This programme contains strong language.

This programme contains some scenes which some

0:00:250:00:29

This Taser is capable of delivering 50,000 volts!

0:00:300:00:37

The task of protecting them false to the country's

0:00:380:00:39

Hello, Metropolitan Police, how can I help?

0:00:400:00:47

In a single year, they are called to 90,000 robberies and burglaries.

0:00:480:00:59

You've been identified as being responsible

0:01:000:01:10

You unlawfully and maliciously caused grevious bodily harm.

0:01:110:01:23

Can you think of a reason now why I should give

0:01:240:01:25

It's a force seen by some as the enemy.

0:01:260:01:37

Black people growing up around here feel

0:01:380:01:41

My driver has come under attack with a glass bottle.

0:01:420:01:47

He's had his head split open, and another officer has been stabbed

0:01:480:01:50

What are you doing using language like that?

0:01:510:01:56

We lock up the bad people so that people like you can

0:01:570:02:03

Although, I once saw a fox run across the road with a whole KFC

0:02:040:02:34

Hackney is the only borough where foxes will look you in the eye

0:02:350:02:42

and purposely not move because they're not scared of you.

0:02:430:02:45

PCs Dave and Paris have been working together for five years.

0:02:460:02:52

They patrol one of the ten most violent boroughs in London.

0:02:530:02:56

OK, informant reporting a disturbance, who thinks two

0:02:570:02:58

Both are Taser trained and assigned to I grade

0:02:590:03:05

calls, where an immediate response is needed.

0:03:060:03:08

It's the start of the bank holiday weekend, and a 22-year-old man has

0:03:090:03:24

Can we take your top off and have a proper look, mate?

0:03:250:03:37

Facial injuries are very emotive, the face.

0:03:380:03:42

People can get totally transfixed with the fact they've got

0:03:430:03:45

an injury to the face, and in fact, they've got

0:03:460:03:48

a much more serious injury to their torso or abdomen.

0:03:490:03:50

Look down into your own groin and make sure there's no

0:03:510:03:55

Sometimes they won't recognise the fact they've got

0:03:560:03:58

what is actually a very serious injury, which is why

0:03:590:04:01

Stop, show me your belly, let me see your armpits.

0:04:020:04:04

Because, you take a stab wound into the axilla

0:04:050:04:07

He's stated that he fell over, that's how he did his face.

0:04:080:04:16

It's not particularly deep, but it's clearly enough

0:04:170:04:21

to make him be sick, and he's probably dropped

0:04:220:04:23

The victim needed 27 stitches in his face.

0:04:240:04:27

Suspect knife, possibly still outstanding.

0:04:280:04:37

Now our primary aim is to track the suspect down and arrest him.

0:04:380:04:42

I'm guessing he's going to be the usual gang-looking type.

0:04:430:04:45

Obviously, pleased you're a weight Taser unit.

0:04:460:04:50

Following information from a member of the public,

0:04:510:04:52

they believe the suspect is less than two miles away.

0:04:530:04:56

Fellow officer Naomi has reached him on his phone.

0:04:570:05:12

If he is distressed and in a state of panic, I'm not letting

0:05:130:05:17

He's going to be engaged by Taser officers.

0:05:180:05:24

He can arrange to meet whoever he likes.

0:05:250:05:27

Try and get eyes on, and he will be a Taser challenge.

0:05:280:05:30

He's obviously panicking, but the problem is, people make bad

0:05:310:05:38

decisions when they are panicking, and our job is to try to minimise

0:05:390:05:41

He's already done something stupid, and he's got to be dealt

0:05:420:05:45

with for that, and we've got to secure him safely.

0:05:460:05:50

The Sergeant has decided the Tasers shouldn't be used,

0:05:510:06:07

so another unit will carry out the arrest.

0:06:080:06:09

You do naturally get excited about these kind of calls.

0:06:100:06:23

Your adrenaline is pumping, and you are about to catch someone

0:06:240:06:26

who is walking around the streets with a knife.

0:06:270:06:28

It's one of the most satisfying things you can arrest someone for,

0:06:290:06:31

because it's such a big issue in London again, the knife crime.

0:06:320:06:34

Over the last year, 13 young people have died as a result

0:06:350:06:37

We were getting ready for a red dot challenge, we were.

0:06:380:06:46

We are going to take the suspect back to his home address,

0:06:470:06:50

try and find the knife, and it just ties it all

0:06:510:06:52

Less than a mile away, there's been another attack.

0:06:530:07:07

A 24-year-old man that's been stabbed.

0:07:080:07:12

It took me ages to get these new white shirts,

0:07:130:07:15

so I try not to get any blood on them.

0:07:160:07:19

It's like gold dust, getting new uniform.

0:07:200:07:36

We're looking for victim, and the suspects have gone up

0:07:370:07:39

to the left and taken the next left onto Bucks Hill Crescent.

0:07:400:07:44

But obviously, from the other cad, suspects have run off in that

0:07:450:07:58

direction, towards Bucks Hill Crescent.

0:07:590:07:59

He's got a stab wound to the upper right groin area.

0:08:000:08:05

Paris stays with the victim while Dave and his Sergeant

0:08:060:08:07

They like to debilitate their victims.

0:08:080:08:20

There is embarrassment, there's a lot of complications.

0:08:210:08:26

People end up having to use colostomy bags and stuff.

0:08:270:08:29

Myself and 19 are going to be walking through Red Path.

0:08:300:08:37

The suggestion that the suspects may have made off in this direction.

0:08:380:08:40

There two males just on your left into the park.

0:08:410:09:10

They didn't make off in any way, but they were paying a lot

0:09:110:09:13

With no description of the suspects to go on, all David and his Sergeant

0:09:140:09:19

can do is try and question anyone in the area.

0:09:200:09:22

Despite the arrival of more units, the police lose the boys

0:09:230:10:06

With the increased police presence, another man has been arrested

0:10:070:10:22

I'm arresting you for having the lock blade on you.

0:10:230:10:31

In the area, I heard little kids was stabbing each other.

0:10:320:10:40

Units have been called in to search the area.

0:10:410:10:46

They find a bag containing thousands of pounds worth of class A drugs.

0:10:470:10:51

And, back in the park, Dave has uncovered several weapons.

0:10:520:10:58

Regardless of what the motive is, they are just kids.

0:10:590:11:01

That lad's got a horrific, life changing injury.

0:11:020:11:09

I know they say it's not life changing, not life-threatening,

0:11:100:11:11

but he's basically got a massive stab wound in the top of his penis.

0:11:120:11:15

That's going to cause him, potentially, a lifetime of problems.

0:11:160:11:17

All these kids could be doing something worthwhile.

0:11:180:11:34

You know, they are all capable of doing something decent,

0:11:350:11:38

They're just throwing it away doing dumb shit like this.

0:11:390:11:47

When officers arrived at the address, a 45-year-old man

0:11:480:13:15

He is arrested and brought to Kingston Police Station.

0:13:160:13:23

So the charge is attempt to rape a woman 16 or over.

0:13:240:13:27

Intentionally attempted to penetrate the vagina

0:13:280:13:29

of a woman with your penis, when she did not consent,

0:13:300:13:33

and you did not reasonably believe that she was consenting.

0:13:340:13:41

Rape and attempted rape are difficult to investigate.

0:13:420:13:46

You effectively have one person's word against another, so the fact

0:13:470:13:48

that you have the suspect there, it's effectively the

0:13:490:13:51

Detective Inspector Neil Jones is from the Met's Sapphire Unit,

0:13:520:13:59

which investigates rape and serious sexual assault.

0:14:000:14:01

First and foremost, thank you very much for all your

0:14:020:14:05

We had an excellent result, which was well deserved.

0:14:060:14:08

We can take some comfort in the fact that a dangerous sex offender

0:14:090:14:12

But, as we know, that's the easy part, and the hard part

0:14:130:14:19

is going to be the next bit, ensuring that we have

0:14:200:14:21

At the moment, it appears they've never met previously,

0:14:220:14:27

there was a two-minute walk to the home address, then,

0:14:280:14:29

within a very short space of time, they are allegedly in bed having

0:14:300:14:34

sexual intercourse, which I would suggest is quite unusual.

0:14:350:14:37

It is very unclear what she means by "following".

0:14:380:14:42

"He wasn't that far away" was the words she used.

0:14:430:14:47

That's all you get, over and over again when you question her.

0:14:480:14:50

She's a lady who has Down's syndrome, and as such,

0:14:510:14:53

communication with her is proving to be quite difficult.

0:14:540:15:00

There is a possibility that she invited him into the flat,

0:15:010:15:02

but likewise, there's also a possibility that he followed her

0:15:030:15:05

without her knowledge, and got into the flat,

0:15:060:15:07

or forced her into the flat, or even under false pretences.

0:15:080:15:10

To me, there's a bit of confusion as to what he's

0:15:110:15:15

It is unclear whether there's been any penetration or not.

0:15:160:15:22

I think the confusion comes from when people have

0:15:230:15:25

asked her direct questions, "Have you had sex with him?",

0:15:260:15:28

But when I've asked the same question, she's very adamant.

0:15:290:15:33

Do we know what she understands by sex?

0:15:340:15:43

Mum has provided us with a statement saying that she understands

0:15:440:15:45

that it is something to do with a man and a woman,

0:15:460:15:48

but doesn't have any clue as to the biometrics

0:15:490:15:50

Which obviously casts confusion on when we ask

0:15:510:15:54

if she's had sex with him, yes or no?

0:15:550:15:56

The police arrived, and the male suspect was actually here,

0:15:570:16:05

What we are trying to find is traces of him and his DNA

0:16:060:16:11

and his forensic make up contained within this bed area.

0:16:120:16:20

The officer in charge of the case is Detective David Fall.

0:16:210:16:23

What we do know is that he was here upon arrest.

0:16:240:16:25

What we don't know is what took place in the address,

0:16:260:16:28

and what we are trying to establish is him committing

0:16:290:16:30

We are looking in terms of semen, bodily fluids,

0:16:310:16:34

I mean, that looks like it's a hand that way round.

0:16:350:16:46

But there's not a lot of detail in it at all.

0:16:470:16:50

David is joined by Detective Asha Sharma, who is visiting

0:16:510:16:52

the victims' neighbours to gather more information.

0:16:530:16:55

She came running into me and just hugged me and started crying.

0:16:560:17:06

She was saying, "There's a man upstairs in my bed naked

0:17:070:17:10

with a bottle of vodka, and he won't go, he won't go."

0:17:110:17:15

And she just kept saying to me, "he touched me here,

0:17:160:17:17

"I kept saying no", and I asked her if she knew who it was,

0:17:180:17:27

and she says, I don't know who he is.

0:17:280:17:29

OK, when you see Jolene, what do you think, when you see her?

0:17:300:17:37

It indicates there might be semen, so we will take those swamps

0:17:380:17:50

I've got something coming up right on the corner now.

0:17:510:18:00

That's going quite deep purple, isn't it?

0:18:010:18:03

We can't establish at this stage if that is semen of the suspect,

0:18:040:18:09

however, we will know more in a few days' time.

0:18:100:18:24

No reason why I shouldn't carry this weapon.

0:18:250:18:30

In east London, Dave and Paris are beginning their shift.

0:18:310:18:33

I've carried a Taser for three years.

0:18:340:18:37

I've only actually had to activate the Taser twice,

0:18:380:18:40

once for a person, once for a dog, and it is...

0:18:410:18:43

Someone set off the alarm in the front office, so I had to run.

0:18:440:19:08

I'm a big fan of running, as you can tell.

0:19:090:19:11

It was a false alarm, so we can go back.

0:19:120:19:14

Dave is 35, and one of the most experienced response

0:19:150:19:17

The test is if you can drink the coffee on the way to and I grade.

0:19:180:19:27

The test is mainly if you don't end up wearing coffee.

0:19:280:19:30

It's the beginning of rush hour, and a suspect package has been

0:19:310:19:32

reported three miles away in Old Street.

0:19:330:19:38

There is a male who's put an object on the side of in the bin.

0:19:390:19:49

There was a bin right in front of him, so it's very strange,

0:19:500:19:53

and obviously given the Brussels attack recently, people

0:19:540:19:55

So, Eastern European male, five foot seven, stubble,

0:19:560:20:06

black hood, rucksack on his back, wearing dark clothing.

0:20:070:20:12

Dave, that male on CCTV has gone into the block by Argos,

0:20:130:20:20

Do you want to look the other side of Old Street

0:20:210:20:32

He's placed an item by the side of a bin.

0:20:330:20:38

He says, as it blows up in his hands!

0:20:390:20:59

That's never going to cause anyone any harm, however,

0:21:000:21:02

someone was obviously nervous about it.

0:21:030:21:03

It's our job to make people feel more secure.

0:21:040:21:05

It's the Queen's diesel, so we will run around and pick it up.

0:21:060:21:09

25-year-old Paris joined the Met after leaving college,

0:21:100:21:15

starting out in Hackney, less than ten miles

0:21:160:21:18

This is my favourite song at the minute.

0:21:190:21:27

We may agree on many things, Paris, but music may not be one of them.

0:21:280:21:46

This is, you are away, somewhere hot, on a beach,

0:21:470:21:52

# I need to know where do you wanna go...

0:21:530:22:04

It's 9am, and they've been alerted to an altercation nearby.

0:22:050:22:15

You're not going to bite my hand off, mate, are you?

0:22:160:22:57

Mate, everything you say and do is on camera.

0:22:580:23:32

Patrol, this prisoner is smashing his head

0:23:330:23:33

And was ordered not to return to that address again.

0:23:340:23:50

I'm just going to try and see here, there is quite a large

0:23:510:23:53

queue of people waiting to board that bus.

0:23:540:23:55

What I'm trying to do is identify the point where the victim

0:23:560:23:58

and the suspect first encounter each other.

0:23:590:24:02

David Fall, the detective in charge of the attempted rape case, has got

0:24:030:24:05

hold of CCTV showing part of the victims home.

0:24:060:24:09

They did not board together, the victim in this case has actually

0:24:100:24:12

just boarded the bus here in the screen that we conceive.

0:24:130:24:15

And if we follow on the footage are suspect just enters

0:24:160:24:18

So at this stage it wouldn't appear that they've ever

0:24:190:24:24

And as we can see in the bottom right-hand picture there,

0:24:250:24:28

the victim is in fact sat by the window and the suspect

0:24:290:24:31

And I'm fairly confident that is the first time

0:24:320:24:36

It's very difficult to tell if he is engaged in any conversation

0:24:370:24:41

The suspect is now following the victim off the bus.

0:24:420:24:49

She comes out the bus and turns left, which would be

0:24:500:24:52

But he walks straight towards the fencing area

0:24:530:24:57

It would appear that he didn't get off the bus knowing which direction

0:24:580:25:03

From what we know, the account so far that we have managed

0:25:040:25:11

to obtain from the victim is very consistent.

0:25:120:25:15

What we need to really know is what happened in her flat,

0:25:160:25:22

At this stage there is a lot of questions that

0:25:230:25:30

The detectives need to get a more detailed description

0:25:310:25:33

of the alleged offence from the victim.

0:25:340:25:35

She's been living independently for six years.

0:25:360:25:44

But has been staying with her mum since the attack.

0:25:450:25:47

Remember when I said that we were going to get your story

0:25:480:25:50

about why you phoned the police on Friday?

0:25:510:25:52

What we are going to do, we're going to do that tomorrow.

0:25:530:25:56

And the reason we are here today is really to see if you've got any

0:25:570:26:00

We have got Gaynor here, she's going to talk to you.

0:26:010:26:05

Now, I've come to meet you, I'm not a police officer.

0:26:060:26:08

What I am is called an intermediary because sometimes when the police

0:26:090:26:13

talk to people they've got their own way of talking

0:26:140:26:16

and some people might not always understand what they are saying,

0:26:170:26:20

what they are asking them, so we are going to chat and look

0:26:210:26:24

at some things so I can get an idea of the sort of words you find easy

0:26:250:26:28

to understand and the sorts of things that you might find a bit

0:26:290:26:32

difficult, does that sound like a good idea?

0:26:330:26:34

Right, now, I'm going to put some things out on the table,

0:26:350:26:41

Can you pick up for me the blue penny and the orange pencil?

0:26:420:26:50

So, what I'm going to do now Jo is to see if you can tell me

0:26:510:27:04

the names of different parts of the body, so first

0:27:050:27:06

of all I am going to show it on myself all right?

0:27:070:27:09

So can you tell me, let's have some really easy ones.

0:27:100:27:12

Let's have a look at this picture of the ladies here,

0:27:130:27:18

what would you call those bits there on a lady?

0:27:190:27:23

On a man, what would you call that bit?

0:27:240:27:28

What does it do, what does the penis do?

0:27:290:27:32

OK, when you have sex, does it do anything else?

0:27:330:27:36

Does it do anything else, a man's penis that you can think of?

0:27:370:27:45

It's going to be particularly difficult for her to give

0:27:460:27:54

explanations of things, how did such and such

0:27:550:27:55

What was the reason that you did such and such.

0:27:560:28:00

She'll have enough difficulty just sort of chronological

0:28:010:28:02

So we may have to have sort of timelines where we can

0:28:030:28:11

draw pictures, some sort of visual reinforcement.

0:28:120:28:28

In east London, the Met's dedicated robbery unit, the Flying Squad,

0:28:290:28:37

are one of the only teams in the forced to carry firearms.

0:28:380:28:41

Personally I've always liked investigating robbery.

0:28:420:28:44

Obviously there is an excitement element to it.

0:28:450:28:47

Dealing with quite often top end criminality.

0:28:480:28:53

And we have on the Flying Squad an arms capability as well

0:28:540:28:56

Detective Inspector Nick Blackburn is investigating three armed

0:28:570:29:00

shop raids in south-east London.

0:29:010:29:04

The offences are very serious, at the top end of the offending

0:29:050:29:14

I cannot overstate the level of threat that was used here and it

0:29:150:29:22

has a hugely traumatic affect on the victims within the stores.

0:29:230:29:26

Some will never recover from what happened.

0:29:270:29:32

Two suspects have been identified from DNA evidence found

0:29:330:29:38

Paul Brown is linked through a dropped ?5 note,

0:29:390:29:43

it was dropped by Brown as he left the store having

0:29:440:29:46

This is a close-up of the dropped H bag and that was where we found

0:29:470:29:53

the partial DNA match for the suspect with

0:29:540:29:56

Nick and nine officers are heading up the day

0:29:570:30:17

Scott Smith is a far right supporter.

0:30:180:30:25

He's got previous offences for possession

0:30:260:30:29

That taken together means that we're not to enter his house.

0:30:300:30:35

That would be on his terms.

0:30:360:30:36

We are going to wait for him to come out of his house.

0:30:370:30:40

The intention for us today is to keep Scott Smith under control.

0:30:410:30:52

To avoid a possible armed stand-off the team have to sit tight

0:30:530:30:59

until Scott Smith comes out of his home.

0:31:000:31:02

I think with this particular individual, when you actually look

0:31:030:31:04

at his record, he's not a criminal mastermind.

0:31:050:31:06

From evaluating the offences themselves and the mistakes that

0:31:070:31:08

have been made by him and his associate.

0:31:090:31:12

They've committed an offence which will see them receive

0:31:130:31:16

considerable prison sentences, all for ?1200.

0:31:170:31:18

Insufficient I would say, for the risk that is presented.

0:31:190:31:28

After four hours on stand-by, Scott finally leaves his address

0:31:290:31:30

Yes, yes, you've got three arrest cars formed up in Beacon road.

0:31:310:31:53

Got anything on you you shouldn't have at all?

0:31:540:32:24

You fucking hit me in the back, mate.

0:32:250:32:37

Detectives search Scott's address looking for items that

0:32:380:32:47

What it is guv, it looks like we've got some of the items of clothing

0:32:480:32:56

The distinctive black trainers with white soles.

0:32:570:33:03

I did not take you for a Justin Bieber man.

0:33:040:33:11

That's it, your cred has gone now with us.

0:33:120:33:15

Kind of brought the mood down this hasn't it?

0:33:160:33:32

The second suspect, Paul Brown, has also been arrested,

0:33:330:33:54

and both are being taken to Bromley police station to be questioned.

0:33:550:33:57

There you go, man in the blue coat, gunmen

0:33:580:33:59

I believe that's you, because it looks like you.

0:34:000:34:04

The man behind him, do you know who that is?

0:34:050:34:07

Was that you that pushed the plastic bag under the counter?

0:34:080:34:10

A lot of the clothing was found, at both Brown's and Smith's address.

0:34:110:34:25

Paul, watching that, that's a very good likeness for you isn't it?

0:34:260:34:28

And let's not forget as well the likeness with the images that

0:34:290:34:36

we've seen on the CCTV so it's a very strong case.

0:34:370:34:39

I'm very pleased it's a success for the victims,

0:34:400:34:41

they are looking at quite a few years in custody.

0:34:420:35:00

You have been arrested on suspicion of attempted rape.

0:35:010:35:06

Jolene says that you touched her breast then pulled down her knickers

0:35:070:35:09

Is that why you forced your way into her house and tried

0:35:100:35:22

Do you get drunk and follow people home off buses?

0:35:230:35:30

The suspect in the attempted rape investigation has refused to give

0:35:310:35:33

David's only opportunity to prove what happened is to get

0:35:340:35:42

She's come in with her support worker Nicola.

0:35:430:35:54

Has she been, how was she after we went?

0:35:550:35:59

Handling it better than what I thought.

0:36:000:36:02

Come and take a seat, this way my darling.

0:36:030:36:05

Right, Jo, on Friday, you called the police,

0:36:060:36:10

I was in the bedroom and he's pulled my jeans down to my ankles.

0:36:110:36:20

Jo, who pulled your jeans down to your ankles?

0:36:210:36:22

Did you ask him to come to your flat?

0:36:230:36:35

After he took your clothes off, tell me, what did he do?

0:36:360:36:46

You were scared of the man and you told him you don't want to do it.

0:36:470:37:20

The thing that worries me now, I say worries me, it's quite

0:37:210:37:39

consistent at the start, right at the end, prior

0:37:400:37:41

to the break, he's raped me, or he's tried to rape me.

0:37:420:37:44

But we need to ask her what she understands about rape.

0:37:450:37:46

Which is our last question, do you know what rape is?

0:37:470:37:52

He's been charged with attempted rape and we need to be able to prove

0:37:530:37:56

beyond doubt that that offence has taken place.

0:37:570:37:58

Do you know, when you said he tried to rape me...

0:37:590:38:01

Tell us again, what does it mean, when someone rapes

0:38:020:38:22

They have now been interviewing Jolene for nearly 90 minutes.

0:38:230:38:35

Take him back to prison, the police came round and arrest him.

0:38:360:38:48

OK, we are getting very confused here Jo.

0:38:490:38:55

I think we are going around in circles now so I was just saying

0:38:560:38:58

whether or not there is any merit in maybe doing a further

0:38:590:39:01

I don't want him to go to my flat again.

0:39:020:39:34

We can sort that out, he's in prison at the moment.

0:39:350:39:39

Yeah, that is what my job is, to make sure that we lock up the bad

0:39:400:39:46

Neither do we, that's why we do the job that we do.

0:39:470:39:53

So that people like you, the good people can sleep safe

0:39:540:39:56

It's 11:30pm on Saturday night and units are called to Shoreditch.

0:39:570:40:18

Sorry mate, you got something to say?

0:40:190:40:47

Fella, I'd take yourself home before you end up getting

0:40:480:40:52

But with enough officers already at the scene,

0:40:530:40:59

Dave and Paris can go back on patrol.

0:41:000:41:10

That's why I wasn't going to stop, because I thought you were

0:41:110:41:13

Literally, it's not good to take much tonight.

0:41:140:41:16

This is going to be a fucking horrendous night isn't it?

0:41:170:41:29

Is there a woman flat out on the floor there?

0:41:300:41:38

You can't just lie here, people are going to think

0:41:390:42:01

You're lucky you ain't been robbed, this is the middle of Hackney.

0:42:020:42:09

You're taller than I thought you were going to be.

0:42:100:42:12

Madam, do you want to put the bag on your shoulder?

0:42:130:42:16

No, no, you are not under arrest, we are just taking

0:42:170:42:25

It's just I'm not putting you in my car, it's safer

0:42:260:42:29

in the back of this because it's wipe clean, you know what I mean?

0:42:300:42:32

She's in a lot more danger if we leave her there.

0:42:330:42:36

It's a couple of minutes round the corner.

0:42:370:42:39

It's not something we like doing but it will result in her not

0:42:400:42:42

becoming a victim of crime later on tonight.

0:42:430:42:46

Back on patrol, a car has caught Paris's attention.

0:42:470:42:52

He's literally running around all over that car.

0:42:530:42:55

Sounding angry and rude and aggressive?

0:42:560:43:03

I want you to practice your inside voice.

0:43:040:43:04

I want you to like kill them with kindness.

0:43:050:43:10

Good evening sir, I hope you're having a pleasant day, the Lord....

0:43:110:43:15

Let's stick to things like hello, I would like to firstly tell

0:43:160:43:23

you what a lovely shade of blue your car is.

0:43:240:43:26

But secondly, put a goddamn seatbelt on.

0:43:270:43:28

You're going to be calm, you're going be cool.

0:43:290:43:30

Excuse me sir would you like to pull your vehicle over?

0:43:310:43:32

I'm getting bored, we are going to have pull this vehicle over.

0:43:330:43:38

You know what, he's going to stay off side, if he stays off side

0:43:390:43:41

Just a quick note, your passenger in the back should be

0:43:420:43:51

Not only is it a ?100 fine for you sir, and you young lady,

0:43:520:43:58

but also in the event of a collision he will travel forward at about 60

0:43:590:44:02

mph and crush your head into the dashboard so I would

0:44:030:44:05

thoroughly recommend everyone wears their seat belts.

0:44:060:44:06

Aw dammit, now I'm going to have to stop at these lights.

0:44:070:44:20

It's nearly 4am and a mile and a half away Hackney council CCTV

0:44:210:44:25

team has spotted a fight outside a nightclub.

0:44:260:44:29

At the minute you are detained, you're under arrest

0:44:300:44:43

You don't have to say anything but it may harm your defence

0:44:440:44:49

if you do not mention when questioned something

0:44:500:44:51

No, because there might be evidence in there

0:44:520:45:19

Relating to the GBH, someone's been hit with a

0:45:200:45:24

I didn't hit anyone with a fucking bike lock.

0:45:250:45:28

You are under arrest on suspicion, calm

0:45:290:45:30

OK, well you're going to be in the van and we

0:45:310:45:38

are going to check the CCTV, at the minute you're on suspicion.

0:45:390:45:41

Your further arrested for possession of

0:45:420:45:43

class B, you do not have to say anything but it may harm your

0:45:440:45:46

defence if you do not mention when questioned something

0:45:470:45:48

David has asked Jolene back as he needs to make sure he has

0:45:490:46:11

the most comprehensive account to present in

0:46:120:46:12

We need to prove beyond any reasonable doubt

0:46:130:46:18

That is why our interviewing victims and

0:46:190:46:22

We need to give ourselves and most importantly

0:46:230:46:31

the victim the best possible chance of justice in court.

0:46:320:46:34

They don't have the forensic results back.

0:46:350:46:38

And there's still some uncertainty whether they should prosecute for

0:46:390:46:40

attempted rape or the more serious offence of rape.

0:46:410:46:45

Can you tell me, who walked in to your bedroom first?

0:46:460:46:48

From looking at that, was he laying on top of you?

0:46:490:47:12

Talking in such graphic terms of parts of the body and

0:47:130:47:17

certain actions that may have happened in a sexual offence

0:47:180:47:20

investigation, it's such a difficult process for anybody to go through.

0:47:210:47:26

We can't ever make it any better but we can try to

0:47:270:47:37

make it easier and it's about having empathy.

0:47:380:47:38

It's making them feel that we are there, that we care

0:47:390:47:42

and that we want to do the best thing for them.

0:47:430:47:45

Again, I wasn't there, OK, so it's very important that I can

0:47:460:47:49

Can you tell me what you think I mean?

0:47:500:48:10

He came forward to me and put his penis right down my ankle,

0:48:110:48:13

Maybe we could just use, they've asked you, did his penis

0:48:140:48:19

We need to have a talk about this don't we?

0:48:200:48:38

I just don't think her yes, no answers are 100% reliable.

0:48:390:48:42

That's what she does do, she will try to please people.

0:48:430:48:45

But in this circumstance you've asked her several times

0:48:460:48:48

and she's come back with the same answer.

0:48:490:48:50

I think bearing in mind we are going to be presenting this in

0:48:510:48:53

court, as well, when we're in that room, it's very different from when

0:48:540:48:56

Ultimately it's going to really be for the jury

0:48:570:48:59

to sit there and make their minds up.

0:49:000:49:01

I think today's been really worthwhile.

0:49:020:49:05

The account that Jolene has given us is a very good one.

0:49:060:49:08

And this is the reason why some people

0:49:090:49:21

with downs syndrome or other disabilities

0:49:220:49:27

and vulnerabilities are preyed upon because it's very,

0:49:280:49:30

very difficult for the police to get a complete and accurate

0:49:310:49:32

She told us as much detail as she could.

0:49:330:49:48

After three weeks of living away, Jolene and her mum have come

0:49:490:49:51

to get her flat ready before she moves back in.

0:49:520:49:53

I'm really worried, I mean she's been

0:49:540:49:59

staying with me, she is still staying with me, but she wants to

0:50:000:50:02

She likes her independence and everything.

0:50:030:50:09

She's actually handled it really well.

0:50:100:50:10

She has moments where she goes very quiet and you can see her

0:50:110:50:19

thinking or say like something will come on the telly and you can sense

0:50:200:50:22

and she will just look down so I turn it over

0:50:230:50:24

Keeps asking me to buy her a new bed, she wants the bed gone.

0:50:250:50:31

Would you be happy coming back up here?

0:50:320:50:34

Just try and get her life back together really, normal, that's all

0:50:350:51:00

Two days after Jolene's interview, David gets the last piece of

0:51:010:51:23

I've received the forensic examination report.

0:51:240:51:29

There's no semen detected in any area in

0:51:300:51:33

Jolene's flat, and there's also no semen present from Jolene's swabs.

0:51:340:51:38

It would appear this was an attempted rape as opposed to

0:51:390:51:41

Further to that, with the injuries sustained to Jolene,

0:51:420:51:46

in her account, she was very clear that he pinned her down on the bed,

0:51:470:51:50

These are all injuries that she did have, and it

0:51:510:51:54

Because, ultimately, it's her word against Harjit Singh's.

0:51:550:51:59

David will have to wait until the trial to see

0:52:000:52:02

You know the only four basic moves to any boy band song, don't you?

0:52:030:52:42

It's just after midnight, and Dave and Paris have been on the lookout

0:52:430:53:11

for a white BMW that made off from officers earlier.

0:53:120:53:14

There's a massive smell of cannabis from inside,

0:53:150:53:27

The Met's firearms unit are calling for back-up as they

0:53:280:53:47

The helicopter unit are also on route.

0:53:480:54:02

The driver and passengers have abandoned the car,

0:54:030:54:04

and are now being pursued by officers.

0:54:050:54:30

Two of the suspects are picked up on the helicopter's

0:54:310:54:32

RADIO: Stand by, because we've got suspect climbing over a wall.

0:54:330:54:37

Stand by, I'll try and give you the name of the block.

0:54:380:54:51

RADIO: They were climbing over some walls, and now they are on foot,

0:54:520:54:54

RADIO: It looks like it's Evelyn Court.

0:54:550:55:05

RADIO: One's gone left into the estate.

0:55:060:55:27

This Taser is capable of delivering 50,000 volts.

0:55:280:55:43

If you make any sudden movements, it may be used against you.

0:55:440:55:47

The suspect is arrested without Paris firing her Taser.

0:55:480:56:08

He's turned back and realised he is caught between me

0:56:090:56:15

and the Trojan car, and given himself up.

0:56:160:56:18

At the minute you are detained for the purpose

0:56:190:56:25

You've been seen to decamp from a vehicle.

0:56:260:56:28

It's believed you may have some weapons on you.

0:56:290:56:30

The whole time he's running, he kept going for something

0:56:310:56:34

Well, to me, that can indicate you've got a weapon on you, OK?

0:56:350:56:43

That's why you were issued with a red dot from a Taser,

0:56:440:56:46

No weapon was found on either suspect, and the two

0:56:470:56:50

But the driver was found guilty of dangerous driving

0:56:510:56:55

If someone had been sitting in that car or crossing in front of it,

0:56:560:57:04

And that's the reality of the way these kids are driving.

0:57:050:57:07

So we need to deal with it as seriously as we do.

0:57:080:57:10

These lads obviously had something they wanted to hide.

0:57:110:57:12

The chap that was chasing them said he could see something long down

0:57:130:57:15

I'd say they probably were carrying weapons

0:57:160:57:18

We've got a very big gang problem at the moment,

0:57:190:57:22

and this is likely to be linked to that.

0:57:230:57:39

I once stopped the car, jumped out, and started running towards

0:57:400:57:51

He had been decapitated. There is every chance he might nick a lot of

0:59:160:59:23

people now. And I did this, so I have to be

0:59:240:59:51

the one to finish it.
