I'm Scott Mills. With Mr Vine away this week,

0:00:020:00:03

it's my pleasure to bring you the show that lets you

0:00:030:00:06

have your say on the BBC's television programmes.

0:00:060:00:08

This week, the explosive new Saturday night drama

0:00:080:00:10

that got you all fired up, and with just hours to go

0:00:100:00:13

until Blue Planet II lands on our screens,

0:00:130:00:15

we've been asking you

0:00:150:00:17

about your favourite wildlife moments from the BBC.

0:00:170:00:19

All that and more coming up - welcome to your Points Of View.

0:00:190:00:24

Yes, so Sunday afternoons,

0:00:340:00:35

I'm normally just on the sofa watching Strictly.

0:00:350:00:37

Scott, you're on.

0:00:370:00:39

Oh! Good afternoon.

0:00:390:00:41

Delighted to be back here looking after things while Jeremy's away.

0:00:410:00:44

First up this week, last Saturday night saw the touchpaper lit

0:00:440:00:47

on the BBC's latest historical drama.

0:00:470:00:50

Recounting the tale of the 1605 plot of the same name,

0:00:520:00:55

Gunpowder stars Kit Harrington as rebel Robert Catesby.

0:00:550:01:00

The series opened with King James I's men arriving

0:01:000:01:03

at the site of a covert Mass, on the hunt for hidden Jesuit priests.

0:01:030:01:07

Get up!

0:01:170:01:18

Put him to his knees.

0:01:180:01:20

Things really did not end well

0:01:220:01:24

for two of the participants in that scene.

0:01:240:01:26

Later, viewers saw the lady of the house get crushed to death

0:01:260:01:29

before a young priest was disembowelled.

0:01:290:01:31

I'll spare you clips of that.

0:01:310:01:32

Though the scenes came after the watershed

0:01:320:01:35

and a warning was given before the programme commenced,

0:01:350:01:37

you felt showing the grisly goings on was a step too far.

0:01:370:01:40

Well, there was last night's Strictly Halloween special,

0:02:070:02:10

but carry on, Chris.

0:02:100:02:11

After those scenes sparked a bit of an uproar,

0:02:260:02:28

the BBC issued this statement.

0:02:280:02:30

Not everyone found the drama's guts and gore to be a turn-off, though.

0:02:440:02:48

There's no need to wait, Jean. If you've got the stomach for it,

0:03:070:03:09

all three episodes of Gunpowder are available on the BBC iPlayer now.

0:03:090:03:13

Next, the quite interesting quiz show

0:03:130:03:15

making a recent return to BBC TWO.

0:03:150:03:18

With Sandi Toksvig back at the helm for a second series,

0:03:200:03:23

QI bounced back onto our screens the Friday before last

0:03:230:03:26

in a show that saw Sandi and Alan Davies

0:03:260:03:29

joined by Bill Bailey, Phill Jupitus and Claudia Winkleman.

0:03:290:03:33

-I like oology, whatever that is.

-Oology - what do we reckon?

0:03:330:03:36

That is the study of how much nans think you've grown.

0:03:360:03:41

That opening episode marked the start of series O of QI

0:03:430:03:46

and "O", how you loved it.

0:03:460:03:49

Hang on, is that the right e-mail?

0:03:520:03:54

Well, thank goodness you were able

0:04:220:04:24

to contain yourself, DalnacraigMusic!

0:04:240:04:26

Gaining an extra hour in bed this morning was a sure sign

0:04:260:04:29

autumn is well and truly upon us, as was the reappearance

0:04:290:04:32

of wildlife watching series Autumnwatch on BBC TWO this week.

0:04:320:04:36

Returning to the scene of this year's Springwatch,

0:04:380:04:41

the Sherborne Park Estate, Chris Packham, Michaela Strachan

0:04:410:04:44

and Martin Hughes-Games caught up with some of the characters

0:04:440:04:48

we'd met way back in June, including a family of barn owls.

0:04:480:04:52

There obviously was enough food during the later spring

0:04:520:04:55

and the summer after we left and all of them grew up

0:04:550:04:59

and shared that nest together

0:04:590:05:02

and I'm very pleased to tell you that all three fledged.

0:05:020:05:05

There was plenty of praise for the presenters, with Chris Packham,

0:05:050:05:09

star of the previous week's documentary about Asperger's,

0:05:090:05:12

singled out in particular.

0:05:120:05:13

But perhaps quite rightly, it was the animals

0:05:250:05:28

that really stole the show

0:05:280:05:29

with you quick to point out your natural favourite.

0:05:290:05:31

He pulls at that string, pulls it out. There it is. He's got it.

0:05:440:05:50

2017 is proving to be a big year for the part of the BBC

0:05:500:05:54

responsible for bringing Autumnwatch to our screens.

0:05:540:05:56

Not only does tonight see the launch of the Natural History Unit's

0:05:560:05:59

latest blockbuster series Blue Planet II,

0:05:590:06:02

but the department is also celebrating its 60th anniversary.

0:06:020:06:05

To mark that occasion,

0:06:050:06:07

we set off to track down some fans of the natural world

0:06:070:06:10

and hear about their most memorable moments

0:06:100:06:12

from the BBC's animal archive.

0:06:120:06:14

The natural world is full of extraordinary animals

0:06:180:06:22

with amazing life histories.

0:06:220:06:24

The animals I like watching on TV are turtles.

0:06:250:06:29

Big cats, because they run really fast.

0:06:290:06:32

Cats, dogs, possibly penguins.

0:06:320:06:36

Giraffes, because they have really long necks.

0:06:360:06:39

My favourite natural history moment is

0:06:410:06:44

when the two giraffes were fighting.

0:06:440:06:46

You could see, like, they were angry at each other

0:06:490:06:52

and it just made me, like, really laugh.

0:06:520:06:54

The bit that really stands out for me

0:06:540:06:56

with David Attenborough was in the forest with the mountain gorillas.

0:06:560:07:01

Sometimes they even allow others to join in.

0:07:010:07:05

Really touching moment. They were really engaging with him.

0:07:050:07:09

Our favourite natural history moment was

0:07:110:07:13

when the snake was chasing the iguana.

0:07:130:07:14

-I thought that was really, like, intense.

-Yeah.

-It was so good.

0:07:140:07:17

There were loads of snakes just chasing loads of little iguanas.

0:07:170:07:20

DRAMATIC MUSIC

0:07:200:07:24

I remember when the lizard was running on the water.

0:07:280:07:31

It was like lizard ballet. Very funny.

0:07:310:07:34

Favourite moment has to be the moment where there was

0:07:360:07:38

a colony of penguins and they were trying to get into family groups

0:07:380:07:42

by building their nests with rocks.

0:07:420:07:44

And there was this one particular penguin that would

0:07:440:07:47

go around alone, stealing the rocks from the other ones.

0:07:470:07:51

My favourite moment is when the mountain ibex were climbing

0:07:530:07:58

down the cliff.

0:07:580:08:00

I was really scared that they were going to fall down

0:08:020:08:05

but thankfully they didn't and they all made it across safely.

0:08:050:08:08

BLEATING

0:08:080:08:09

Hopefully those magical wildlife moments were enough to "tide"

0:08:090:08:13

you over until Blue Planet II tonight.

0:08:130:08:15

GROANING Tough crowd.

0:08:150:08:18

Moving on. Comedian Sue Perkins recently set sail on a new adventure

0:08:180:08:22

on BBC One.

0:08:220:08:24

I'm so sorry. So sorry.

0:08:240:08:27

After a previous excursion down the Mekong River,

0:08:290:08:32

this time, Sue's travelling the length of the Ganges.

0:08:320:08:35

In the three-part series' opening episode,

0:08:350:08:37

Sue met hermits and holy people at the river's source

0:08:370:08:41

before encountering a yogi with a keen interest in climate change.

0:08:410:08:45

How far do you think the glacier has retreated in the last 50 years?

0:08:450:08:48

You think it's retreated 3.5 km?

0:08:510:08:53

In 50 years?

0:08:530:08:55

This is like a sort of very, very beautifully told horror story.

0:08:570:09:01

This one definitely seemed to float your boat.

0:09:010:09:03

Yet Sue's sense of humour hasn't been everyone's cup of tea.

0:09:220:09:26

Sue's trip along the Ganges comes to an end this Thursday on BBC One.

0:09:430:09:48

Also dividing opinion this week was BBC Four's most recent foray

0:09:480:09:52

into the world of slow TV.

0:09:520:09:55

Monday night's A Year In An English Garden, Flicker + Pulse,

0:09:580:10:01

combined real-time and time-lapse footage to portray

0:10:010:10:04

the passing of time in a Sussex walled garden.

0:10:040:10:07

Autumn feels like an ending and a beginning.

0:10:150:10:18

Featuring ambient music and the occasional

0:10:180:10:20

musings of gardeners, the programme was a calming treat for some.

0:10:200:10:24

But the soundtrack that accompanied footage of plants flourishing

0:10:370:10:40

and fading wasn't music to everyone's ears.

0:10:400:10:43

From the seasonal serenity of a country garden to battling bots,

0:11:050:11:08

who says the BBC doesn't offer variety?

0:11:080:11:11

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:11:110:11:14

Returning last Sunday for a new series, Robot Wars sees

0:11:140:11:17

teams of amateur robot builders send their metal machines into combat.

0:11:170:11:22

This year the show sports a fresh format,

0:11:220:11:24

introducing new twists like a Fog of War hazard.

0:11:240:11:27

-COMMENTATOR:

-I've no idea what's going on!

0:11:270:11:29

Sabretooth there.

0:11:290:11:31

Trying to spin - oh, they couldn't see through the fog.

0:11:310:11:34

They couldn't see the floor flipper coming.

0:11:340:11:37

Tweaks to an existing format don't always go down well

0:11:370:11:39

but in this instance you felt the show was smashing it. Literally.

0:11:390:11:44

And finally this week, fans of the military drama The Last Post

0:12:010:12:05

have called a Scottish-themed slip-up to our "Attention!"

0:12:050:12:08

See if you can spot it in this freeze-frame from the credits.

0:12:080:12:11

Nope? Reveal all, Martin.

0:12:150:12:18

Quite right.

0:12:330:12:34

Presuming the actor involved wasn't playing a protective

0:12:340:12:37

spray for fabrics, that title should have read Royal Scots Guard.

0:12:370:12:41

The programme makers know the drill. They sent us this.

0:12:410:12:44

That's it for this week,

0:12:510:12:52

but whether you're bowled over by tonight's Blue Planet II

0:12:520:12:55

or left feeling let down after Inspector George Gently's

0:12:550:12:58

final outing tomorrow,

0:12:580:12:59

please do keep your points of view on the week's TV coming.

Jeremy is back in the hot seat next Sunday

0:13:210:13:23

here on BBC One at the much earlier time of 1:15.

0:13:230:13:26

That's due to football, apparently.

0:13:260:13:28

So set your generic hard disk recorders now.

0:13:280:13:31

Thanks very much for having me. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday.
