Well, today we are on the Welsh Borders

They are widely regarded as perhaps one of the best examples

of the English landscape garden, dating back to the 18th century.

They contain a fantastic mix of caves, cliffs, follies and woodland.

What sets this place apart is that it bucked the trend of the day

It was restored 20 years ago and now visitors revel in its surroundings.

But their rural dream isn't just a flight of fancy.

They're under no illusions that this is a big move,

and diseases going around at the moment, particularly affecting ash.

And also there's a fungus that's affecting larch trees.

So, a woodland that was purely larch or purely ash may be one to avoid.

The most traditional method of woodland management is

coppicing, the ancient practice of cutting a tree off at its stump

to encourage rapid re-growth of buds and shoots.

Opening up the tree canopy to let in light

also promotes greater biodiversity.

The extra light reaching the ground encourages wild flowers

and plants, attracting butterflies and other insects.

As well as benefitting the ecosystem,
