In the recent Budget, we set out how we're backing those | 5:14:32 | 5:14:35
who work hard and want to get on. | 5:14:35 | 5:14:37
For people at work, for those starting businesses, | 5:14:37 | 5:14:40
or for those raising families, | 5:14:40 | 5:14:41
we're doing everything we can to help in these tough times. | 5:14:41 | 5:14:44
And that's what Conservatives in local government are doing, too - | 5:14:44 | 5:14:49
freezing council tax, cutting costs, | 5:14:49 | 5:14:52
protecting the services you rely on every day. | 5:14:52 | 5:14:56
The income tax? It's gone...down. | 5:15:00 | 5:15:04
I think the general perception is that it's gone up. | 5:15:04 | 5:15:06
It has gone down slightly under this government. | 5:15:06 | 5:15:08
I don't know, to be honest. | 5:15:08 | 5:15:10
-That does surprise me. -I've noticed that I'm paying less tax, | 5:15:15 | 5:15:18
and that's always helped me with living expenses and stuff like that. | 5:15:18 | 5:15:21
That's got to be an advantage to people on a lower wage. | 5:15:21 | 5:15:25
-I think it's gone down. -Up. -It's stayed about the same. | 5:15:30 | 5:15:34
It's does surprise me that the deficit has gone down. | 5:15:39 | 5:15:42
That's good news. It needs to go down. | 5:15:42 | 5:15:44
It does surprise me that it's gone down that amount. | 5:15:44 | 5:15:46
-Ooh, I'm not sure. -It has stayed the same as last year. -It's the same. | 5:15:51 | 5:15:56
I think it helps anyone who has to pay it. | 5:16:03 | 5:16:05
Council tax frozen is definitely good. | 5:16:05 | 5:16:07
I've noticed that petrol prices have gone down slightly. | 5:16:12 | 5:16:14
The equity loans for those buying new homes will help us. | 5:16:14 | 5:16:18
I do think the government's taking us in the right direction. | 5:16:23 | 5:16:25
Somebody has got to be strong enough to get us out of it. | 5:16:25 | 5:16:28
It was never, ever going to be an overnight job. | 5:16:28 | 5:16:30
It's Labour's problem. Labour did it. | 5:16:30 | 5:16:32
It was under their watch that we got such a massive deficit. | 5:16:32 | 5:16:34
I do genuinely believe that people are quite impressed. | 5:16:34 | 5:16:37
We've seen more jobs, we've seen tax go down. | 5:16:37 | 5:16:39
So the message is clear - we're dealing with the deficit. | 5:16:39 | 5:16:43
We're backing those who work hard and want to get on. | 5:16:43 | 5:16:47
And the choice at the local elections is clear, too - | 5:16:47 | 5:16:50
don't let Labour do to your council what they did to our country. | 5:16:50 | 5:16:56
If you want good government that costs less, | 5:16:56 | 5:16:59
that is careful with your money, | 5:16:59 | 5:17:01
then vote Conservative on the 2nd of May. | 5:17:01 | 5:17:04 |
