Charlotte Church: Live in Cardiff

Hey, guys, we are here at Unit 31 in Splow, also known as Splott,

and I'm doing my Entanglement show here this evening.

It's a homecoming show, if you will. Obviously I'm a Cardiff girl.

I've lived in Cardiff all my life so it means the world to me

to come here and do this particular show

and I hope that you guys at home enjoy it as well.

Within the Entanglement concert, there are two halves -

the first half and the second half. Aptly named, I thought.

The first half hopefully will feel like a big party.

Big, crazy, space-physics, entanglement-connected, crazy party.

So, hi. Thanks for coming to our neonic show.

We've got all of this crazy neon paint -

really intricate shapes and it's sort of about connection

and geometry and sciences, physics and biology.

I liked the idea of just creating a fantasy idea of a music virus

so the actual DNA of the virus is

the first part of Entanglement,

the song, and what's happening is that he's

kind of spinning out his ideas into the world.

For my make-up, I sort of had this jellyfish thing.

Yeah, there's something fundamentally

sciency about it, I thought, at least anyway.

'We're trying to find out as much as we can about the world

'and if it turns out there is a simple ultimate law that

'explains everything, so be it. That would be very nice to discover.

'If it turns out it's an onion with millions of layers and we're

'just sick and tired of looking at the layers then that's the way it is.

'But whatever way it comes out, its nature is there

'and she is going to come out the way she is and therefore

'when we go to investigate it, we shouldn't pre-decide

'what it is we're trying to do except find out more about it.'

It's been a real labour of love for everybody involved

and, you know, we've given everything to it.

The whole way across, we've been putting loads of love

and energy and all of our passion into this one project.

I hope that it moves people,

like I hope the people understand how much emotion is

poured into these songs and the writing and you know, the whole

construction of this music and this show is just a whole tonne of emotion.

This is the last song of this set so this is Glitterbombed.

Glitterbombed is what it's like when somebody rubs off on you.

So if you really like somebody,

you tend to mirror a lot of their behaviours etc.

It's just a natural thing that happens in the brain.

But, yeah, so it's Glitterbombed because...when...with glitter,

you can't get glitter off you.

It just hangs around for ages.

The second half has a different feel

so the second half should feel a bit more calm, a bit more serene.

A bit moodier, a bit darker.

And then there's a choir in the second half.

A 14-piece choir and they're lending contemporary voices.

They're totally awesome.

And then also, tentacles come out of this skirt, orchids,

flower light-up thing.

In theory, everybody will be attached or will attach

themselves somehow to these tentacle light things

and hopefully everybody will be full of love and connectivity.

Nerve is basically the time just after you've had a huge argument

when you start to really think about what's going to happen

with the future with that person or whatever.

It's those feelings just after so a lot of it is quite calm

and reflective and then it sort of blows up into this really,

really quite angry,

volatile chorus but which comes back down to, "I'm confused and I love you."

I just can't believe it's all worked.

All of these abstract ideas that started off like,

"Mmm! I wonder if I could have a light-up squid that looked like a

"jellyfish that grew tentacles for this particular song and it would

"just be really sort of...lots of connectivity about it?"

Well, A - we managed to make all of that stuff

and make it look really beautiful and B - that people get it

and it evokes the feelings that I thought it might, you know?

With a lot of these things, you just don't know how on earth it's going to work.

but in terms of the love that you have for them,

it's completely uncomplicated and really pure and a beautiful thing.
