transform the lives of people within his community thanks, in

difference to those around them. We sent Chris Hollins to Humshaugh in

Northumberland to meet Dick Moles to find out how his campaign to

save the only shop in his village ended up benefiting people in more

ways than one. When the Post Office here like many others up and down

the country was threatened with closure in 2008 one local resident

wasn't going to give up without a fight. With the help of a National

Lottery grant Dick was able to keep the shop open but before I meet him

I want to find out a little bit more about him and this amazing

community community shop. It is a shop but it's run by

volunteers and without those people we wouldn't have this. They kept it

alive and kept it going. They're fantastic. They give a couple of

hours each day to serve us. I am learning! They're gone!

After spending time working in a shop and talking to the locals, I

found out that Dick's work doesn't just stop with the success of

keeping the shop open. The profits that it general rates are plough --

generates are ploughed back into community projects such as the

local youth group group. And they've helped individuals like

Aaron with a tablet. He is very enthusiastic. A lovely fella.

most recent project to benefit the community is an electric car which

can be used by the entire village. Everyone is gathered for the

official unveiling by Dick and I am going to hide inside to surprise

him. Welcome everybody and thank you for coming to this wonderful

unveiling of our electric car. As you know, the profits from the shop

are ploughed back into the community... He has just arrived.

He is about to make the big reveal of the car. But he doesn't know I

have done for the community, right? We wanted to say thank you on
