And we are back. Welcome to Points Of View,

0:00:020:00:04

the show that gives you the chance to have your say

0:00:040:00:07

on the BBC television programmes you've loved and loathed.

0:00:070:00:11

It was billed as being full of epic fails and big, big wins,

0:00:220:00:26

but BBC One's new Saturday night game show may have only managed

0:00:260:00:30

to live up to PART of that publicity patter.

0:00:300:00:33

Can't Touch This sees 16 contestants battle it out on an assault course

0:00:370:00:42

with the premise that if they touch a prize, they can win it.

0:00:420:00:45

Let's see what he's got.

0:00:450:00:46

-A very sore chin.

-Oh!

0:00:480:00:50

Oh, look, that last grab.

0:00:500:00:52

But, for some of you, it was the format itself

0:00:520:00:55

that ended up falling flat.

0:00:550:00:57

SCREAMING

0:00:590:01:02

Imagine Total Wipeout without

0:01:090:01:11

the humour of Richard Hammond,

0:01:110:01:13

where the audience appear to have gone home in total despair,

0:01:130:01:16

where the desperate presenters try to find something to laugh at.

0:01:160:01:20

You've got it. That's Can't Touch This.

0:01:200:01:23

The show seemed to have too many contestants, was long and drawn-out,

0:01:230:01:27

and 50 minutes' airtime seemed like two hours.

0:01:270:01:31

This should be fun.

0:01:310:01:32

Oh, sorry, I meant painful.

0:01:330:01:35

Can't Touch This, failing to make a splash.

0:01:370:01:40

Sorry. More water sports for you now,

0:01:400:01:43

and last Sunday's Oxford-Cambridge Boat Race.

0:01:430:01:46

It is Cambridge.

0:01:460:01:47

It is Cambridge who take it, who win the 162nd Boat Race.

0:01:470:01:51

Cambridge powered to victory in the men's race,

0:01:510:01:54

claiming their first win since 2012.

0:01:540:01:57

CHEERING

0:01:570:02:00

The decision to include comedian Seann Walsh

0:02:000:02:02

as part of the television line-up, though,

0:02:020:02:05

gave a lot of viewers a distinct sinking feeling.

0:02:050:02:09

What is your experience of the Boat Race so far?

0:02:090:02:11

So far... I know nothing about this.

0:02:110:02:13

I thought it was in Cambridge.

0:02:130:02:14

I have no idea. So I'm happy to be here.

0:02:140:02:17

I think there's been a booking error, basically.

0:02:170:02:19

I felt that it hit a new low, with the comedian Seann Walsh

0:02:190:02:23

making somewhat uninformed, mildly humorous comments

0:02:230:02:27

on a subject he admitted he knew nothing about.

0:02:270:02:30

The guy with the long hair, Seann Walsh,

0:02:300:02:32

ruined the coverage between the races

0:02:320:02:35

with his attempts at humour and with

0:02:350:02:38

his offensive and sexist comments.

0:02:380:02:40

I was surprised and disappointed to see the coverage

0:02:400:02:43

of the women's Boat Race debased by the antics of Seann Walsh,

0:02:430:02:47

whose so-called humour was intended to enhance the experience.

0:02:470:02:51

How anyone, even with the minimum of wit, can find this acceptable,

0:02:510:02:55

I fail to understand.

0:02:550:02:57

At times even the co-presenter Helen Skelton appeared to have had enough.

0:02:570:03:01

I've found an activity that means Seann is too exhausted to talk.

0:03:010:03:07

And it wasn't just Points Of View you complained to.

0:03:080:03:10

The BBC itself got more than 200 complaints about Seann's antics,

0:03:100:03:15

and they have offered us this statement in response.

0:03:150:03:18

Last Sunday night,

0:03:310:03:32

we saw the tense climax of the BBC's lavish adaptation of John Le Carre's

0:03:320:03:37

1993 novel The Night Manager.

0:03:370:03:39

Just under seven million of you tuned in

0:03:420:03:44

to see Hugh Laurie's character Richard Roper get his comeuppance,

0:03:440:03:47

and you were not disappointed.

0:03:470:03:49

No! No!

0:03:490:03:52

No! No!

0:03:520:03:53

No!

0:03:530:03:55

Hugh Laurie was superbly sinister and clearly a nasty piece of work.

0:03:550:04:00

Edge-of-the-seat tension was maintained throughout the series.

0:04:000:04:03

It was an excellent piece of television,

0:04:050:04:07

it was a well-developed plot and well-thought-through characters.

0:04:070:04:11

It was a thrilling finale to what has been a fantastic series

0:04:180:04:22

and it really didn't disappoint.

0:04:220:04:25

Though Le Carre didn't pen a sequel,

0:04:250:04:27

the BBC's controller of TV channels and iPlayer, Charlotte Moore,

0:04:270:04:30

has revealed the corporation is speaking to the author

0:04:300:04:34

about a possible follow-up.

0:04:340:04:36

So Jonathan Pine, Angela Burr and, who knows,

0:04:360:04:38

maybe even Richard Roper could be making a comeback.

0:04:380:04:42

Next, a show you're maybe not so keen to see return.

0:04:420:04:46

We are gearing up for the Easter Weekend with two women

0:04:460:04:49

who put the great in great outdoors.

0:04:490:04:51

That's Julia Bradbury and Gardener's World legend Carol Klein.

0:04:510:04:54

Oh, I'm feeling fresh as a daisy. Let's hop to it.

0:04:540:04:57

Drawing to a close on Friday was Too Much TV,

0:05:000:05:04

a tea-time show on BBC Two all about...well, you have a guess.

0:05:040:05:08

Just walk on casually, why not?

0:05:080:05:10

-Hello and welcome to the show.

-The aim, apparently,

0:05:100:05:13

was to highlight must-see programmes and let you catch

0:05:130:05:16

the water-cooler moments you might have missed.

0:05:160:05:19

The biggest decision of the day still remains...

0:05:190:05:21

ALL: What are we watching tonight?

0:05:210:05:23

If nothing else, it sounds like they got the title right.

0:05:230:05:26

You did not hold back.

0:05:260:05:28

The show is uninventive, soporific,

0:05:280:05:31

vomit-inducing

0:05:310:05:33

in its self-reverential, self-congratulatory,

0:05:330:05:38

uncritical oozings over D-list celebrity culture.

0:05:380:05:44

It's a real horror.

0:05:440:05:46

D-list celebs?

0:05:460:05:47

-Wait a minute,

-I

-was a guest on it, Tony!

0:05:470:05:50

This programme is not fit for BBC Two.

0:06:000:06:03

It is shallow and it is more suitable

0:06:030:06:05

for the lightweight channels.

0:06:050:06:07

I think the standards have certainly slipped.

0:06:070:06:09

No word yet if Too Much TV will be back.

0:06:090:06:12

Back in January,

0:06:150:06:16

BBC Three revealed a new logo, and we will have more

0:06:160:06:19

on that channel's move online later in the series.

0:06:190:06:22

But recently it was the turn of the BBC channel

0:06:220:06:25

for 6- to 12-year-olds, CBBC, to unveil their new look.

0:06:250:06:30

What was previously this now looks like this.

0:06:300:06:34

And you got in touch to say you are not impressed.

0:06:340:06:37

But what do CBBC's target audience think of their channel's new look?

0:06:460:06:50

Can they read it?

0:06:500:06:52

And could they, as some of you have suggested,

0:06:520:06:54

have come up with something better?

0:06:540:06:56

We headed to a school in Aberdeen to find out.

0:06:560:06:59

MUSIC: Bills by LunchMoney Lewis

0:06:590:07:01

It looks like a C...

0:07:100:07:12

BBC. Oh?

0:07:120:07:14

-No, I don't recognise it at all.

-BBC One.

0:07:140:07:17

-BBC Two.

-A "C".

0:07:170:07:20

I'm getting confused.

0:07:200:07:21

-CBBC.

-CBBC.

0:07:210:07:24

I think it's brilliant.

0:07:280:07:29

-I think it's really nice.

-I think it's really nice.

0:07:290:07:32

It looks like a flower.

0:07:320:07:34

It's very dark and it's not bold.

0:07:340:07:37

And it looks dumb.

0:07:370:07:38

It has lots of colours in it.

0:07:380:07:40

All the colours of the rainbow.

0:07:400:07:43

It's hard to read it anyway.

0:07:430:07:45

And it's got lots of bits.

0:07:450:07:48

The logo is amazing.

0:07:480:07:50

I think it will make loads of children want to watch it.

0:07:500:07:55

OK, boys and girls, we are going to design our own CBBC logos.

0:07:550:07:59

-Are we ready?

-ALL: Yeah!

0:07:590:08:02

This is my CBBC design.

0:08:060:08:09

I designed it like the Britain flag.

0:08:090:08:12

I've done my BBBC and I put flowers on it.

0:08:160:08:21

This is my CBBC sign.

0:08:230:08:25

And I made it cool because CBBC is cool.

0:08:250:08:30

And there we are.

0:08:320:08:33

There's my one. Not as good as the kids', though, is it?

0:08:330:08:37

The announcement way back in October last year that Antiques Roadshow had

0:08:370:08:41

found its highest-value item had you on tenterhooks,

0:08:410:08:44

waiting for the prize piece to be revealed.

0:08:440:08:47

Last Sunday,

0:08:470:08:49

the dramatic moment finally arrived, but the item turned out to be

0:08:490:08:53

not a priceless painting or a valuable vase...

0:08:530:08:56

With football's most prestigious cup competition in full swing

0:08:560:09:00

here on the BBC, we were offered a rare opportunity

0:09:000:09:03

to work with a very special piece of silver.

0:09:030:09:06

And that left some of you feeling, well, cheated.

0:09:060:09:09

Along comes Gabby Logan with one of the FA Cups.

0:09:090:09:12

How totally disappointing.

0:09:120:09:15

And how appalling of the BBC and of Antiques Roadshow for all the hype

0:09:150:09:19

and publicity surrounding this item.

0:09:190:09:22

To be fair, the BBC had described the item last October

0:09:340:09:38

as a world-famous piece owned by a sporting institution but, still,

0:09:380:09:42

many of you felt that the former FA Cup's inclusion

0:09:420:09:45

wasn't in keeping with the spirit of the show.

0:09:450:09:49

And we put your comments to the BBC.

0:09:490:09:51

This is their reply.

0:09:510:09:53

Next, plenty of you in touch to show your appreciation for BBC Two's

0:10:150:10:20

This Farming Life.

0:10:200:10:22

This one's mum didn't have enough milk.

0:10:220:10:24

This one is the same. As you can see, it's a lot smaller.

0:10:240:10:28

So I thought I would take it away and bottle-feed it.

0:10:280:10:31

So I'm basically giving myself more work.

0:10:310:10:34

The 12-part series, which finished its run this week,

0:10:340:10:37

followed five different farming families in Scotland

0:10:370:10:40

as they tried to turn a profit in tough economic times.

0:10:400:10:43

If you missed it, This Farming Life is available on the iPlayer.

0:11:090:11:12

Also concluding recently,

0:11:120:11:13

the historical drama that has left you desperate

0:11:130:11:17

to discover what happens next.

0:11:170:11:19

Set in Australia after World War II,

0:11:190:11:21

series three of A Place To Call Home finished on BBC Two last month,

0:11:210:11:26

and what an ending!

0:11:260:11:28

We saw Sarah's tonic being poisoned by George's jealous lover,

0:11:280:11:32

James learning the child he thought was his own, wasn't,

0:11:320:11:35

and Elizabeth and Douglas's romantic rendezvous

0:11:350:11:39

derailed by a heart attack.

0:11:390:11:41

You're hooked and you want more.

0:11:410:11:43

I will let Arianwen Parkes-Lockwood, who plays Olivia, answer that one.

0:11:590:12:04

We are, right now, as we speak, shooting season four

0:12:040:12:09

and, although I'm under very solemn oath not to tell you

0:12:090:12:12

what happens in it,

0:12:120:12:14

I CAN say that it's very exciting and it's very 1950s Australia,

0:12:140:12:20

and we are very, very thrilled to be making season four for you to see.

0:12:200:12:24

But will we be able to see it here in the UK?

0:12:240:12:28

Well, we can exclusively reveal that the BBC has snapped up the rights to

0:12:280:12:32

series four just this week.

0:12:320:12:33

So Arianwen and the rest of the cast

0:12:330:12:36

will be back on UK screens in early 2017.

0:12:360:12:39

Darling, what splendid news.

0:13:010:13:04

And finally, Britain lost a real comedy legend this week,

0:13:040:13:07

when Ronnie Corbett sadly passed away.

0:13:070:13:09

We will leave you with a clip.

0:13:090:13:11

We're back at the same time, 4pm, next Sunday.

0:13:110:13:13

Until then, it's goodnight from me.

0:13:130:13:16

This record is actually something rather special to me

0:13:160:13:19

because it contains all the funniest jokes that I've told

0:13:190:13:23

in 30 years of show business.

0:13:230:13:25

LAUGHTER

0:13:260:13:28

It's pathetic, isn't it?

0:13:310:13:33

I've heard of compact discs, but that's ridiculous.
