Daniel, we've known each other a long, long time -

really from the day that you used to come down

and visit your uncle who lived next door to us and pop in to see my mum.

And she really, really appreciated that.

I used to go along and watch you in concert

when you were a young man but my special memory, of course,

was when you popped in to see us in New York on that wonderful day

when we beat Italy in the Giants Stadium.

You were there to celebrate it with us.

I actually think that at this stage,

they should be erecting a statue of you,

really to celebrate not just your music

but the great, great work that you've done outside your music.
