This song is called To Love Somebody,

we wrote it about March 1967,

and it was originally written for Otis Redding.

Otis Redding was the leading soul singer of that period

and our favourite vocalist at the time.

And I got to meet him in New York and he asked us to write a song for him,

and we conceived this particular song.

Unfortunately, Otis Redding died three months later

and never got to record the song so we recorded it ourselves.

Er, but as fate would have it, so did an awful lot of other people.

Yeah. Jimmy Somerville's done it, Janis Joplin.

-Michael Bolton was the last person.

So there's been at least 200 cover versions of this particular song.
