Episode 7 The Apprentice: You're Fired

This is my boardroom. This is my none knee. The product sucks! You

screwed it up! You're fired! You're fired! -- this is my money. The

product sucks! You screwed it up! Good evening and welcome to The

Apprentice: You're Fired!. As we enter the second half of Lord

Sugar's search for his new business partner, with the help of unseen

footage, we will be getting to the bottom of the one who sold himself

short. You know the way some people have "come to bed" eyes? This week

we saw Tom's "I hope they don't hear that" eyes. What I'm smelling

right now is bugs. They are going Welcome to You're Fired!. Tonight's

task of smelling what sells left one candidate in a stink. Azhar,

people are saying you stand around, you are moaning all the time, this

is going wrong, that is going wrong. You don't seem to come forward with

any solution. On that basis, I will have to say that Azhar, you are

Azhar, it is lovely to see you here. Did you work out any - what is the

word I'm looking for? LAUGHTER It will come to me - oh, strategy! Yes.

Are you angry? Are you disappointed? I'm strategically

disappointed. LAUGHTER Yes. You have to get ownership of that

thing! Did you think you were hard done by? I think I was. You have to

respect his decision. It's the way things are. Let's look where it all

went wrong for you. You spent so long discussing the location of the

market, you didn't leave yourself much time to look at products.

Would you rather travel a shorter distance and sell... Can you tell

me which one? I don't know this area. People think he is having a

insistence about strategy? There was no set plan. There was no kind

of process which we needed to follow. It was pretty much let's

see how it goes and hope for the best. There was no strategy in

place to formulate the plan! LAUGHTER That is going to keep

happening! Was there an element of you dropping the bomb in? Were you

saying this because it allows me a reason to say that I have said

this? I think it's - having set up a company and having to devise a

strategy in a recession where it is tough... Yes? It comes frustrating

when people aren't listening to you. That is why it got frustrated for

me. I kept badgering on and on and on... Fine. Oliver, what did you

think of his performance? I thought it was on the right side of the

argument, strategically wise. You weren't able to make your case in

the task or in the boardroom. You were outmanoeuvred by Jade. She

made one or two key points which I think Lord Sugar picked up on. That

is the reason you were fired. Stephanie? Everyone was surprised

by the ending. It shows you can't just cover your back and pick flaws

in the strategy of the team, dare I say it! It doesn't matter what you

say if people don't trust you? Russell? I'm going to be shouting

the word "strategy" at random points throughout the rest of the

week! I will shout it at my cat! "Strategy!" I can't say it now.

furthest away and smell what sells. That was part of the strategy. I

don't see how clearer I could have made it without saying "strategy"

it led to deep-fried Mars bars coming to the candidates' minds.

I'm almost tempted to throw that among you and watch you fight for

it! Were you angered by this representation of your county?

LAUGHTER Really? You look like you Why? It did sell? It died a bit

inside. Have you been back since? Not going back now. Yes, no, how

did you find selling it? I didn't sell much fake tan. The demographic

we were in, there were a lot of people from an ethnic background

which meant it was very difficult selling fake tan! LAUGHTER Yes.

Jade got - we will come to her - she got her first go as project

manager and it almost got her the boot. This task is all about

smelling what's selling. There's something that sells and something

that doesn't sell. So it is logical, is it not, that when you buy some

more, you only buy the stuff that you have learnt is selling? It is

good to have a few different things. If they don't like insects you

could sell them the other things. When you replenish the stock, you

said, "Buy what you think you need." Whatever you think, a

mixture of the other stuff. That is not strategy. You bought everything

again on your second trip? 21 MP3 players... You were not in that

much control to be frank. Do you think she didn't get it?

Absolutely. Do you think your obligation wasn't to say, "What is

your strategy?" But to say, "Don't buy the same stuff again"? Yes, it

was. Around that, it was also about the location, it is about the

amount of time invested. There were a number of pieces, like a jigsaw

we needed to come together to form a strategy. LAUGHTER OK. Listen,

that was - if we had done this task twice - both times we have done it,

somebody hasn't got it? I agree. She didn't get it. She did a great

job of talking herself out of trouble in the boardroom. But

comprehensively failed to test as far as I'm concerned. How obvious

is it? There were lots of things that I couldn't do. Doing exactly

what Lord Sugar says if you possibly can seems to me like quite

high on your list of things to do. LAUGHTER She was like, "No, I'm

going to ignore doing what Lord Sugar says and do something else."

It can't be more obvious? Russell, were you screaming at the telly?

don't know how she could have got that wrong. I'm not a businessman.

I understand you flog what people want. If I said, "Jokes A and B

will work, but joke C doesn't." I'm not going to give joke C a go! I

know what happened. I do like my shopping. You saw loads of stuff

and you thought, "I want loads of everything!" It is a natural

reaction. Is your life a trolley dash? Dale Winton was going, "Pace

yourself!" LAUGHTER There was a point where they were saying the

bugs were selling, gel them. She goes, "I thought -- get them. She

goes, "I thought if they don't like the bugs, I will get the water

bottle instead!" Who is this crazy shopper? APPLAUSE Adam and Jade

haven't always seen kpwrie to eye but that changed tonight -- eye-to-

eye, but that changed tonight. have had a fiery relationship.

have had a few issues with him in the past, ordering me around too

much. Bossy, no manners. God only knows what she is doing here.

has just irritated me and I can't wait to get home. Woah!

today! Everything I hate about her, she seems to have stopped doing.

That is my best day in the whole process so far. Me, too. We have

had our disagreements but we have earnt a mutual respect today.

was impressive? He was fantastic. He had this broad selection of

stuff to sell and he did it. He had all the tricks up his sleeves. He

exact place for Adam? Yes. I felt he's dodged a bullet earlier in the

series, so I think he got off lightly - well, he made the most of

his opportunity. Stephanie, warming to Adam? I have found him pretty

irritating, up until now. When you see him doing his job - I don't

think he said anything deeply sexist this week - he shifted his

presence on to Essex, maybe that is how they bonded, Essex brought them

together. Russell? He gets redder and redder depending on how sexist

he is being. If a female pilot went passed him, his head would probably

go... LAUGHTER Let's look back on your Apprentice journey. You were

known as the quiet one and even when there was cause for

celebration, you were melancholic. How did the boys get on? APPLAUSE

have got you a private room in the Ivy. Go and enjoy yourself. I will

me excited! You looked like a guy on a stag weekend who didn't want

to get married. Being dragged around by his mates into a bar?

When you are in that situation where your team are saying you are

a bad PM and you have made a wrong decision, suddenly after you win,

you rejoice. I didn't warm to that particularly. It was more about,

you know, the whole process behind it, I think. That would give the

impression you are very quiet. What we don't see is you in the house.

Azhar is the body! He has the best physique and he likes to show it.

I love any form of physical activity. He is always skipping.

The guy has got a good physique. is a machine. I can do the same job

of two or three individuals put together. He has hydraulics in him!

ripped! I mean, we find the Ricky, who would like to regard himself as

the physical alpha male in the thing, he is going, "Not like me!"

Could you have taken Ricky? A fight? Ricky is slightly different.

He does things in pretend. I do things in real-life. That is the

difference. LAUGHTER It is very impressive. If only there had been

a task that could utilise this. LAUGHTER That looks the business!

Well done. Well done, you. That is unlikely to be topped as the moment

of the entire series. There was an angle we didn't show before, like a

low angle pointing up at your hips and you ground into it. What video

was that? How did they talk you into doing that? God knows. Russell,

were you impressed? It is good. We saw another side to you - a very

camp side! I thought glitter cannons were -- canons were going

to come out from your fists! It was fun. It was a laugh. I think it is

good we saw that side to you. don't think you did look

uncomfortable, that is what was so great. The look you had, the funny

look in the boardroom, was the same look we know you have when you have

won as well! LAUGHTER The same face for everything. Winning becomes

uncomfortable all the time! Not a man who takes praise well. OK. We

are going to bring you back down to earth. We have to show you comments

from Lord Sugar and your former colleagues and competitors. Azhar,

nice enough fellow, but he seems to be always complaining but not

actually doing anything about it. In the past, he has been criticised

for not speaking up. Now he seems to be saying things for the sake of

it. He slowed down the picking of the location. He kept coming on to

the phone calls and asking questions and there were no

solutions at the end of it. It was strange. It is quite apparent he

hasn't got a clue what he is talking about. He doesn't demand

the respect of his colleagues. They tend to ignore him. As if he

doesn't exist. That is why Azhar had to go. AUDIENCE BOO OK, that is

weird. LAUGHTER We all heard that. That wasn't just me who heard that,

was it? "I have business left on Earth. Avenge me!" From the whole

process, what have you learnt? to wear red shorts! LAUGHTER You

will go back to your own business, which is refrigeration? Yes.

Six months into the business and I realised I have a business here.

Now we employ 18 staff. We export to 11 countries, so we are becoming

a decent-sized organisation. are all right. You will bounce

back! Oliver, you set up a one-shop first? Yes, that's right. In many

ways, it was quite similar to the task they had, which is I would go

backwards and forwards to a warehouse in my station wagon

buying stock when I had the money and selling it in the identical

fashion. Had you, you know, had you a particular plan of what you

many shops do you have now? We have an online store and 32 shops. We

have to be special, different, we have to have a good reason to bring

people into our shops so we have to be exclusive and have things you

can't buy elsewhere. Nick was the winning project manager this week.

This was despite having to manage both his team and his hair! I call

him Hair Flick. He will flick his hair like this. I looked up and I

wasn't sure if it was a heck hog -- hedgehog! Nick's hair is bad. If

you are listening, get it cut! # I wear my hair back-and-forth. #

APPLAUSE That thing, I used to do that all

the time! LAUGHTER All the time. I used to twirl it as well! Ah...

Russell, do you play with your hair? I'm on thin ground here! I

look like a melted Lego man! He's got a posh One Direction character.

I didn't think his hair was that bad. He was supposed to - he didn't

get the product dropped at the store. I do like him. He has been

very impressive? He managed the team well this week. He clearly has

- he does it in a quiet way. I like the fact he's being a leader

without being kind of obnoxious. A lot of people think that the only

way you show your leadership is by being annoying. Is he impressive?

Gabrielle had a good week as well. We saw her being very creative. She

found a new use for beard trimmers. The majority of the people are

women so we have moved over from beard trimmers to bikini line

trimmers. ENGINE WHIRS I have, with respect, ladies, never heard it

called a beard before! I haven't. Maybe you have. LAUGHTER This is

the really - the noise we put on the end of that doesn't do justice

to this. ENGINE WHIRS I would be nervous if it was near my face. Not

to mention somewhere I really treasured! That is quite

agricultural! LAUGHTER Agricultural? Hedge trimmer. I have

never heard it called a hedge as well(!) I like the way you have

maid a -- made a peacock. You can also alter the length of it. It

makes it much more sense when it is a hair trimmer for the ladies. The

1970s look - oh yes. I could go on with this forever! APPLAUSE Mind

you, great to see a bit of classic stick being used with Stephen and

Ricky doing the time-honoured bad back routines. Morning. We have

both got the gift of the gab. have domestic items to sell to you.

Why are you trying to sell me things that I have known since you

a lot of pressure. I'm not sure we have seen him deliver much, so I'm

not sure how much substance there is. He has - he has handled himself

think I would have fired you, but it was this difference that you

pointed out, the difference between looking at the series and the way

you played in the boardroom as a whole. It was sad that you had got

the task right and she got it wrong. Russell? It is that thing, do we

judged it based on the whole series or the fact she messed it up so

much? I think she would have been fired up until the point she said,

"I'll start lots of companies and all of them will make millions."

You had to be fired. She sold herself better in the boardroom.
