0:00:000:00:01

- Keep still, private! - My legs! My legs!

0:00:010:00:03

- Keep looking at me. - Get me out!

0:00:030:00:04

Going to get you out of here, all right?

0:00:040:00:06

'My name's Molly Dawes.

0:00:100:00:13

'I live off the Portway with my three sisters, two brothers,

0:00:130:00:17

'my pregnant mum and...my tosspot of a dad.'

0:00:170:00:21

Oh, get off, Dave, you do stink.

0:00:210:00:23

SIREN BLARES

0:00:230:00:25

You love me.

0:00:290:00:30

Not as much as you love yourself.

0:00:300:00:32

Stop it.

0:00:340:00:36

If it's £10 to get in and drinks cost a fortune,

0:00:390:00:41

we just make sure we get trollied before we get in there.

0:00:410:00:43

Tin of Red Bull, yeah?

0:00:430:00:45

Pour half away, fill the rest up with vodka.

0:00:450:00:48

That is me sorted.

0:00:480:00:50

Well, that's 40 for you and your mum, Shaz.

0:00:500:00:52

The black, the black dress with the...

0:00:520:00:54

- Small varnish, please, love. - No, not today, Dad.

0:00:540:00:56

Yes, today.

0:00:560:00:57

Change for me 20?

0:00:580:01:00

MUSIC: Rather Be by Clean Bandit

0:01:000:01:03

SHAZ: He's such a tool.

0:01:060:01:07

# If you gave me a chance, I would take it

0:01:070:01:10

# It's a shot in the dark but... #

0:01:100:01:14

WOMAN IN TOILET: Oh! Oh, hi, Mol! You all right? Having a good night?

0:01:140:01:17

Yeah, wicked. Bung us an oily, Mare.

0:01:170:01:20

Oh, ta.

0:01:200:01:22

I'll see you at the table!

0:01:220:01:24

MAN GRUNTS

0:01:250:01:27

GROANING

0:01:300:01:32

SHE RETCHES

0:01:350:01:38

Got any leaflets, then?

0:01:590:02:00

I'm just checking out the options.

0:02:000:02:02

Don't be nervous.

0:02:020:02:03

Oh, I didn't think you'd want the likes of me joining up.

0:02:030:02:06

Take these home and have a butcher's at your leisure.

0:02:060:02:08

What do you have to do, then?

0:02:100:02:12

Well, first, you have to do the BARB test.

0:02:120:02:14

You can do it on the computer.

0:02:140:02:15

Someone of your intelligence, it'll be a piece of cake.

0:02:150:02:17

Me? I'm stupid.

0:02:170:02:19

Well, we can do the BARB test now if you like.

0:02:190:02:22

Find out just how stupid you are.

0:02:220:02:24

What, and I just do it on the computer?

0:02:240:02:27

Do you wanna do it now?

0:02:270:02:28

Ladies and gentlemen,

0:02:320:02:33

if I could have your attention for a moment, please.

0:02:330:02:36

These next two days are very important if you want to progress

0:02:360:02:40

in the British Army, so take every task seriously and try your best.

0:02:400:02:44

'So that was your sit-ups.'

0:02:440:02:45

'The technical selection test is basically a mathematical test.'

0:02:450:02:48

'You've then got your under grasp heave test...'

0:02:480:02:50

- '55 questions.' - '..power bag lift and rope climb.

0:02:500:02:53

- Oi! - Did you fucking "Oi" me?

0:02:530:02:55

My hand slipped, that's all.

0:02:550:02:57

The one-and-a-half-mile run is a very important test.

0:02:570:02:59

Fail and you may as well go home.

0:02:590:03:01

On your marks, go.

0:03:010:03:02

Agh! Agh, agh!

0:03:060:03:07

You all right, Katy?

0:03:070:03:08

- I hurt my ankle! - What are you doing?

0:03:080:03:10

Well, she's fell over.

0:03:100:03:11

What the fuck is this, Two Little Boys? Leave her!

0:03:110:03:14

That is an order!

0:03:140:03:15

How is it?

0:03:150:03:16

Oh, it's all right. Bit better.

0:03:160:03:19

Anyway, I think I might've made

0:03:190:03:21

a bit of a ricket on the clothes front.

0:03:210:03:22

Leggings. Have you got any of them?

0:03:220:03:24

Cos your skirt might be a bit short.

0:03:240:03:26

I ain't got any leggings.

0:03:260:03:27

Here y'are. Take them.

0:03:270:03:30

Go in there and fight for your life.

0:03:300:03:33

You want to join the Royal Army Medical Corps, I see.

0:03:340:03:37

You tell me why I should recommend you.

0:03:400:03:42

Just give me a chance.

0:03:420:03:44

And why should I do that?

0:03:440:03:45

Because I've never had one.

0:03:450:03:46

To be honest, I just wanted to talk to you, like,

0:03:510:03:54

outside the house, away from the noise.

0:03:540:03:56

Well, if it helps you out, we know.

0:03:560:03:58

Yeah, and we don't mind.

0:03:580:04:00

Really?

0:04:000:04:01

Well, you're our daughter, Mol, we love you.

0:04:010:04:03

You're not a little girl any more, so...fair play to you.

0:04:030:04:05

I ain't pregnant! Did you think I was pregnant?

0:04:050:04:08

No.

0:04:080:04:10

I'm joining the army.

0:04:100:04:12

Two Section, line, NOW.

0:04:140:04:17

My name is Corporal Geddings.

0:04:170:04:19

For the next 14 weeks, I am your mother, father, boyfriend,

0:04:190:04:25

grandma and your bloody god all rolled into one.

0:04:250:04:28

You are MINE. More importantly...

0:04:280:04:31

..I am yours.

0:04:330:04:34

I will do my best to make sure that each

0:04:360:04:38

and every one of you make the grade.

0:04:380:04:40

These next few weeks are gonna need your absolute concentration

0:04:400:04:43

and dedication.

0:04:430:04:45

You! Do not drag your kit along the ground!

0:04:450:04:48

Oh, Jesus wept!

0:04:480:04:50

Those determined enough will pass out.

0:04:500:04:52

- Come on, push yourself! - Come on!

0:04:520:04:54

Find the courage. Two weeks you've been here!

0:04:540:04:56

- Now, come on, it's embarrassing. - Don't be a waste of space. Run!

0:04:560:04:59

Those that aren't 100% focused will fail.

0:04:590:05:03

I promise you that as well.

0:05:030:05:05

- Right, come on, ladies! - Come on, girl, jump.

0:05:050:05:07

That's it, come on.

0:05:070:05:08

Lauren?

0:05:080:05:09

Lauren!

0:05:100:05:12

- Is she all right? - Yeah, she's all right.

0:05:120:05:14

Good work, Dawes.

0:05:140:05:15

THEY SCREAM

0:05:150:05:16

ALL SING: # Why is everybody so serious

0:05:160:05:18

# Acting so damn mysterious?

0:05:180:05:20

# You got shades on your eyes and your heels so high

0:05:200:05:23

# That you can't even have a good time

0:05:230:05:25

# Everybody look to the left

0:05:250:05:27

# To the left

0:05:270:05:28

# Everybody look to the right

0:05:280:05:30

# Can you feel that? Yeah!

0:05:300:05:32

# We're paying with love tonight

0:05:320:05:34

# It's not about the money, money, money

0:05:340:05:37

# We don't need your money, money, money

0:05:370:05:39

# We just wanna make the world dance

0:05:390:05:42

# Forget about the price tag... #

0:05:420:05:45

TRAFFIC NOISE

0:05:450:05:46

Left, right, left, right.

0:05:460:05:48

We're gonna have to do so much drill when we get back.

0:05:480:05:50

Three, two, one!

0:05:500:05:52

Her face!

0:05:530:05:54

I've been at work. Let's talk.

0:05:560:05:58

Molly, I know I haven't always loved you well.

0:05:590:06:02

What, you mean shagging other people?

0:06:020:06:04

I always come back to you.

0:06:040:06:07

- Stop doing that! - What?

0:06:070:06:08

Always grabbing my face!

0:06:080:06:10

You don't get to touch my face any more! Just go away.

0:06:100:06:12

What's going on?

0:06:140:06:15

What do you mean, "What's going on?"

0:06:150:06:17

He's been bang up on you coming home and you're treating him like shit!

0:06:170:06:20

What's going on with you?

0:06:200:06:21

Just fucking marry him, Molly, for Daddy.

0:06:210:06:23

We've come up with a way to make us...well, not rich, but sorted.

0:06:230:06:27

You and Artan?

0:06:270:06:28

Exactly. I've got a start with a Russian firm building on Aldgate.

0:06:280:06:31

Artan's got a cousin working there.

0:06:310:06:33

Now, if I can persuade you to marry him,

0:06:330:06:34

his cousin'll put a nail gun through me hand.

0:06:340:06:36

Fucking hell, Dad.

0:06:360:06:37

I'll get a huge wedge of compensation from the Russians

0:06:370:06:40

and I'll be on the sick for life.

0:06:400:06:41

If you don't, Mol, there will be very serious repercussions

0:06:410:06:44

for the whole family, yeah?

0:06:440:06:45

I promise you, you won't see any of us again.

0:06:470:06:50

PHONE RINGTONE

0:06:520:06:54

Who was that?

0:06:560:06:58

Oh, it's my sister. I didn't feel like chatting.

0:06:580:07:01

Mum, it's only me.

0:07:010:07:04

If that was Molly, she's been told.

0:07:040:07:05

We don't want nothing to do with her no more.

0:07:050:07:08

You will come to passing out, won't you, Mum?

0:07:080:07:10

If she ever rings, you put the phone straight down, yeah?

0:07:100:07:13

Yes.

0:07:130:07:14

Please try. It's a big deal.

0:07:140:07:16

It's important.

0:07:180:07:19

MARCHING BAND PLAYS

0:07:240:07:27

RADIO: '..devastating blast triggered by just one man

0:07:290:07:31

'wearing a suicide belt.'

0:07:310:07:33

- Very well, sir. - And all the very best in the RAMC.

0:07:330:07:36

- Thank you, sir. - Well done.

0:07:360:07:37

BUSTLING VOICES

0:07:390:07:41

EXPLOSION MAN SCREAMING

0:07:450:07:47

- Keep still, private! - My legs! My legs!

0:07:470:07:49

- Keep looking at me. - Get me out!

0:07:490:07:50

Gonna get you out of here, all right?

0:07:500:07:52

Right now, I'm in charge, all right? Man up!

0:07:520:07:55

WHISTLE BLOWS

0:07:550:07:57

Hey, good work, private.

0:07:580:08:00

Thanks, Sarge.

0:08:000:08:01

So, why did you pick the private?

0:08:010:08:03

Well, he lost both legs, was losing a lot of blood.

0:08:030:08:05

- I had to make a decision quickly. - What about me?

0:08:050:08:07

Took full impact of the blast. Assessed, unable to survive.

0:08:070:08:10

No, seriously, when you were screaming your nut off,

0:08:120:08:14

I thought something really happened!

0:08:140:08:16

No, seriously...

0:08:160:08:17

Private Dawes! You got a visitor down the guardroom.

0:08:170:08:19

Mum? Ooh!

0:08:190:08:22

- How did you get here? - The train.

0:08:240:08:26

- Does Dad know you're here? - No.

0:08:260:08:29

You never come to passing out.

0:08:290:08:31

Well, it was difficult with your dad.

0:08:310:08:34

Does he hate me?

0:08:350:08:36

Oh, he loves you, Molly. I had to see you.

0:08:360:08:39

I had to touch you.

0:08:390:08:41

Don't, you'll set me off, Mum. You know what I'm like.

0:08:410:08:44

SHE SOBS

0:08:440:08:45

Do you have to go?

0:08:450:08:47

I want to go.

0:08:470:08:49

In Flanders fields the poppies blow

0:08:510:08:54

Between the crosses, row on row

0:08:540:08:57

That mark our place, and in the sky

0:08:580:09:03

The larks, still bravely singing, fly

0:09:030:09:08

Scarce heard amid the guns below.

0:09:080:09:10

We are the dead; scarce days ago

0:09:120:09:16

We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow

0:09:160:09:22

Loved and were loved, and now we lie

0:09:220:09:28

In Flanders fields.

0:09:280:09:30

Take up our quarrel with the foe!

0:09:330:09:35

To you from failing hands we throw

0:09:360:09:40

The torch; be yours to hold it high!

0:09:400:09:45

If ye break faith with us who die

0:09:460:09:48

We shall not sleep, though poppies grow

0:09:480:09:52

In Flanders fields.

0:09:540:09:56

Our girl'll be all right.

0:09:560:09:58

I'm Molly, by the way.

0:10:170:10:19

Me and you, we're soul sisters.

0:10:210:10:23

They are saying they are targeting the females.

0:10:230:10:26

I don't want special treatment, I'm the medic, I should go.

0:10:260:10:29

Come on, talk to me, I've come to save you!

0:10:290:10:31

Dawes, are you OK?

0:10:320:10:33

# And if you're still bleeding, you're the lucky ones... #

0:10:350:10:39

I'll always be there for you.

0:10:390:10:41

# ..Cos most of our feelings, they are dead and they are gone... #

0:10:410:10:47

Get ready for the new series of Our Girl with our 10 minute recap starring Lacey Turner. On the evening of her 18th birthday Molly Dawes finds herself drunk and is sick in the doorway of an Army Recruitment Office. She looks into the window of the office and sees a life sized photograph of an Army girl, everything that Molly isn't but wants to be - respected. The following morning Molly finds herself back in the locale and steels herself sufficiently to go into the Army Recruitment Office. Truculent and full of self doubt, she takes the leaflets and is eventually persuaded to complete an aptitude test. No one thinks she can stick it out. Including herself. But slowly and surely Molly is maturing and learning to believe in herself. She digs in and finds a strength that she never thought she had.
