Cadair Idris, the mountain range,

is definitely...the best in Wales.

Everybody said it was Snowdon, but everybody goes up Snowdon.

It's like... It's like the M1!

People don't know about Cadair Idris, so it's much quieter.

It's more private and full of stories and legends.

Tell us about the name of the mountain.

-Right, cadair...

-Cadair.

-..is Welsh for a chair.

-I think you have a similar word?

-Cathaoir, in Irish, yes.

-Cathaoir.

Well, we're cadair and Idris is the name of a man.

So, it's Cadair Idris. Do you want to give that a go?

And, apparently - there are lots of different stories,

but this is the one we go with - Idris was a giant.

And he would sit on those mountains over there and, eventually,

over time, his backside, sort of, gouged a, kind of,

backside-shaped hole in the mountain range.

So, that is why it's Cadair Idris.

If you sleep on the summit - and I have done a couple of times now...

or you don't wake up, at all, as in, you're dead, basically.

You have also found inspiration for your own writing in this area?

I have. I mean, look around you here.

I mean...it's probably one of the most romantic places in Wales,

in my opinion.

I write novels and things now and I have written about this place

so many times. It is just... It gets into your blood, somehow.

It just doesn't let you go.

I'm afraid we're not going to be reaching the summit today, Bethan.

Erm...would have.

I used to be a very active person. That's probably why I had to have

a new hip. But I tell you, when I am back up on that summit,

I will be crying. There will be tears in my eyes.

-Overwhelmed with emotion?

-Yep. Emotion, not pain, I hope, yeah.

Yeah. No, it's definitely one of my ambitions now,

to get back up there.
