We're on the road once again with police, and we need your

:00:00.:00:08.

On today's show, the reckless act of vandalism, which nearly cost

:00:09.:00:12.

I saw the hole in the windscreen, felt the pain in my chest.

:00:13.:00:24.

I felt like I'd just been pinned to my chair.

:00:25.:00:26.

And there was just pain radiating to every part of my body.

:00:27.:00:29.

And I'm getting in the saddle, finding out how police are keeping

:00:30.:00:32.

Hello, and welcome to Crimewatch Roadshow.

:00:33.:01:07.

As always, we need your help to solve the crimes

:01:08.:01:10.

Also today, the opportunist thief who ran a man down with his own car.

:01:11.:01:13.

It was only when the paramedics put me in the ambulance,

:01:14.:01:15.

only then I realised what had happened.

:01:16.:01:18.

And, caught on camera - the armed gang that made

:01:19.:01:20.

So many people on that route on that day had got cameras with them -

:01:21.:01:27.

it's unlucky for them, but it's great for us.

:01:28.:01:31.

Today, Michelle is back in Manchester.

:01:32.:01:34.

We're at the Museum of Transport, and it's rather apt, really,

:01:35.:01:42.

as today we're looking at crime on the move.

:01:43.:01:45.

Later, we'll be out and about with police as they take

:01:46.:01:48.

to two wheels themselves to catch drivers putting cyclists at risk.

:01:49.:01:53.

Now, to our first appeal, and for a tram driver whose day

:01:54.:01:57.

Manchester's metrolink is now the largest light Railway in the UK. It

:01:58.:02:17.

covers almost 60 miles, with a fleet of close to 100 trams. And driver

:02:18.:02:24.

Sean has been operating metrolink trams for two years. The main thing

:02:25.:02:30.

I enjoy about it is the challenge of driving a tram, and driving it

:02:31.:02:33.

around the city and actually helping Manchester as a whole. I am

:02:34.:02:40.

Manchester born and bred. Driving a tram, it is levels of concentration,

:02:41.:02:45.

maintaining the safety of passengers. I personally feel it is

:02:46.:02:49.

the best job I have ever done, I enjoy it, I always look forward

:02:50.:02:52.

coming into work and not many people can say that. Looking forward to

:02:53.:03:00.

coming to work in the morning. On the 8th of May, Sean was working

:03:01.:03:05.

from mid-afternoon, and was chewed to finish soon after midnight. I was

:03:06.:03:11.

just plodding on, doing what I was doing, it really was just a

:03:12.:03:17.

run-of-the-mill day when I was just getting on doing my job. Going on,

:03:18.:03:21.

enjoyed my break, had a little chat and a laugh of the guys I work with.

:03:22.:03:26.

By around 9:30pm, the end of his shift was inside. I was heading to

:03:27.:03:32.

Rochdale for the second time of the day. The tram left the burqas.

:03:33.:03:38.

Anthony a footbridge, which run over the tracks. It was dark, just past

:03:39.:03:46.

twilight, so it very, very dark. Hit 50 mph. I didn't actually see

:03:47.:04:01.

anything happen. It was the white flash of the glass exploding out of

:04:02.:04:09.

the windscreen. Every thought in my head, it was literally the biggest

:04:10.:04:16.

shock I've had in my life. Shattered glass flew into Sean's face. The

:04:17.:04:20.

class went everywhere in the cab, hit my face. The huge chunk of

:04:21.:04:28.

stones slammed into the cab and fit Sean in the torso. I saw the hole in

:04:29.:04:34.

the windscreen, and felt the pain in my chest. I felt like I had just

:04:35.:04:39.

been pinned to my chair with the impact, and it was just pain

:04:40.:04:43.

radiating to every part of my body. Adrenaline and training kicked in,

:04:44.:04:48.

as Sean activated the driver safety device to stop the tram and raised

:04:49.:04:54.

the alarm. The last thing I remember was lying in the glass, and hearing

:04:55.:04:57.

the alarm of the driver safety device activated. Sean blacked out.

:04:58.:05:10.

A short time later, he came to. There were passengers banging on the

:05:11.:05:15.

cab door. Using all his strength, Sean managed to reach the handle to

:05:16.:05:21.

let passengers in. With help, Sean was able to drive the tram to the

:05:22.:05:24.

next Asian, where an ambulance was waiting. -- to the next station. The

:05:25.:05:30.

driver could have been killed of that slab had hit on the head, the

:05:31.:05:35.

tram could have derailed, anything could have happened, really.

:05:36.:05:40.

Miraculously, Sean suffered no major injuries this reckless act. I had a

:05:41.:05:48.

deep impact winter my chest and lots of small cuts, it could have been a

:05:49.:05:52.

lot worse. If that rock was 12 inches higher, it would have

:05:53.:05:55.

impacted my face and it would have been a totally different story. They

:05:56.:06:00.

very lucky escape. Although his recovery is going well, Sean is

:06:01.:06:03.

still getting over the trauma caused by the crash. Physically, I feel

:06:04.:06:08.

beaten, I am just constantly sore, not sleeping well. Psychologically,

:06:09.:06:15.

there is quite a lot of fear, just nervousness, general nervousness.

:06:16.:06:17.

Certain things I don't feel ready to do yet. I don't feel comfortable

:06:18.:06:22.

going into a tram cab at this moment in time. This person who has injured

:06:23.:06:27.

me has taken the choice out of my life.

:06:28.:06:30.

And Inspector Cecelia Oakley from Greater Manchester Police's

:06:31.:06:33.

We saw in the film just what a frightening experience it must have

:06:34.:06:43.

been for Sean. Not only that, it could have been a lot worse.

:06:44.:06:47.

Absolutely, when you look at the size of the slab that has gone

:06:48.:06:51.

through the window and the height it was thrown from, potentially it

:06:52.:06:54.

could have hit him on the head and cause serious injuries or a

:06:55.:06:59.

fatality. And whoever did this, you know, they are probably not aware of

:07:00.:07:02.

the consequences and the seriousness of the offence. That said, and as

:07:03.:07:07.

you say, it is lucky he was wearing glasses. Yes, so when the window

:07:08.:07:11.

smashed, his eyes were protected from the shards of glass. Where

:07:12.:07:18.

exactly did this happen? At durch in Oldham, over the top of the

:07:19.:07:25.

footbridge, which is in a quiet area of Oldham, plenty of stones around,

:07:26.:07:29.

and children play in that area as well. On the positive side, there

:07:30.:07:32.

have been proactive steps that have been put in place to make our trams

:07:33.:07:38.

and buses safer. Yes, in the aftermath of the incident there was

:07:39.:07:42.

high visibility patrols in the area, and since then we have recruited up

:07:43.:07:47.

to 50 PCS ohs, and they will be doing proactive work on trams and

:07:48.:07:53.

buses, reassurance, and dealing with any incidents of anti-social

:07:54.:07:56.

behaviour on the trams and buses. That is really good to hear. Thank

:07:57.:07:58.

you very much. If you can help, call now,

:07:59.:08:03.

using the numbers on screen. And it's worth knowing that

:08:04.:08:06.

victims of any crime can Next up, do you recognise any

:08:07.:08:11.

of today's criminals caught on CCTV? Just so you know, these

:08:12.:08:19.

are pretty serious. It's mid-morning on this busy street

:08:20.:08:30.

in Luton. Pay close attention to this bloke getting out of the park

:08:31.:08:36.

car in the right-hand corner of the screen. He hangs around for quite

:08:37.:08:43.

some time. What is he waiting for? A while later, a dark coloured vehicle

:08:44.:08:47.

pulls up and a man gets out. The bloke waiting spots him, and makes

:08:48.:08:51.

sure he catches his attention before heading over to engage him in

:08:52.:08:57.

conversation. All seems friendly, but out of nowhere the bloke throws

:08:58.:09:02.

a liquid into the man's face, who panics and runs off. The attacker

:09:03.:09:07.

sprints to his car and makes his getaway at speed. Police would like

:09:08.:09:13.

to speak to this man, captured on CCTV earlier that morning in the

:09:14.:09:16.

nearby shop, asking when the victim would arrive. The victim suffered

:09:17.:09:22.

minor scarring from the industrial fluid used, and this vicious and

:09:23.:09:25.

premeditated attack has greatly affected him. Now police need your

:09:26.:09:33.

help to catch his cowardly attack. -- attacker. It's the night shift at

:09:34.:09:38.

a garage in Staffordshire. Things are about to get a little hectic.

:09:39.:09:44.

Keep an eye on these hooded men making their way inside. They aren't

:09:45.:09:48.

here to pay for petrol, but they definitely want to fuel up on

:09:49.:09:53.

something. One of them threatens the shop assistant with bolt cutters,

:09:54.:09:59.

demanding he hand over the takings. Another impatient robber jumps

:10:00.:10:01.

over-the-counter, and viciously punches him in the face. Eventually,

:10:02.:10:07.

the cash draws are unlocked, and they help themselves, which is when

:10:08.:10:10.

we see the third sidekick come along. This one decides to act as a

:10:11.:10:17.

lookout, but when a customer tries to leave, he gets aggressive and

:10:18.:10:22.

lashes out, throwing punches, before eventually letting the guy go. When

:10:23.:10:27.

the cash draws are empty, the next stop is the cigarette cabinet, and

:10:28.:10:32.

now we see the fourth rubber. He whisks away their box of spoils,

:10:33.:10:36.

while the other one clutches as many scratchcards as you can. Neither of

:10:37.:10:41.

the victims were badly injured, but police need to find the four men who

:10:42.:10:48.

stole over ?2000 worth of goods. If you know who they are, you know what

:10:49.:10:49.

to do. If you can identify anyone,

:10:50.:10:53.

we need to hear from you now. Text CW, space,

:10:54.:10:56.

and then your message. Texts will be charged

:10:57.:11:01.

at your standard message rate. The address is [email protected]

:11:02.:11:03.

or you can also speak Millions of us take

:11:04.:11:09.

to our bikes every week and Greater Manchester Police

:11:10.:11:18.

are determined to do everything Last year, 3.5 million miles were

:11:19.:11:35.

cycled in the UK, and in Manchester more people than ever are taking the

:11:36.:11:41.

two wheels. But when cars and bikes share the road, things can go wrong.

:11:42.:11:46.

The latest figures for the city show there were over 400 cyclists injured

:11:47.:11:51.

in road accidents in one year, and three fatalities. Sharing the road

:11:52.:11:55.

responsibly has never been so important. To tackle the problem,

:11:56.:12:02.

Greater Manchester Police have launched a scheme to help motorists

:12:03.:12:08.

overtake bikes safely. And cracking down on those who don't. You must

:12:09.:12:17.

give a cyclist at least 1.5 metres. If you cannot safely overtake a

:12:18.:12:22.

cyclist, you hang back, you don't tailgate them and put them under any

:12:23.:12:25.

pressure and wait for a safe place to overtake. What they don't realise

:12:26.:12:30.

is that if you pass to close to a cyclist it could result in putting

:12:31.:12:34.

them off cycling forever. Kieron Darbyshire works as a cycle career.

:12:35.:12:40.

One day in May, one driver got a little too close. All I hear is this

:12:41.:12:49.

exhaust, and then that was it, I just got belted. My head hit the

:12:50.:12:52.

ground first, and the next thing I know I have come to with people

:12:53.:12:59.

stood over me. Luckily, Kieron escaped without major injuries, but

:13:00.:13:01.

he's well aware things could have turned out very differently. My hips

:13:02.:13:07.

hurt, my ankles hurt, my wrists and my back hurt. I could not walk that

:13:08.:13:12.

well for maybe a couple of days. I would just be wobbling around. It

:13:13.:13:16.

probably wasn't until afterwards when it's kind of kicked in that I

:13:17.:13:20.

had been hit by a car, and I'm quite lucky that I am still around,

:13:21.:13:26.

really. Keen to cut down on collisions like this, today Greater

:13:27.:13:28.

Manchester Police have come to sail in Trafford, to pick up drivers who

:13:29.:13:34.

are not obeying the Highway code, but in order to catch them, they

:13:35.:13:39.

must take to the streets themselves. We act as a member of the public and

:13:40.:13:43.

we have cameras on the front and rear of our bicycle, we were right

:13:44.:13:47.

in the areas where complaint had been received and we wait for a

:13:48.:13:51.

vehicle to drive close to us. PCS oh Steph Payne is out on her bike and

:13:52.:13:55.

only minutes into the operation she encounters her first near miss. A

:13:56.:14:00.

man in a black Ford focus overtakes but becomes too close for comfort.

:14:01.:14:05.

Driver, this way! Do you know how much space you

:14:06.:14:17.

should give a cyclist? This man could face three points and a fine

:14:18.:14:22.

of ?100. Instead, he is happy to accept the free education on offer

:14:23.:14:28.

today. I will show you visual representation. You have got to give

:14:29.:14:31.

them at least one and a half metres. What do you think if you cannot

:14:32.:14:36.

safely overtake, what will happen? It will not end well for the

:14:37.:14:41.

cyclist. The driver has learnt his lesson but more keep coming in. A

:14:42.:14:46.

woman in a red Ford comes dangerously close. Read Ford Fiesta

:14:47.:14:53.

coming at you. She is pulled over. She should have hung back and waited

:14:54.:14:59.

until there was a clearing and put her indicator on, but she decided to

:15:00.:15:04.

squeeze in between me and the vehicle. Cameras on the front and

:15:05.:15:07.

rear and she is not happy about the way you have passed her. I

:15:08.:15:14.

apologise. I will not give you a ticket today. I did not realise I

:15:15.:15:19.

was that close, but next time I will go out a bit further. Today the team

:15:20.:15:24.

have caught seven drivers passing too close. But GMP are also

:15:25.:15:29.

encouraging members of the public to send in footage of incidents they

:15:30.:15:33.

have captured themselves, meaning it is now easier than ever for those

:15:34.:15:38.

drivers to be held accountable. Avid cyclist Graeme had a close call

:15:39.:15:42.

riding with his granddaughter on the back. He sent the footage to Greater

:15:43.:15:50.

Manchester Police. It made me quite angry because if you were driving a

:15:51.:15:54.

car near to your own child, would you drive at 30 miles an hour. A

:15:55.:15:58.

foot away from them. I cannot understand that at all. In his 50

:15:59.:16:04.

years cycling, he has encountered bad road users. There are a small

:16:05.:16:09.

number of drivers who either are not aware they should be giving you more

:16:10.:16:13.

space or in some very red cases actually are deliberately

:16:14.:16:19.

aggressive. -- rare cases. He is reassured by the approach the police

:16:20.:16:25.

are now taking. In this initiative, I have submitted many videos and I

:16:26.:16:28.

know some of those are going forward for prosecution and there is

:16:29.:16:31.

confidence it will go somewhere, somebody who understands the issues,

:16:32.:16:37.

you know they will take action. Officers hoped that by reminding

:16:38.:16:41.

motorists how to share the road, they can save lives. That tarmac we

:16:42.:16:47.

are driving on is not getting bigger, not getting any wider, and

:16:48.:16:53.

we have to respect the road. We certainly do.

:16:54.:16:55.

And Gareth Walker, who we heard from in that film, is with me now.

:16:56.:16:59.

Gareth, these near misses are really frightening.

:17:00.:17:01.

On the horse or a cycle, you have to give space. It is in the Highway

:17:02.:17:08.

Code. Just last week, you've had

:17:09.:17:12.

an incredibly near miss submitted If you see how close the cyclist is,

:17:13.:17:26.

it is millimetres from a potentially fatal or life changing collision.

:17:27.:17:32.

People do not realise you have to give vulnerable road users say. How

:17:33.:17:37.

can people get footage like this to you? Through the Operation

:17:38.:17:45.

Considerate, we are able to look at the footage online, so you send us a

:17:46.:17:49.

quick information via the e-mail address on our website, time, date,

:17:50.:17:53.

location, what has happened, whether you are driving, on a horse,

:17:54.:17:59.

bicycle, we will look at it and send it away for prosecution. The person

:18:00.:18:04.

you saw in the clip will be currently receiving a notice of

:18:05.:18:08.

intended prosecution. That is fantastic. Thank you very much. It

:18:09.:18:12.

is worth mentioning the scheme Gareth was talking about is only for

:18:13.:18:15.

people in Greater Manchester but there are similar schemes in North

:18:16.:18:20.

Wales, Cheshire and elsewhere. Transport for Greater Manchester

:18:21.:18:26.

want 10% of all journeys to be by bike or 2025. They have built many

:18:27.:18:30.

more cycle lanes and they run adult education cycle classes, to increase

:18:31.:18:34.

people's confidence on the rules of the road and make them feel more

:18:35.:18:37.

comfortable. One of the cycle instructors is with me now.

:18:38.:18:42.

Lawrence. What kind of things do you teach people? To use more of the

:18:43.:18:45.

road, make ourselves more visible, to try to encourage drivers to slow

:18:46.:18:49.

down. We do that by putting ourselves further into the road. It

:18:50.:19:01.

seems counterintuitive but it works because it makes drivers think about

:19:02.:19:03.

us. Nobody wants to run us down but sometimes they do not think. We

:19:04.:19:05.

teach cyclist to take possession more and more of the road. Being

:19:06.:19:08.

more visible is important, isn't it? It is, we do not do it by hiding by

:19:09.:19:12.

the pavement. It is raising the awareness. It is good to get out and

:19:13.:19:19.

feel confident. We see adult trainees from absolute beginners to

:19:20.:19:23.

professional cyclists, almost, it is fabulous. Thank you. I had better

:19:24.:19:30.

get some practice in myself! Get my helmet on and get going, Rav!

:19:31.:19:35.

Lots more to come this morning, including the footage that

:19:36.:19:37.

It's become a big part of policing today and it's making

:19:38.:19:46.

And the car enthusiast who lost his car and nearly

:19:47.:19:51.

I didn't know how bad of an injury it was.

:19:52.:19:59.

But first, the number of people trespassing on railway tracks has

:20:00.:20:02.

More than 8,000 people annually risk their life on the tracks.

:20:03.:20:12.

I'm joined by Inspector Becky Warren of the British Transport Police.

:20:13.:20:19.

Messing around on the railway lines is a really bad idea, isn't it?

:20:20.:20:27.

Totally. Trains can go at 125 miles an hour, you have got electricity,

:20:28.:20:32.

in the overheads or the third rail, very dangerous places to be. You

:20:33.:20:37.

should not be anywhere near the tracks. A few days ago, awful news

:20:38.:20:42.

about a youngster losing his life. On Tuesday, this week, a young

:20:43.:20:47.

person was basically electrocuted. Very tragic. People like you have to

:20:48.:20:52.

break the news, you have to do this many times. I have done it

:20:53.:20:56.

personally over 50 times and I do not want to do it again, it nor do

:20:57.:21:02.

my colleagues. We can see how dangerous it is here. What are we

:21:03.:21:07.

seeing? Someone walking up to a barrier, and it looks like he is

:21:08.:21:11.

lifting a small child over the barrier. You have got children being

:21:12.:21:15.

lifted over, they are now lifting the pram over, climbing over the

:21:16.:21:20.

barrier. As of the barriers are down, we are expecting a train, that

:21:21.:21:23.

is the point of them. They are risking their own lives and worse,

:21:24.:21:28.

they are risking their children's lives. The barriers are down for a

:21:29.:21:32.

very good reason. More clips, we can see people climbing across the

:21:33.:21:36.

tracks, the train is coming, seconds away. Another trying to climb up

:21:37.:21:42.

here. This person looks, I don't know if they are intoxicated, that

:21:43.:21:47.

was so close. And another one here... That chap, he is lucky to

:21:48.:21:53.

get away with his life. He could have lost his limbs. Really

:21:54.:21:59.

dangerous. Dancing with death, but there are other consequences as

:22:00.:22:04.

well, on a criminal point of view. Absolutely. Trespassing on the

:22:05.:22:08.

railway is an offence, you can be fined up to ?1000. We tried to

:22:09.:22:11.

educate people, give them different things we do, but they could end up

:22:12.:22:17.

in jail, worst case. People might not realise, it is a criminal

:22:18.:22:21.

offence, they could get a criminal record for trying to save a few

:22:22.:22:24.

seconds, it is not worth it. It is not at all. How are you tackling the

:22:25.:22:31.

problem? We are increasing patrols, especially in the summer months. We

:22:32.:22:35.

also have a programme called reality check, that is about getting the

:22:36.:22:39.

campaign out to parents, do they know where their kids are? Have they

:22:40.:22:44.

talk to them about rail safety? Do they know how dangerous the railway

:22:45.:22:48.

is? We are working with Network Rail and having offices in the control

:22:49.:22:51.

room to target the hotspots. Brilliant. Thank you so much for

:22:52.:22:56.

coming in. We really need to get that message across. Do not do it.

:22:57.:22:58.

Michelle. We saw earlier how police forces

:22:59.:23:01.

are moving with the times and using footage from members

:23:02.:23:04.

of the public to prosecute people But detectives could never have

:23:05.:23:06.

imagined the evidence they'd get when they appealed to the public

:23:07.:23:12.

for help after a violent robbery. In January this year, an armed gang

:23:13.:23:29.

carried out an audacious robbery of over ?16,000. Planned to the last

:23:30.:23:33.

detail, there was just one thing the robbers had not reckoned with. The

:23:34.:23:44.

eyes and ears of the public. On Wednesday, 18th of January, a guard

:23:45.:23:48.

arrived at a supermarket in Newton Heath near Manchester and began his

:23:49.:23:52.

work collecting cash from the back of the store. The G4S guard at the

:23:53.:23:58.

time was moving boxes of cash from Asda and taking empty ones into the

:23:59.:24:02.

building. But someone else had their eyes on the money. As the guard

:24:03.:24:07.

returned to his van with the loaded cash box, two men sped up on a

:24:08.:24:13.

motorbike. CCTV and body camera footage captured the attack. Open

:24:14.:24:22.

up! SHOUTING

:24:23.:24:31.

He was very aggressive towards the security guard, threaten to blind

:24:32.:24:33.

him, repeatedly, with ammonia solution. Leaving him in no

:24:34.:24:43.

uncertain terms, he could suffer a serious injury. The cash box the

:24:44.:24:47.

guard handed over contained ?16,000. The robber grabbed two bags holding

:24:48.:24:52.

around ?800 and made his escape. It was very fast, the way they made

:24:53.:25:04.

off, high-powered bike, they knew what they were doing, they had a

:25:05.:25:09.

route plan. They had also planned the next stage of their getaway

:25:10.:25:11.

which involved meeting a third person. In the green lane area of

:25:12.:25:18.

Manchester, they met up with a white van to make their escape easier,

:25:19.:25:22.

unnoticed. The trio tried desperately to open the box, but

:25:23.:25:26.

they were spotted by some local builders. The cash box proved hard

:25:27.:25:29.

to open, they were reversing the car into it against the wall, they did

:25:30.:25:34.

it a number of times, but they were being watched and they were

:25:35.:25:36.

conscious of that, so they loaded it back into the vehicle and made off.

:25:37.:25:40.

As the gang headed for the country lanes, the van was seen again.

:25:41.:25:46.

Second call from a lady on horseback. She described seeing a

:25:47.:25:52.

white van at speed inappropriate to the road, driving dangerously. That

:25:53.:25:56.

lady had a head camp on her helmet, she filmed the van and you could see

:25:57.:26:04.

it flying up the narrow road -- headcam. Narrowly avoiding colliding

:26:05.:26:08.

with a taxi. They made a last bid to avoid being caught and abandoned the

:26:09.:26:11.

van but again they were caught on camera, this time by two passing

:26:12.:26:20.

drivers. One dashcam caught the driver in red leaving the vehicle.

:26:21.:26:25.

The other captured the second robber as he ran away still carrying the

:26:26.:26:29.

cash and followed him as he fled into a nearby field. Suspicious at

:26:30.:26:33.

what he had seen, this driver followed the robber into the car

:26:34.:26:38.

park of a nearby pub. Last sighting coming across the bottom of the

:26:39.:26:41.

field, hops over the fence, inadvertently looks towards the

:26:42.:26:48.

vehicle, the dash cam, you see him carrying the cash bags, crosses the

:26:49.:26:52.

path of the vehicle and out of view. So many people on that route on that

:26:53.:26:57.

they have got cameras with them, and lucky for them, but great for us.

:26:58.:27:03.

The police later found the motorbike and the van, both were burnt out,

:27:04.:27:07.

but using the footage, they were able to recover the cash box with

:27:08.:27:11.

the 16 grand which had been hidden in the bushes. They were also able

:27:12.:27:16.

to track down the van driver who was later arrested. Craig Pearson

:27:17.:27:19.

admitted his part in the robbery and was jailed for seven years and three

:27:20.:27:24.

months after failing to give police any information about the other

:27:25.:27:29.

suspects. Detectives are determined to catch the rest of the gang. The

:27:30.:27:33.

driver of the motorbike and the man on the back who robbed the G4S

:27:34.:27:38.

guard. He is believed to be the same suspect later seen running across

:27:39.:27:44.

the field with the cash bags. The dashcam we have recovered is a very

:27:45.:27:47.

clear image of the male responsible for squirting the ammonia and making

:27:48.:27:52.

off carrying the bags, great footage, and I believe somebody out

:27:53.:27:58.

there must know who he is. Dashcam, headcam, horse riders, it has become

:27:59.:28:01.

a big part of policing today and it is making a massive difference,

:28:02.:28:06.

absolutely brilliant. You can see clearly who was involved.

:28:07.:28:09.

I'm joined now by DC Philip Caine, who is investigating

:28:10.:28:12.

Remind us where this happened. It occurred at Church street in Newton

:28:13.:28:23.

Heath. From the footage we have got, from dashcam and headcam from

:28:24.:28:26.

members of the public, we can clearly see the route the gang have

:28:27.:28:33.

taken the weather car was abandoned in Mossley. CCTV is amazing. Very

:28:34.:28:38.

clear images of one of the suspects, this is the guy with the cash bags,

:28:39.:28:42.

and you are really hoping today somebody watching and identify him.

:28:43.:28:49.

A white male, six foot tall, slim build, dark hair, we hoping somebody

:28:50.:28:54.

will recognise him. He is the mail we believe is responsible for

:28:55.:28:57.

squirting the ammonia in someone's face and he got off on the motorbike

:28:58.:29:03.

and he's running with the cash bags in Mossley. You can hear his voice

:29:04.:29:07.

on the body camera as well, can't you? You can. Hopefully someone will

:29:08.:29:12.

put the voice and the face together and call the police. And you will

:29:13.:29:15.

want to identify the motorbike rider. Very little information on

:29:16.:29:20.

him. If anyone recognises him, call the police and let us know. If you

:29:21.:29:25.

do have any information, if you recognise the suspects, please get

:29:26.:29:28.

in contact with us using the numbers on the screen.

:29:29.:29:30.

Now, moving into a new place should be an exciting time,

:29:31.:29:36.

but for many, the experience can turn

:29:37.:29:38.

from a happy to a harrowing, one as prospective tenants

:29:39.:29:40.

It's estimated that over a million pounds is lost to fake

:29:41.:29:44.

I'm with DI Mick Dodge from the City of London Police, and David Munday,

:29:45.:29:48.

David, what happened in your situation? I saw an ad online, and I

:29:49.:30:01.

went and lead the property with who I thought was the landlord.

:30:02.:30:09.

Unfortunately... Sorry. So you paid a deposit, you found this ad, you

:30:10.:30:13.

were a student at the time come you didn't have unlimited funds. That's

:30:14.:30:18.

true. You paid ?1000 for the deposit, so what went wrong? When I

:30:19.:30:22.

was supposed to move in, the landlord said before I could get the

:30:23.:30:27.

keys I had to pay him an extra month's went, and when I refused to

:30:28.:30:33.

cut off communication, and I later found out it was just an ex-tenant

:30:34.:30:38.

who kept the key. So he had ?1000, tried to get another one. Completes

:30:39.:30:43.

gamma. Mick, you have unfortunately seen this sort of thing happen

:30:44.:30:48.

before? Absolutely. It happens more than you would think. How does it

:30:49.:30:54.

work? We call it advance the fraud. They tried to get money up front

:30:55.:30:58.

view the goods, services or in this case a property, when in reality the

:30:59.:31:02.

property doesn't exist, it has been rented out to somebody else,

:31:03.:31:04.

sometimes to loads of other people, or like in your case, David, who you

:31:05.:31:10.

think is the landlord is just a complete imposter. Sadly, they

:31:11.:31:12.

target students because they know there will be a lot of people after

:31:13.:31:17.

property. There are time pressures, and a lot of demand of the market.

:31:18.:31:22.

Yes, they have to be in by a certain time, they take what is on offer. So

:31:23.:31:27.

what can people do to avoid being in this situation themselves, then? It

:31:28.:31:31.

can be tricky, but one of the most important things is to be as certain

:31:32.:31:34.

as you can the person you are dealing with is the genuine

:31:35.:31:39.

landlord. Look at documents, get a tenancy agreement, look for the gas

:31:40.:31:42.

safety certificate. If you are a student, speak to your university

:31:43.:31:46.

because they can give you advice and advise its -- advice and guidance.

:31:47.:31:51.

Never pay in cash, be sceptical if you are asked to do a money transfer

:31:52.:31:56.

service. Because there could be the same as cash. Always put money into

:31:57.:32:01.

a bank account, either an electronic bank transfer or walk into the

:32:02.:32:05.

branch, put your cash across the counter. Great advice. David, too,

:32:06.:32:10.

this type of thing, you set up an online system to help avoid it in

:32:11.:32:13.

the future? Yes. Yes, my brother, and

:32:14.:32:23.

I set up Rentprofile. Landlords can register for free,

:32:24.:32:25.

and we carry out real-time comprehensive background checks

:32:26.:32:27.

on them, so tenants can check they're dealing

:32:28.:32:29.

with the genuine landlord, And there's more details

:32:30.:32:34.

on our website about that landlord Next, detectives need your

:32:35.:32:36.

help to name the car thief who mowed down the very man whose motor he'd

:32:37.:32:42.

just stolen. 28-year-old Abu lives in Blackburn

:32:43.:33:20.

and runs the travel agencies for his family. My dad is no longer alive,

:33:21.:33:26.

so the responsibility is on my head for looking after my mum. But when

:33:27.:33:32.

he is not working, she focuses on his passion for cars. I have always

:33:33.:33:37.

liked my cars. The car I have always wanted is a BMW M5, but my wife

:33:38.:33:43.

wouldn't let me buy it. At the moment I have got a BMW 335. It is

:33:44.:33:49.

on a 62 plate. A very rare model and spec. DANCE MUSIC In March this

:33:50.:34:01.

year, Abu was having some problems with his car so he called in to see

:34:02.:34:06.

his friend at a Thai garage in Blackburn. Abu brought his car to

:34:07.:34:13.

me, the car was overheating, so he left his engine running. But while

:34:14.:34:19.

Abu was inside, he didn't realise another tune in stick thief was

:34:20.:34:21.

eyeing up his most prized possession. CCTV shows the moment

:34:22.:34:28.

that a man wearing a Hi-Vis jacket walked up to the car and got in.

:34:29.:34:35.

With the engine already running, he reversed at speed, and the alarm was

:34:36.:34:42.

raised. We heard one of his staff shouting, so we looked at the

:34:43.:34:45.

camera, that is when we realised that somebody has got into the car,

:34:46.:34:51.

and about the reverse. Instinctively, Abu and the garage

:34:52.:34:56.

staff raced towards it. I don't think I was thinking much, I just

:34:57.:35:00.

wanted to get my car back. Abu tried to stop him. I went into the driver

:35:01.:35:06.

side and tried switching off the car, I try to get him out of the car

:35:07.:35:10.

at the same time. But the man was not so easily thwarted. I just try

:35:11.:35:16.

to get him out of the car. I had my arms round his neck, tried to lift

:35:17.:35:20.

him off the seat. Despite a brave attempt to stop him, the thief

:35:21.:35:27.

accelerated, dragging Abu along the road, crushing his leg but the

:35:28.:35:33.

Fakhar Fozz Mac wheels. When he drove off, I scraped the road, the

:35:34.:35:34.

tarmac. He was left seriously injured,

:35:35.:35:41.

bleeding in the road. His friends could only watch horrified. Seeing

:35:42.:35:47.

blood everywhere, Abu's leg is literally torn to bits. I didn't

:35:48.:35:52.

know what to do. I was in shock. I didn't know how bad an injury it

:35:53.:35:58.

was. Abu's leg was torn open and he was rapidly losing blood. The

:35:59.:36:04.

paramedics put me into the ambulance, only then I realised what

:36:05.:36:08.

had happened to it. Luckily, surgeons were able to save Abu's

:36:09.:36:13.

leg, but his injuries mean he is still unable to run the family

:36:14.:36:18.

business. It has affected me quite a bit, both mentally and physically. I

:36:19.:36:22.

am struggling to get about, can't drive, can't walk for too long.

:36:23.:36:27.

Every time I put my head down trying to go to sleep, I just get

:36:28.:36:32.

flashbacks of what's happened. The car was found dumped in the pharmacy

:36:33.:36:43.

area of Bolton. -- in Bolton. Every time I get into a car I have to look

:36:44.:36:46.

behind make sure there is no one there. I don't think I will be able

:36:47.:36:51.

to forget what has happened. It is more or less my whole life that has

:36:52.:36:53.

been changed. Well, with me now to talk more

:36:54.:36:55.

about the police investigation is Detective Inspector Tim Brown

:36:56.:36:59.

of Lancashire Constabulary. Tim - extraordinary CCTV in this

:37:00.:37:03.

case, the thief really was brazen to take the car

:37:04.:37:05.

from under their noses, Absolutely. It is plain to say from

:37:06.:37:18.

the footage that it was brazen, extremely callous also. The person

:37:19.:37:21.

responsible for this has committed the act in the middle of the day on

:37:22.:37:25.

a busy high Street. It was only within a few metres of people

:37:26.:37:30.

working in the premises there. Again, from the footage, you can see

:37:31.:37:34.

the reckless driving. A complete disregard for people surrounding the

:37:35.:37:38.

vehicle. Luckily you are able to track down the car fairly quickly

:37:39.:37:43.

after this incident. That's right, we had some fantastic assistance

:37:44.:37:47.

from Abu, his family and friends on social media, it is unclear exactly

:37:48.:37:51.

as to why the car was abandoned but it was and we recovered. At the same

:37:52.:37:58.

time, small comfort for Abu. Talk me through the extent of his injuries.

:37:59.:38:03.

Absolutely, injuries to both his arm and leg, most significantly. I am

:38:04.:38:06.

told he has had a number of surgeries to try to make that right,

:38:07.:38:10.

but the reality is both psychologically and physically it

:38:11.:38:14.

probably would be right. You mention that the CCTV is really clear,

:38:15.:38:18.

someone must know who this car thief is. Absolutely. The appeal from me

:38:19.:38:22.

today is that we hear from anybody who can give us any information that

:38:23.:38:26.

would insist the investigation, but the most simple part of the appeal

:38:27.:38:32.

is simply who is that person in the footage? There is clear footage,

:38:33.:38:36.

clear stills, please come forward and then that person. Thank you very

:38:37.:38:41.

much. As you heard, if this is someone you recognise, take a look

:38:42.:38:44.

at the footage, if you can identify them, please make sure you get in

:38:45.:38:48.

contact. We will be standing by the calls. The numbers are on the screen

:38:49.:38:51.

and we have the text message number and an e-mail address.

:38:52.:38:54.

Now it's time for a look at today's Wanted Faces.

:38:55.:38:56.

First up is this man, Anthony Rowson, although you may

:38:57.:38:59.

He was jailed for four years for attempted burglary and then

:39:00.:39:02.

But he's failed to stick to the conditions of his release

:39:03.:39:06.

He has links to Liverpool and Manchester and a tattoo

:39:07.:39:10.

He was arrested in connection with the supply of Class A drugs

:39:11.:39:18.

and the recovery of almost ?55,000 in cash.

:39:19.:39:20.

He was released on bail but has failed to return.

:39:21.:39:26.

Originally from Albania, the 28-year-old now has links

:39:27.:39:28.

to the West Midlands, Derbyshire and Northamptonshire.

:39:29.:39:30.

He has a tattoo of barbed wire on his right forearm.

:39:31.:39:33.

Police would like to question him in connection to an assault

:39:34.:39:37.

on a woman and also the breach of a restraining order.

:39:38.:39:41.

Maddox is 47 and has a Liverpudlian accent.

:39:42.:39:45.

He has links across the city, but he could now be in Ireland.

:39:46.:39:48.

Detectives would like to question him in connection

:39:49.:39:54.

with a conspiracy to supply a large quantity of cannabis.

:39:55.:39:56.

The 56-year-old has an Essex accent and links across the county.

:39:57.:40:01.

If you know where any of these faces are, make sure you get in touch

:40:02.:40:05.

Next, the violent attack on a taxi driver as he went about his work.

:40:06.:40:14.

Detective Sergeant Adie Knowles from Lancashire Constabulary

:40:15.:40:15.

The suspect was picked up from Lancaster city centre about 5:24am

:40:16.:40:31.

on the 12th of March of this year. He paid for the fair, got out of the

:40:32.:40:36.

taxi and then approach the passenger side window, entered into an

:40:37.:40:40.

argument, disputing the fear, and he was very aggressive in his behaviour

:40:41.:40:45.

to the taxi driver. And the whole thing was caught on camera. The taxi

:40:46.:40:51.

driver had a dash cam, which capture the whole incident with sound. We

:40:52.:40:55.

have a clip, so let's take a at what happened. Give me my money. No, you

:40:56.:41:06.

can't have the money. It was just a really aggressive encounter, wasn't

:41:07.:41:11.

it? Yes, from the minute you get out of it taxi, he became very verbally

:41:12.:41:18.

aggressive, he reached out and damaged the taxi. That is when the

:41:19.:41:22.

actual assault happened but we can't show the footage, because it is just

:41:23.:41:25.

too violent but August through what happened. After he caused the damage

:41:26.:41:30.

to the taxi, he then started throwing punches at Mr Siddique, and

:41:31.:41:36.

he tried his very best to defend himself. Remind us what offences

:41:37.:41:41.

this person is suspected. Assault and criminal damage. We just need a

:41:42.:41:46.

name for the chap involved. How was the driver after all of this? It is

:41:47.:41:50.

such an ordeal to have to go through when you are going about your daily

:41:51.:41:53.

work, not the type of thing you expect. Certainly not. He received

:41:54.:41:58.

some bruising to his face, his glasses were damaged and he was

:41:59.:42:02.

certainly shaken by the events that occurred. You are appealing for any

:42:03.:42:05.

information at all today. Thank you very much. If from looking at that

:42:06.:42:11.

footage you can identify the person, this has had a real effect on the

:42:12.:42:14.

taxi driver, as we were just saying, not something you expect ever to

:42:15.:42:18.

happen. Get in touch if you can help with this case.

:42:19.:42:23.

Time now for a look at what's been coming

:42:24.:42:25.

Lots of you calling in after Tuesday's appeal, to find those

:42:26.:42:35.

responsible for the shooting of two cats with an air rifle in

:42:36.:42:38.

Lancashire, the cats were left with serious injuries and the RSPCA is

:42:39.:42:42.

now looking into all of your calls. And some good news for you, because

:42:43.:42:46.

we have had yet another arrest on one of our wanted faces as they

:42:47.:42:50.

direct result of your calls. Michelle, where are you tomorrow?

:42:51.:42:54.

Rav, I'll be ending the week in Liverpool, asking

:42:55.:42:56.

for your help to catch the armed gang who punched an

:42:57.:42:59.

And a first for me - we'll be live from one of the UK's

:43:00.:43:04.

Might as well catch the bus, mightn't I? See you!

:43:05.:43:13.

For more details about the crimes on today's programme,

Before we go, here's another look at this morning's Wanted Faces.
