handsome for oneself. You're very kind. Thanks for joining me.And oh

0:05:280:05:31

you had fun because eyesight. From your point of view, a good days

0:05:310:05:37

work? People say, you would like you are enjoying yourself but we're just

0:05:370:05:42

happy to be employed. It is rare we get to come through here, even

0:05:420:05:46

playing gigs, but now that we see the vibe, we know we have to make

0:05:460:05:54

this into a good show. But look at the rest of the bill, these are the

0:05:540:05:58

established old guard at this point. An extra responsibility to deliver.

0:05:580:06:04

Everyone expects it. We always put the pressure on ourselves. For our

0:06:040:06:08

first year, we carried sticks around with ourselves, to beat ourselves up

0:06:080:06:13

every so often. We're not good enough! I think now we are having

0:06:130:06:17

more fun, we are moral laxity. The hard work has paid off. We just

0:06:170:06:24

don't care! I'm going to let you go because you have been fantastic, but

0:06:240:06:27

you you have been seeing other bands. Enjoy the weekend and we will

0:06:270:06:34

see some live music from Dizzee Rascal. With a very special guest.

0:06:340:06:42

I've brought along a friend of mine. He goes by the name of Robbie

0:06:420:06:52
0:06:520:07:04

Williams. Come on, let's do this. OK. This song is called Goin' Crazy.

0:07:040:07:14
0:07:140:07:24

What's going on on the side? # Wake up in the afternoon... # What's

0:07:240:07:27

going on over this side? # Cover up the mirror just to get a better

0:07:270:07:33

view... # I'm coming down! # Been around the world and never even left

0:07:330:07:37

the room... # How are you feeling? # And I, I can't figure out... # Come

0:07:370:07:41

on, let's have it! # Why so I just scream and shout # I believe, I

0:07:410:07:44

believe, I believe I believe I'm going crazy # Going crazy, going

0:07:440:07:54
0:07:540:08:27

crazy # I believe I'm losing my # I believe, I believe, I believe I

0:08:270:08:37
0:08:370:08:44

# Goin crazy, goin' crazy, goin' Living in a bubble, my life is a

0:08:440:08:48

Now pass me a shot, and make it a double

0:08:480:08:50

I'm a whole lot of trouble and I don't do subtle

0:08:500:08:52

It's all or nothing, I don't wanna juggle

0:08:520:08:54

No crabs in a bucket, I don't wanna huddle

0:08:540:08:56

I've got my own name, tryn'a figure out the whole game

0:08:560:08:58

Going insane, 150 in the slow lane

0:08:580:09:00

Getting ahead of myself

0:09:000:09:02

My God, already thinking how can I better myself

0:09:020:09:03

Should I be somebody else? Should I be pacing myself?

0:09:030:09:05

My car's a rocket, and if I get too carried away

0:09:050:09:07

I wouldn't know when to stop it.

0:09:070:09:09

# I, I can't figure out

0:09:090:09:14

# Why, so I just scream and shout

0:09:140:09:22

Yeah, yeah

0:09:220:09:25

# I believe, I believe, I believe I believe I'm going crazy

0:09:250:09:29

# Goin' crazy, goin' crazy, goin' crazy

0:09:300:09:32

# I believe I'm losing my mind... #

0:09:320:09:38

Come on, come on!

0:09:390:09:41

# Tryin'a get a hold of you

0:09:410:09:43

# Tryin'a get control of

0:09:430:09:50

# Tryin'a get control of me. #

0:09:500:09:54

Make some noise!

0:09:550:09:57

# I believe, I believe, I believe I believe I'm going crazy

0:09:570:10:02

# Goin' crazy, goin' crazy, goin' crazy

0:10:020:10:05

# I believe I'm losing my mind... #

0:10:050:10:12

What's happening? Lovely, lovely.

0:10:120:10:15

Yes, boss. Thank you, brother. Dizzee Rascal. Robbie Williams.

0:10:150:10:21

Love, love, love. Loads of love, folk.

0:10:210:10:24

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:10:240:10:34
0:10:340:10:35

0:10:350:10:35

scenes. Everyone

0:10:360:10:36

scenes. Everyone is

0:10:360:10:36

scenes. Everyone is doing

0:10:360:10:41

scenes. Everyone is doing their bit. I selling T-shirts. Rigsy is

0:10:410:10:46

backstage and he will tell you what else is going on. It is the day

0:10:460:10:53

before the shows open to the public, and we're going to give you up to.

0:10:530:11:00

High visibility jacket and glasses, let's go backstage. As soon as I'd

0:11:000:11:03

arrived, had to visit these important Portakabins. Whether you

0:11:030:11:10

are performing or try to make a TV programme, you need one of these.

0:11:100:11:19

And just up the hill, we have the broadcast HQ. This is online, BBC

0:11:190:11:23

Northern Ireland, BBC Three and around here, Radio 1. So we will

0:11:240:11:33

have same low and us, Albright broadcasting from inside here. --

0:11:330:11:43
0:11:430:11:45

Zane Lowe. The onstage action is controlled from a near. -- in here.

0:11:450:11:49

As you can tell, the event has not started because I am able to walk

0:11:490:11:59
0:11:590:12:02

onto the second stage. Hi, Derry! The 1p Ken -- the Big Weekend

0:12:020:12:05

requires an army working hard in the army marches on its stomach. And

0:12:050:12:12

this is where those stomachs get filled. This is what the main stage

0:12:120:12:22
0:12:220:12:26

looks like 24 hours before kick-off. In this comedy of yours, is the

0:12:260:12:31

dressing room, where Calvin, Dizzee Rascal and the lads will be hanging

0:12:310:12:41
0:12:410:12:47

out before and after the Thank you for asking me to be on

0:12:470:12:51

# Got your hands up cos you think you've got it

0:12:510:12:52

0:12:520:12:53

# Eh-oh, eh-oh, eh-eh

0:12:530:12:55

# Eh-oh, eh-oh Ooh-ooh-ooh!

0:12:550:12:56

# It's so funny that you think you're winning

0:12:560:12:59

# Cos somebody told you who was spinning

0:12:590:13:02

# Eh-oh, eh-oh, eh-eh

0:13:020:13:03

# Eh-oh, eh-oh

0:13:030:13:05

# Oh, yeah!

0:13:050:13:07

# You know you're only in it

0:13:070:13:08

# Cos it's hot right now

0:13:080:13:09

# Hot right now

0:13:090:13:11

# Turn it up right now

0:13:110:13:12

0:13:250:13:30

# Throw your hands up

0:13:300:13:31

# Throw your hands up

0:13:310:13:36

# You got the latest place

0:13:360:13:36

# It's on your radar

0:13:370:13:38

# But by the time you show your face it's over

0:13:380:13:40

# Eh-oh, eh-oh, eh-eh

0:13:400:13:42

# Eh-oh, eh-oh, ooh-ooh-ooh

0:13:420:13:45

# You got the magic numbers on your speed dial

0:13:450:13:48

# And you're too busy dropping names

0:13:480:13:53

# But me won

0:13:530:13:54

# Eh-oh, eh-oh

0:13:540:13:54

# Me won

0:13:550:13:55

# Eh-oh, eh-oh

0:13:550:13:56

# Oh, yeah!

# Cos it's hot right now

0:14:080:14:10

# Hot right now

0:14:100:14:11

# Turn it up right now

0:14:110:14:13

# Put your hands in the air if you want it right now

0:14:130:14:15

# Eh-oh, eh-oh, hot right now

0:14:150:14:24

# Let me see the club get hotter, hotter

0:14:240:14:26

# I wanna see your hands up higher, higher

0:14:260:14:29

# I don't need close shouts Oh-oh-oh-oh!

0:14:290:14:31

# Can I get a "Wo-o-o-oah"?

0:14:310:14:34

# Let me see the club get hotter, hotter

0:14:350:14:37

# I wanna see your hands up higher, higher

0:14:370:14:40

# I don't need close shouts Oh-oh-oh-oh!

0:14:400:14:46

# Can I get a "Wo-o-o-oah"? #

0:14:460:14:56

doing this interview because it is so

0:14:560:14:56

so loud.

0:14:560:14:57

so loud. Can

0:14:570:14:57

so loud. Can you

0:14:570:15:01

so loud. Can you keep it down, we're having an interview! I get the

0:15:010:15:04

impression you are the kind of person that will take this in and go

0:15:040:15:12

and see these bands. You have worked with half of the bill, DJ fresh, do

0:15:120:15:17

you walk around and think you have to go and see these guys? I am a fan

0:15:170:15:21

before anything. I was a fan before I was lucky enough to work with them

0:15:210:15:30

so why stop now? I am a fan, so I love watching people perform.

0:15:300:15:35

run-up to one big we turned, -- one Big Weekend, there was a series of

0:15:350:15:45
0:15:450:15:49

workshops for young eagle in the Radio 1 team brought some serious

0:15:490:15:53

knowledge to the nerve centre in Derry on setting up the Radio 1

0:15:530:15:56

Academy. Over the week, young people got free training in music, media

0:15:560:16:01

and fashion from experts in each field. I've got a tour from the lady

0:16:010:16:07

in charge. So these guys were involved with one of the workshops

0:16:070:16:13

earlier on. It was a script writing workshop. The guys turn up in their

0:16:130:16:17

own scripts. They did not know anybody who was going to be there.

0:16:170:16:23

So the cast of East Enders came out by surprise to perform the scripts.

0:16:230:16:28

Wow. Every workshop has something a bit different about it. There have

0:16:280:16:34

been some stars, the cast of East Enders, The Script have performed on

0:16:340:16:37

that stage in the Radio 1 DJs, but of course it is all about the young

0:16:370:16:43

locals. Absolutely. The academy would not be the academy without

0:16:430:16:46

young people coming through the door, and also the partnerships we

0:16:460:16:52

are making with local organisations. When we go at the end of the week,

0:16:520:16:55

they will be able to carry on their journey with local partners, like

0:16:550:17:05
0:17:050:17:13

T-shirt designs. One of these T-shirts will be chosen and will be

0:17:130:17:21

made and sold. Wow. Some great opportunities. So there is a major

0:17:210:17:28

future fashion designer somewhere in this room? I think so.You will be

0:17:280:17:32

more familiar with this place. good old-fashioned radio studio. Who

0:17:320:17:39

has been broadcasting through here? We have had you Stevens, Alice

0:17:390:17:45

Levine, and the breakfast show. It is a good place to end, because it

0:17:450:17:50

is the Radio 1 Academy, and Radio 1 have made this all happen. They

0:17:500:17:53

bring brand value and a young audience, and we bring the learning

0:17:530:17:57

side of it. It is just mixing those things together, learning and Radio

0:17:570:18:06

1. That is what makes the Academy really great. I'm about to go over

0:18:060:18:09

to the main stage to do one of the most important interviews of the

0:18:090:18:13

entire weekend, but look at this, the T-shirt is on sale! How cool is

0:18:130:18:21

that? One thing is sure, the taxi

0:18:210:18:24

drivers, hotel owners and the rest are not talking about Bruno Mars or

0:18:250:18:29

Biffy Clyro, they are talking about this young lady who won tickets and

0:18:290:18:32

the opportunity to introduce Olly Murs on the main stage. That is

0:18:320:18:37

going to happen in a few moments, how are you feeling? I cannot wait,

0:18:370:18:40

it is the opportunity of a lifetime. I hope everyone will be talking

0:18:400:18:46

about it for weeks to come. Are you nervous? I am, but I will just go

0:18:460:18:51

out and enjoy it. Everyone is on your side. You are a local girl? Ten

0:18:510:18:56

minutes away. Hopefully everyone will enjoy it. I think there are

0:18:560:19:00

about 15,000 people on your side. From everybody here, good luck.

0:19:000:19:04

We're going to see how she got on and then a little bit of the man

0:19:040:19:14
0:19:140:19:36

comeback spend a couple of with my folks,

0:33:310:33:31

folks, and

0:33:310:33:31

folks, and I've

0:33:310:33:31

folks, and I've become

0:33:310:33:36

folks, and I've become really lazy. I'd just a guy want to stay in bed

0:33:360:33:40

and lounge around the house. This time it has been really nice, I have

0:33:400:33:45

come back and I have been up in Belfast, seeing the people want to

0:33:450:33:50

see. It has been so nice to be back and reconnecting. Connecting with

0:33:500:33:57

people I do not normally get to. I've got home to my mums house, and

0:33:570:34:01

she had made me a lasagne. It is my favourite. Was it better than my

0:34:020:34:06

lasagne? It reminds me of home more than your lasagne. That is a good

0:34:060:34:14

answer. What are your bedrooms like? Not in a creepy way, but are

0:34:140:34:20

they untouched since it you were 16? Mine is a sofa bed in a white room.

0:34:200:34:24

Mine became a gym as soon as I'm at the door. I have a younger brother

0:34:240:34:27

and I have the bigger bedroom when was growing up so as I am, he took

0:34:270:34:37
0:34:370:34:38

over the bedroom. So now I've get the small spare room. Of course no

0:34:380:34:43

festival would be complete without a light show and our team has worked

0:34:430:34:53
0:34:530:34:59

around the clock to put on something mapping, so this is the most

0:34:590:35:06

creative project we have ever taken off. -- ever taken on. Our

0:35:060:35:09

presenters are the four elements that make the Big Weekend, the

0:35:090:35:15

location, the artists, the presenters and the music. We have

0:35:150:35:20

also done a collaboration with Calvin Harris, so he has provided

0:35:200:35:27

the soundtrack and we have designed the animation around it. You can see

0:35:270:35:30

the wonder as I look at this tiny little version, so let's see what it

playing 200 capacity venues. It must be amazing to be playing here in

0:42:480:42:54

Derry, headlining one Big Weekend. It is fantastic. We have had great

0:42:540:42:59

support over the years and it feels like a chance for us and those

0:42:590:43:03

people to have a bit of a celebration in a way. Like Simon

just some pop stars crooning in a field. At all, Derry is vibrant and

0:47:450:47:49

brilliant Tom of the city of culture 2013. Rigsy finds out what it means

0:47:490:47:55

to the young people of Derry. The Big Weekend is not just about

0:47:550:47:59

bringing famous names or novel events to Derry in 2013.

0:47:590:48:03

It is also about looking past this year, towards a colourful and

0:48:030:48:09

adventurous future for the city. You are hoping to inspire the next

0:48:090:48:15

generation. Kids are getting exposed to music, traditions, opportunities

0:48:150:48:21

to learn that we never had. It is only positive. People come here and

0:48:210:48:28

they think it is amazing. We have the best music and dance scene, the

0:48:280:48:35

best theatre scene. It is about building confidence. The music

0:48:350:48:38

promise is a project designed to inspire the young people of Derry

0:48:380:48:42

using music. I asked one of the directors of the initiative about

0:48:420:48:48

their ambitions. This year, we will have approximately 1000 young

0:48:480:48:55

people. We have set up hubs in four or five different places in the

0:48:550:49:04

various partnership renewal areas. We are everywhere within the city.

0:49:040:49:08

Even in the first eight weeks, we have seen so much develop and in the

0:49:080:49:12

young people. Outside of the programme, they have even more

0:49:120:49:16

opportunities because it is the city of culture. We had a culture jam

0:49:160:49:20

weekend and one of our kids got up playing drums in front of 200

0:49:200:49:24

people, after five weeks with us, having never played on stage in her

0:49:240:49:31

life. Obviously, with this sort of resource, and this equipment is

0:49:310:49:34

being left after the city of culture finishes, we are still in a position

0:49:340:49:39

to cater and develop a music community resource that has never

0:49:390:49:44

been done anywhere else in the world. But many in the city have

0:49:440:49:48
