04. | :22:11.
not all drivers make it home safely. Last year there were more than 1000 | :22:12. | :22:17.
serious collisions on the roads of North Wales and the police here are | :22:18. | :22:19.
determined to get those numbers down. It's a sunny Sunday morning on | :22:20. | :22:28.
a bank holiday weekend. Today, thousands of bikers and drivers will | :22:29. | :22:31.
make their way along these challenging roads. We are looking | :22:32. | :22:41.
for offences in terms of driving excess speed, careless and dangerous | :22:42. | :22:46.
driving. That's the priority. DC Ed Robinson has worked on the roads | :22:47. | :22:50.
team for 18 years. We are coming to a stretch of road that has been very | :22:51. | :22:55.
challenging in terms of corners, crests, dips. They put the cars | :22:56. | :23:01.
through the paces there, but it still subject to a 60 mph speed | :23:02. | :23:09.
restriction. He's soon spots three high-performance cars travelling at | :23:10. | :23:16.
speed. There is an Audi, a portion and a BMW. -- a Porsche. Over 80 mph | :23:17. | :23:33.
is the average speed. Time to stop them. Unfortunately the White Audi | :23:34. | :23:39.
has disappeared. Can you join me in the police car with your driving | :23:40. | :23:43.
licence. You have been driving at speed, touching 90 or 100 mph. I | :23:44. | :23:54.
will caution you now. Both drivers will be issued with a court summons | :23:55. | :24:00.
for speeding. Ed's colleagues have also stopped their friend in the | :24:01. | :24:04.
Audi further up the road. No regard for the speed or the traffic. It's | :24:05. | :24:09.
not your road, it could result in death. It's ridiculous. If you | :24:10. | :24:13.
travel at those speeds, somebody can die. But because Ed couldn't record | :24:14. | :24:21.
the Audi's speed, he has to to let the driver go with a warning. All | :24:22. | :24:27.
three drivers from outside the area, they are clearly intelligent people, | :24:28. | :24:32.
but it doesn't stop them coming here and driving, in the words of one of | :24:33. | :24:38.
them, like idiots. Ed spots some drivers he spotted earlier. Why do | :24:39. | :24:44.
you think we need a chat? What's the speed limit on this stretch of road? | :24:45. | :24:56.
60. Were you keeping to that? No. On the hill up there, somebody was | :24:57. | :25:00.
killed a few months ago because they were driving too fast. I will more | :25:01. | :25:04.
than happy facilitate you getting some points if you continue to drive | :25:05. | :25:09.
like that. The warm weather has also brought hundreds of motorcyclists to | :25:10. | :25:14.
the area. But with 84 riders seriously injured or killed on roads | :25:15. | :25:18.
last year, officers are keen to remind riders of the risks. The | :25:19. | :25:24.
chants is so much higher than being a general road user of a collision. | :25:25. | :25:32.
Motorcycle use is at 0.2% currently, but it represents 31% of the | :25:33. | :25:41.
fatalities on our roads. As Ed keeps a look out for bikers breaking the | :25:42. | :25:46.
rules, his attention is drawn to a rider with a rather unusual | :25:47. | :25:50.
technique. Quite why he is moving from side to side, I've absolutely | :25:51. | :25:56.
no idea. In the first instance, I'm going to breathalyse you to rule out | :25:57. | :26:03.
alcohol. The test is negative. As for the side to side technique, the | :26:04. | :26:08.
rider explains he was warming up his tyres. Ed sends him on his way with | :26:09. | :26:14.
a few words of advice. If you are up this way through the summer, police | :26:15. | :26:18.
are out in force every weekend. Your speed was no problem, you were going | :26:19. | :26:22.
steady and I could see that. Keep it like that, happy days. As his shift | :26:23. | :26:28.
draws to a close, he heads back to the station. We have protected the | :26:29. | :26:34.
public, colleagues have had arrests and reported other motorists. There | :26:35. | :26:37.
have been no serious collisions, so I would say it's been a successful | :26:38. | :26:39.
day. Great work. Now, last year, holidaymakers | :26:40. | :26:43.
in the UK were conned out of a staggering ?11.5 million - | :26:44. | :26:46.
with each victim losing Detective Inspector Katie Balls | :26:47. | :26:48.
from the City of London Police's National Fraud Intelligence Bureau | :26:49. | :26:54.
is here again to tell us more. Good to see you. It's an astonishing | :26:55. | :27:05.
figure. This kind of fraud seems to be increasing. Absolutely, it would | :27:06. | :27:11.
seem so. This year's figures for holiday fraud, we see they are more | :27:12. | :27:15.
than five times higher than the previous year. It might be more | :27:16. | :27:19.
people are aware and they are reporting, but there is certainly a | :27:20. | :27:23.
massive increase. How are people being targeted? One of the most | :27:24. | :27:27.
common methods we see is being targeted by airline tickets. So you | :27:28. | :27:31.
think you have bought yourself a flight and the ticket doesn't show | :27:32. | :27:36.
up. You might have done it online or on the phone. Last year we saw | :27:37. | :27:40.
destinations like India, Pakistan and Nigeria, long haul flights being | :27:41. | :27:46.
targeted. Sporting events are another risky area. Fraudsters are | :27:47. | :27:50.
keen to take advantage of people desperate to get to big events where | :27:51. | :27:54.
there is often limited flight availability. If you are trying to | :27:55. | :27:58.
get over to see the Euros in France or the Olympics in Rio, please take | :27:59. | :28:04.
extra care. If you get to your destination the accommodation itself | :28:05. | :28:08.
can be a problem. We also know fraudsters can post fake profiles | :28:09. | :28:14.
online on accommodation websites and property either for rent or a | :28:15. | :28:18.
holiday for sale. We know these properties either don't exist, or if | :28:19. | :28:22.
they do, they are not likely to be owned by the person trying to rent | :28:23. | :28:24.
them to you. Well, someone who's | :28:25. | :28:25.
experienced this first hand He thought he'd booked | :28:26. | :28:27.
a family holiday to France - but he'd actually transferred ?700 | :28:28. | :28:31.
straight into a scammers My wife asked me to contact the | :28:32. | :28:42.
owner about bedding and sheets and towels. That was about a month after | :28:43. | :28:50.
we had made the booking, and there wasn't any answer. I sent more | :28:51. | :28:56.
e-mails, still no answer. At that point I had a horrible feeling, I | :28:57. | :29:01.
suppose. It was absolutely awful, not just the money but the loss of | :29:02. | :29:06.
the holiday. Thousands of people like Andrew are being targeted. Are | :29:07. | :29:10.
there any patterns they look for as to who they will approach? We see a | :29:11. | :29:18.
larger proportion of victims in their 30s and 40s, often with young | :29:19. | :29:22.
families, and the generation used to booking these things online. Summer | :29:23. | :29:29.
time we see a peak in these months. But also Christmas and other holiday | :29:30. | :29:34.
times when people are panicked into booking last-minute flights. What | :29:35. | :29:38.
are your top tips to avoid being scammed? Booking a holiday is | :29:39. | :29:41.
exciting and you want to get it booked online quickly and get the | :29:42. | :29:47.
best deal. But as with so much activity online, it's about taking a | :29:48. | :29:51.
step back and taking a few extra minutes to do some basic checks. | :29:52. | :29:55.
Really do your research and don't rely on one or two reviews online. | :29:56. | :29:59.
Check thoroughly and check the credentials of the company you are | :30:00. | :30:04.
booking with. Ensure they are a member of a registered trade body | :30:05. | :30:14.
like Abda. There is great advice on their website. Always pay with a | :30:15. | :30:17.
credit card or debit card that is protected. Anything less than that | :30:18. | :30:20.
and you might as well just hand the fraudster a load of cash. | :30:21. | :30:22.
And you'll be here again next Monday with details | :30:23. | :30:25.
Now Michelle - you're in the holiday hotspot of Conwy this morning. | :30:26. | :30:31.
No problems with your accommodation I hope? | :30:32. | :30:42.
I'm on the coastal path, it is quite a difficult stretch to police, which | :30:43. | :30:48.
is why PCSO Chris Perkins travels around by bike. Tell us more about | :30:49. | :30:52.
the areas you patrol. I patrol what is called the estuary beat, down the | :30:53. | :30:57.
coastal path all the way to Llandudno. I speak with the locals | :30:58. | :31:02.
and tourists alike on my bike. You cover everyday crimes as well as | :31:03. | :31:07.
bigger ones? Yes, we look at petty crimes but on a bigger scale will at | :31:08. | :31:11.
a national project called Project Kraken, looking at illegal imports, | :31:12. | :31:16.
drug smuggling and terrorism. Not so long ago around the coast we had a | :31:17. | :31:19.
good seizure of cocaine from three boats as a result of information | :31:20. | :31:25.
from Project Kraken, which people can contact us on 101 if you see | :31:26. | :31:29.
anything suspicious on the water. It is a busy day, I will leave you to | :31:30. | :31:31.
it, thank you. Now, there are lots of wild birds | :31:32. | :31:33.
here on the waterfront in Conwy Unbelievably attacks on birds | :31:34. | :31:38.
are on the increase. In Stockport, animal welfare | :31:39. | :31:43.
officers are trying to track down the person behind | :31:44. | :31:45.
a particularly cruel incident. Over the years, RSPCA officer | :31:46. | :31:57.
Stephen Wickham has rescued hundreds of animals in distress, but even he | :31:58. | :32:01.
was shocked by a call he received back in April this year to help a | :32:02. | :32:05.
Canadian Goose on a lake in Stockport. We had a phone call on | :32:06. | :32:11.
the Sunday lunchtime with regards to a goose with an object through it. | :32:12. | :32:18.
You think, well, it will be a stick stuck in its feathers or something | :32:19. | :32:21.
like that, but it was actually an arrow right the way through the | :32:22. | :32:26.
goose. As well as the RSPCA, the local fire brigade was called in to | :32:27. | :32:31.
help with the rescue, which Stephen filmed. We corralled him into the | :32:32. | :32:35.
corner and managed to catch him in the reeds. He was in a bit of | :32:36. | :32:40.
distress. It went in through the top, missing the heart by | :32:41. | :32:44.
millimetres, and write out through the bottom. The goose was taken to | :32:45. | :32:50.
the RSPCA's wildlife Hospital in Cheshire. He underwent an emergency | :32:51. | :32:54.
operation to remove the 31 inch arrow. So far, the person who fired | :32:55. | :33:02.
the crossbow hasn't been caught. It could easily have happened that they | :33:03. | :33:07.
had a child or a person with it, causing unnecessary suffering to | :33:08. | :33:11.
animals is against the law. They could be prosecuted under the Animal | :33:12. | :33:14.
Welfare Act or the wildlife and countryside act. But there was a | :33:15. | :33:18.
happy ending for the goose. After two weeks he made a full recovery. | :33:19. | :33:23.
It was time for Stephen to release him back into the wild. Nice warm | :33:24. | :33:31.
day for him to be released. As far as we know, he has got a mate on the | :33:32. | :33:35.
pond, hopefully he will leave here for the rest of his life and no | :33:36. | :33:42.
mishaps. I'm really pleased that he's managed to survive and we have | :33:43. | :33:44.
managed to get him back to the wild. Now the RSPCA are in no | :33:45. | :33:49.
doubt that this crossbow attack at the Mere Lake | :33:50. | :33:51.
in Stockport was deliberate. It happened on, or shortly before, | :33:52. | :33:55.
Sunday 17th April this year - if you any information at all, | :33:56. | :33:57.
please get in touch. Now it's time for a look | :33:58. | :34:03.
at today's Wanted Faces. Police forces around the country | :34:04. | :34:07.
are asking for your We start this week with | :34:08. | :34:09.
Charles Edward Adcock, He was arrested in connection | :34:10. | :34:12.
with sex offences and released on bail, but has failed to return | :34:13. | :34:16.
for further questioning. Adcock is 57, but also | :34:17. | :34:18.
claims to be 59. He has strong ties to the Norfolk | :34:19. | :34:20.
area and Wiltshire but may now be sporting a beard | :34:21. | :34:23.
and possibly living rough. Next up is Lee Kelly, but he calls | :34:24. | :34:44.
himself Stephen Kelly and was 36 last week, he has links to | :34:45. | :34:48.
Manchester as well as Scotland and Europe. He has a Mancunian accent, a | :34:49. | :34:53.
gold tooth, and numerous scars on his head. Police say he is dangerous | :34:54. | :34:57.
and should not be approached, just dial 999 if you know where he is. | :34:58. | :35:06.
He was due to appear before Grimsby Crown Court in connection | :35:07. | :35:10.
with a robbery in which a couple were threatened with | :35:11. | :35:13.
a firearm in their home, but he didn't turn up. | :35:14. | :35:15.
Shakes is 28 and has a West Midlands accent. | :35:16. | :35:17.
He has links to Grimsby and Birmingham. | :35:18. | :35:19.
Detectives want to question him after drugs and an automatic gun | :35:20. | :35:23.
with ammunition were found at an house in Bedfordshire. | :35:24. | :35:25.
Rozalski is originally from Poland and now has friends in Luton. | :35:26. | :35:28.
If you recognise any of these faces make sure you pick up the phone. | :35:29. | :35:33.
Next to Manchester, where police need your help to reunite | :35:34. | :35:36.
a vulnerable veteran with his prized possession. | :35:37. | :35:45.
83-year-old ex-servicemen Frank Marchington from Wales were in | :35:46. | :35:54.
Manchester served in the Marines for 32 years. I was in the special unit | :35:55. | :36:00.
in the Marines, called the Special Boat Service. We did the recce on | :36:01. | :36:09.
the beaches before the landing craft came in. He and wife Lily have been | :36:10. | :36:15.
married for 58 years and together have four children. A very good dad, | :36:16. | :36:19.
yes. Wouldn't change him for the world! Here's a good husband, he has | :36:20. | :36:25.
always been a good husband. I've never been without anything. | :36:26. | :36:29.
Valentine's Day, always took me out, red rose the table, but not for the | :36:30. | :36:39.
last 10-year leg in 2005, Frank was diagnosed with our climate and his | :36:40. | :36:43.
condition has recently deteriorated and he needs full-time care from his | :36:44. | :36:47.
family. It is sad, really, because I know what kind of man he was, and I | :36:48. | :36:55.
feel sorry for him. Obviously I know things -- I wish things were not | :36:56. | :37:02.
like they are, but you have just got to get on with it. Frank's memories | :37:03. | :37:07.
fading but one treasured possession means everything to him. He was | :37:08. | :37:10.
awarded a valuable Omega Constellation watchful and beating a | :37:11. | :37:14.
special assignment in Bahrain. It was a present from the Marines -- | :37:15. | :37:19.
for completing a special assignment. It was like a souvenir for me. He | :37:20. | :37:24.
did not where it every day, never, ever. He must have just fancied | :37:25. | :37:29.
putting it on that night. He kept telling my brother all day it was | :37:30. | :37:33.
his birthday, and I think that is why he probably put the watch on, | :37:34. | :37:36.
because he thought it was a special occasion. On the evening of Monday | :37:37. | :37:44.
the 4th of April, Frank put on his favourite watch and left the house. | :37:45. | :37:51.
We heard the doorbell, and he had gone. -- we heard the door go. Still | :37:52. | :38:00.
likes a pint, likes a drink, even though he shouldn't with his | :38:01. | :38:03.
medication, but he will escape if he can to the pub! Frank had made the | :38:04. | :38:08.
same journey hundreds of times before. He was heading towards the | :38:09. | :38:12.
Nelson Tavern on the corner of Lord Lane and Tunes Road. But he never | :38:13. | :38:23.
arrived. They just came from behind. Hit me. Knocked me to the floor. | :38:24. | :38:32.
Took my watch. And obviously my wallet. Confused and shaken, Frank | :38:33. | :38:47.
staggered home. But when he walked in at around 9:30pm, he didn't | :38:48. | :38:52.
mention the attack. He came back and I said, that was quick. No in. He | :38:53. | :38:59.
seemed worked up and angry and I just thought, well, there was no one | :39:00. | :39:04.
in and that is what has upset him. But the following morning he told | :39:05. | :39:07.
his family what had happened. He just came out and said, it was that | :39:08. | :39:13.
lad, he took it off me. Debra and Lily then noticed a lump on head. At | :39:14. | :39:18.
that point I said, if that is the case, we need to phone the police, | :39:19. | :39:22.
we need to report this, it is serious. Police are appealing for | :39:23. | :39:30.
witnesses to help them solve this callous crime. This is the location | :39:31. | :39:33.
we think the attack occurred, halfway between the road and the | :39:34. | :39:41.
Nelson Tavern public house. Unfortunately because of Frank's | :39:42. | :39:44.
dementia he was not able to give us a clear description but he says | :39:45. | :39:47.
there was one male and possibly affected male with them at the time. | :39:48. | :39:52.
We think this could have been a targeted attack and Frank could have | :39:53. | :39:55.
told someone in the community that he had this watch. He was a very | :39:56. | :39:59.
formidable man. It has been two months since the attack and Frank is | :40:00. | :40:03.
still distraught about the theft of his precious watch -- he was a | :40:04. | :40:12.
vulnerable man. He used to go upstairs and come down and say, | :40:13. | :40:15.
where is my watch? I would have to tell the story again, what had | :40:16. | :40:18.
happened. A few years ago, nobody would have taken that watch of my | :40:19. | :40:22.
dad, so from that point of view I think he was angry and really upset. | :40:23. | :40:26.
He had had it all those years and then someone just takes it. It is | :40:27. | :40:28.
disgusting. And PC Lee Cullen has been | :40:29. | :40:34.
involved with this case - remind us again about Frank's | :40:35. | :40:38.
movements that evening. The incident occurred between 8:30pm | :40:39. | :40:47.
and 9:30pm on Monday the 4th of April this year. Frank left his home | :40:48. | :40:51.
address in Failsworth and walked on Lord Lane to his local pub. Lord | :40:52. | :40:54.
Lane is quite a busy thoroughfare and lots of cars were passing by, | :40:55. | :40:59.
pedestrians passing by, and we are appealing to anyone that might have | :41:00. | :41:02.
seen this attack. Frank was wearing dark trousers and a dark cardigan. | :41:03. | :41:08.
The watch was quite distinctive? It was, and Omega Constellation watch, | :41:09. | :41:13.
and, like the picture, Frank's watch had a bronze face and on the rear | :41:14. | :41:17.
was a triangle stamp and the words venison and the serial number. The | :41:18. | :41:22.
watch meant a lot to Frank, he had had it for 50 years, it had great | :41:23. | :41:26.
sentimental value and we are appealing to anybody if they have | :41:27. | :41:29.
seen the watch or had it up to them to come forward to the police and | :41:30. | :41:33.
give them the information. Thank you so much. If you have any | :41:34. | :41:37.
information, please do get in contact with us. You can also | :41:38. | :41:40.
contact anonymously using Crimestoppers. Rav, back to you. | :41:41. | :41:50.
To stand for an update on the calls so far, and we have had good | :41:51. | :41:53.
information on the CCTV we showed you on Friday of the armed robbery | :41:54. | :41:57.
at a car dealership in Nottingham. Officers are chasing that up as we | :41:58. | :41:59.
