The vision of angels A History of the Titanic in 30 Pieces

There's a postcard produced by a company called Bamford.

Just a few weeks after the sinking of the Titanic,

they produced a series of six postcards,

to sell, I believe, commercially.

It shows the Titanic going down with angels ascending up into heaven

from the ship, and then on the bottom,

are the words of the hymn, Nearer, My God, To Thee.

I think there's enough eyewitnesses

to believe it was actually

played as the ship sank.

The female figure on the side appears to be commending those

in the ship ascending to heaven in their final hours.

Many here, sitting in these pews, helped build the Titanic.

And she was described as unsinkable.

This card would have said it. In the midst of all this, there is a God.

A God who people could turn to.

So, I believe it would have brought comfort to people.
