The Liberal Democrats: 22/04/2013 Party Election Broadcasts

On May 2nd, you'll have the chance to vote for the people you want

representing you in your county council.

For decades, Liberal Democrat councillors have worked hard

up and down the country to support you and your community,

working hard for people just like you

who care about making things better in your local area -

whether it's creating jobs, or fighting to protect local services.

Building a stronger economy in a fairer society,

enabling everyone to get on in life.

And it's because of the success of our Liberal Democrat councillors

that we're now in government nationally too.

And it's why our top priority in government has been to give you

real help in tough times by cutting your income tax.

If you're one of the millions of ordinary working people

in the UK, we've cut your income tax by £600 a year

since the last election, with more to come next year too.

If I had an extra £600,

I would put a bit extra towards my children's future education.

I think now, with the knowledge

that I had an extra £600 in my pay packet,

I would start to think very carefully

about not going to spend it on a whim.

I think right now I'd be looking to set it against the future costs

that I know, particularly around domestic fuel

and house insurance, which I know are going to cost me more this year.

I would pay off some of the debt, try and get out of our overdraft.

That would probably go towards heating costs.

Electric's gone up, gas has gone up

and food, I think food's going to go up more,

so £600 would be a great help.

Yeah, listen, everyone is struggling, your margins are very tight.

You don't earn as much as what you used to. You know, it's tough times.

It's really hard.

Liberal Democrats have cut taxes for millions of working people

like you by £600 a year since the last election,

with more to come next year.

£600 off the income tax bill of the vast majority

of taxpayers in Britain.

If you earn the minimum wage, we have halved your income tax bill

and if you're one of the 2.5 million people working tirelessly

in the lowest paid jobs, you will no longer pay any income tax at all.

In government and in local councils,

Liberal Democrats are building a stronger economy

and a fairer society, enabling everyone to get on in life.

This will help so many people like myself

and other families, other individuals out there

that are striving and actually trying to contribute.
