Derek Brockway can't resist a good work, especially when it is for | 0:00:16 | 0:00:24
Children In Need. And ten choirs from around the UK | 0:00:25 | 0:00:29
join together in song including our Welsh Choir in the arena. | 0:00:30 | 0:00:37
Now Llandudno is a lovely seaside town on the North | 0:00:38 | 0:00:40
Wales coast, it truly is a jewel set in a silver sea, but recently it was | 0:00:41 | 0:00:41
the scene of a breaking news story - here's Jamie Owen. | 0:00:42 | 0:00:46
Good evening and welcome to Wales Today. A yellow bear has been | 0:00:47 | 0:00:56
spotted on a tram in Llandudno. We will have a full report. | 0:00:57 | 0:01:02
Good evening and welcome to the programme. A mysterious yellow bear | 0:01:03 | 0:01:08
has been sighted in the seaside town of Llandudno in Conwy. Live to our | 0:01:09 | 0:01:13
reporter on the scene. Thanks, Jamie. It was around 10.00 this | 0:01:14 | 0:01:18
morning when the first reports came in of an injured bear spotted in | 0:01:19 | 0:01:22
parts of Llandudno. This picture appeared on the social media and | 0:01:23 | 0:01:27
later on, this shaky footage emerged and the bear seemed to be waving to | 0:01:28 | 0:01:33
passers-by. What was it like? There was a big bear and he was walking | 0:01:34 | 0:01:38
around waving to people and shaking their hand. He didn't speak, just | 0:01:39 | 0:01:44
mostly waving. Thank you. The sightings carried on throughout the | 0:01:45 | 0:01:48
day. Then, one of our reporters spotted the bear getting on to the | 0:01:49 | 0:01:52
tram. Here is the exclusive report. It was just before 2.00pm that we | 0:01:53 | 0:01:57
captured this amazing footage of the giant yellow bear. He appeared to | 0:01:58 | 0:02:03
pay his fare and carried on. We managed to catch up with him. Excuse | 0:02:04 | 0:02:09
me. What are you doing here? Are you hurt? What is your name? The large | 0:02:10 | 0:02:15
bear left the scene and his whereabouts remains a mystery. | 0:02:16 | 0:02:25
We are now at Ysgol Tudno. As the choir rehearse, all the talk is of | 0:02:26 | 0:02:28
that strange, yellow bear. Nobody is sure where he will appear next. | 0:02:29 | 0:02:36
Thank you. With new sightings being reported all over Wales, we will | 0:02:37 | 0:02:39
keep you posted on this breaking news story. It is time for the | 0:02:40 | 0:02:46
weather forecast now with Derek Brockway. | 0:02:47 | 0:02:55
And thanks to the pupils of Ysgol Tudno who helped us make | 0:02:56 | 0:02:57
As you saw there, they are part of our Children In Need Choir, who | 0:02:58 | 0:02:59
later on will be singing with our special guests Richard and Adam. | 0:03:00 | 0:03:03
How you doing? Very well. How are you? Very good. You are local lads. | 0:03:04 | 0:03:12
How does it feel to be here? It is amazing to be here in Llandudno and | 0:03:13 | 0:03:17

Richard and Adam with When You Believe. A film now about a charity | 0:08:36 | 0:08:58
that receives funding from Children In Need. It is a joyful, happy | 0:08:59 | 0:09:04
place. It is a hub for not just the childcare, but the family itself. It | 0:09:05 | 0:09:10
offers day-care for children with a range of conditions, such as autism, | 0:09:11 | 0:09:16
Down's syndrome and some with life-limiting illnesses. Your | 0:09:17 | 0:09:23
donations pay for Paula, the all-round mother hen and full-time | 0:09:24 | 0:09:27
outreach worker. Sometimes I see parents for the first time. They | 0:09:28 | 0:09:31
come here and they are desperate, they just want the best for their | 0:09:32 | 0:09:35
child. And they want their child to be able to be happy and feel safe | 0:09:36 | 0:09:45
and secure. Clever boy. Things were really difficult when Tristan was | 0:09:46 | 0:09:50
first born. Without the support of Y Bont we wouldn't be where we are | 0:09:51 | 0:09:54
today. The way the staff are to the children, it is fantastic. Can you | 0:09:55 | 0:10:01
see a red tomato? For Jackson, Y Bont makes a massive difference. | 0:10:02 | 0:10:04
Before he came here, he couldn't walk. He didn't talk, he wasn't very | 0:10:05 | 0:10:12
confident. He's flourished. He is a completely different boy. What you | 0:10:13 | 0:10:17
been doing? My daughter is called Bethany. She came to Y Bont when he | 0:10:18 | 0:10:27
was nine-months-old. Paula was so reassuring, I was so anxious. She is | 0:10:28 | 0:10:31
such a lovely person. Come and see me again soon because you have grown | 0:10:32 | 0:10:40
so much. Paula is Y Bont, Y Bont is Paula. In Paula's 17 years here, she | 0:10:41 | 0:10:46
has helped 2,000 families. I have been privileged to have worked with | 0:10:47 | 0:10:50
so many wonderful children over the years. They touch your heart. They | 0:10:51 | 0:10:57
really do. And to watch them reach their goals, you can't put a price | 0:10:58 | 0:11:02
on that. Paula has a very big heart. And not just for the children, but | 0:11:03 | 0:11:07
the staff, the parents, everybody. She is amazing. She does such a | 0:11:08 | 0:11:11
fabulous job. I have learnt everything from Paula. You can | 0:11:12 | 0:11:15
always go to Paula about anything. We all love Paula. She is lovely. We | 0:11:16 | 0:11:20
love her. She just is so proud of each and every one of those | 0:11:21 | 0:11:25
children. To me, this isn't a job, it's a way of life. You can help | 0:11:26 | 0:11:30
other children smile. Thank you. To give online now go | 0:11:31 | 0:11:40

starting to talk like him. Even thinking about him, you start to | 0:17:24 | 0:17:27
talk like him. Audience, good you applaud again as | 0:17:28 | 0:17:34

OK, Tom Jones, thank your for your time, are you looking forward to | 0:17:45 | 0:17:47
Children In Need? Yes. Rob Brydon. Welsh night. | 0:17:48 | 0:17:58
Lovely. It is great, for a very worthy | 0:17:59 | 0:18:03
cause. He is very funny. I like to think of it. | 0:18:04 | 0:18:07
And I am very funny as well, it is Welsh humour. | 0:18:08 | 0:18:17
I was 50 this year. You were 100. The new record is fantastic. A lot | 0:18:18 | 0:18:21
of people, they don't really care we are recording a TV programme. | 0:18:22 | 0:18:26
Just carry on talking. There he goes! | 0:18:27 | 0:18:33
He has done it again. Now, the story of another amazing | 0:18:34 | 0:18:39
journey for Children In Need. The team have hit the road again along | 0:18:40 | 0:18:44
with six young riders supported by a Children In Need project, their | 0:18:45 | 0:18:49
toughest challenge as they peddle 417 miles from lands end. | 0:18:50 | 0:18:55
To the east end. An incredible and challenging journey. | 0:18:56 | 0:19:02
And, for all six, and experience they will never forget. | 0:19:03 | 0:19:07
Are we ready? Tonight, the finish line is in sight. | 0:19:08 | 0:19:13
One of the highlights was when the team arrived in Elstree and Matt | 0:19:14 | 0:19:17
Baker and his fellow riders were greeted on stage by Fearne Cotton. | 0:19:18 | 0:19:27
It is so good to see you. I have been watching the whole story play | 0:19:28 | 0:19:32
out. And it has been incredible, I am so excited to meet you, so | 0:19:33 | 0:19:37
overwhelmed with what you have done. Let us get that total right now. | 0:19:38 | 0:19:49
It is coming up there. This was just the first of some | 0:19:50 | 0:19:54
amazing totals in a record-breaking year of fundraising. Still to come | 0:19:55 | 0:19:59
tonight. Gracing the stage at Venue Cymru, | 0:20:00 | 0:20:07
Hannah Grace. Derek Brockway joins a ramble for Children In Need. | 0:20:08 | 0:20:11
And the maddest four minutes of TV you will see this year. For now, | 0:20:12 | 0:20:16
back to Elstree. Singing Way Back Home, the legend | 0:20:17 | 0:20:18
himself, Rod Stewart. # I was just a little boy | 0:20:19 | 0:20:21
without a care # I remember looking up | 0:20:22 | 0:20:28
and seeing you there # I never wandered too far | 0:20:29 | 0:20:34
from your side # Cos all the love I needed | 0:20:35 | 0:20:41
was there in your eyes # We grew up in a war-torn city | 0:20:42 | 0:20:48
with a cast-iron wheel # Broken lives, darkened streets | 0:20:49 | 0:20:55
and twisted steel # But around our house | 0:20:56 | 0:21:02
the sky seemed so blue # And on a wing and a prayer | 0:21:03 | 0:21:08
we just muddled through # And we always kept the laughter | 0:21:09 | 0:21:15
and the smile upon our face # In that good old-fashioned British | 0:21:16 | 0:21:22
way with pride and faultless grace # I shall never forget | 0:21:23 | 0:21:29
those childhood days # Tell me what it was | 0:21:30 | 0:21:34
that made our family strong # As our defiant little island | 0:21:35 | 0:21:54
weathered the storm # There never seemed enough | 0:21:55 | 0:22:01
for my plate # You said be grateful | 0:22:02 | 0:22:08
Say grace, don?t complain # How can I ever thank you | 0:22:09 | 0:22:17
for the lessons that I've learnt? # And the precious warmth and | 0:22:18 | 0:22:23
comfort that I felt at every turn # And for those who | 0:22:24 | 0:22:29
sacrificed their lives # I hear your stories | 0:22:30 | 0:22:32
of rage and burning skies # And a nation | 0:22:33 | 0:22:53
with its back against the wall # And we always kept the laughter | 0:22:54 | 0:23:00
and the smile upon our face # In that good old-fashioned British | 0:23:01 | 0:23:20
way with pride and faultless grace # I shall never forget | 0:23:21 | 0:23:27
those childhood days Welcome back to Llandudno | 0:23:28 | 0:23:31
in beautiful North Wales, and with me is a man who lives | 0:23:32 | 0:24:08
about 15 minutes from here, How are you? Very good. Nice to see | 0:24:09 | 0:24:24
you in North Wales. Only five hours away, I am a bit jet | 0:24:25 | 0:24:29
lagged. All in the name of charity. You have made a film for us? | 0:24:30 | 0:24:35
I went to meet some inspirational people and some wonderful horses. | 0:24:36 | 0:24:38
Say no more, let us watch that film. High upon the hills here, I am | 0:24:39 | 0:24:52
meeting the owners, Lindsay and Ian, and their horse. | 0:24:53 | 0:24:57
I have always had horses and loved riding, and I believe it is very | 0:24:58 | 0:25:02
therapeutic. I want you to meet a young lady who | 0:25:03 | 0:25:07
has been coming here for three years. | 0:25:08 | 0:25:13
A long illness had a profound effect on her, she stopped going to school | 0:25:14 | 0:25:17
and missed out on a lot of her childhood. | 0:25:18 | 0:25:23
I was in and out of hospital when I was 11. I missed a lot of school, so | 0:25:24 | 0:25:30
I didn't have many friends. I had no confidence. | 0:25:31 | 0:25:34
I didn't talk to anyone. Her mum remembers a shy, troubled girl, who | 0:25:35 | 0:25:38
struggled with her illness. She would go to the hospital at the | 0:25:39 | 0:25:42
very beginning and would not talk to anybody. | 0:25:43 | 0:25:45
The nurses had to talk through me or her father, she would not answer. | 0:25:46 | 0:25:49
Regular contact with these horses has made a huge difference. | 0:25:50 | 0:25:55
If we are confident, the horse will be confident. A young person who is | 0:25:56 | 0:26:00
nervous and becomes confident gets a much better experience from the | 0:26:01 | 0:26:04
horse which will respond to them. It can be quite magical, the | 0:26:05 | 0:26:08
transformation. She is a much happier teenager now | 0:26:09 | 0:26:11
and her mum thinks without the farm things would have turned out very | 0:26:12 | 0:26:15
differently. I think she would be in a very bad | 0:26:16 | 0:26:20
place. She wasn't able to cope, to come out of her room on some days. | 0:26:21 | 0:26:25
Mum would do everything for me. Now, I can talk to people and have a lot | 0:26:26 | 0:26:30
more confidence. I don't rely on my mum now. I don't | 0:26:31 | 0:26:35
know where we would be without the place. | 0:26:36 | 0:26:39
It is just fantastic. To continue helping young people, we need more | 0:26:40 | 0:26:44
donations because this farmer arise on funding from Children In Need -- | 0:26:45 | 0:26:50
this farm relies. To think these horses and people can | 0:26:51 | 0:26:55
change lives in such a positive way. Your money is making a difference. | 0:26:56 | 0:27:06
Right here in Wales. Animals changing people's lies, what | 0:27:07 | 0:27:11
did you take from that experience? It was a wonderfully humbling | 0:27:12 | 0:27:15
experience for me. As a big, strong farmer with three | 0:27:16 | 0:27:19
healthy children, it gives you a concept of what was going on with | 0:27:20 | 0:27:24
these children. It can be worse than what we saw. | 0:27:25 | 0:27:29
There is a lot more. We have shown this positive story | 0:27:30 | 0:27:34
but there is worse than that. Just one great example of your | 0:27:35 | 0:27:38

Now it wouldn't be Children In Need without Derek Brockway. | 0:31:39 | 0:31:48
Before that, he impersonated the First Minister, | 0:31:49 | 0:31:52
but this year he wanted to support Children In Need by doing something | 0:31:53 | 0:31:55
that is close to his heart - walking in the Welsh countryside. | 0:31:56 | 0:32:01
It's a bright October morning and we are all meeting up here at the Red | 0:32:02 | 0:32:08
Cow Pub, raising money for Children In Need. Everyone ready? Yes! Let's | 0:32:09 | 0:32:11
go. Our walk starts on the dam at the | 0:32:12 | 0:32:22
end of the reservoir. If you are tall enough to see over the wall, it | 0:32:23 | 0:32:28
is not a bad view. This walk is one of many Children In Need rambles | 0:32:29 | 0:32:32
inspired by the Countryfile TV programme. You organised this walk. | 0:32:33 | 0:32:37
Who are all these people? There's a bunch of young farmers and farmers | 0:32:38 | 0:32:40
themselves and we have the ability to do this sort of thing and enjoy | 0:32:41 | 0:32:46
the views. Why not do it for a worthwhile charity like Children In | 0:32:47 | 0:32:52
Need? Also taking in the views, are some ambassadors from Mencap Cymru. | 0:32:53 | 0:32:56
They receive funding from Children In Need to help them get out more | 0:32:57 | 0:33:01
and make new friends. Sian Davies is from Mencap Cymru. Have you seen a | 0:33:02 | 0:33:05
big change in the people who have become ambassadors? Absolutely. Just | 0:33:06 | 0:33:11
really subtly to begin with, but in terms of confidence, their belief, | 0:33:12 | 0:33:15
their worth, and their relationships with each other, their families as | 0:33:16 | 0:33:17
well as they develop that independence. Ash is one of the | 0:33:18 | 0:33:21
Mencap ambassadors. What is it like being an ambassador? Yeah. Just be | 0:33:22 | 0:33:32
yourself? Yeah. You want people to respect you? Yes. What sort of | 0:33:33 | 0:33:36
things do you do being an ambassador, do you have lots of fun? | 0:33:37 | 0:33:44
Yeah, horse riding, drinking. That is all the things I like to do! I | 0:33:45 | 0:33:48
wonder if there are any horses around here today. Way up the field. | 0:33:49 | 0:33:54
Up the field. Wild horses. You know, this walk has been just right for | 0:33:55 | 0:33:59
everyone. Dogs, children, and even old crocs like me. I have had a | 0:34:00 | 0:34:03
great morning, walking in the fresh Welsh air, raising money for Pudsey. | 0:34:04 | 0:34:06
Right, let's carry on walking. And if you would like to add | 0:34:07 | 0:34:14
your own donation to the money raised by the young farmers on their | 0:34:15 | 0:34:15
walk, here's how you can do it. To give online now go | 0:34:16 | 0:34:17
to bbc.co.uk/pudsey, or you can donate ?10 | 0:34:18 | 0:34:20

# Dancing in my tails. # Now one of the highlights | 0:39:20 | 0:39:24
of Children In Need in recent years has been the | 0:39:25 | 0:39:33
UK Choir - ten choirs from all over This year, our Welsh Choir is made | 0:39:34 | 0:39:35
up of children from four local Llandudno schools | 0:39:36 | 0:39:39
and, in my opinion, they are without # There's a voice inside my head | 0:39:40 | 0:39:42
saying # There's always gonna be | 0:39:43 | 0:40:02
another mountain # I'm always gonna | 0:40:03 | 0:40:33
wanna make it move # Ain't about what's waiting | 0:40:34 | 0:40:36
on the other side # But these are the moments that | 0:40:37 | 0:40:53
I'm gonna remember most, yeah # There's always gonna be | 0:40:54 | 0:41:21
another mountain # I'm always gonna | 0:41:22 | 0:41:40
wanna make it move # Ain't about what's waiting | 0:41:41 | 0:41:43
on the other side # There's always gonna be | 0:41:44 | 0:42:00
another mountain # I'm always gonna | 0:42:01 | 0:42:17
wanna make it move # There's always gonna be | 0:42:18 | 0:42:20
another mountain # I'm always gonna | 0:42:21 | 0:43:04
wanna make it move # Ain't about what's waiting | 0:43:05 | 0:43:07
on the other side # There's always gonna be | 0:43:08 | 0:43:26

wanna make it move # Ain't about what's waiting | 0:43:36 | 0:43:36
on the other side It gets me every time, well done to | 0:43:37 | 0:44:22
the schools who made up the Welsh choir this year. Now for something | 0:44:23 | 0:44:24
completely different. Good evening and welcome to the | 0:44:25 | 0:44:34
history of TV in four minutes. Me? I don't believe it. | 0:44:35 | 0:44:40

I always standard by the people we meet on days like, families coping | 0:51:55 | 0:52:07
with tough times, and fantastic project workers who want to help | 0:52:08 | 0:52:12
others. In the form you are about to see, we meet a project worker called | 0:52:13 | 0:52:17
Andy, there to help a family through their darkest days. He | 0:52:18 | 0:52:18
used music to do that. This is my brother's pyjamas, | 0:52:19 | 0:52:30
someone very clever them together a monkey. | 0:52:31 | 0:52:41
We didn't need him anymore. In January 20 13th, Dylan's brother | 0:52:42 | 0:52:47
Tyler was diagnosed with a rare neurological disease, infantile | 0:52:48 | 0:52:55
dystrophy, there is no cure. To be told that actually he is going | 0:52:56 | 0:52:58
to die, it was a tough day. Over the following months, Dylan | 0:52:59 | 0:53:04
and his parents could only watch He couldn't walk and he was | 0:53:05 | 0:53:07
struggling to feed himself. And there came a point where he | 0:53:08 | 0:53:14
wasn't able to sit up any more, We needed to spend | 0:53:15 | 0:53:17
as much time with him and make his life as happy as possible and make | 0:53:18 | 0:53:26
lots of lovely memories together. Hi, Dylan! | 0:53:27 | 0:53:31
How are you doing? We're being filmed today, Andy. | 0:53:32 | 0:53:33
I know! Andy is a music therapist from | 0:53:34 | 0:53:39
a charity called Thomas's Fund. He first visited the house 16 months | 0:53:40 | 0:53:47
ago, when Tyler was still alive. He was just such a precious, | 0:53:48 | 0:53:52
lovely boy. Every time I come to visit Dylan, | 0:53:53 | 0:54:01
Tyler is the reason. So Andy would set up the chimes | 0:54:02 | 0:54:04
and Tyler would be lying in my arms, and he moved his arm and | 0:54:05 | 0:54:17
it would brush across the chimes. He did, didn't he? | 0:54:18 | 0:54:21
He used his hand. Those times I spent with Tyler | 0:54:22 | 0:54:29
on my lap, with Andy, Just over a year ago, Tyler finally | 0:54:30 | 0:54:40
lost his battle with the disease. The doctor came and shone | 0:54:41 | 0:54:48
a light into his eyes and he said, "I'm so sorry, he's not alive any | 0:54:49 | 0:55:03
more," and then my dad carried him out of the house, and he got put | 0:55:04 | 0:55:06
into this van and was taken away. After Tyler passed away, | 0:55:07 | 0:55:16
Andy got in touch and he asked if Dylan would like to have | 0:55:17 | 0:55:19
some music sessions with him. When I see Dylan with Andy, | 0:55:20 | 0:55:23
I just see happiness. With your donations, | 0:55:24 | 0:55:29
we'd like to help more families It's only afterwards that you | 0:55:30 | 0:55:33
realise just how important those times were and why something | 0:55:34 | 0:55:43
like Thomas's Fund has such an important part to play in the | 0:55:44 | 0:55:46
lives of terminally ill children. He is still alive, | 0:55:47 | 0:55:52
he's just moved countries. But that's not the case, | 0:55:53 | 0:56:01
because he's really gone to heaven. To give online now go | 0:56:02 | 0:56:13
to bbc.co.uk/pudsey, or you can donate ?10 | 0:56:14 | 0:56:21
by texting DONATE to 70710. Here is Terry Wogan still making an | 0:56:22 | 0:56:28
appearance on Children In Need. They want you to bring the Star Wars | 0:56:29 | 0:56:37
super fan onstage for the first Totaliser of the | 0:56:38 | 0:57:00

about the Totaliser? Sir Terry is no good | 0:57:44 | 0:57:46
at keeping secrets. I have a Han Solo one back at home, | 0:57:47 | 0:57:48

impression. Maybe I can't do a basic Yoda | 0:58:45 | 0:58:46
impression, as you call it, Which one | 0:58:47 | 0:58:49

of pressing the Totaliser button. We made you a Millennium Falcon | 1:01:44 | 1:01:56

cockpit? R2 is receiving | 1:02:03 | 1:02:03
another transmission. I heard you were looking for | 1:02:04 | 1:02:15
the ultimate Star Wars super fan. Before you answer, | 1:02:16 | 1:02:23
who got you into this business? You've done something | 1:02:24 | 1:02:27
before you worked with us? Is it something anyone | 1:02:28 | 1:02:32
has ever heard of? About this button thing, | 1:02:33 | 1:02:36
I think I would be... Whatever. | 1:02:37 | 1:02:52
