Hello and welcome to Hogmanay Live 2013.

I'm here, on Edinburgh's Princes Street, where else, with 75,000

people enjoying one of the world's biggest street parties as we

countdown to a huge year for Scotland 2014. We will be

celebrating the new year right across Scotland, bringing you

celebrations from all over the country. First we go to Inverness,

where you can see everyone there is getting in the party mood. We will

then be popping up in Stonehaven later to bring you a flavour of the

famous Fireballs Ceremony, with some of the hottest swingers in town. You

know, it just wouldn't be Hogmanay without live music and the legendary

Phil Cunningham, who this year is at the the Old Fruitmarket in Glasgow.

Phil, tell us how you will be partying into the new year? Jackie,

you never write or phone. We are here in Glasgow. We are bringing in

the new year at the Old Fruitmarket with a feast of musical delights.

Tonight I'm joined by my very good friend, Aly Bain. We have Glasgow's

Roddy Hart and the Lonesome Fire. Great Scottish tunes from John

McCusker and his extremely talented band and we'll be hearing the

wonderful voice of Heidi Talbot and to top it off the fabulous Boghall

and Bathgate Caledonia Pipe Band. We have a rare treat with a special

version of Daft Punk's Get Lucky. After midnight we will bring you an

exclusive new year message from Rab C Nesbit as well as a filmed

acoustic performance from Biffy Clyro. If that's not enough we have

Catriona Shearer bringing in the bells in Sterling. There are 5,000

people here celebrating Hogmanay on the esplanade of Stirling castle.

Deacon Blue are the headliners tonight as we will bring you some of

their biggest hits. Stirling and everyone else will be joining in our

countrywide sing along of auld lang syne. Just after midnight. There

will be more of that later. First, let's get the party started with

music from the Fruitmarket in Glasgow.

APPLAUSE What an opener from our musicians at

the Old Fruit market. Time is ticking towards midnight when

traditionally everyone gets together to sing auld lang syne, that's just

what we will be doing as we join together for a nationwide version.

It's not just the street parties that you will be hearing from, they

can make themselves heard, you have been uploading your versions on to

our Hogmanay website. We have included some of those too. Let us

come off a nationwide tour. There is no doubt they have been asked to do

this tonight to be headliners here. They are no strangers to a big gig.

The crowd are loving them. It's a party atmosphere. Here they are with

from one of the hottest bands around Biffy Clyro. With minutes to go

before midnight let us remind yourselves of some of the happy

moments the anyway nation will remember from 2013 -- ourselves. In

the year an independence referendum date was set and a new Royal baby

was born, 2013 was filled with many memorable moments for Scotland.

Sporting history was made as and crew Murray realised his dream by

winning the Wimbledon Men's Singles title. Giving up his title as a

football manager, the legendary Sir Alex Fergusson stepped down as

Manchester United boss to spend more time with another team, his wife and

11 grandchildren. COMMENTATOR: Olympic Champion and

gold medal winner, Chris Hoy. Sir Chris Hoy announced his retirement

from competitive cycling. I have den done the very best I can, this is

the end of it. The excitement of the Commonwealth games builds the

Queen's message inside baton will be revealed at the Games' opening

ceremony in Glasgow. Not only did the temperature sore for the 20th

year of T in the Park. The Emily Sande beat the Beatles top 10 album.

The musical featuring the song of the Proproclaimers became a smash

hit. It was announced that Peter Galpaldi will be the 12 Doctor to

take the tardis to new heights. Memories, memories. Some of the

great moments that we celebrated over 2013. The atmosphere is

building here as we edge ever closer to midnight. Now, Hogmanay is not

only a time to celebrate, but it is of course a time for reflection. Let

us take a moment to do just that. Let us head over to the Edinburgh

Wow! As well they might cheer. What a spectacular midnight moment with

firework displays from around the country. Now over the month of

December we asked people to take part in our Auld Lang Syne online

choir and we've chosen some of them to join us as we bring the country

together to sing Scotland's song of friendship.

I feel a rerelease coming on. In these opening minutes of the New

Year we know that in the eyes of the world, they will be on Scotland in

2014 with the Commonwealth games on the independence referendum, so we

turned to Mr Rab C Nesbitt to share his thoughts on the upcoming year.

Hello! And a braw welcome to 2014. It's not just the year, but the

number of people in Govan who will be evicted who will be -- after

spending their universal credit on presents for the children. A

marvellous year ahead. Marvellous. It will see Glasgow hoaxed the

Commonwealth Games. As always, we will provide a common, and London

will take the wealth. Of course, the games will showcase the Glasgow

character. Even Glasgow's hi hedgers will be doing their bit. They will

run what is going to be known as the bungle relay. So-called, because

they do not have a batten. -- bung relay. They will get brown envelopes

they passed from hand to hand. Oh yes, oh yes. Something for all of

the family. Possibly Ricketts by the town the next round of benefit cuts

coming -- by the time. Oh, I tell you, all this and the referendum as

well. Oh yes, that's correct. On September the 18th, we, the people,

will exercise our democratic right to decide who we prefer to be

shafted by. Westminster or Holyrood. I actually think the year

ahead will be optimistic and wonderful. And I will tell you

this, so will you, if you keep your self medicated like me, know what

I'm saying? Happy New Year, you all, there you go! Cheers!

# Happy New Year!

2013 will be a phenomenal year for Scotland, the sporting elite here

for the Commonwealth Games -- 2014. We'll also be commemorating the

centenary of the start of World War I, and historic decision will be

made on the 18th of September with an independence referendum, so with

all of that in store, we went out to ask you what you were looking

forward to in this landmark year. We're looking forward to it because

he's turning 21. A good job. Probably the World Cup, even though

they're not in it. Probably the Ryder Cup. I think the Commonwealth

Games. Exciting. A baby. Good health. Good fishing. I'm just

looking forward to going on my holidays. In January on turning 21,

so I'm looking forward to it. Trying to detox and getting rid of the

toxins. A year prosperity YELLOW getting married, that would be nice.

I'm looking forward to the referendum result. Trying to drag

her along to fitness classes. Having a long life. I'm looking forward to

primary school. The results from the independence thing. Being alive!

People getting on well with each other and being happy. Looking

forward to spending more time together after all these years.

All sorts of things to look forward to, and I know what I'm looking

forward to, and I know there is more music to come. A multitalented

composer who is crossed boundaries working with Mark Knopfler and

Paulao Nutini, and tonight he is playing a special set for us, put

your hands together for John McCusker.

A terrific set from John McCusker and some of our best musicians. And

now others are more home-grown talent, with a song that could not

be more appropriate to night. We leave one castle looking lovely in

the moonlight as we go back to Starling and catch up with Catriona.
