2 - The Weeping Angels: Blink Doctor Who: Greatest Monsters & Villains

Hello it's Joel again and welcome to Doctor Who's greatest Monsters and

Villains as voted for by you. This next entry will have you scared

stiff. Literally. But who could it be? Shall I put you out of your

misery? It's been two days, what are you waiting for. OK chill.

Seriously. The monsters that are responsible for a whole generation

of children, and indeed adults, being terrified of statues and

developing dry eyeballs from a lack of blinking. Your second placed

greatest monster and villain is of course? The Weeping Angels. They are

coming. The angels are coming for you. But listen, don't blink, don't

even blink. Blink and you are dead. They are faster than you could

believe. Don't turn your back, don't look away and don't blink. The shear

simplicity of their menace is what makes them so terrifying. Based on

the children's game, Grandmas Footsteps - which basically trains

kids to sneak up on the elderly. The idea that an everyday object that we

take for granted like a statue, could actually be a deadly alien

assassin, poised for attack. And much like someone who picks their

nose in public, they will only do this when they think they aren't

being watched. That's a cut guys. So now we have a reason for disliking

those creepy performers in the town centre. It is believed that the

Weeping Angels have been around since the start of the universe,

along with dark matter and Brucie. They are an alien species that feed

off the energy produced from sending people back through time and space.

Which they do by simply touching you. The only way to ensure they

don't get you, is to look at them. This puts them in a quantum locked

state. Which is a science wiencey way of saying they turn to stone.

That's why they cover their eyes. They are not weeping. They can't

risk looking at each other. Their greatest asset is their greatest

curse. And as if all this wasn't terrifying enough, even being in the

presence of an Angel's image, be that a photo or on a tv screen,

means they can manifest and still get you. As they say, "That which

takes the image of an Angel, becomes itself an Angel." Coming in this

next episode we see the Angels for the very first time when they

terrorise, a yet to be really famous, Carey Mulligan. What does

that mean? An image of an angel becomes itself an angel. For force

must protect in his absence. Oh, need to put some money on the meter.

And it also sees the first victim of the Angels being transported back to

Hull in the 1920s. And if you are wondering what that must have been

we are with the monsters that are the perfect deterrent to graveyard
